1501  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My Name is... on: August 29, 2013, 08:49:57 AM
You're not poor for shit...you should change your signature and mine more alt...and you should cancel up a few of your orders with BFL and move that equivalent money into the exchange...Hold ltc and wait for it to hit .2 btc - you will definitely win for sure.  Right now you're pissing away money for the illlusion of ROI with a so-called high hashrate.  I could be just spreading FUD for some people...but I believe that I am correct on this one with your circumstances.
1502  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Do we want to continue to allow varrious vendor hate in here? on: August 28, 2013, 09:20:33 PM
The forum is overrun with the hate of the day with various "hardware"(/vaporware) vendors, it has become hard to discuss anything else. Many of the participants are behaving like animals.

I'm sensitive to the risk of suppressing complaints. There have been many scam hardware "vendors" of various degrees. People should be able to communicate about the risks, seek recourse, etc.   At the same time, these complaints have reached an intensity where they are self defeating.  If you tell me vendor X is a scam I don't know if its because they are or because you're crazy, because you're a shill for another vendor, because you're a shill for them trying to make the complainers look crazy, if you're a miner trying to scare people out of mining, etc.  As a warning this information is no longer very helpful.

I have multiple people I know (and have met in person and know not to be socks) begging me to do something about the sad state of this subforum.  But I'm at a loss... how do we defeat troll culture when it's taking the form of "concern troll" about concerns we should be careful to preserve? And how can we do it without making me and miningbuddy censors who have to vet every single post?

Does anyone have any great ideas?

You know I've got a big fat FUCK YOU to gmaxwell for still accepting bfl ad money Sir.
1503  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 28, 2013, 09:16:52 PM

It is not even a prototype correct? No gerbers? No BOM even? Just a drawing... what more can you say about it? Other than taking specifications they claim it will have and doing an analysis and then determining whether or not it is a good buy correct?

There's a lot to consider.  Pre-orders are open now (Yes, I know BFL's history, no need to discuss further) and early adopters of new ASIC technology have often been greatly rewarded for taking some extra risk.  I'm taking that little extra risk and have converted an April pre-order for a Monarch.  And now I want to read what other people think, specifically about the Monarch and not about BFL's well-documented history.

And since when do we wait to talk about a future ASIC product?  It's pretty obvious to me that any new ASIC announcement generates lots of interest and is immediately a hot topic.

Given what Death is saying in a comparison of the Asicminer Blades vs. 2012 BFL Products that have yet to ship... you might want to really rethink whether or not the Monarch has any value other than a thought experiment into a PCIe miner, seems to be hard to say anymore than that right? Forgive me but doesn't BFL have a forum for all this information. Why would anyone come here to get updated info on this product should you not go to the source?

BitcoinTalk has a larger audience.  But I do read and post in BFL's forum too.  I like to get as much information as possible.

Yes larger and why we need to make sure that everyone is properly informed almost page per page on each thread in case they are new and miss the important tidbits that you might know but they may not. It be different say that a company was transparent and truthful in every post but obviously given what has happened in the past there are plenty of people looking out for the interests of the larger audience. Again if we had a subforum where information and the tone was PROFESSIONALLY kept then there would be no need to continually pop into a thread and set the record straight or inform people of the dangers.

You must recognize that and given there is NO INFO about this unit and that it is just claims and speculation at this post probably should be filed in a section that is not custom hardware but something that will be coming to market and warning labels BOLDLY affixed to it to protect people from the potential damages it may cause to the bitcoin economy because of past performance. We need a better system than we have currently for these sorts of posts from these types of companies but until that happens I guess we all have to deal with the discord it causes. If one is going to post vapourware... then you should be allowed to be highly skeptical on pretty much every page of the thread. Sorry it is only fair given the poor record for delivery.

how many times has a knc rep come around to cuss you out? (bitcoinorama doesnt count Grin )  none
how many times does Friedcat come around to cuss you out?  none
how many times does hashfast come around to cuss you out?  none
how many times does Terrahash come around to cuss you out? none
how many times does Yifu come around to cuss you out?   NONE

Therefore, it begs the question, What were you thinking or total lack thereof?  If you put like that same 110% "i dont give a fuck about you or your problems" into better excuses for failure of delivery, I'd be willing to wager that you wouldn't get the level of opposition that you do.

