1581  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Mining bitcoin with 1st gen hw doesnt seem to make sense at all by next year on: July 23, 2013, 09:58:32 AM
In terms of BTC difficulty makes no sense to mine late next year even as next gen hardware will simply "keep up" into this spiraling hardware race.  A KNC Jupiter for example, It loses profitability once you touch november so for that matter once you touch week 2-3 of october (the calculator doesnt go as far as weeks into difficulty).  This calculator brings a very realistic and different picture from the known bitcoinx.com/profit calculator showing a miner.  I'm starting to believe that this is truly a "shovels" industry that mining companies are doing and that you can't win unless you buy in early enough.  This is just like the "block eruptor" argument...even if you had 4000 block eruptors, they still cost you 3-4k bitcoins...will you make ROI?   NEVER - the efficiency curve is just too high due to too many current asic first entrants.

Does it make sense to take that same money to various exchanges and buy up a pleathora of Alt coins - Probably not, but maybe if one or two skyrocket and you chose them then you have still gained from those bubbles.  Just make sure to cash in on those bubbles. Others have noted that the same money can be used to hold bitcoins instead and to sell them at appreciated gains and of course acquire them at low values.  Soon if not yet so, Mt Gox is supposed to also carry litecoin so hopefully that helps bring crypto to mainstream.
1582  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: July 23, 2013, 09:09:39 AM
So..difficulty is up to 31M already which concerns me.  As someone who has a Mercury on order that I don't expect to see until October at the earliest, according to the new mining calculator at the genesis block mining.thegenesisblock.com, things aren't looking favorable

For me, its looking like 140 days to break even, then maybe $300-$400 gain over that before losing money.  I could upgrade to a Saturn but those don't look much better - Jupiters still looking decent though.

So for me, as much as I want to support KnC, I'm considering canceling strictly based on current/projected difficulty...anyone else?

there is a slim possibility that either BTC price will go up substantially or that other alt-sha256 coins will come into prominence along with bitcoin.  There is likely use for asic bitcoin hardware but it will now be a knowledge and efficiency game to find that next new coin and get in while difficulty is low.
1583  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU mining profit vs. ebay depreciation on: July 17, 2013, 12:01:24 AM
Well, I currently get 285 Mhash/sec, so your 310 is pretty close to what I get.

I'm currently making 6 mBTC a day, and it's slowly dropping.  At 100$, that's 0.60$ a day.  So... Technically, assuming free electricity, even if you only get 0.0000001 coins, it's still profitable, because you are getting something out of "nothing".   However, I'm stopping soon,  (maybe 1 or 2 more difficulty increases) because I've just passed the beak even point.  It takes me $0.67 a day in power to run my rig, and I'm now less then that on the coins I'm making, so I'm going to stop.  Maybe once I drop below $0.40 a day, or even $0.50.

I don't understand your question about the graphics card depreciation...

He wants to know the sweet spot for when to sell his gfx card.

Presuming you bag roughly .006 btc per day with a 10% drop in earnings every 11 days  the "talking out of my ass" value says to sell it in 8 months

1584  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where will we be in 90 days? on: July 16, 2013, 11:55:17 PM
Everyone, cryptocurrency needs 2 more things at this exact moment for it to even hit that 450 dollar mark ol boy mentioned earlier:

1 Much MUCH more attention - Cryptocurrency is STILL not very mainstream.  Some people here and there in passing mention it, but it isn't widely known yet...which leads us to the second (LARGER) problem of

2 adoption.  I guarantee you that if 20% of the fortune 100 Commerce were to switch over and allow bit-coin in addition to Credit cards for both online and for in store transactions, that it would A) increase in awareness, B) rise in popularity as there is now a different way to establish and trade your digital value for goods with real "inherent value"

At this point in time, btc and other alt coin prices are purely driven by consumer speculation and the supply and demand of feeding that speculation with available alt-coins for sell.
1585  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: A n00b guide on starting a mining pool? on: July 16, 2013, 10:54:32 PM
Not very helpful.

Many people have started their own pool from scratch by asking around on this forum - that's what a forum is for - getting help. Nobody knows anything until they ask, that's how knowledge is obtained. I suggest you keep asking around the forums, amongst the nay-sayers you will get some very good advice - good luck.

I would beg to differ - a vast majority of pool operators are simply doing their own offshoot version of the p2pool api.
1586  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: I'm starting to get fucking pissed (BFL) on: July 16, 2013, 07:50:27 PM
My advice: get a refund and don't look back.
My advise is - Unite and go to the court. It is US company after all. Where is American justice on the movies only or? I am pretty dam sure that there will be a plenty of lawyers interested in such big case we are talking for millions. When they see a REAL i repeat A !REAL! thread about their business and personalities things will start to move in a right direction FAST!

