161  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-01] Eminem’s Latest Album Kamikaze Name-Checks Bitcoin on: September 04, 2018, 05:35:44 PM
It's confirmed, news outlets ran out of content to write about

Exactly my thoughts. I think there's only so much news about bitcoin these days so anything that vaguely mentions bitcoin somewhere becomes a topic of interest and then gets reported on by a bitcoin blog. I'm waiting for the time that a celebrity takes a fart or sneezes and the noise sounds like it might have had something to do with bitcoin and that gets reported as "celebrity endorses bitcoin".   Grin

On a more less cynical viewpoint, the more times bitcoin is mentioned it does mean it's become more mainstream and relevant, but this mention still isn't much to get excited about.
162  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: September 04, 2018, 02:23:07 PM
Really sucks that as soon as the season starts & we start to enjoy watching football regularly again a pointless international break comes. I mean seriously, what is the fucking point? The World Cup only finished about 2 months ago & 4 games into the PL season we have to stop for a couple of shitty friendlies.

I agree. Always bores me when the international break is on.

Spurs made all their subs in the last 3 minutes and brought on Llorente, Winks and Rose. They had no attacking players to bring on because Son was away and they didn't sign anyone during the break. They are really going to struggle this season I think. An injury in Kane or even Lucas and they could totally fall apart.

The Rashford red was somewhat unfair. I mean, yes, it was a clear red, but Bardsley kicked out at Rashford after the ball was out of play. They should both have been sent off. VAR is needed.
Nah all Premier League clubs REJECT introduction of VAR though, but i agreed it's because of Bardsley first that make Rashford did that. About Spurs, Son will be back soon because South Korea u23 just won the Asian games and he can avoids military service and join Tottenham like usual now.

VAR is less important in things like the domestic leagues. One goal or missed opportunity isn't the difference between someone going home or not or winning the title. If referees miss things on pitch such as violent conduct the FA can and does issue penalties for them after the fact.

I don't know how this strategy of not buying any players in the transfer window is going to play out (Poch is the guy who likes to use youngsters from the club's academy), but in the long run, I feel like they're going to regret not incorporating new players (they'll have the January transfer window, but they'll have to pay a lot for new players).

I don't think it was a strategy. They just didn't manage to buy anyone. No point spending money on players just for the sake of it. They've already got a very strong team/squad. Manchester Untied spent a lot and look where that has got them so far.
Why don't you use Manchester City as an example of spending money and actually accomplishing something? If we're gonna keep using the same Man Utd narrative then of course any team that didn't spend that much is gonna look like they made a great investment.

And they (Spurs) don't have that strong squad everyone keeps saying, N'Koudou, Sissoko, Llorente, or Harry Winks, aren't exactly great subs, you know those subs who you expect can save you in a CL game when you're 1-2 down in the 85' min...if you want to be a competitive side but those players are your backup plan, well, results like last weekend vs Watford tend to happen.

Hell, even Sol Campbell (what a centre-back he was during his prime!) is surprised Spurs didn't make a single signing [1].

1. https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1012520/Tottenham-news-Sol-Campbel-summer-transfer-window

It depends on who you buy. Man City may have got most or all of the players they wanted, but I agree they essentially bought the title but that's not always the case or can happen. They do have a much stronger team and squad than United in my opinion. They have a lot of superstars don't get me wrong, but they still can't compete with City IMO. What were the players that Pochettino actually wanted? If you can't get them then it's pointless buying some subpar players just for the sake of it. Maybe they'll take advantage when the transfer window opens up again but buying the players you want isn't always an option. Remember Spurs still essentially play second or third fiddle to the two Manchester teams and arguably Liverpool now and those are where the big names tend to go even though spurs get better and better and are certainly becoming worthy rivals.
163  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-04] Is the future of Bitcoin in ETF? on: September 04, 2018, 02:11:39 PM
Bitcoin is bigger than these ETFs and bitcoin's future is so much more than just them. Don't get me wrong, I think ETFs are potentially huge for bitcoin and a big step in the right direction for mainstream acceptance and will surely open up doors to more investors and the general public which will obviously all come with financial benefit due to increased demand, but we certainly shouldn't pin all our hopes and dreams on them. What if they never actually get the go ahead? Maybe they will and maybe they won't, but they're certainty not the entire future of bitcoin that's for sure. Regardless, whether they do get accepted or not it is out of our hands so I think we should concern ourselves with spreading adoption in other ways in the meantime and we can only wait and hope they do get accepted at some point.
164  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-03] Tom Lee: Bitcoin to Hit $20k in 2018 Despite Struggle of Emerging M on: September 04, 2018, 02:01:56 PM
@figmentofmyass. I had the same opinion as yours when the market was in full bear power hehe. But if the bulls come back, I reckon Tom Lee's prediction still has a chance like it did last year when bitcoin went from $6000 or $7000 to $20,000 in 1 month.

