161  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Obligatory I'm not dead or running post on: March 05, 2014, 01:02:49 AM
Just to note that by extension if Theymos got his coins back and then John did not return the coinroll coins it does cast a shadow of doubt on Theymos although we cannot blame him for Johns actions

Anyways thats about as far as the accusation against Theymos on this case can go
Guess if John immediately reappears then that would be interesting as well

theymos did get the forum's coins back from him
162  Economy / Gambling / Re: One thread per site ONLY on: March 04, 2014, 06:04:50 PM
I think this is a bit unfair, some guys are getting all of referrals because of this...

If the first post contains a referral link please report it, that's not allowed.

Is it allowed if its your site and you want to track how many users you are getting from here?

I think in that situation it would be ok.

I'm not sure if it's needed, the trust system should be able to give people a good warning.
165  Other / Meta / Re: Questions to theymos about the $1,000,000 forum software project on: March 01, 2014, 09:51:44 PM
There is 6200BTC here : https://blockchain.info/address/17RTTUAiiPqUTKtEggJPec8RxLMi2n9EZ9

The truth is Theymos is taking decisions as well as he can, it is a bit authoritative and many old members don't agree with his decisions but it is how it works now so we have to rely on his; it will change and everything will be different in a few years because it isn't stable enough atm
I like the idea that he is a good guy, he can definitely be influenced and that is why I threw my idea of a big giveaway; the most recent members don't always feel welcome and they would after a huge giveaway

I think that if he's truly acting in the best interest on the community, then he shouldn't have any issues explaining his reasoning or actions.  Since he won't/can't do that, it looks pretty sketchy.  I don't think it's too much to ask since he's dropped $350,000 out of ~$1,000,000 total on a new forum.
166  Other / Meta / Re: Questions to theymos about the $1,000,000 forum software project on: March 01, 2014, 03:29:42 PM
AC brings up a really good point... we still haven't seen any proof of the payment.

theymos or wangbus,

Please show us the transaction(s) where the $350,000 payment was sent.

No they both should show, and both have to sign their respected addresses.

This would be best and should only take minutes to do... I guess transparency is overrated

It's looking like we'll never see proof of payment
167  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: March 01, 2014, 03:28:10 PM
I think we really just need to give it some time to see how it plays out.  Per what theymos has said part of it is based off of age of feedback, so we won't really know for a few months.  Plus if it is bad it can always be changed/removed.

It was implemented in May 2013... I think it's had time to play out already  Tongue
168  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: February 28, 2014, 01:07:39 AM
I'm also a PD user so I feel somehow that you are also indirectly talking to me  Wink
What do you consider spamming? Do you for instance think I am a spammer, if you have a look at my prior posts? PD also pays only out for constructive posts.

I really doubt PD is looking at every post of every person... actually I'm sure they're not, as that would be a full time job and they could just post themselves instead.  Paid signatures that pay per post encourage spam.

Thanks for styling limitations theymos. Now I can Unignore most of the PD spammers.

The real problem is spamming, because of pay-per-post signatures. We should do something about it. I see a lot of people try to write +1000 posts in a month, so spam is inevitable. You don't have to write every thread you read.
You still can't argue with it being unfair towards the people who don't spam.
Changing signatures only damages the community, banning spammers helps it.
Also as stated above, the main advertising sites like primedice only pay for -constructive- posts.
It's in their interest to not pay out for spam as it gives their service a bad name.

How does changing signatures damage the community?  If the only reason your posting here is to get money, then you really don't belong here.

Your friend lied, mining from a phone isn't viable.
170  Other / Meta / Re: Who decides about top-pinned topics? on: February 27, 2014, 06:05:20 PM
Mods/Admins can sticky topics.  Your thread definitely won't be stickied as it contains a referral link in the OP (which you should remove).

172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open Wallet Experiment on: February 27, 2014, 02:20:43 PM
Hello all

We're a small R&D unit working for a bigger creative agency. We've launched a little bitcoin experiment to a) help us learn about bitcoin (steep learning curve so far!) and b) to see if the anonymous nature of transactions encourages selfish behaviour or whether the bitcoin community can prove itself as wholesome as a troop of boy scouts. Basically we're making public both the wallet address and the key, allowing people to give and take from the wallet as they see fit. At the end of the experiment, we'll give anything left in the wallet to the Disaster Emergency Committee.
I know it sounds *unwise* and we might end up with egg on our faces - very keen to read your thoughts and views. We have thick-ish skins.
If you want to find out more, there's some information here http://thinky.do/open-wallet-experiment/
The wallet address for donations is 19xnfvdAHitNErAGEhVnfkeBSTL8VVv8yV
The key for withdrawals is 2G6uK7QwKRPntaS7drFSUVsUf24ZVmEaK8gET2K2Uj4w

Thanks for reading.

