1601  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers Stole $50 Million in Cryptocurrency Using 'Poison' Google Ads on: February 17, 2018, 07:08:24 AM
Google Adds should include a reputation score of some sort. This way the well known companies with legit adds could be identified by us users easily, while scrutinizing the rest.
Also Google should work on shutting down adds that link to scams (i.e. no reputation + x amount of negatives -> shutdown), similarly to how antiviruses do.

Google already has very strict mechanisms to detect such ads. As an internet marketer, I have suffered a lot because of their strict policies. They completely ban your Adwords account if they notice any suspicious activity like promoting scams or illegal offers. Sometimes people are able to find loopholes and these are exploited till Google notices and patches them.
1602  Other / Off-topic / Re: How you keep safe BITCOIN? on: February 17, 2018, 07:05:38 AM
suggest some easy ways?

Here is what I do. I buy bitcoins in different exchanges. This way I get the safety that even if one exchange is hacked or runs away with investors money, all my investments do not disappear. I also use only credible exchanges (even if they have higher fees).
1603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people post in the local section with google translator? on: February 17, 2018, 07:03:49 AM
I stumbled over a few accounts, that post in local forums (German, Spanish, Korean etc), but it is obvious that they don't speak the language and that they used google translator, why do people do that?
What do they stand to gain?

They get following:

1) They increase the activity. These are farmed accounts who d not want to spend time typing a original response.

2) They copy useful information from another language and post in local section to get recognition and merits.
1604  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you see bitcoins yourself? on: February 17, 2018, 07:00:14 AM
Now obviously, the tittle says it all. I am just curious on how you guys see bitcoins or the whole thought of cryptos as a whole? Because clearly, all of us have different minds which is why most of the time we have different point of views about different things. Although some may have same opinions or believes on the same thing but it still does not cover everyone. Because some sees bitcoins and other cryptos as a key to ending poverty(which is something I disagree with but totally respect), while some sees it as an asset, others see it as currency, and so much more. I would really love to know how you guys see bitcoins because I think this can be a key to having a glance on what the future of the crypto world will be someday(although this is not for sure, I think it is worth a shot). So please my fellow crypto lovers, share your thoughts Smiley

I use it as an investment option currently. However, I want it to be recognized as the most widely used payment medium. This will result in it being adopted by masses and we will see it surviving for longer.
1605  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I think we can. on: February 17, 2018, 06:57:43 AM
Do we really think that the btc network is going to be able to handle the future transactions in bulk and speed even with lightning network ?

I heard lighting network will solve the problem but it will take a lot of time to get implemented. Only thing I do not like about bitcoin transactions currently is that the transfer is not instant like PayPal. Sometimes, I do instant deals where I have to check the product and pay immediately. Bitcoin is not suitable for this currently.
1606  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin Hit $20K in few weeks time? on: February 17, 2018, 06:53:23 AM
Do we expect Bitcoin to have a big comeback after its downfall on January and early Feb?
Coz many expected it Will hit $20K when New Year was coming last year, but as we witnessed, it disappointed many hodlers and unestors with its unfaithful fall, but now we see this bouncing back, and hopefully it Will continue to do so.

$20000 will not be possible in few weeks. I see it happening in June or July this year if everything goes good. Personally, I am holding my bitcoin investments for 2-3 years.
1607  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the current status of Bitcoins? Is it still safe to invest in it? on: February 17, 2018, 06:52:14 AM
Do you think we should invest for Bitcoins in this time? Currently, I'm confusing.

If you are confused do not invest based on suggestions of other members. I suggest you to read about the latest news and then decide regarding investment. It will ensure that you will not panic even if there are major drops in price levels after buying.
1608  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We have been called many things, but we are still going strong. on: February 17, 2018, 06:50:55 AM
Over the years, our enemies has used all sorts of labels to categorize Bitcoin users. We were labelled as Drug addicts and Drug lords <Silkroad> or a bunch of Paedophiles exchanging Bitcoin in Dark markets for child porn and Money launderers and tax evaders, but it turned out that we are no different than any other person using any other payment network.

