Guess That settles things  Angry Angry Angry I hate last minute shopping like this!

I think you better off get one psu if something short will fry Hboards with 2 psu and if one of them not shutdown keep going that bad burn.

...

I'm measuring 600w to the power supply with a rig running at this rate.  PLEASE use two seperate PCIe power cables to power your rig.  Check cables for warmth - lets be safe folks!  Be careful trying to plug too many rigs into a single power circuit - 15 amps on a 15 amp breaker is NOT ok Tongue

The cards are very strong and so far very consistent.  There are still some EOL's and a few noisy cards too.

I really hope you are all really happy with these hot rigs!

Cheers,
Dave

Okay so i bought a 460W PSU as the mbp website STILL recommends to do so. https://megabigpower.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=53   (was purchased at the end of September before this announcement was made)

Can I simply buy a 2nd 400W psu and have both sets of pcie cables connect into this miner or is that not recommended?   At this point I would rather pay 15 dollars more for a 2nd psu than to shell out 60 or more for the sake of being able to utilize one plug outlet and one PSU.

not recommended. if you need to shut down the system, powering off 2 psus simultaneously can present issues, especially if 1 unit backfeeds into the other. Your 460w psu is too weak, and almost certianly does not provide the full 460w on the 12v line alone. (probably 60w or more on 5v and 5-15w on the 3v)

at 400GH, the unit can run on about 350w (approx), but the units shipping are effectively optimized more so that they will do 600GH.

Fascinating...reading still right now...but if I get this correct - the concept is that you're mining on something big like btcguild, and copying the entire block header onto your own private pool of work; at the same time, your miner is accepting work and not submitting valid shares to btcguild yet it submits them to the private duplicated pool.

Anytime a Valid Share is found to have met minimum difficulty and discovers a block, it submits this from the private pool and broadcasts to the network?  Network accepts this and the private pool is fed the newly minted coins instead of btcguild?

Hey Frankenmint,

What are you going to do with your 15 minutes of fame? I had to laugh when I saw the picture of you and Scott posing

Exploit it for bitcoin's benefit. Really trying to keep my nose on the trail for small biz that could gain from btc.  I've been having the idea of wanting to create a "bitmob" thread here or possibly to start working with small biz and organizing  bitmobs as the couple "living on bitcoin" is doing.  Also if there are a few more price spikes...it may give people a reason to want to start spending a little bit of their coin rather than hoarding.  Hoping that we see more people willing to part ways with their bitcoin for goods and services sooner than later - if btc hits 800 dollars a coin or more soon and people are still unwilling to spend it, how else could we increase adoption - that's where I'm at right now.

I've had it for a month or so, no big loss as I never expected to make ROI anyway.

Frankenmint, sending you a PM....can get it in the mail tonight.

Ok I sent it to the address specified.  Take pride in knowing that YOUR erupter will be utilized by someone else and may be on the photo of a newspaper, magazine, or facebook page someday.  Be proud.
1087  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: USB Miners on: November 04, 2013, 02:35:14 AM
I'm sure you've heard this over and over again, but don't bother getting a USB miner if you are looking to make profit anytime soon.

+1  I like to buy broken BEs now to convert into decorative lapel pins.  You could maybe break even if you choose to solo mine an alt coin before release...now the new alts like tek, joule, asicoin and butterfly coin seem to be for sale on exchanges so you could consider mining those options too.    If you're investigating this technology with the idea of earning more than .25 btc per device purchased, you're late.

52x
62x
104x

Shipped!

Order 67x not shipped yet. Sad

They're likely bundling stuff together to consolidate shipping costs.  I'd imagine they are in the 400s right now.

Managed to burn one out plugging into some crappy USB hub.  When I plug it into a USB port Windows doesn't detect it and it starts heating up as if it is hashing, but it's not doing anything.  After about 45 seconds it is too hot to touch -- I've tried it on a couple different PCs and both do the same thing.  Just warning you all avoid those junk hubs...and if anyone wants it for decoration or whatever else it's a silver colored one....