There is a chance, but it is highly, highly unlikely that we will again see $20k this year. There will be heavy resistance when the price crosses $10k. There are a lot of bagholders, who got in during the rally last year and are just waiting to sell. We will have to take out all that supply before the bull rally begins again.

10K is always going to be a tough nut to crack afain, and then at least stay there. It has huge psychological significance, and a lot of people will cash out at that number which is then obviously hard to sustain. Same but even more so with 20k. A lot of people will expect the same thing to happen last time and it come crashing back down to earth very quickly so they'll cash out whilst they can and we will likely struggle to stay near 20k if it even gets there again at all. A slower growth over a much longer time will be much better for bitcoin in my opinion, so hopefully baby-steps until we get closer and closer to that milestone again.
165  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: September 03, 2018, 08:33:26 PM
They are really going to struggle this season I think.
This might be an understatement. Between having to compete in  the EPL, league cup, FA cup, and the Champions League, you just know they're going to have a difficult trying to sort out the squad when injuries or red cards begin to appear.

They can just field b-teams for the domestic cups. I'm sure the Premier League is their main target but they're certain to give it their best shot in the Champions League as well.

166  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 🔥⚽🏆 Cloudbet's EPL Predictor Competition - Free Entry - Win BTC or BCH! 🏆⚽🔥 on: September 03, 2018, 08:19:50 PM

This week had some upsets, I wasn't expecting to see West Ham and Crystal Palace lose at home. So much for my faith in the London clubs! It was also good to see Newcastle and Leicester giving the likes on Man City and Liverpool a good run for their money, with games much closer than predicted.

Because of the difficult results we only had two weekly winners in round four - Bitcointurk and Klarks_C! Both picked up 7 points each with two correct results, so we'll be in touch soon via PM to deliver your 50 free spins!

Now the moment you have all been waiting for - the points have been tallied, and the final scores are in for the monthly competition grand prize are in...

Congratulations to Sutters Mill and miha8 on taking first and second places in our grand prize table!

They have nabbed a tasty 0.05 BTC and 0.025 BTC respectively, and I'll be in touch very soon via PM to discuss prize delivery.

There's also the question of our last place booby prize winners...  Wink

Congratulations (or commiserations?) to iwutitan and Pettuh4 who managed to only score 8 points each over the four weeks. You've won a stylish wooden spoon with your bitcointalk names engraved!  Grin

Thanks to everyone who has taken part over the past four weeks. We'll be looking to run more sportsbook predictors very soon, so watch this space!

I'm back in the office tomorrow so I'll be sending out the prize PMs then.

Have a great week and enjoy the rest of the EPL season!

Ronnie @ Cloudbet

Awesome. Can't believe I won. Wasn't expecting to at all. Didn't do great on the last round but I got one correct score which probably sealed it for me. Thanks for running the comp!

Yawn, another speculation article based on some random figure someone has pulled out their behind. Pointless even making these predictions. What's going to happen when bitcoin gets nowhere near that figure this year? Nothing.

Hey, we're all optimistic deep down here, but do we really want a 20k Bitcoin again so soon? Give me more time, you damn permabulls.

Does it really matter how fast it comes? I'd rather have 20k this year than have to wait five years for it. Just cash out if it hits 20k and buy back in if it drops. You can't really lose unless it keep going north, but I'm sure it'll come crashing back down at some point.
168  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: September 02, 2018, 04:25:40 PM
Well looks like Manchester Untied are going to turn their forum around now. 15 minutes played in the second half and they're up 2-0. Would be a shocker if Burnley managed to pull it back from that. Watford and currently holding Spurs to 0-0 stalemate and I expected that one to be close, especially with Watford's recent form.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Spurs scored and then Watford got an equalizer.

Man United just missed a penalty as well.
169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin now in use Football Sports on: September 02, 2018, 04:19:56 PM
I wonder how much it actually costs to sponsor a premier league team? I'm sure it's not that much for one of the newly promoted teams to the league or one further down the league table. The community could actually pool together to get bitcoin to be their sponsor. Would be really cool to see the BTC logo on their shirts and would be great for adoption.

