1101  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Good price at CEX.io on: October 30, 2013, 01:48:49 PM
No thanks, I calculated and gave me negative returns..

 Undecided so you're holding onto your hashpower forever?  why not just play the buy/sell game for gains?
1102  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What next gen miners are worth pre-ordering? on: October 30, 2013, 08:55:47 AM
If I only got a bitcent every time this stupid annoying (no research on my part) question is asked here...
1103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think is the best form to gift BTC? on: October 30, 2013, 08:34:07 AM
I have a plan/pipe dream...to offer this as a gifting service.  I generate a random wallet qr code which is on a keychain.  Comes loaded with .05 btc.  Could wear it with their keys and NOW they can accept bitcoin easily.   Give them the private key stored on a laminated card.  ON the back of the laminated card, have generic directions that say to import your coins into a new wallet to be able to spend them that right now as it stands this wallet only acts as deposit only and requires a different wallet app to "import" the savings key in so that the funds can be spent.

If I make these for sale on honeybadgerofmoney.com do you guys think that they could sell?  I was thinking about selling them for .06 BTC but pre-loaded with .05 BTC.  I'll make an [ann] thread when this idea is in motion.  I was thinking of a generic circular keychain that I would print the address and store inside of.  (page would be printed on both sides so that one side shows the bitcoin logo the other side would show the Public QR address)  The private key card would have the public address and private key in case the keychain itself is destroyed or stolen.

black arrow stays self moderated...I'm seeing a pattern here.

1107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I talked to some people at college about bitcoin and they laughed at me. on: October 29, 2013, 01:23:34 PM
I find that this is just like the internet in the 1990s...you just need a few major first party businesses to get interested and integrated and it could eventually be a domino effect.  Your friends are really short sighted...shouldve told them that starting in 2010 with a plain pc and building your way up would've made enough coin for you to retire....3 years time....
1108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 29, 2013, 11:52:11 AM
I can't find Firmware 95 to re-instate it.

all fw versions are here: https://www.kncminer.com/pages/support

Thanks,

Managed to find the link it had a space too many in it. Hashrate still decreasing though.

Any thoughts? New Mercury with .95 firmware.

 Angry

I bumped my to .97  I did actually experience issues the first time ever today...dropping hashrate...interface would freeze up when trying to connect to it....I tried everything I could...what seemed to fix it was when i disconnected my asic board from the controller board (everything off!)  then connected it to another port.  I dont know if my port is shot, I don't really care though my shit is working and I don't want to fidangle it until difficulty is at 10 billion or higher.  It was clear skys before and now it seems to be hashing really strong at 148 but it was at 135-145 before all that happened today.
1109  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: cex.io vs https://picostocks.com/stocks/view/19 on: October 29, 2013, 11:38:37 AM
Guys - CEX.io is implementing a maintenance fee  on Nov 1 - .001btc/hour.  Just wanted to warn everyone.  I guess If you can afford the fee, it's not an issue.  I pulled out.

It's on their FAQ (bottom of of their page) number 3.

.024 btc per day?  that means you need hashpower that exceeds this correct?  If my back of the napkin calculations are right that is roughly 15 GH a day isn't it just to break even?  Now throw in that extra 30-50 percent increase every 10 days and you're basically playing the inflation game it seems like.
1110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 29, 2013, 10:19:27 AM
^^ All my ASICs have been mining PPC.. by the end of the year I should bring a couple TH/s to that network.

how has that been working for you?  I was thinking about solo mining ppc with my block erupters setup

No different than mining BTC. Just mine it when it's more profitable. Wink I mined a little PPC against Coinotron (https://coinotron.com/coinotron/) yesterday from the hosted setup to test it. Worked fine. However, PPC is slightly less profitable than BTC at the moment,
As for BEs, they are set-up in my unattended front-end (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=149442.0), which uses data from Coinchoose to switch to the most profitable coin at any given time

I'm weary of something utilizing an aggregator because its pulling data based off of small blip or activity in buy or sell orders....convince me otherwise and maybe I'll check it out
1111  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Piper: The Raspberry Pi Paper Wallet Printer is now taking orders! on: October 29, 2013, 09:52:38 AM
How are there no posts on this? This product just seems epic!

It's a novel idea, however the parts cost is under $100 (buying from a company that still charges a good 50% over wholesale). I will say though, it's definitely a great package deal for those who don't have the know-how to put one together themselves.