I want it .005 btc just ship it 1st class.  I am making them into lapels.
1090  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: where to day trade bitcoins ? on: November 03, 2013, 09:15:05 PM
What are you playing?  Arbitrage or the Long/Short position?  If you're playing Arb then play between bitstamp/coinbase and btc-e.  If you're just playing the long/short position, then play on bitstamp only.  I believe they have the most volume now.  Also btc-e has the lowest volume so its easy to buy them cheapest there but its hard to get money in espcecially if you are located in USA.

1092  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Crazy idea: a new currency "backed by" bitcoin on: November 03, 2013, 08:47:46 AM
it could work...what would be the unit of btc fixed to the currency denominated?  There would have to be a public address and qr code on the note itself.  There would need to be a network of private keys held by the govt such that you could not cash in on notes btc value at all unless you were to request btc equivalent of what is held on the public address.

The govt could also choose to decrease the value of btc held on per note as btc increases so that their currency doesnt hyper inflate in comparison value to usd.  Also, the issue of time and money involved to do it properly would mean that an established developed govt would be the best option.  After all it makes no sense to print a new currency if they all same the same public address or if its easy to replicate/counterfeit the currency which it would seem to be possible unless stringent observations are taken (multiple serial number checks, photocopy/counterfeiting checks), etc.

Also, the big factor/problem is that established governments will not want to participate.  (they currently work like this:  their denizens "TRUST" the priciples of the government and choose to recieve fiat currency that is purely issued.  The value of this newly issued fiat is based on the debt and creditworthiness of the country.)  Its easy for bit countries to issue new dollars, but it was not easy for them to acquire more gold to back these currencies so the countries decided to drop the gold standard back in the 70s.  For a nation to back their fiat with btc it would be similar to rebooting the gold standard and would be restrictive of the level of currency that could be issued.

who pays for downloaded wallpaper?  I could easily google image search this to find the real source and expose you but wont.
1094  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining Gear Suggestions Wanted. on: November 03, 2013, 06:56:12 AM
So you choose to buy a piece of equipment to simply set it up and stare at it?  Why don't you buy a couple GPUs and re-purpose an old computer to mine alt coins instead.  As others said, you could easily throw together 80 more dollars and buy a few block erupters (4) and pull an extra 1.2 Ghash in sha256 from them.  Setup the Block erupters to solo mine and purchase 2 7950s used for say $360 and mod an old computer you currently have to be a mining setup. Sure, it won't be a dedicated Asics Box, but if you're doing that, mining will not remain enjoyable very long (Its simply turn on, set  your pool or solo setup), and then leave.  At least with GPUs there is a tuning phase that can be utilized to see lower power or higher hashrates output and also you have the opportunity to solo mine on more scrypt coins and can hopefully have them pay for themselves sooner.  As others here are alluding to, the Big machines are not available currently anyway, and you COULD wait for the next difficulty spike to procure 30 and 60 ghs bfls from ppl getting them late trying to panic sell them but I doubt anyone here would pay the 2500 to sell them for 600-800 on the spot as someone alluded to.

Cloud mining is also Nice too as a backup hedge and you could take your mining earnings and apply them to cloud mining so they yield their own derivative return.  The referral structure used in my signature alone has paid for itself over and over:

1095  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Megabigpower failed to meed October delivery deadline - refunds? on: November 03, 2013, 06:45:21 AM
MBP seems to cherry pick when they want to issue refunds so that they can issue them at a sky high price against USD so you receive half to 1/3rd of the btc paid to them.  I'd like to see my refund processed soon and I feel like the shipping delays were somewhat out of their control but this isnt.

1097  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: USB block erupters long LED blink on: October 31, 2013, 09:50:40 AM
i think this is from rejected shares? maybe someone can confirm

My BE's long blick = accepted shares, just like short blinks. I have no idea what is going on, but yeah... hope this helps.

No I was under the impression that it was your BE being set to a different timing for a higher difficulty.  I've seen various ones do this long blink in a random sequence as if the timing was adjusted by the mining software.

Sorry in advance

Does anyone else flock to this thread specifically to see if Dave has thrown in an update between the other replies?  Did my "wasted" update to this thread cause you to flock here hoping it was Dave too?