Something like this on the front of their shirts would be sweet:

You might be surprised. You can read this article below to find out how much Premier League sponsorship are worth.Obviously to sponsor a team like Manchester United you'll have to pay the big bucks, but like you said, the smaller clubs don't demand that much and all teams get equal playing time (though the bigger games get shown more on TV).

https://www.statista.com/statistics/254513/value-of-jersey-kit-sponsorships-in-the-barclays-premier-league-by-club/

To break it down for you: Huddersfield get 1.5 million for their shirt deal - Ope Sports (never heard of them). American Express sponsor Brighton also for 1.5 million who are a huge business. Man United are the biggest earners with a whopping 47 million from Chevy. Looking at those figures I'm sure someone could organize some sort of crowdfunding or something if people thought it was in the interest of bitcoin. I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before some other big bitcoin-based companies like Coinbase or something start doing such big sponsorships though.

^  Wait is Mourinho really getting the sack if they lose vs Burnley?  And if he went, who would take over?  Zidane?  Lol.  I don't think he's up to some pressure again atm...  He left Real for that exact reason...  Doesn't want to handle the pressure.

Man United will stick with him til the end of the season imho.

No. People are just speculating just for the fun of it. If they do lose to Burnley however it's not going to look good for him. I don't think they will stick with him until the end of the season unless he turns them around pretty quickly. They should beat Burnley but they are usually very strong at home and tough to beat. Zidane would be a worthy successor and I'd like to see him at United if Jose does go, but they're just rumors and mostly speculation and wishful thinking from excited fans. As I said before as well, even if he did manage them I don't think he'll be a miracle worker and do that much better than Jose would have done.

It will be a miracle if Zidane replace Mourinho, if there is other coach that is able to replace Mourinho then that would be zidane. Look at how he changed Real Madrid, he won 3 times champions league trophy and currently not coaching any team. If Manchester United keep playing like this then Mourinho might really lose his job

I wouldn't call it miracle, but it certainly seems like the next best choice for United. I mean, who else would United get? Anyone they do will likely be a step down from even Jose so why get rid of him in the first place if there's nobody clearly better? And what better team than United could be Zidane's next club? I think it's the best (possible) position available for him. It also gives him the chance to prove his greatness and that it wasn't just a fluke at Real. Winning three Champions leagues in a row is an incredible achievement, but it would be an even bigger one if he could achieve the same or similar with the United team.

172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can ETF Decision make a negative impact? on: August 31, 2018, 12:07:13 PM
Once its like other stocks, we know that there is a huge chance that the prices will shoot up like crazy.  However, after that we will see a lot of stability and this will not be very volatile like now therefore huge up and downs wont be possible and profits will not be huge (Including risks)

Is it correct? can someone please explain how does this works? Is there going be a big commission as well on each trade? is there going to be a margin? I actually dont understand this if someone can shed some light in simple terms. Thanks.

So do you want volatility or stability? Sounds just like you want to profit from it in the short term just by trading which you can do with or without this, but I can't believe you're looking for negatives with the ETF decision. The ETF is great for bitcoin both in short and long-term. More adoption is better for everyone and bitcoin as a whole and this is what everyone should want, but it's not the be all and end of bitcoin adoption and there are bigger things than this down the road. Regardless of how short-lived or not the hype is it's something that is out of our control anyway, but it's certainly not a bad thing.
173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is cryptocurrency so difficult to understand on: August 31, 2018, 12:02:52 PM
I engaged with young people and layman people in my communities on the quest of exposing them to cryptocurrency. During the period I discovered that they find It so difficult to understand the concepts, they are so much acquainted with fiat currency and traditional ways of making payment transactions.
I will be impress If I can get a valuable ways and methods in making them understand what cryptocurrency is all about and engage them actively.

Crypto is only as complicated as you make it. Do you need to be able to understand economics or how the monetary system works in order to be able to use it? Absolutely not. Most people I speak to don't even know what 'fiat' money means and certainly don't understand how it is created and what is wrong with the model of that. Explain bitcoin to new users in simple terms. You don't need to needlessly confuse them with tech speak and how things work under the hood. Just explain the basics of how it works and the benefits of using it or fiat money (ie the money in their pockets).
174  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: August 31, 2018, 11:52:36 AM
United have a huge budget and can make a comeback since money can bring trophy's but United must be patient on Jose and give him the tools and the policy of changing coaches will not work, especially as the alternative Zidane is unconvincing in my eyes he had an already good team and he didn't had to make big decisions also best thing for him he had extreme luck. for now Mourinho is still with United next game with burnley will be the key for his survival. if he failed to win then it's time for the change zidane is not the only name mentioned to be close to manage United Belgium national team manager Roberto martinez is also recently name popped out.