Remember - You have to unite first and act as ONE otherwise you are going to loose for SURE

Best
PS:
I can bet if all of you fire a claim worth for millions for preordes and another one 10xMilions for lost profits you will be rewarded with a lot of free units and all other fancy stuff coming from BFL. But i doubt it will happen because here everyone watches his own interest only and there is no community spirit at all. I might be wrong about the lack of spirit and i do really want to be ...only time will tell

If Landlord was just like BFL they would kick out BFL when they start bitching about the rent increases...Hence they are being shortsighted
1587  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BF Labs Inc. IS stealing from their Bitcoin Development Fund! on: July 14, 2013, 05:02:43 PM
Except, we did mention it.  It's listed on the BitcoinDF site. http://www.bitcoindf.org/project/wayside-waifs-19/

See if you can fail harder, Bruno, you lying piece of shit.  You are truly one of the most worthless human beings I have ever met, you barely qualify as human.  You are the most dishonest person on these forums and that's saying a lot.  Not a single honest thing comes out of your posts, ever.

Just more proof of what type of character you are - lying, irresponsible waste of humanity.

from the COO of BFL folks - WOULD YOU REALLY GIVE YOUR MONEY TO A COMPANY THAT IS RUN BY THE CHARACTER ABOVE?

1588  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Selling btc Rigs. on: July 12, 2013, 10:16:13 AM
So I'm not sure if anyone here has ordered a custom ASIC mining rig from MrBitCoin916 although I have and wanted to document the purchase process so that others that have heard of him know what to expect.  I am in no way saying that he is legit at this point but wanted to make others aware of what has happened so far.

I purchased a 50GHash ASIC from MrBitCoin916 on June 4th and have high hopes that I will get it soon.  This being said I have seen nothing besides a few images of the rig being tested in Slush's pool.  If anyone has any thoughts please let me know as well as anyone else who have ordered one (your inout would be greatly appreciated)

Below is the article that I have started and will add pictures and video of the rig (or lack thereof) as I have more to share:
http://www.brandonorndorff.com/bitcoin/mrbitcoin916s-50ghash-asic-bitcoin-mining-rig-order-experience/

Is this satire? It sure sounds like satire.  I really hope for for your sake that this is not a serious post.

SCAMMER

I bought a miner from him as well - a 50 GH/s miner using Paypal.  He uses the Refund Guarentee as a ploy to sweeten the deal.  Everything was screaming scam to me when I asked him for photos and he refused.  He will pass of a screenshot of a his "2.4 TH Rig mining along with a 50GH/S testing unit"  Brandon's article shows him using this name:   Arthur Bruce.  For being in Sacramento - his Telephone code is a Fresno Area code = first red flag.  His name doesn't match the paypal name on my reciept and details are different.

I was trying not to speak up and was willing to wait it out until my anticipated delivery date of 7-13 but after finding his info didn't match Brandon's, I've decided to speak up and point this out for what is...another scammer.
1589  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Clone from Ohio on: July 12, 2013, 10:06:32 AM
I saw these guys....Super expensive Is 125 BTC really worth a mere 90GH?  we are talking like 12.5K if you are using $100 USD per BTC.  almost 2x as much as an Avalon.
1590  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Change Bitcoin SHA-256 to SCRYPT on: July 12, 2013, 09:45:42 AM
What would it take to get the algo changed from SHA-256 to Scrypt?

Jazkal= pissed off from the fact that he's 3 years late.  I think myself and everyone else who bought into asics hardware would be up in arms  if that happens.  Likely BTC falls out of prominence and PPC becomes the Reining Champ - thus keeping the sha256 dominance maintained.  If you can't read into that there was bits of sarcasm peppered into the statement above.
1591  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Simple argument for FPGA on: July 12, 2013, 09:13:11 AM
Bingo.  This is what I am basically seeking here.  I am new to bitcoin, but not new to engineering.  Your comment is useful - I will be in touch with you about what we have in mind and I'll see if I am full of shit or not.

The other idea is of course buying the ICs and doing a straight up board.  I do not feel confident or even know how I could feasibly produce my own IC's...that is why I liked the FPGA idea from the get go.  But in truth if the ICs themselves are affordable then yes that is an option.

But my thought now is they will not be affordable and worth doing this as long as the ICs are made by the same companies that produce the  complete mining units.

