If you confiscate stealthily, via inflation and hidden taxes lots of wealth from the population and give it all to banksters, this is what you get. The rioters maybe even do not know why they are rioting. But this is why.

This all is none of my business, but I do not like when all this religious crap is being pushed into my face and luke-jr's consistent arrogance and complete disregard to anyone but himself does not inspire any sympathy.

Friendly challenge to BitcoinForum.net ! Our promotion is an order of magnitude bigger than yours!  Grin

1471  Other / Beginners & Help / new promotion at bitcoin.org.uk, almost as good as Bitcoin Faucet on: August 18, 2011, 08:11:55 PM
We've had soft launch on 15th of August. I consider it mildly successful.

The real launch is scheduled for 22nd of August. It is not going to be anything significant. Just a few announcements, new promotion, maybe a "press release".

Some new functionality is expected to be rolled out by the end of this week, particularly I have hopes on finishing testing "real, industrial strength search" and theme selection (white'ish label) for participants of "Project Support Centre".

At bitcoin.org.uk "The Novice" policy is slightly different from this forum. We are all "Novices" there. And all members are allowed to post in most sections of the forum. Keep it civil though, it is all moderated.

There are restricted sections on the forum where only software developers, pool operators and other "Pro Members" are allowed to post, and "general public" have read-only access only. In any case those sections are not being used much at the moment.

Details of post launch promotion are being finalized. This is how it is expected to work (subject to change):

Quote

  • Every day starting 22nd of August 2011 and until 28th of August 2011 I will count number of new "real" users signed up this day
  • I will multiply this number by 0.1 BTC, the result will be the prise fund for that day. (i.e. 1 BTC per 10 new users)
  • This prise will be awarded to a random "real" member.

"Small" print:

  • I reserve the right to not count some new members as "real" if they look "spammy" i.e. just a signup and no posts with some content. Exact criteria are not disclosed, but you get the idea.
  • I reserve the right to reroll if the winning random member turns out to be someone who has not contributed to the forum i.e. appears to be "spammy". As above I do not disclose exact criteria, but to give you an idea it is unlikely that inactive members will win.
  • This is done at my sole discretion
  • The rules can be changed at any time, and promotion can be discontinued at any time.
  • Moderators are eligbile to win in this promotion, administrators are not.
  • There are tentative plans to continue this promotion indefinitely starting 1st of September, but possibly with some modifications, like on weekly basis instead of daily.

The idea of this promotion is to ensure that "dead souls" do not dilute chances of active members to win the raffle.

There is no need to wait until 22nd, though, another great promotion in force right now. Sign up, post something interesting and you have a decent chance to win 1 or even 2 BTC everyday.

Suggestions on what else can be done for the launch are welcome.

1474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interesting Statistic: $79,200 of new money going into bitcoin every day - more on: August 18, 2011, 07:53:02 AM
Ahh... I didn't realize you were speaking in terms of annual % growth.  I thought you meant that an 80K single investment would raise the market cap by 35%, which is not correct.  Speaking annually makes much more sense, but I'm too lazy to actually crunch the numbers, that's my day job (Accountant/Financial Analyst).

I am not an accountant but premise of 80k being 35% of 80 millions somehow seems wrong. I guess this is the end of the argument that.
1475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interesting Statistic: $79,200 of new money going into bitcoin every day - more on: August 17, 2011, 04:24:12 PM
Here's just a fun, back-of-the-envelope, statistic:

50 new bitcoins enter the total supply every ten minutes. This is 300 per hour or 7,200 per day. The current USD price of bitcoin is around $11. That's $79,200 of new supply that is created and absorbed every day. This means that when the price of bitcion is above $11 then more than $79,200 of new money is flowing into bitcoin. When the price drops less than $11 then the amount of new money entering bitcoin is less than $79,200 per day.

Pretty impressive. Bitcoin is gaining fans at the rate of $79,200 per day or $2,376,000 per month at the current rate. So don't despair when you see the price stay flat for an extended period of time.  Smiley

Whatever naysayers say in this thread I agree with Trade Steve's premise. Yes, 7,200 coins per day are coming to the market i.e. we are in inflation stage. Nevertheless the market thinks that current price of one BTC is 11$ (or whatever). Amount of coins has increased, while price is the same, therefore Bitcoin market cap has increased by 7200x11$.

Simple really.

It is basically the same as stock market and a company issuing new shares. Treat bitcoins not as currency but as shares in decentralized company called Bitcoin. It makes things much simpler than all those rave about inflation/deflation/economy/autrians/keyseanists/etc...

This is basically what MAFIAA and Ko pulled of with all those CD/DVD blanks levy in countries like Canada. Nice gig if you can get it.

5.Must be open to giving me much more power if I need it (e.g like up from 8GH/s to 100GH/s for 1 day)

This, while possible in principle and I have the capacity, is highly unusual for such kind of contracts. I could discuss this in private. PM me on https://bitcoin.org.uk if interested.

Kind Regards,
Vladimir.