They can't keep throwing money at players and down the drain if they don't win anything. They don't have an unlimited budget either and there's financial fair play rules that come into effect that prohibit them going crazy. I suspect they've already spent most if not all of what they were going to (or are allowed to) unless they unload some other players. I don't think them spending more money is the issue though. If they can't work with the squad and manager they've got now then nothing will work.
175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin a Digital Gold?? on: August 31, 2018, 11:48:18 AM

The Bitcoin whitepaper was made almost 10 years ago. The price of a Bitcoins was not expected to rise to the thousand for just one coin back then.

How do you know what value satoshi expected bitcoins to be worth? He did once say something along the lines of he envisions either huge adoption with lots of people using it or none at all in the future. If the former is true then I'm sure he would have expected that bitcoin would be worth a hefty value in fiat terms, but I guess satoshi's speculation is something we'll likely never know unless he ever returns (or he did actually say somewhere how much he would expect bitcoin to be worth).
176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people need to use Bitcoin for Money laundering? on: August 29, 2018, 08:00:12 PM
People use bitcoin to launder money because there is no way of tracing the money to them offline.
This is due to the anonymous structure of the blockchain technology.
People now leverage off this weakness to perpetrate criminal activities.

Of course there are ways of tracing people, especially if you're not careful. Bitcoin isn't entirely untraceable, especially if you don't know what you're doing fully. Remember, bitcoin is an entire public ledger of every transaction that has ever happened and many people have been caught using it for dodgy things. I remember reading a story a while back about one of the owners of a big pirate torrenting site was identified by the donation address he used because he sent the coins straight to his own personal coinbase account in his own name and that was one of the big pieces of evidence used against him at trial.

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/anthony-martial-set-to-sign-five-year-deal-in-belief-he-will-outlast-jose-mourinho-at-manchester-united-vfftl9hjh

"United have offered a new five-year deal to Martial and are hopeful that the Frenchman will sign it even though Mourinho does not want the forward at the club."

Now this I don't understand. Jose wants him out, but the board offer him a new contract. If you are just going to undermine everything he tries to do, why even keep him as a manager?

Maybe they do plan to get rid of Jose? Martial isn't that great in my opinion. Lukaku and Sanchez are far better. United will probably win against Burnley this weekend and then return to form and then the talk of Jose leaving will probably be forgotten. I'd only like to see him go if Zidane replaces him personally. Anyone else would be lackluster.

That news came from Daily Mail.Good title to click.Next coach will be Zidane
Daily Mail  is not best source of information

That's what I said. Pay no mind on tabloid speculation. They'll print whatever sounds juicy to sell some papers.
178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people need to use Bitcoin for Money laundering? on: August 29, 2018, 06:46:12 PM
Why are we seeing such double standards, when Bitcoin is involved?

There's always double standards when it comes to the law and especially when those 'white collar' criminals tend to get little or lesser punishments or can even buy their way out of jail, but I think these cases are a little different for a couple of reasons and I don't think Ross was treated harsher just because he was using bitcoin. Ross created a site to directly facilitate the sale of drugs, not to mention he was also charged with money laundering I believe. Selling drugs is always going to get you more jail time than money laundering anyway, but I think they gave him a very overly harsh sentence just to make an example out of him. He was also charged as a drug kingpin as well I think which comes with a more severe sentance. It will be interesting to see how much time El Chapo gets when his trial gets underway shortly. If it's less than Ross' then that really will be a huge double standard. He will probably also get life though.
179  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: August 29, 2018, 05:47:53 PM
I guess the manager is doomed when the players and staff start talking about him getting the boot as soon as the next match: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2793177-manchester-united-players-reportedly-think-jose-mourinho-is-1-loss-from-the-sack

Source is needed. I wouldn't listen to unreliable tabloid speculation. They just write this stuff to get hits and traffic:

Quote
According to Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail, the consensus at Carrington is that defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor in the Premier League on Sunday would potentially be enough for the club's hierarchy to act.

"There is the same sense of inevitability that surrounded Louis van Gaal’s final days in 2016 before he was replaced by Mourinho, with players now talking about the possibility of Zinedine Zidane becoming manager," Wheeler said.

A source quoted by Wheeler added, "they are saying he will be gone soon."

His "source" could be his own imagination for all we know. Daily Mail is also a shitrag of a newspaper

Allegedly the board still has faith in Mourinho while his players and staff think he will get sacked after 1 more loss and his successor will be Zidane.

I'd like to see Zidane there if Jose does get sacked, but like I said a couple of pages ago I'd be surprised if he wins anything and he'll likely just end up in the same situation as Gaal and Jose a couple years into his tenure. They shouyld stick it out with Jose for the time being in my opinion.