1505  Economy / Speculation / Re: Milestones on: August 28, 2013, 09:56:50 AM
hardcore wishful thinking not possible -  isnt the largest stock berkshire hathway A stock at 167,000 a share?  If btc reaches that price there would be a massive sell flood that would crash the price back down to double digits or possibly low triple digits like it is now.  I think that we have a good shot of the price ceiling being between 200-2500 dollars at most, but if it were to still rise past that price then many many many more people would flood it to mine or mine alts to exchange for btc for fiat - that cycle will correct the price bubble.

I don't mean to be the killjoy on this thread...I want it just as bad as you to hit a million dollars easily.  Thats like 10k per bitcent!  We would definitly be singing a different tune about all those fools (now geniuses) for buing up block eruptors to mine at 2btc a piece.

1509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: August 28, 2013, 09:03:14 AM
All,

Thanks for all of the entries. We have to agree we should have been more specific, and maybe slogan was the wrong choice of word. The phrase will be on the controller board on each device. It is not a slogan for the company but our current product range.  We would like the phrase to remain Bitcoin related, as Mars' 'Bitcoin makes the world go around' was a tribute to the song 'Money makes the world to round' by Liza Minneli' . Obviously with our chosen device names the space themes are equally suitable. Anything combining the two will also be considered but don't let that limit your imagination. Phrases that stand out as creative and make us smile will be considered. We would like to make the 'coining' of a phrase by our customers a theme amongst all our future products. Bad pun, we know, could not resist. Wink

Please note, we are honestly not at all interested in belittling our competitors with phrases on our boards, our engineering will speak for itself.

We always aim to under-promise and over deliver. This is and always will be a reoccurring theme as well, and agreed as a company slogan that sits well with us.

Competition ends in at 5.30pm local time (CET) tomorrow. We are aware of the other thread and will consider entries from both.  Good luck everyone, 'stellar' efforts so far.

Thanks,

KnCMiner Team.

I think you guys had the right phrase all along - under promise / over deliver
1510  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Do any of these ASIC's actually make a ROI? on: August 28, 2013, 07:26:47 AM
After finding this nifty site: http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/  and checking out lots of ASICS, it looks if you buy now, wait for delivery, nothing will make it's ROI.

Of course I subscribe to the idea that you are better off just buying the Bitcoins now versus investing into an ASIC. However, I already have Bitcoins (bought long, long, long ago) and I'm relatively Fiat Broke, so if I were to go an ASIC route, I would be spending Bitcoins anyway. I have held off till now because it seems like it's a smarter idea to wait for when ASICS can be purchased and delivered via 2 day shipping. Meaning, I can pretty much know what the difficulty will be when I receive my machine. At this point, even the conservative estimates make it look like top of the line miners won't arrive in time to pay for themselves.

What are others thinking?

when i started to use that calculator it was giving me positive ROI figures scoped out from october onward, now its been adjusted...as more entrants are expected to enter into the bitcoin arena and offer hashing....difficulty will continue to rise against the fixed bitcoin 'pie' Like the guy above said - mine with it until april 2014 then switchover to alt-coins or if btc jumps up a lot in price like over 500 bucks then continue to mine btc for a few more months.  If others also follow and decide to switch over to alts, that will stabilize difficulty I believe.
1511  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Codinginmysleep= BFL SHILL 2 the MAX - on: August 28, 2013, 07:14:49 AM
Although he may be a shill, that guy is actually really nice. I met him at the Bitcoin Conference.

Don't persecute him too badly.  Cheesy

It's easy to be overly critical when you're a troll hiding on the forum. What none of them will admit is that they'd do the exact same thing if they were in his advantageous position.

