Are you saying you snipped the vcc power going from the powered hub so you don't blow the fuse?
1622  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme 7970, Arctic Silver, and mx-4 thermal compound on: October 21, 2012, 04:11:30 AM
The ebay heatsink post is $11 + $5 shipping ($16).

Your cooler + thermal paste is $60.

Altogether that is $76.

If I were to buy this new from mwave, it would be $70 + $9.29 shipping so say $80 http://www.mwave.com/mwave/SKUSearch.asp?px=FO&scriteria=AA82255

I don't really need this item you're selling, but I'll offer you (for the whole thing) $35 shipped.

I've updated with a guy selling the same heatsinks for 12.19 with free ship. He also includes the stock thermal paste. I am also selling sans thermal paste for $50. So you are talking $62.19 vs $80. Plus, mwave doesn't accept bitcoins Grin
1623  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Best 7970 card for cooling/quiet on: October 21, 2012, 02:38:39 AM
I have this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125439

I've always preferred reference coolers, as the main heatsink directly cools the VRMs, but I went with this one. I ended up putting little aluminum RAM heatsinks on the back of the VRMs, cuz they were getting too hot. That's the only issue I've had, and once I got past that, it's the best card I've ever owned!

I can overclock it to 1200MHz, even with my low ASIC quality. I normally run it at 1050MHz @ 1050mV, tho.

You can't hear the fan < 50%. I normally run it at 60-70%, and it keeps my core between 55-60C, and my VRMs around 65-76C, depending on ambient.
I have this card as well. I run the fan at 90% and it is much less audible than the reference cooler. The only thing I don't like about the card is that you can't undervolt.
I was able to enable undervolting thru Win7 and MSI AB.

Oh yeh? I thought you were having the same problem as me. What did you have to do?

Got it all worked out, working fine now.

This was more of a challenge than xbmc 4

What did you figure out? Want to make sure I'm ready when mine comes in.
1625  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: [Poll] - Will ASICs Hit Before Block Reward Halving / Drop? on: October 21, 2012, 02:03:24 AM
I really hope so but the bitcoin magazine mention of end of November, beginning of December timeline is cutting it very close.

I'm interested, but I can't make an offer without knowing how much the missing heatsinks would cost.  Which one are they in this picture and how many?

http://www.arctic.ac/p/images/articles/0533bba058cbb732a8c706faf8878436_0.png

Also, I presume I can use my own Arctic Silver-5 correct? Is half of one tube enough for all the applications?

I would recommend a ceramic based grease for the memory and other components. If you are applying to a 7970, some of the surfaces are extremely small and you may risk shorting some of the leads surrounding them(like I did...) Silver is fine for the GPU.

Here's what is left in the kit:

6 different heatsink types in your image. I'll number them 1-6 going left to right top to bottom.

Missing-
2 of number 2
4 of number 3
1 of number 4
11 of number 5
3 of number 6

Here's a guy selling pretty much all of the heatsinks in the kit on ebay for $12.19
linky

Here's a pic of the missing heatsinks applied to the 7970 PCB I sold:

1627  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: [Poll] What have you doing with the coins you mined? on: October 20, 2012, 02:43:48 PM
Hold + Sell

I started mining a year ago as a hobby and was under the "hold" category.  I spent $200 on 2x5770 to get me started.  They have just been running in the background for the past year.  First I mined in the ars pool until the pool died because the owner had no time to maintain it.  Then I switched to solo mining mostly because I had no time to keep up with all the different pool payment schemes.  And earlier today, I checked and realized my solo mining had found 2 blocks in the past 10 months!

So I looked up ASIC mining hardware and put in a preorder for one of the devices.  So those 2 lucky blocks were sold for more mining hardware, and the remaining from the pool is still being held.

That's awesome. I have a 6450 in my media center pc that pulls around 35 mh/s. I've thought about solo mining with it on the off chance I might get really lucky and find a block.

I try to keep my stockpile around 100 BTC. I spend and sell the rest.

1630  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / [Poll] When will block reward half? on: October 20, 2012, 02:34:13 PM
With an average of 138 blocks a day we are looking at sometime around December 1st. When do you think it will happen?
1631  Economy / Computer hardware / [SOLD] Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme 7970, and thermal compound on: October 20, 2012, 03:49:54 AM
Selling a barely used Accellero Xtreme 7970 and 3 tubes of thermal compound that have been kept in the fridge.
Take it all for

Some of the memory heatsinks are missing from the 7970 cooler as they were firmly attached to a 7970 PCB I sold a while back, so you may need to purchase some new ones.

I put my sd card in my wallet so it is with me at all times! just have to a find a hdmi

My New 512 does not suffer from lan bug

How long have you had your 512? Are you mining with it? I'm still hopeful I'll still be able to use mine with my singles.

It now appears nefario has double paid some users and is asking for them to return half their payment. I hope there is enough to go around.
1634  Economy / Economics / Re: When I hear "people should spend all of their money" instead of saving... on: October 18, 2012, 10:56:40 PM
It has its merits. If the government were to collapse, you may be hard pressed to convince someone a hundred dollar bill is worth a weeks worth of food. On the other hand, the guy who spent all of his money( assuming he didn't spend it all on hookers and blow) may have some tangible goods to trade.

1637  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Underclocking Memory Speeds Correctly on 7xxx Series Cards With Afterburner on: October 18, 2012, 01:01:51 AM
If you close afterburner after setting the lowest mem clock, then reopen, you can slide the memory down further. I open and close Afterburner twice to get my 7970 memclocks down to 185.

This would make a great host for BFL single farm. $400 with free shipping to continental US.

I'll do 1.1 if it's still available

RS components shipped my 512mb today, maybe they've fixed some of the USB issues with this revision. If not I guess I'll have another toy to play with.