I'm not trying to be an asshole or anything but you talk a big game of strategy like the other player entrants into this before you didn't think that maybe there was an opportunity there.  If you look at Blackarrow for instance (https://www.cardreaderfactory.com/shop/lancelot.html), this shows you that their boards will cost about 300 dollars and maybe have 80 more hashes above the Block Eruptor you bought.

The FPGA market has two things working in its favor

1 is the fact that they are predominately available whereas a majority of Asics are not - Vendors realize this and increase the price as the market bears it.

2 is the fact that FPGAs UNLIKE ASICS CAN and ARE re-purposed for other projects/reasons.  They have a life after bitcoin use "in the right hands".

I'm on the same page with Crazy Yates - Anyone can talk big, but numbers solidify things.  Without them, you're not so concrete.  Not trying to seem like a naysayer/basher here; I mean its good to be thinking about how we can be innovating and increase hashpower, but looking at the other thread where people showed pictures of their so called "mining rigs" made up of 20+ hub chained USB sticks and I'm just like WTF were "YOU" thinking?  I see those and think of the people who just saw "available now" and thought this was their only shot to break into their own personal btc harvesting business.

The guy who said he used his previous mining proceeds to buy those block eruptors was hella smart if he got in at the .95 BTC price point.  He would be even smarter if he decides to sell them 1 by 1 on ebay each week while waiting for his KNC "preorder"...Probably could have placed that on preorder WHILE also buying maybe a 3rd of the Block eruptors and while he wouldn't see the same amt up front, he could see a profitable roi by slowly selling off the Block eruptors while waiting for the "big machine"
1592  Economy / Economics / Re: History quotation btc on: July 12, 2013, 08:31:46 AM
Is there any site that simply, it is possible to see what was the value of BTC on any given day?

shocked you dont know of using mtgox.com to do this.  There are also widgets, I use a bictoin price widget within google chrome so i dont need a web window to see the price.  Very nice to see jumps when you look away then glance back Smiley
1593  Economy / Speculation / Re: Simple reason for the price spike... why this weekend's dip will be deep on: July 12, 2013, 01:00:28 AM
bitcoin undervalued? nobody knows real price. to me it worth few grams of weed , thats all

few grams = 8th = street value around 50 bucks...therefore your speculation postulates approximately 50 USD per 1 BTC.

Clarification for readers in cyberspace
1594  Economy / Economics / Re: Snowden and bitcoins on: July 11, 2013, 09:20:30 PM
Cool but sad

I know its out of context - but snowden is a total asshole in a way if that be the case.
1595  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Simple argument for FPGA on: July 11, 2013, 08:52:46 PM
It is clear to me that manufactured ASIC's will always sell for more than they are worth (in returns).

It is also clear (to me) that specialized IC's (I did not use the term ASIC) are "what is up"

==> if professionally developed and marketed gear always costs too much, and integrated circuits are dominating...

enter FPGAs to the forefront of real profit for miners (the other profiteer being the manufacturers)

OMG you breathe FUD....how many fpgas did you buy that you're trying to peddle off on the next quick impulse buyer via ebay ==I was the goofball that bought some like 2 months ago.  Who says an ASIC isnt a specialized IC --- they are just that, the same thing:  specialized and application specific.
1596  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: July 11, 2013, 11:54:54 AM
Well, they are talking about upgrade modules.
Two question came into my mind :
Can you add the module yourself or does KNC have to do it ?
When will the modules start shipping (September, October ...) ?

I'm willing to bet we could add them ourselves unless they are talking the 1-4 chips per board where 2 = Saturn 4 = jupiter.  Yea I would also like some pictures too, but I'm feeling like they are still in process of designing and sourcing cases.  Otherwise there would have been those already.  This also goes back to the possibility that they may be trying to hide advancements or NRE developments made while processing that they want to remain as proprietary.  I'm hoping to get a glance at the types of cases they plan to use.  I am planning to have it in a location where it shouldnt be DIY but very sturdy.  The Mars FPGA prototype and that other long looking version of it were not very convincing to me for longer term durability.

Just observing - are those photos on their site made from Google Sketchup?
1597  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Today, soon we will witness an extremely high jump in difficulty on: July 11, 2013, 09:19:02 AM
Jump from 21.3 to 26.1 Million, 22.5%
Signs of things to come. The ASIC floodgates have been released.
This is a result of continuous ~1.02X daily mining growth.
I estimate that in 4 months (October 2013) Difficulty with be 10X of today's difficulty somewhere between 250 - 300 Million.