All forms of payments are abused by scammers, frauds and criminals. I know a lot of people using stealth Paypal accounts for selling illegal items. It does not mean that PayPla is evil. Same apples to bitcoin, majority is using it for legal transactions.
1609  Other / Meta / Re: Secure your account before you regret. on: February 17, 2018, 06:45:11 AM
Many people are afraid due to the spread of hacking into many accounts and some of them consider that the security of those accounts are very weak ( especially after their accounts are hacked) and  they bear all the burdens on the forum.

In my opinion, the problem is not the weakness of security, but in fact, it is your misbehaviors  that lead to your accounts ( users) being hacked.

When your account is well secured , the hacker cannot  get your password. So it's very essential to protect your account through two simple steps  :
1- Choosing a powerful password.
2- Secure your Email ( Strong password, Step verification ( by a  phone number) ,Encrypt it through a special key).

Regarding the strong password here are my suggestion:

1) Use combination of letters, numbers and special characters . There are hackers who brute force common passwords easily with the help of software like burp suite.

2) Keep changing the password at regular intervals.

1610  Other / Meta / Re: It is easier to find useful information now on: February 17, 2018, 06:43:10 AM
Thanks to the new merit system, i can now strain the kind of information i want to read as a new member of this community. It looks like people are "scared" to post now so it is quite easy to find good posts around and read them. I noticed that my eyes are caught by posts with merits more than those without merits( i don't underestimate posts without merits though. some of them are helpful to me). I hope i am able to learn quickly and earn merits too. I have all the time in the world to be patient.
Can you navigate the forum easily as well as compared to a couple of weeks/months back?

You are correct about the fact that a post with merits catches attention. I try to read other posts as well as sometimes you find hidden gems unmerited. I do not think the navigation has changed for me in any way after the merit system. If the posts were sorted based on number of merits received, it would have been different.
1611  Other / Meta / Re: Where are the merit sources? on: February 17, 2018, 06:41:15 AM
There is one thing that is missing from your aspect of thinking. Merit sources is only a human, they have their own life, they have other works, etc, they can not be here 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. They are not bot who can gives all their time and energy to this forum 24/7. So they can not go all over the posts to search for quality post, that is why some of them make a thread like QuestionAuthority did. And i guess it is not begging if we help them pointing out our best post, its just make their work easier.
That is why theymos himself stated that he needs an established member which he can trust to be a source from a specific board, because he knows that people have their favorite board/section.

1) Merit sources might be from different countries. And thus they will be active in all time zones. I have got merits on my posts made at different time intervals.

2) Theymos is adding more merit sources as per the need.
1612  Other / Meta / Re: why focus on merits? on: February 17, 2018, 06:39:29 AM
Also, many of the current signature campaigns only offer positions to members+ so accounts are going to need at least 10 merits to level up. Maybe this will be good news for the higher level accounts who can enter signature campaigns with possibly higher rewards. Either way, I guess I'll have to try my luck with the bounty campaigns until then.  Roll Eyes

You are right about this. Focus is on merits only because they are now essential to rank up. If someone has joined here for signature campaigns, he will try to get these 10 merit points asap. However, in my opinion now one has to be patient. It will take more than 3-4 months on average for new members to become a member.
1613  Other / Meta / Re: Not merit, demerit is the way to go! on: February 17, 2018, 06:36:38 AM
Hey Guys,

The new merit system is not working properly and I think this can be quite dangerous for the quality of this forum.

Why? Simply because they are quite a lot very brilliant posts in this forum (especially in the local forums) which are not merited at all (not even 1 point). If you then see that they are a lot of free merit / scam threads this really dumps your motivation in creating serious content in this forum - cause its simply unfair.

Now consider there is a newbie who affords lot of time in creating some nice content in order to rank up, not merited at all. What do you think the motivation of this guy is going? Do you think he is gonna try this again?

I agree with you to some extent. As per the current situation,  a member has to be active and smart as well to increase chances of getting merits. For instance, there was a thread where a senior member was offering merits for members submitting infographic. If a new member is able to do that, he has more chances as there is less competition there.
1614  Other / Meta / Re: Merit giveaway for Jr Members and newbies on: February 17, 2018, 06:33:16 AM
Anyway perhaps this post can at least earn something: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2895054.msg30312040#msg30312040

Gave you one.

