bitcoin's long-term price Cheesy

On CryptoGrafitti matters, what is preventing you from adding such functionality to Bitcoin wallet itself?

I don't think the community would want that. The Bitcoin Core is meant to carry only the basic functionality that is needed for the network to operate. Unfortunately the devs went rogue already and implemented HTTPS and some payment request crap so even the bitcoin is slowly becoming bloatware. I don't want to contribute to turning Bitcoin-core into even more bloatware.

Is it similar to www.proofofexistence.com?

It is similar and cryptograffiti can be used the same way actually, except currently cryptograffiti is all manual so that the user needs to make an appropriate transaction for the data to be saved in the block chain. Cryptograffiti is free while proofofexistence charges some money.
1563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CryptoGraffiti - Block Chain Message Encoder & Decoder on: September 23, 2014, 11:03:17 AM
Am I correct in assuming that with messages like this one (#1125) https://blockchain.info/tx/cc38d740dc1999a803dbba0c48a82af994861e0767f6bcd7d6ceebe4e66b4678

it's the case that these outputs can never be spent and therefore they have to remain in the utxo (unspent transaction output) set permanently?

That's true.
1564  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone else hedging? on: September 22, 2014, 07:25:25 PM
Seeing as I have a large amount of PPC...

IF the wallet is encrypted can I still "Proof of shake" mine..?

I only half get the concept.. I could put about 700 PPC in one wallet if I wanted although all that PPC in one place makes me uneasy.

I tried it on NXT but it kept going on about how I didn't have enough NXT coins... Sad.  I am currently POW mining PPC.

depends on which PPC wallet you use. the qt wallet needs a special command to enable stake minting.
for example:
Quote
(./ppcoind walletpassphrase **************** 9999999 true &)

starts stake minting, transactions still require password every time

I bought into PPC on Monday last week because of http://www.nubits.com/ news. BTC went down and PPC went up, very good hedge. Tomorrow Nubits is publicly released, expect PPC to go even higher.
It's already factored in. You won't see crazy gains, you might even see losses if it's not what the investors expected.

Have you even looked at the all-time BTC/PPC chart? There's no better price to buy in than the 0.0015 - 0.0017 range. If it crashes down there I will gladly buy a shit load of more PPC and grow my stake.

This seems to me just to be another alt coin release...  I don't understand what is so special about Nubits..

It's not entirely Nubits! Read between the lines. The real big news is that PeerShares is finished and will be released. NuBits is just the first use case for PeerShares. PeerShares is the innovation I've been waiting for a year now and the reason why I bought into PPC so massively last year. If PPC goes to the Moon I will make shit load of profit by Proof of Stake mining.

Price already pumped, expect nice crash on the news.

if it crashes I'll simply buy more, but right now I have tripled my wealth that is stored in PPC.

1568  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who else has invested in LTC? on: September 21, 2014, 09:25:48 PM
I invested in LTC when it traded 0.5$ each. I sold at 15$ never to buy back. LTC is worthless. Buy PPC.
1569  Economy / Speculation / Re: $100,000 BTC before 2016 on: September 21, 2014, 02:17:26 PM
My prediction: shit hits the fan before 2016 (whatever that means)
1570  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Butterfly labs to file for bankruptcy by December 2014 on: September 21, 2014, 02:12:30 PM
I'm so glad I got a refund of 6 BTC in July from BFL and that I bought 3500 PPC for that refund money on Monday this week. The Peercoins I bought are now worth 13 bitcoins Cheesy

But seeing them going bankrupt makes me wonder why they refunded in the first place? Shouldn't a sinking company keep the money for themselves?
1571  Economy / Economics / Re: Corporate entities should have a forced maximum lifespan on: September 20, 2014, 10:59:34 AM
Exactly. The companies that are not able to meet the needs of their customers while keeping costs below revenues will eventually die off. Companies that are able to evolve and adapt to changing markets will prosper. It is Darwinism at it's finest.

Makes sense. We can see a company as a species. Although individual members of the species have rather short life spans the species in its totality can potentially live very old.
1572  Economy / Economics / Re: Corporate entities should have a forced maximum lifespan on: September 19, 2014, 09:01:55 PM
I agree, fuck all these monopolies man.

Quite true, we don't have capitalism --- we have monopolism.

