1621  Other / Off-topic / Re: How Do You Think About UFO Catcher? on: August 19, 2022, 12:39:47 AM
I've played it and I saw people lose a lot of money on these because you can be 100% on point and the toy would still slip from the claw. I saw things slip out when it was already up.
Some machines are rigged so that they go up faster and more violently to shake the claw a bit more and drop everything that isn't holding strong.
There are also machines where you can get a phone or other gadgets like watches.

They used to be very popular at seaside resorts, but now I rarely see them.
1622  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: taking out a loan for a sports bet (UPDATE) + fixed match on: August 19, 2022, 12:28:42 AM
I’m curious how you knew that the match would turn out a certain way first of all? Second off I’m curious if you felt any level of guilt apparently already knowing exactly how the event was going to turn out? I’m not myself I could actually bet on a fixed matched like this.

Either he had a tip from someone and believed it to be true, even though such tips are usually made up, because the tipster has nothing to lose and all to win, or he's lying to us and there was no fixed match in the first place.

I would bet on it if I knew the info comes from a real insider, but such tips are extremely rare and reserved for people who bet big money, gangsters and politicians. You can't get your hands on a real tip, unless it's like the lowest league of pro football or something. These guys fix matches on a daily basis.

1623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you own 1 Bitcoin? (2022 edition) on: August 19, 2022, 12:09:24 AM
I do. I'm not afraid to say that I actually own a lot more than that.

Most of my coins were acquired years ago and last time I was accumulating was in 2019. 2020 was for me a time of waiting, where I did not do anything with my coins and 2021 was the year of spending. Since 2022 I'm again in accumulation mode Cheesy

until now i only have 0.002btc and even then i am already sick of holding it because the need is increasing and i need money just need the right time i will release my btc which i collected from the previous year

You can earn this much in just 1 week of a forum signature campaign or by translating something in the services section. How can you be sick of holding so very little? Just forget about it for a while. $50 won't change your life in any way, but owning bitcoin, regardless of how much you have, is better than not having any.
1624  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will BTC make a new high in 2022? If not then what will be peak point? on: August 18, 2022, 09:54:40 PM
I think, although in the last few weeks bitcoin has started to rise in price where the price bitcoin is trading again in the $24k-$23k area, it seems difficult for bitcoin to reach new ATH this year because the crypto market has not fully shown a better performance. Therefore, if there is no further major correction, it is possible that the bitcoin price will only reach above $40k this year.

I don't think it will even go above 40k this year. The macroeconomics is too bad. You can see how bitcoin reacts to every single move of stock indexes. It's not about if Bitcoin is bad or good, if it has strong fundamentals, or if it has the support of holders and innovators. It's being crushed by the FED that's pumping the dollar and the war in Ukraine that's pulling the world into a crisis situation.
1625  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Does the planet really need saving? on: August 18, 2022, 09:28:25 PM
It doesn't need saving, it just needs us to make a step back and stop polluting it. We only have one Earth.

You can see how easy it is to pull nature out of balance and how damaging it can be. There's a recent problem on a river between Germany and Poland where tons of fish were found dead because apparently the water became too salty.

I feel like we're focusing on the carbon footprint and melting ice caps but the real disaster will hit us where no one expects it.
1626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin’s longest-serving Lead Maintainer calls it quits, names no successor on: August 17, 2022, 10:05:23 PM
though lessons should be learned to not have bitcoin as a central point, which even core an wlad know they are central points.
we need to decentralise more so there is no reliance on one github/maintainer. especially need to avoid those in a near central point to not be funded majority by one central funder to ensure that bitcoin cannot be controlled

I agree we should keep it decentralized as much as possible, although I doubt submitting code to github for all to see is a step towards centralization.

Bitcoin is meant to outlive Satoshi, Van der Laan, and everyone who writes code for it today. Bitcoin is a community, old people leave, new people come. So this is actually very good for Bitcoin, it will demonstrate that its development has no critical centralization, unlike Ethereum, where Vitalik is the owner of the code and can do whatever he wants.