Actually not really. It is called having integrity some of us have it, and some let it go with their soul. As being a person that has been approached from people saying "we will give you this for free, but tell the community it is your favorite" or my favorite "we saw how you want one of X, we can send you one, but can you send us a video of you endorsing it" LMAO

Some people don't have the integrity and that is just plain sad. I actually used to read his blog but then stopped after a couple of post, I just saw it going downhill.

I did just give it a little time just now...that cassius coin defcon post was cool and so was his post on stealing bitcoin through using random address generation...needs more stuff like that...

Sure - I can understand that.  But my point was that he is NOW promoting the Monarch.  I could give two shits less about the Jalapeno - we all thought that maybe BFL would indeed get things rolling in full swing.  They havent even gotten to 2013 orders FFS!  I only put this out there after I saw he was still promoting them.   Like how come he isn't talking about other vendors on the horizon - cause he got a jalapeno he now is forced to 'do their advertising too?!'  I'll bet he did this to be promised another 'unboxing' opportunity where he gets to keep the miner after showcasing it off for the world to see yet having no means to acquire one like the rest of us hard working commonfolk.  If you go to his homepage he's showcasing the shiny monarch right now.  I'd be willing to give him redemption if he were willing to drop that post altogether or at least start to cover other hardware more.

Should I be more vocal and direct with him (direct comment on his monarch post) about how I think he is a shill and should take that down as they are acting really shady shifty right now?

1514  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Do we want to continue to allow varrious vendor hate in here? on: August 27, 2013, 12:11:27 PM
Actually the real problem is that people turn many threads into a pointless wastes of time ... and then keep posting the same thing over and over for months ... like some mind numbingly stupid belief that no one knows or understands that a certain company is completely unable to deliver hardware on time Tongue Only they can see this and thus they must post this same information a hundred times in each thread ... and make themselves look like some sort of psychotic stalker ... and then start posting falsehoods since they themselves have realised there's no point posting the same thing over and over again ... so why not make something up ...

Bottom line, I see no real problem with posting negative stuff about companies, however, there are a small number of accounts on bitcointalk that if they were deleted, that would get rid of most of the "OMG I gotta post it again today coz no body knows what I know and I must educate all these fools who read this forum ... who didn't read it yesterday" crap these threads are full of.

wow I couldn't agree more with this one

No offense BAN PEOPLE- Inaba is hella toxic.  I think any/all vendor related contacts should be banned...they have email addresses and vendor ecommerce sites - takes your fussing and questions to them there...not here.

bitsyncom - GET OUT.

You should maybe clone the trust system to add a reputation meter in too. Make it such that only moderators could actually ban people who suddenly get a negative 10 rating.  maybe if someone suddenly gets a negative rating they have their posts removed and banned...i know you talk about not wanting to take away freedom to compalin and feel how one chooses - but there sure is a lot of stupid crap that gets perpetuated by vendors which gets people who spent maybe tens of thousands of dollars on these vendors really pissed off and riled up.  That's all.

At most a single [ann] section where members can post all the new crypto news and its a single area in the forum where the BS and speculation on delivery dates and wether or not they are scams could be posted their.  I think the reputation would allow us to effectively get rid of the immatures, the bots, and of course, the shills.  Perhaps instead of instant-BAN you could relegate people back into the newbies section for X number of hours/days/weeks/indefinitely.
1516  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How does a new person break into bitcoin mining? on: August 26, 2013, 09:19:04 AM
Buy a few Block Eruptors (maybe a 5 pack to get a bit of a discount), get a Raspberry Pi, and a nice powered USB hub.

Hook it all up into a rig that will consume <30 watts of power, so you can run it for pennies a day, and leave it on for a year.  You might get lucky and make ROI.

The good thing about Block eruptors is that they take so little power, you can run them until the difficulty hits about 750 million, before they start consuming more power money then they produce.  If you can set up a super power efficient rig, you may get lucky.