Perhaps you should of written in the title that this is in fact the masturbatory fantasy

So you took the bait, big deal. I won't remember your account name anyway in the future when your credibility as a righteous participant in a discussion might really matter.  Kiss
1574  Economy / Economics / Re: Corporate entities should have a forced maximum lifespan on: September 19, 2014, 04:56:12 PM
To the guys calling me an idiot: you have fallen into the trap of seeing just what you want to see.

To others: nice discussion and I thank you for participation. Many interesting thoughts have been generated as a result of my original post and I am now convinced that while the idea suits well for science fiction stories it has no place in the capitalistic world.

I would also like to emphasize that what I brought up is actually already present in a form of CEO mortality. For example, Apple sort of died with Jobs.

AAPL capitalization when Jobs died (Oct 2011) was ~ $325B. AAPL capitalization today is over $600B. Yep, Apple sort of died.  Roll Eyes

Yes, Apple As We Knew It sort of died, happy?

By the way, you will die too. And guess what, even if the bitcoins you hold during the moment of your death double their value YOU STILL DIE. So don't give me the numbers, you are clearly missing the point, whether on purpose or due to stupidity is another question. If you die you are no longer able to stand for your views. Can Jobs do that from his grave? No. If anything, he will just flip his side in his grave if the new company leaders fuck something up. Cheesy
1575  Economy / Economics / Re: Corporate entities should have a forced maximum lifespan on: September 19, 2014, 04:50:33 PM
Actually have to point this out?

If a company, which relies on free and voluntary interactions between customers and company, has been around for 100 years it must be because the customers value the company because the company pleases them. Thus you are stating that you should destroy something which is pleasing the community to make way for something that isn't pleasing the community (because new business can not compete without resources it can not get without coercive redistribution)?

This is one of the least thought through argument I have ever seen, not even counting the avocation of the use of force to steal another's property!

You clearly have missed the point here. I am not trying to propagate the system that I came up with. I don't even like it myself so why are you trying to debate me and portray me stupid? Cheesy I am not your opponent, I agree with you but you seem to be so shallow minded that you think people never fantasize. You have to admit that playing the Devil's Advocate can turn out to be very useful sometimes because it makes people think from a new angle --- a more unorthodox angle. This is how innovation is born --- by thinking outside the box, by fantasizing.
1576  Economy / Economics / Re: Diversify BTC holdings into real estate, income tax? on: September 19, 2014, 04:42:15 PM
Why would you do such an exercise? If you were to disregard the tax aspect of this you would be risking that the price of bitcoin be rising while you own fiat.

Your example is an example as to how you could maximize your tax liability however people tend to do the opposite and try to make their tax liability as low as possible.

Isn't minimizing your tax liabilities equivalent to avoiding taxes? Cheesy so it's pretty much a criminal act...

I did not know that tax system is so ambiguous. It's clearly not created by mathematicians and programmers but by stupid politicians instead.
1577  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Profit from the slow decline of BTC while holding on: September 19, 2014, 04:35:42 PM
I think it is a good idea for issuing share and keep track the ownership. But we need regulators to protect investors.

I don't see how it couldn't work with regulations. PeerShares is just a technology. You can still build regulations on top of that.

Speaking of PPC, god it tripled its value since I bought in Cheesy

Starts to look like a parabolic rise already Cheesy and it's not even 23rd yet. Will we see some premature crashes like with AuroraCoin?

1579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Profit from the slow decline of BTC while holding on: September 16, 2014, 02:30:29 PM
so its basically just another asset exchange.

it's not an exchange. Exchanges can integrate PeerShares if they want to but PeerShare block chains can be created by anyone without the need to create a new altcoin.
1580  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Profit from the slow decline of BTC while holding on: September 16, 2014, 01:54:00 PM
What's PeerShares?

I'm glad you asked Cheesy because PeerShares is the very reason I'm so bullish on Peercoin. You can check it out here: http://peershares.net/

But simply put, peershares allows anyone to easily create their own PoS based shares as a separate block chain. These shares can be traded on exchanges similarly to altcoins in general. However, it has built into the PeerShares protocol that the issuer of the shares can easily send dividends to all the shareholders. The dividends will be sent as peercoins.

Simple use case for PeerShares:
You have a great idea of another Satoshi Dice implementation. You create 1000000 shares out of thin air and sell them to investors. Now when your project starts generating revenue you are going to pay dividends to the shareholders but thanks to PeerShares you don't have to track the ownership of the shares yourself. Instead you will just throw the peercoins into the PeerShares network as dividends and they become available to every shareholder accordingly to their share. The shareholders can sell their shares even OTC if they wanted to.