So please be very aware before spending those coins Wink

It's not going to be anywhere near that high by October. I predict it will be somewhere around 50 million by then.

Here is why not:

- Butterfly Labs is shipping very slowly. They are not going to get through their backlog of preorders in 90 days like they promised. They probably won't even get through 25% of their pre-orders in 90 days. They are shipping very few singles and seem to have completely stopped shipping jalapenos
- Avalon batch #2 is done shipping now I believe. Batch #3 will likely ship soon, but there isn't likely be a batch #4. Batch #3 isn't really that many machines (compared to BFL pre-orders at least).
- Avalon chips look like they might be delayed too. And I believe people are underestimating how long it will take to get the first Avalon clones working and how long it will take to get them built and shipped in any significant quantities. We probably won't see them in large numbers until October at least.
- KNC might actually ship on time, but they aren't due to start until Sept or Oct. Anything could delay them and I wouldn't be too surprised if they don't ship until the end of the year.
- ASIC Miner will continue to ship their miners but even if they drop their prices, they are less attractive now because of the recent difficulty increases. ASIC Miner themselves will only add mining power as necessary to hover around 25-30% of the world hashrate.

I just don't see where 10 times the current hash power is going to come from in the next 3-4 months to get the difficulty that high.

Doubling is likely, but not 10+ times.

we wish to everything you're right except the thing is that....its inevidable that the difficulty will hit an exponential growth rate specifically when market forces allow mining companies to have plenty of stock to sell.  I'd have like 10 miners by now if I could because of the returns on it...like the person above said, its sort of controlled at the moment as companies race to make a superior asic...bfl will probably show a large jump soon I think we are being naive to think they will stay slow forever...if they can show an impressive turnaround they will have repeat purchases.
1598  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BFL Ban Directs Back Here on: July 10, 2013, 10:15:54 PM
Jody disabled her blog comments "for the week".
HA

Yeah, I saw this, too. I also talked to a lawyer about the whole non refund issue and they gave me several routes to go down (one of them being small claims court, which I am looking into further). I would be interested to see how many people would be interested in a class action lawsuit, though, as they are clearly breaking some laws when it comes to the FTC's rules.

Not surprised.
I would be on board if not for the fact I'm RIGHT FREAKIN THERE on the order. Its so close. But they just won't move past the 23rd. Its like they're shipping 20 units a day out of a couple thousand.

not worth it...just contest with your cc company.  If you live in KS and don't have a day job, that's one thing, but otherwise, you're losing out on job time and travel expenses not to mention lawyer retainers and court fees.  You won't get back any "speculated lost earnings"  only your money that you invested into the device.  Just file it with your CC company for non-receipt of merchandise and refusing to furnish a concrete commitment date to perform the transaction (shipping the unit to you)

I like how I saw a picture on ow.ly for Inaba on "how many units are stuffed into this USPS truck here"  Its like 50 units in a usps truck they all boast "we'll bump units to 400 plus a day" but thats not going to happen
1599  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: DO NOT USE CAMPBX! on: July 10, 2013, 04:50:18 AM
CAMPBX has the worst customer service possible! They IGNORE your messages for as long as possible!

I made a domestic wire for $7,500 over 7 business days ago!

I had made successful previous domestic withdraws with CampBX before.

They are not giving me any response to why my 7.5k has yet to show up after 7 business days.

I cannot be out of this much money for too long. This is horrible a USA based exchange and I still have problems getting my USD.

Also I am a verified customer on CampBx with a 15k withdraw limit.

What should I do if CampBX does not give me a response soon? I called the bank and they have no information for me. CampBX has yet to send me a wire confirmation number?

Should I send them a demand letter or should I call the police?

Also whats with all this bullshit with exchanges saying that banks have a "manual" wire room? Hello! We live in a digital world!!!! (maybe i'm wrong, I just never heard of it until now)

Maybe things have changed or maybe I have never been made aware but I have ran successful online e-commerce business in the past where I had international and domestic wires for over $100k on a

daily basis and never had these problems. I never once heard of a "bank wire room with manual wires". When ever I had problems with a wire I would get a wire confirmation number to trace it from the bank and it did not take 7 business days!

So I just don't understand the lack of support and customer service we get when it comes to bitcoin.

p.s. CampBx was my favorite exchange until this happened. It worked great until now. Their customer service is about to turn me away forever from them.

BUT DID YOURS GET FIXED?

Paid a couple of bills with BTC last week. Probably going to stock up on some more BTC today.