Dear Krishnaverma,

Thanks for this very kind gesture - I was due to be member yesterday, but unfortunately I wasn't aware of the new merit system until that point! I have tried using my (quite limited) knowledge to write tutorials that will help the community - I even used pictures... but so far nobody is really reading them. I wonder if some might be interesting to you?

You are writing awesome posts and got merits from other members. I gave one to you as well.

Rest of the applicants need to improve. I will give 2-3 more in this giveaway and close this.
1615  Other / Meta / Re: How Do You Feel About This New System?? on: February 09, 2018, 10:45:56 AM
I am not a spammer or do not create posts just for the sake of it. I just wanted to be able to link my signature to a post on this forum advertising my service, which I cannot do because of the rank I currently have.

What do you think? Is this merit system fair for my case?

See if you want to get a privilege associated with higher rank (signature in this case), you need to work for it. I checked your posts and some of them are really good. You will easily become a member if you keep making such posts.
1616  Other / Meta / Re: [List] Suspected users that are abusing merit 3.0 on: February 09, 2018, 10:40:56 AM
Is there any place where I can find and objective definition of what constitutes an abuse of the system?

a) Meriting "too much"?
b) Mutually sending merit?
c) Sending merit to accounts that seem to be linked by exchange of tokens?
d) Meriting to ANN threads?
e) Which other cases?

Who is going to decide if the abuse is considered as such? That is, is there a "jury" and an "appeals process"?

Please point me to any link or resource if there is any.

Why are posting this same thing here again. You already created a thread with same content here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2909419.0

Is there any place where I can find and objective definition of what constitutes an abuse of the system?

a) Meriting "too much"?
b) Mutually sending merit among users or groups of users?
c) Sending merit to accounts that seem to be linked by exchange of tokens?
d) Meriting to ANN threads?
e) Which other cases?

Who is going to decide if the abuse is considered as such? That is, is there a "jury" and an "appeals process"?

Please point me to any link or resource if there is any. I do know that merit should be sent to post that are "of quality", but I am asking for something specific.

You  should use common sense for finding the abuse. I made a thread regarding this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2827385.msg28971105#msg28971105. You can use the tips listed there and help the forum by exposing the abusers.
1618  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 09, 2018, 10:31:27 AM
Nonsense.   Five years ago there were no signature campaigns, and bitcoin was worth a few dollars.  This forum thrived back then.

There were not that many members. It is true that a lot of members joined because of the monetary benefits involved and they will leave. I think admin is not concerned about those users as they do not add much value here. Judging a forum by number of members is not appropriate in my opinion as well.
1619  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 09, 2018, 10:28:51 AM
Radical solution lol, most users would be done using this forum.
But people would be more honest.

It may sound harsh to you but there are good chances of that happening. Here is what admin said about this recently

It's too early to get a clear picture, but my thoughts so far:

First, most people complaining about merit are constantly posting garbage, and should not rank-up. The forum is not a welfare system; you don't run through a few hoops and then get paid for doing something that nobody actually wants. I like that good forum members can make money, especially when said forum members are in poorer countries and this is a major opportunity for them. I very much do not want to destroy the sig-ad/airdrop/bounty "industry". But I am not going to tolerate people posting garbage upon garbage. If the merit system completely fails and I can't think of anything else to replace it, then my next step will probably be to completely remove all ways for forum users to make money from posting (eg. removing signatures entirely).

1620  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever stopped or removed from casino on: February 09, 2018, 10:22:01 AM
Even I also faced this issue when I visited 1st time to abroad. as per the casino rules for foreigners, there is no fee it was free entry but we need to show our passport. I showed my other national ID but they are not allowed me inside. yup They were very strict in the rules.

That was something new to me. I was planning to visit some countries just to enjoy the popular gambling related activities there. Now, I will make proper research about the legal documents required for entering the casino of those countries.