This is a small investment suggestiong, assuming you have ~200$ to burn, and are OK with maybe only making 100$ back.  From my calculations, you can make ROI on block eruptors still, assuming you can run them for a year.  the difficulty can't rise forever, it has to level off sometime, and I'm placing my bets that it will level off under 750 million at least until you can make ROI on the eruptors.  Maybe next year, when the next gen ASICS hit the market, the difficulty will skyrocket too high.

And yes, you could just buy a few bitcoins and hold onto them, but that's boring Tongue If you want to get in as a hobby, go for a few eruptors and be content with only making half ROI (that's realistic, though I believe you'll make full ROI).

If you want to get into serious business mining, try to buy an early BFL preorder (back from late 2012) and hope that you get lucky on getting it delivered. Otherwise, pick a new company and hope you can get an early preorder.  I've got an Xcrowd preorder in, I'm hoping I can get some good stuff going with that.

that sounds wishy washy super wishful thinking - you could buy those things...maybe...but thats money to burn...people thrive from high selling the block eruptors you will not find fair value outside of using groupbuys here ... instead buy gpus and do alts then resell those gpus later instead.

1518  Other / Politics & Society / Increasing btc adoption on: August 25, 2013, 01:53:05 PM
Yea fucker I got your attention.  Now right now you may be having one of two thoughts - what could this possibly be about?

ADOPTION -   I would like to increase btc adoption.  To increase adoption more people need to be willing to use it.  Willing to use it?  "But its like still pennies on the pennies of what it could be!?"  People refuse to use bitcoin for fear that it will be worth 2, 3, 10 times its current store of value in the next 3 - 5 years.  Even it we were to build up a whole bunch of incentives as to why it would be the killer crypto for use within a mobile application or to pay your car insurance or to a dentist bill, the fact of the matter is that if I'm holding 10 btc that could be worth 10,000 USD in 3-5 years, I would rather hold it than to convert it to 1200 USD today.  2-4 more price inflation bubles need to happen that will bring the price to its artificial high then drop so that the market can better acertain a "fair market value" for btc.

Another way that they could perceptively be increased in value is if we increase the esteem of holding them - such that by being heltd they could be perceived as a solid store of value that cannot be seized or shut down by a 3rd party or government entity. I think I read somewhere that a suprising big way that bitcoins are used now is as a mechanism to provide donations - perhaps if mainstream charities got involved and accepted bitcoin then it would stir up positive media buzz.

Comments or criticisms welcomed...if you got this far...good job BTCBTCBTCBTCBTCBTCBTCBTCBTCBTCBTCBTCBTC for all

1520  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [MUST READ] Butterfly Labs FTC complaint on: August 25, 2013, 11:38:56 AM
I am filing a complaint now:

I bought a BFL single 50 GH bitcoin miner from them.  I used a site called www.bitcoinx.comprofit that shows a banner where they tout a 50 GH miner for a mere 2499.99.  In english that would have translated to what appeared to be 4600 USD per month at the time when I purchased it.  On their site there was a little disclaimer that said it could take two weeks or more to receive my ordered equipment.  I wanted to jump in on the miner because these things are extremely time sensitive and getting it one two or three months later would have a significant impact on my overall profit and ROI.  I got cold feet after waiting over two months and decided to request a refund.  They denied a refund so I went on to initiate a chargeback.  Now they contacted my company with the payment information but never delivered the merchandise nor much anyone elses either.  so at this point, they have recently now announced a new item and they want people to upgrade their past orders.  Now I have no hope of making any money with the device but I wanted my refund already a long time ago!  Please please expose these guys for what they are... pure evil and a new wave of ponzi scheme.  Im still trying to work with Amex to get my money back.

I have also emailed sonny@butterflylabs.com jody@butterflylabs.com and josh@butterflylabs.com I have not received a bounce reply which leads me on to believe that those could be valid emails.  I suggest you submit your claim to the FTC here:
