1681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia is proposing a new law to declare cryptowallets or be fined, go to jail on: September 27, 2020, 07:50:49 PM
Well, this will only make people go even more underground, seek more privacy increasing options, go more P2P, and more decentralized alternatives.

If this bill becomes a law in Russia or whatever country it follows, then more users will go seek more privacy, security online, alternatives where to buy/sell and using some decent DEX.

You guys managed to say the same thing there and I agree.

They won't achieve anything with this law because trading cryptocurrencies for fiat in Russia is already forbidden so nobody is going to leave a trace in the bank.

The only way to get crypto is to buy it with fiat money or get it as a payment for something and this is untraceable until you get caught in the act so trading bitcoin will become like trading drugs.

Holders aren't going to report what they have because they don't have to. People who get paid in bitcoin will have to go abroad to exchange because they can't do it in Russia anyway so they won't report anything or they will sell for cash on the street.

1682  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is the price of BTC (and any other crypto) always higher in Asian countries? on: September 27, 2020, 07:33:35 PM
It's not always higher.

It's not a big difference just 6 USD which isn't even 1%.
Small exchanges are more volatile so they react violently to every pump.

Funny, I thought the example you'll be giving based on your opening statement will be a scenario where that of Binance would be more costly than your local exchange. I have tried but seems that's unlikely to be the case as at every point I look at the market in my country, my local exchange always trade above other western exchange and it got me wondering what are they trying to achieve.

Initially you would think in order to win back the customers already patronizing foreign exchange that of the local exchange would be less costly and very user friendly to use but that's not the case. Which is probably why Binance and the other top exchanges are more popular than our local exchange even in the country.

The only time, I have witnessed what you tried highlighting was through peer2peer exchange. But when I encounter such offers it gives me a second thought of potential scam attempts.

What I was trying to say is there can be small differences but as long as it's 1% or less it's the same as no difference.

It won't allow you to profit from arbitrage, it won't really be worth it to send your coins there to exchange to a foreign currency and back to your bank.

Many EU and US exchanges have larger price differences within the same fiat currency like USD or EUR.
1683  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The meme that started it all - "Magic internet money Join Us!" on: September 27, 2020, 07:23:40 PM
Maybe I'm an OG magic internet money wizard maximalist but nothing will ever come close to the original painting. Nothing.

The original has this this unmatched vibe to it. That unique artistic detailing, that coloring! Truely a masterpiece of mspaint. Smiley
1684  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Kucoin exchange has experienced security breach with over 120 tokens affected on: September 27, 2020, 07:11:52 PM
Going over @VB1001’s list of Hacked Exchanges since 2011, this is certainly one of the biggies, and the amount is likely larger than the equivalent of 150M$, since this figure seems to be limited to ETH addresses (i.e. pending BTC toll and so forth).

Even if, as they state, their insurance will cover the losses, you never know where the amount is enough to draw the line and force the Exchange to close for good, with all that it entails for its customers. Can’t wait to see the “how” to these unfortunate events.

You could find many examples of this happening starting with Gox where they had a hack, claimed that everything was fine, thought they could make the money back from fees but it didn't work and finally shut down and went bankrupt.

I don't believe them and if I had any money there available for withdrawal I'd be moving.
1685  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My newbie stress reliever on: September 27, 2020, 06:56:09 PM
I don't get why you believe that investing in Bitcoin is risky but are thinking about other cryptocurrencies.

No altcoin is safe from a bitcoin crash. If bitcoin goes down everything else will so despite its high price bitcoin is still the safest one to buy.
1686  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: KUCOIN Hacked on: September 26, 2020, 02:50:51 PM
It feels really devastating reading that kucoin has been hacked. I'm only happy that the hack would not affect the users funds, but 157 million dollars is not a small sum to walk over. Something really needs to be done about these incessant hacks. It's less than a month since we heard EterbaseExchange was hacked. I'm really not finding this hack issue funny. Every exchange should guard their assets more this period.
it is really difficult to stop hackers. Most of the big exchanges nowadays often have very high security, but hackers still find the vulnerability. hence I don't expect any security-optimized application, I just hope exchanges should adjust the ratio between hot and cold wallets. they should reduce the percentage of money in hot wallets and increase the rate on cold wallets.
As for us, we should divide the capital into many exchanges. When we get hacked, we only lose a part, this is the best way to protect our assets in the crypto market.

It's not dificult.

Their hot wallet wasn't hacked. It was the machine on which the wallet was hosted. Your wallets and keys stored in them are as secure as the machines used to operate them.

Probably someone clicked one link too much or used the computer to browse the Internet or answer emails.
1687  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A woman has been arrested in the United States for hiring a killer with bitcoin on: September 26, 2020, 02:40:43 PM
Yes. Hiring a killer should be done in a chain and with familiarity.
Not directly

Unfortunately, people think that everything is like a movie Cheesy

I'd say it shouldn't be done at all Wink

There was a case years ago in the US where a woman tried this "chain" youre talking about. She contacted her friend and asked if he could help her find a killer because she wants to get rid of her husband. The guy went straight to the police and they sent an undercover officer to record her describing all the details.

Don't do it people!
1688  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How a crypto related website fall for a phishing thru Google Ad and gets hack on: September 26, 2020, 02:19:25 PM
Though I don't have any idea that how hacker make those changes. But I think we can't blame Google for this kind of issue.

Really? A multimillion dollar company hiring the best security specialists and coders in the world cannot be blamed for glitches?

They have all the means to rectify this but they don't care. Google and Youtube prefer to spy on you and go against the freedom of speech but are too busy to fix real issues.
1689  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How much do you trust Crypto currency based payments???? on: September 26, 2020, 02:01:14 PM
I trust them but don't use more often.

I'm curious where does this trust come from.

These platforms are just bad and unpopular. I wouldn't waste my time on them.

I came to discover nowadays that all those new project in the cryptocurrency are not too stable compare to Bitcoin, Ethereum, and LTC which their project is like hot cake in the market.
I think those coins you just mention for payment are not too good for market right now, Bitcoin,BNB, and Ethereum are well tested and trusted in the areas of payment in the market.
With the research i have carry out show that no matter amount of coin you invested on new project it hard to achieve great profit like, when you invest on old project which people no very well in the market as a good project.

I'm glad that more and more people are coming to their senses. There's erally no point in using such platforms because they are in no way better from the existing ones but come with additional risk.
1690  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A woman has been arrested in the United States for hiring a killer with bitcoin on: September 26, 2020, 01:54:54 PM
You have to be stupid to hire a killer these days. Most of the adds online are fakes set up by the police and you can't even be sure if the guy won't scam you.

It's so easy to take the downpayment and run because you know she won't report it. What would she say? I hired a killer and he didn't do his job? Cheesy
1691  Economy / Economics / Re: Why criminals prefer cash (Fiat) on top of crypto? on: September 25, 2020, 09:44:48 PM
I don't think so. Since doing KYC is usually mandatory on any fiat payment system, this will be so easy to track the criminals if they use the fiat. So, they would prefer to use a P2P currency like monero and bitcoin for the transactions. If you visit the darkweb, you will see many drug dealers and the other criminals asks usually for monero and specially bitcoin because of the privacy and none needs to do any kind of KYC for it. Also, using a simple mixer, the transactions will be nearly untraceable.

There's no KYC when you perform cash transactions. This is the fiat OP is talking about.

Cryptocurrency used to buy illegal goods is still a niche. Most transactions are performed in cash.

The number of people who want to buy drugs online and then have them shipped to them is extremely low compared to all meth heads and heroine addicts who buy every single day in parks and alleys.

1692  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Cash what are your thoughts? on: September 25, 2020, 09:26:25 PM
I don't hold any BCH but if I had I'd hope you guys pump it enough so I can unload my bags at a premium.
The developers work hard for the end users to make sure profit from the chain split. It is foolish not to notice this. After the hard fork, you can transfer your assets back from BCH/BCHN to BTC

But first you have to buy BCH, right? Isn't that what you all bagholders, including Roger of course, are hoping for?

I can tell you how this "profit" will look like.
In september 2018 before the BSV fork BCH was trading for 420 USD. Then it pumped to 630 USD right before the fork and dumped to 80USD in December.
1693  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people claim cryptocurrencies aren’t an asset? on: September 25, 2020, 09:19:01 PM
Decentralization is probably the main reason why people don't see it as a real asset.

There are also secondary reasons like no tangibility and lack of any legal representation. There's no manufacturer, no owner, noone to talk to or take to court with bitcoin and it messes with heads of people who lived through most of their lives without ever using a computer.
1694  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Rise Due to Lower US Dollar? on: September 25, 2020, 09:08:33 PM
Quote
gold is still preferable to bitcoin if that happens.

I watch gold every day so right now it is suffering, its a long term asset not short term perfect protection and little people on the street will want something a little more liquid.   Its going to take a bit of skill to play gold and the spreads will kill most people jumping in and out of it.   Nothing wrong with mixing the two as they do different things and imo gold appreciates on a decade long stride.

So just observing dollar index today, its a slight fall but only within wednesday pricing which is minor.   I think we're probably more stable till monday even tuesday.

Gold is still suffering less than silver. People who bought it could have done worse.

The real winners are always those who sell gold or silver like Peter Schiff and make money on small margins. For this reason buying into gold hype when markets were hit by covid news was a bad idea despite all the schilling Peter did at that time.

I think that the biggest factor is not the price of USD but the S&P500. If stocks go up this year Bitcoin will follow.
1695  Economy / Economics / Re: IMPACTS OF ROBOTICS ON WORLD ECONOMY on: September 25, 2020, 08:58:40 PM
Robots have been with us for a while now and have been implemented in sectors like military, medical and manufacturing;
• Drones are being used for reconnaissance and to attack enemy territory without needing to man the craft.
• Medical field has relied on technological advancement to improve the quality of health care.

These two examples aren't the best because drones aren't on full autopilot. It's true that they don't require a pilot but are flown remotely from base so the pilot is there on the job. Drones also require almost as much maintenance as normal planes.

Medical robots also work under surveillance. The same job used to be done by a surgeon but now you need a surgeon, a robot designer, a robot manufacturer and someone to maintain and fix any errors and issues between surgeries so you need even more jobs for what used to be done by a single man.
1696  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Less Volatile Coins on: September 25, 2020, 08:42:50 PM
You can see OP is a newbie when he starts talking about "volatile coins likebitcoin".

If you think Bitcoin is the volatile one you should spend some time in the altcoin section Wink Bitcoin is actually one of the least if not the least volatile.

I keep telling you people taht stablecoins cannot be used as investments. You are better off investing on forex than trying to make money holding USDt.
1697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Was 2017 the "Golden Year of Crypto"? on: September 25, 2020, 08:27:32 PM
2017 was the bubble year for crypto with all the cloud mining and ponzi schemes still active or begining. With so many ICOs pumping to incredible numbers and people believing there would be no end to it. The time when so many projects were abandoned and died.

It was definitely a year of hype but it wasn't a golden year. The best is yest to come with Bitcoin reaching a new high.
1698  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The biggest AIRDROP in the history of cryptocurrency on: September 25, 2020, 08:17:41 PM
Such a big number of coins will not make them worth a lot.

There were so many coins in the past that operated on very high supply and it did not make them valuable or popular.

RPD is worth 0,0001 USD per coin and is one of such high supply coins.

It's great they're airdropping so much because it will make them popular but the value of the drop may become a disappointment.

1699  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Cash what are your thoughts? on: September 25, 2020, 08:08:58 PM
BCH is a fork of bitcoin , It used to be popular in 2018 , but seems like lost some of its popularity, If you want to buy that you better buy bitcoin , coz it just follows its chart , and there are much better coins than that in the market these days.
Who cares about bitcoin? Hardfork is coming. BCH will make everyone rich at 15th Nov 2020. Don't miss your success

Like it made everyone who bought it in 2017 rich? Cheesy

Maybe like it made everyone who bought it prior to BSV fork rich?

I don't hold any BCH but if I had I'd hope you guys pump it enough so I can unload my bags at a premium.
1700  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin a sure legacy on: September 24, 2020, 08:19:11 PM
I always say to people like OP that the fact that Bitcoin was appreciating in value for 10 years doesn't mean it will not keep on depreciating for another 10.
The way it's built there's 0% chance that it will stay the way it is. It will either go up to 100 thousand USD and more or go hard down to 1000 and less.
I'm betting on it going up but I can be wrong. We all can.

You're confused between legacy and conservative. Bitcoin took conservative approach, but it doesn't mean Bitcoin is legacy or worse than other cryptocurrency.

You're right about this, it's too young to be called legacy, this is not decided yet.
