1701  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama or Romney ? on: October 15, 2012, 12:39:52 AM
just sent in my early ballot.. Romney all the way!  just wouldn't feel right voting for a commie.
Gah. I hope you were talking about the Communist Party candidate. Obama could hardly even be called a progressive. The only real difference between Obama and Romney is black and white.... or blue and red - the rest is all marketing. One wants to continue (and/or has a history of continuing) social and corporate welfare, while expanding military adventurism, and the other wants to continue (and/or has a history of continuing) social and corporate welfare, while expanding military adventurism - and neither has a comprehensive plan to pay for these programs (less "by 2020, my plan will have eliminated our deficit... (but when the people who aren't grandfathered into their welfare being cut are about to feel it, politicians revert, and nothing changes."). - And that's not even the worst of it. When these fucks are compromising, the end product is corporatism -- government funding select corporations for welfare/warfare handouts... because having the government do the work is "Communism," so that's the great accomplishment Republicans have given the US: instead of citizens paying the government to direct money, citizens pay the government to pay the corporations to direct money. Great. I swear - the only thing going for Obama is that he isn't Romney - and the only thing going for Romney is that he isn't Obama. We've got this.... fucking......... - and..... ugh - out of whiskey, again.

Obama is almost as republican as Regan.  Even the healthcare plan so many are calling 'commie/socialism' is to the right of Regan proposals.

1704  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Move 4 Less on: October 12, 2012, 08:06:42 PM
One can only hope that you paid these scumbags with a credit card and you have reversed the charges since they did not charge you what you contracted for (and you have a copy of that written contract to back you up?) Seizing your belongings and threatening to sell them is illegal- they would have to prefer a lien against those assets for charges which they would need to prove to a judge were valid and in compliance with your contract. Once a lien was perfected they would have to go through a process to enforce that lien against the goods, and there would be at least 90 days of mandated waiting time, if they found a crooked judge to find in their favor on the basis of a fraudulent contract.

Movers have a special advantage in many states called a carriers lien.  Since they already have the goods they technically do not need to seize them.  There may be waiting periods etc as you say though.

I am not saying any of this is right, but movers sometimes have a huge advantage over the customer as the customer may need these items quickly or they may not be replaceable.

The credit card is a good idea, as most of the bad companies that would do crap like this will not take a credit card.

1707  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: How can a place sell bitcoin for so cheap? on: October 10, 2012, 01:47:27 AM
I received an advertisement today about a site that is selling bitcoin for real cheap. 100 bitcoin for only $450. How is this possible? Are these places legit at all? I don't get it.
The site is www.btkoin.com and the prices are so damn tempting but usually if it's too good, it is too good to be true.

If you google them there is a claim that they are the same scammers as mtgax.com (typo squatting) as well as other scams.  If they were real I could buy 100 coins from them and make an instant $500 profit.

1711  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: MPOE-PR MPEX Representative Instigating FUD and Pedaling Illegal Immoral Service on: October 09, 2012, 02:04:00 AM
MPOE-PR Has consistently trolled, no big deal really, but the 24/7 spam of any and all threads about how terrible all other services are so that she/he can influence people to join their exchange. When GLBSE decided to shut down, the announcement was immediately posted that the registration would now be a further price gouge by raising it to 30 bitcoins. Meanwhile the company that peddles the exchange allows hosting of pornea of children, gore and various other "entertainment" that is unmoderated and in my opinion never associated with this forum. Their site belongs on the .onion domains just as posts for hitmen, threats of personal violence are not promoted on the forums either. I am sure there are plenty of other things, but these are just off the top of my head.

When asked to explain any of the items above all I achieved in response was that I had made the ignore list.

This does not belong in scam accusations.  While charging 30 BTC to join an exchange is too much and snide remarks by representatives is a clear message to stay away.......    That does not make it a scam.
1712  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: frank90 on: October 08, 2012, 10:12:36 PM
I never had a good feeling about that guy. Anybody dealing with gift cards is usually shady AF.
There is a major source of legit HD cards, all of the ones I purchased from Frank90 worked perfectly.
1713  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Move 4 Less on: October 08, 2012, 10:10:32 PM
Signed a binding agreement with them for a specific price after doing a full survey of everything. After the truck was fully loaded, they added another grand to the total and said they would SELL MY FURNITURE if I didn't pay.

Sry I know this doesn't belong here but I just had to vent somewhere. Everything's a scam

BA out

I am not sure I would ever want to hire a mover after the stories I have heard.  Someone I know had a similar situation except that the added charge was several thousand and only disclosed at the endpoint of the move.  The 'extra' had to be in CASH and when it was not they left with the load and did not come back until they were assured the money.  Police were called and would do nothing because it was a contract matter even though the fee was no where in the contract.  The movers added more charges due to the police call and left a second time.   They got away with at least $5000 in extra charges paid in cash at the end.
1714  Economy / Goods / iPhone 4 black 16gb factory unlocked $200 of BTC plus shipping on: October 06, 2012, 11:23:20 PM
Phone is factory unlocked by AT&T.  The front glass has a scratches in the glass, none of which are visible in operation.  The back glass has just been replaced with new perfect glass.  Phone will be reset prior to delivery.  I will include a power adapter and a USB cable.  No headphones, packaging or anything else are included.  This phone has standard (tiny) Phillips screws not the special Apple screws that make it harder to repair.

I can ship worldwide, buyer pays shipping and decides if they want insurance (at buyers cost).  Worldwide shipping is about $60 insured/tracked or as little as $18 uninsured/untracked  at buyers risk.  US shipping is $16 insured.

1715  Economy / Service Discussion / GLBSE is down on: October 06, 2012, 12:27:06 AM

From the site:

"GLBSE is offline

For those worried about their bitcoin, please calm yourselves there has been no hack and your coins are safe and all accounted for.

I apologize for the lack of notice and the downtime, but there isn't much choice. We will update our users on Saturday."

All I know is that during the Napster heyday I purchased more music then after.  I would explore with Napster then physically buy the items that I liked.  I was spending $2k-$3k per year during that period on music and video.  Then the crackdown started and I became angry at the music industry I was supporting.  Now I spend about $300 a year and almost all of that is through Apple.
1717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does Quantum Computing mean for Bitcoin? on: October 05, 2012, 10:09:58 PM
Quote
The National Security Center is building a highly fortified $2 Billion highly top secret complex simply named the “Utah Data Center” which will soon be home to the Hydrogen bomb of cybersecurity – A 512 Qubit Quantum Computer — which will revitalize the “total information awareness” program originally envisioned by George Bush in 2003.

Why would they be doing this if D-Wave's quantum computers are no more powerful than a cellphone?

Saying they aren't real quantum computers is just disinformation.

Remember when binary computers took up entire rooms? We're at (or past) that state right now with quantum computers.

No, because when the binary computer took up an entire room, it was in actuality a binary computer as represented.

Scientists in the field say that the D-wave machine is NOT a quantum computer at all.
1718  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google, Lockheed, the CIA, Jeff Bezos are all betting on quantum computing... on: October 05, 2012, 03:43:59 AM
You're about 6 months late to the QC discussion.

If you haven't asked AT&T to do it then its not unlocked, just go by an AT&T store and have them do it. It helps the resale value a lot.
I have done it via AT&T chat, they have unlocked 4 phones for me so far.  You need a valid current AT&T account of course.