I have a raspberry pi and a thermal printer and a desire to figure out how to make a version of this!  I saw something called Numbwallet or something that used a few lines of python...couldn't a paper wallet be created with the press of a button?
1112  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Any fluke solo luck stories? on: October 29, 2013, 09:47:06 AM
Alright...alright...I'm getting over it...relax.  Just excited about it and wanted to share it.  It's so smart!  Wondering why don't all the companies do it.

Get over it quicker, please.

I swear as soon as I linked my signature I saw a flood of others doing it too.  I learned to stop chiming up my referral real quick.  So we've come to a thread of bickerings here eh?  Not one person wiling to share their lucky flukes?
1113  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: No mining hardware is worth buying on: October 29, 2013, 09:43:34 AM
it is better to invest your money in BTC, when they are on low price

 Angry Angry Angry oh well im missing the boat!  I wasnt on the buying end for a while now I am!
1114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 29, 2013, 07:48:17 AM
Straight to 0.98...from any version will work
 I'm up late hoping I can flash them before bed... lol

lol same here.  trigger finger getting itchy to pull onto ppc on a solorun for a few weeks.

1116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / if QE causes USD to plummet...does LTC replace USD compared to utilizing btc? on: October 29, 2013, 05:59:28 AM
little people and the huge egos they seem to have.  Stop being ignorant about it...its possible....hell its totally possible with QE going on to where the 100 dollar bill is worth 10 dollars in the next decade due to ridiculous inflation.

having a tough time getting ANY nodes to sync was there ever an update or hard fork that I need to be aware of?
try
Code:
addnode=71.19.153.148
addnode=146.185.148.114
addnode=188.165.19.28
addnode=74.208.170.71
addnode=46.233.6.6
addnode=188.142.26.124

didn't work when I added them to the qt client:

addnode 188.142.26.124 add

It takes the input but doesn't actually update:

It keeps staying disconnected.  I have 800 xjo sent to this wallet but its failing to update so I'm starting to get worried

Close client, kill peers.dat file, add addnode to config, run client.

Didn't seem to resolve it for me..however I didn't have the joulecoin.conf file before.  I figured it was only needed if I were trying to solo mine using the wallet as the host to point my miners towards.  (miners are running in a diff location altogether)  Wasn't sure if it was catching up or not so i decided toscrap the blockchan and redownload it.  I'll followup with you guys here to let you know if I could get it to resolve.

My client was stuck at block 31999.  I downloaded the lastest client which was a different version and that fixed it.  Moved to cryptsy now.
1118  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining on another planet. Possible? on: October 29, 2013, 03:35:51 AM
As far as I understand you could spend a Bitcoin on Mars. The light travel time means it could take up to 30 minutes to get the first confirmation, so that's not a massive problem.

But what about having miners on Mars, perhaps to speed up confirmation times for colonists.

How would the protocol fair when say a block is found on Mars and it could take nearly half an hour for it to arrive on earth?

Last I check there is no internet connection in Mars Smiley

Check again:

"NASA Shoots Lasers at the Moon to Create Insanely Fast Internet"

http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2013/10/nasa-internet-laser/

 laser beam?Huh you mean line of sight.....yea right thats totally economical to limit internet to a 20 minute window each day.
back to reality - don't you think btc will be antiquated?  I don't see humans populating mars at all...or by the time they do, bitcoin will be obsolete completely.  Just cause its a thought doesn't mean it makes any sort of good sense. Mars makes sense like living on the moon does....it doesn't.

1120  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does mining require a professional on: October 29, 2013, 02:21:31 AM
keep in mind...everyone in here has a common interest to deter you away from mining.  You are literally taking away from the pie by entering into the bitcoin game.  This is the way it works with all hardware and cryptocurrency mining.  As far as time to get it up and running, these guys are right.  Its an upfront investment of maybe 5 hours tops if you are using an asic (a little longer if you were stupid and went the gpu route (gpu requires you to test settings and find an ideal middleground setting that won't crash the pc) not stupid totally if you decided to mine alt-coins, but absolutely dumb if you thought you would buy gpus to mine for btc)

I think we've all found out the hard way here, that by attacking the same pie....no matter how much money you throw onto an asic - you're likely to lose btc if you plan to only mine btc with it.  I spent an hour getting my knc miner configured and only because I did a lot of checking here and there I could have just simply entered in my pool credentials (join a pool like btcguild or eligus)  and it began hashing away.  Make sure you have a wallet on your phone or on a secure pc and point your account on the pool to the wallet.

If you used something outdated like bitcoinx.com/profit, then stop, goto a place like mining.thegenesisblock.com and see where you stand for at least the next 90 days.  ignore anything beyond that as there is no way to have the system double upon double upon double every month like their calculator is expecting.