Well that wallet will never have funds in it now, someone probably already has a sweep setup on it.
173  Other / Meta / Re: Quick Question on: February 27, 2014, 01:30:41 PM
Let's say I have 250 posts and 100 activity. Will my activity increase to 250 alone (not logging in) OR do I need to login once every 2 weeks OR do I need to post once every 2 weeks?

Yes, you have to post in each 2 week period for your activity to go up.
174  Other / Meta / Re: Tomatocage negative trust on: February 27, 2014, 12:13:26 PM
Your best bet is to talk to the guy who left the feedback, not to come to Meta and complain.  He's the only one that will be able to remove it (theymos could, but he's not going to)
175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you pay a specific $ if you aren't holding Bitcoin on: February 27, 2014, 12:32:20 AM

My recipient is in Europe.  I'm in the USA.  I owe him $5880 USD right now. He wants to be paid in Bitcoin.

He said to make the payment based on Bitstamp price.
But I am buying them through Coinbase.
Coinbase wants $594 per coin.  Bitstamp has them at $585.
$5880 has to come out of my bank account.  Not a penny more.  Not a penny less.
If I price it at $585 then $5880 doesn't come out of my account.  Less comes out.

---------------------------------------------------

Coinbase makes me wait until Monday to receive the coins.
By that time, the $5880 coming out of my account may only buy 7 bitcoins.
So what he receives next week may only be worth $4,000 and he won't be happy.

If I don't already have the Bitcoins on-hand, how the heck do I pay this guy exactly $5880 USD right now?

You don't?  There's really no easy way to instantly get bitcoins in a situation like this.
176  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: February 26, 2014, 09:29:10 PM
Perhaps the allowed signature styling should change with activity score / membergroup. Like:
- Newbie: No styling (including links) allowed. Max 40 characters.
- Jr. Member: Links allowed. Max 100 characters.
- Member: Unlimited length.
- Full: Color allowed.
- Sr. Member: Size allowed
- Hero: Background color allowed

Then newbies will be less effective advertisers, which would hopefully significantly reduce the incentive for low-content posts. And when people become capable of effectively advertising through their signatures, they'll have invested a lot of time into their accounts, and they won't risk being banned by spamming.

I think that could work.  Though, there is the possibility that someone may still pay on a per post basis... but it's unlikely to be worth it with the changes.
177  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: February 26, 2014, 01:17:02 AM
The easiest solution seems to be stopping them from paying per post.  Salty has the right idea.
178  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: February 25, 2014, 06:15:25 PM
It's increasing the amount of registerations and the amount of people posting and keeping this forum active also I'm hoping to get 10 Bitcoin to donate to the forum  Cheesy

I would argue that it's killing the forum...  Increasing registrations and people posting isn't always a good thing, it's quite hard to find useful information here now.  The only reason I come to the forum is to moderate really, I hardly spend any time at all browsing because it is way too hard to find anything of importance.

Also, why do you want to donate to the forum?  More money is definitely not needed, you should look how current funds have been handled, and it'll take a long time (if even possible) to earn 10 BTC from paid signature advertising.
179  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: List of sites with free BTC on: February 25, 2014, 04:44:53 PM
@OP

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=20333.0 See #4, creating a post to post referral links = referral spam.  I removed the referral part of the links from the post, then you put them back in.

Then define spam, i had couple ref links in a list of 16 sites. Maybe we have different views but i wouldn't call that a spam.
And whole post was removed, not just ref links.

Referral spam to me is any post where the first one contains a referral link.  I removed the referral part of your links, you added them back in, I then realized I needed to get a stronger message across.
180  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: February 25, 2014, 04:43:08 PM
I think it's a great idea, paid signatures add nothing to the site and only encourage useless posts.  There are way too many people who post in every topic because it gets their post count up, the posts look useful but overall it really just adds to the noise.

Good luck getting glorious leader to make a change!