Exactly! People come and go, but ideas and tools continue to help future generations. We can't expect someone who's been coding since the 80s to keep doing it 40 years later. People need a break, need to focus on their family and retirement. It was meant to happen sooner or later. I think there were some articles about him quitting months ago, so it's not a sudden change of heart.
1627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Be a Bitcoin believer on: August 17, 2022, 08:48:53 PM
I agree with you about altcoins. My story is similar to your father's because at first, when I joined the forum, I also thought that bitcoin is great but too expensive. I was looking into various ways to make money online like cloud mining, investing in altcoins, claiming airdrops. All that has proven to be a waste of time.

When you try too hard you lose money or get scammed. You claim airdrops and hold them thinking the altcoins will gain value but most of them lose and after years of holding you have even less than you had when you claimed them. I even held some coins that were praised and were supposed to have potential like Cardano that is now worth about 20% of its ATH price... If any of you still think altcoins are a better investment than bitcoin, you can't count.
1628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt Gox Upcoming release of funds to its creditors vs Btc Price on: August 17, 2022, 08:32:49 PM
I feel like all this fear mongering in the bear market is a well planed tactic to scare people and make them dump into the hands of these big trust funds. Think about it for a second. You don't see a lot of these news in the bull market, but when the price falls by at least 50% from the top they come at you with full force. Gox coins were to be released since 2020. They were talking about it for 2 years and there was always some small hurdle and the release was delayed for a few months. Knowing it, people drove the price to almost $70k. Back then there was no fear of Gox, but now  suddenly there is?

You want to know why? They prey on your fear. You're stuck watching the charts and they keep telling you it's going to get worse to wear you down. All this is done right after the announcement that Blackrock is going to buy.

Gox is not going to dump anything because the restitution is going to take months. People are not going to dump anything because they see how high inflation is and how low BTC got. Even if Bitcoin loses 10% this year it's still going to perform better than most of the EU. Greece, Spain and Belgium are already over 10% and Ireland is gaining at 9.6%.
1629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin’s longest-serving Lead Maintainer calls it quits, names no successor on: August 17, 2022, 03:32:52 PM
He doesn't have to name a successor. It's not like Satoshi chose him to work on Bitcoin. He started it on his own in 2012, long after Satoshi's disappearance
Imagine that bitcoin managed to grow in 2011 and 2012 and Satoshi left in 2010. In those 2 years van der Laan was completely out of the picture.

OP is making it sound like we just bought a car and now the only authorized garage is losing its lead mechanic. It's not how it works! Bitcoin can continue even when all of those core devs quit.
1630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino can play a role in changing fortune? on: August 16, 2022, 09:02:30 PM
Sometimes, when you feel like everything is falling on your head, you consider putting it all on the line at one go, into a single bet. People do it to end the suffering and be done with waiting. Either they win and get back on their feet or they see it all going to 0 and move on. That's what he did by going to a casino and it worked, but I don't recommend it. 2 out of 3 times it won't work and then you're really in deep shit. I'd rather sell the business and start over than put it all on the line in a casino.
1631  Economy / Economics / Re: High prices not a problem if you got MONEY on: August 16, 2022, 08:24:50 PM
If you have money, right? So let's say you have a lot of fiat and we go into a hyperinflation crisis, you can expect something like in Venezuela, where you can spend a million bolivars which is a few notes and you won't even spend 2 USD. You have a wallet so full that you won't be able to close it, but all you'll be able to buy with that full wallet is a meal restaurant and some groceries.

Having money is not going to save you in a crisis. You'll be in a better situation than people with no money, but you'll be quickly approach a moment when you have money and can't buy anything.
1632  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the price of BTC ever hit $40k again? on: August 16, 2022, 08:04:42 PM
I'm almost 100% sure it will not only reach $40k but $60k again. The only question is when.

Here's how I see it. Bitcoin is a growing market that isn't promoted by anyone. It relies on its current user base to advertise it and spread the word. It's not a company that buys time on TV. It's not an MLM where you're getting paid by getting a few people to invest. The longer it's around the more people hear about it and start to use it. Knowing that and limited supply, we simply have to slowly go up in price, especially that fiat money like USD faces growing inflation. $10 from 2020 when bitcoin was worth 20k is not the same $10. It's purchasing power is 10% lower, so if the inflation continues, in 10 years your 1BTC will be worth around 40k, even if the demand doesn't grow and it will grow because we have halvings which are another important factor that decides the price.
1633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expect The Bear Season. on: August 16, 2022, 12:22:55 PM
Here is the official document so that everyone can see,

https://www.mtgox.com/img/pdf/20220706_announcement_en.pdf

So it's either the recipient has choice of lump sum repayment, cash, bitcoin and or bitcoin cash.

Chances are there will be will availing of the lump sump here, and maybe few on crypto as they have suffered enough of waiting for years. And with that said, cash will be the better options, unless they still want to go to and hold their bitcoin and or bitcoin cash in this bear market.

And there is also an assignment, meaning not all claimants will get everything at the same time (cash or crypto). Going to be a slow process for August up to the end of the year or when all payments have been made.

And thanks to this kind of FUD, members are now well aware as to what will go down to this Mt. Gox repayment program if it has an effect on the market to put it below the last lowest low of $17,500.

We don't know how many of these people will choose which option, but everyone assumes the worst, which is a 2 billion USD dump.
This will not happen for numerous reasons like

Some people choosing crypto, even if they're planning to sell later. I'd choose this option because I wouldn't want to rely on the exchange rate of their choice. I'd rather do it myself knowing exactly how much I'll get after the sale. With the volatility we're experiencing right now, waiting a week can mean you'll get 2k USD more for your bitcoin or 2k less, which for me would be a big deal. Usually I don't make 2k in a month.

If the distribution begins next month it will continue at least until the end of the year. This illiquid market can't handle a 2 billion dump in a day, but it can do it if the sale takes place over a period of 3 months.
1634  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you stop gamble if your girl friend insists ? on: August 12, 2022, 09:27:06 PM
What I have noticed about girls is that they do not want anything that waste money or take from someone than give. That is the reason you will see them not gambling at all, only few of them are gambling if compared with guys.

They don't want you to waste money on gambling, but if she wants to go to a beauty salon or wants you to buy here jewelry that's not a wast. Flowers are not a waste, picking her up in your car and driving her home is not a waste, everything you do to satisfy her needs is good, but when you have your needs to satisfy that's a different story, even if you're not using her money but your own.

Ultimately it comes down to whether you're going to really stop or lie to her. Most gamblers would choose to lie to satisfy a woman, that's the truth.
1635  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto Veterans and Legendaries: Need Advice on my Bitcoin Strategy on: August 12, 2022, 09:14:07 PM
I will start with buying 3 BTC for a start. Starting from today. I will gradually put in around $200k into BTC.

Today is August 12th.

I MISSED THE BOTTOM  Angry

I should have bought it at $17.5K. It would have been good enough for me and I still did not buy waiting for $10k.
At the top I sold at good enough. I should have bought back in at good enough. Mistake.

Now BTC is at $24k and I have 0 BTC. Haven't bought in yet!

Is this thread intended as a joke? If not, you're doing your best for it to be the example of a typical bitcoin investor who sees bitcoin at 60k and says he'll buy it when it falls. When it starts falling it's never a good time. The price is never low enough.

-50% - nope
-60% - nope
-70% - I'll wait some more...
Fear and greed at all time low? Why would I buy now?

A while later...

-those fools are buying. It's obviously a fake rally. A dead cat bounce.
-damn did I miss the bottom? It's recovering so maybe there will be another dip.
-no dip still, we went back to -60% from ATH, it will correct again so I won't buy yet
-it went to 50% ATH - a fake rally.
-what? It reached the old ATH once again, now I won't buy it's too expensive!
-I'll wait for another dip and then I'll buy for sure! It's fine though, I'll have more fiat ready.

New ath 100k - when it goes down 60% I'll start buying. Wait, that's going to be $40k and I had a chance to buy at 17... I'm so unlucky! Stupid bitcoin!
1636  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Japanese Animation Slot Machines on: August 12, 2022, 08:51:22 PM
I like the idea of a touchscreen implemented into the game. I think this is the evolution of gambling since physical slot machines with a turning drum require more maintenance and cannot be rethemed that easily. With electronic machines you can put any theme you like within minutes and when one show becomes unpopular use another that's on top at the moment.

As for me liking the machine, I'm not feeling this theme though. I know some people are and this is a big culture in Japan. I like animated movies, but not the ones that use cute little girls that moan all the time to attract boys.
1637  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 5 truths about bitcoin, in my opinion? on: August 12, 2022, 08:31:42 PM
I would guess that the cycles are growing smaller as well. Like when it moved from just under a dollar to over 30 dollars that was x30+ and more, which means when it moved from 100 bucks or so to 1400 dollars in 2014 that was also a bit 14x give or take, and when it moved from 700 dollars to 20k that was about a good chunk I will have to agree with that, but then we moved from 10k to 60k which was just 6x, 7x if you count 68k as 70k.

As we can see, people who are investing now, will still make a good money, better than any stock they can pick or gold, but it wouldn't be as good as the early birds who made x100 and then some on their bitcoin if they are still holding it.

That's completely normal as volatility always decreases when an asset matures. More users means more stable environment, less coins in the hands of a single individual and so on.

Cycles getting smaller is maybe not the best description. They are getting less volatile but longer. If you count how many days it took for bitcoin to bottom after the 2013 peak and do the same with 2018, you'll see that it took more time and will possibly again take more this time, taking us into 2023. You never know a pattern is valid until it confirms.
1638  Economy / Speculation / Re: do u think the BTC bottom is in...? on: August 12, 2022, 07:59:49 PM
Personally I'm about 80% confident the bottom is in, based on comparisons to 2015 and 2019 of when a bottom is formed. I doubt I'll feel more than 80% confident until a significant macro higher low is formed, maybe sometime end of the year or next year, or otherwise a new ATH is made. Still waiting for network growth to return in order for price to move higher though, even though it's irrelevant to the bottom being in.

I agree with you. There's a small chance, maybe that 20% you're talking about, that we hit 6k of 2018 by being at 23k and a crash to 3k which would be something like 12k-15k range. To be honest this ranges are pretty similar if we look at what the price is doing, but also very different because we did not go to 4k then back to 6k and again to 3k, like this year when we hit a low and returned back to the 200 week average.

To be honest this year looks very unnatural on the charts like the selling pressure is too high, the highest ever in history actually. You can see that it's a manipulated crash made by all those dumps of Tera and Tesla et al.
1639  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sources of gambling news on: August 12, 2022, 07:25:54 PM
It makes no sense to ask for gambling news sites because they are, first of all, easily accessible and easy to find, and also very regionalized. Like in the UK they will cover news about local football teams and local news about casinos openings or sites getting their license approved. You need to know what you're looking for. Also, gambling and crypto gambling are two different things. Crypto is still a niche that isn't covered by many of these sites. If you want crypto casino news you'll probably find more information here on the forum.
1640  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia More Than Triples Current-Account Surplus to $167 Billion on: August 11, 2022, 09:58:38 PM
While I agree that the sanctions haven't hit Russia as much as was anticipated and some pretty smart financial policies helped the fiat currency stabilize, I also have a couple of questions. First is that the Bloomberg article is based on the Bank of Russia publication. If Russians lied they wouldn't invade, lied that they didn't torture civilians in Bucha, and that they didn't bomb Mariupol, then HOW do we know that they're not lying right now with this report? What's stopping Russian bank from simply writing up pretty numbers to show they're doing great while the reality is far from great?
Then look at things like food prices which, according to Russian sources, are roughly a quarter more than a year ago (but some estimates say even higher than that), and car prices are also up by 23% since the start of the full-scale war. I'd take these pretty numbers on a Russian website with a huge grain of salt, but also agree that much more must be done to prevent Russia from comfortably financing its current war.

That's what they're doing, you're right. I suspect the estimation is based on the current exchange rate of usd to ruble in Russia. We all know that this exchange was artificially inflated by Russia spending some of their gold to pump up ruble prices and demanding countries to pay for international trade in rubles. Some countries like Bulgaria, Finland and Poland refused to pay, but there are some who did, mainly Germany - a country that is making a fool of itself in the EU. First they blocked aid coming to Ukraine from the UK, refusing to let it pass through, then, when Ukraine requested military help, Germany said it cannot spare any vehicles because they're all being used, then we heard they're paying Russia despite sanctions... I say fuck Germany, the supposed leader of the EU, who goes against its own vote and openly supports the aggressor, that the whole Europe condemns. The world should learn from this conflict and see which countries are really on which side of this conflict.
France isn't much better as it delivered military equipment to Russia during the conflict, despite sanctions, and of course agreed to use the ruble.
