1722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Satoshi about to show up? on: September 07, 2021, 02:42:25 PM
don't ever expect satoshi to appear, because forever he will be a mystery, even though some say he is satoshi, rest assured, he's just a swindler, who wants to seek fame, and wants to be flattered by others

I would just tell everyone so eager to look for him to just go for the guy still alive claiming to be Satoshi. Because if they actually can believe that crap,,, then they probably deserve that crap.

I actually kind of like these scams because it attracts the right kind of people in the end Tongue
1723  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto Price Prediction on: September 07, 2021, 12:46:27 PM
BTC doesnt really move like a rocket or it'd fall back down with far harsher action then the selling we do also see, some of the gains are going to be absorbed by selling at the same time.
Most people predicting the price are actually predicting the intrinsic value of bitcoin which means the $100k to $200k is a good guess that is closest to the intrinsic value. But that is not going to be the peak. Just like 2017 when something around $8k was the intrinsic value and you are right about not reaching it like a rocket but bitcoin has never stopped at the intrinsic value ever. It will shoot up more like 2017 when it went up to $20k it will also go to $500k in 2022.
And only then it can have a bubble pop.

Makes sense to say that everyone is predicting an "instrinsic value" but all those predictions in general are TA, which is based purely on market movement (price as a result of demand and supply).

I never heard anyone say intrinsic value was 8k at 2017 though,,, but I would love for you to be right about 100k intrinsic value. Will there be a possibility the price never reaches value?

It was already obvious that Russell deserved Bottas' seat with his performance at Williams. He did awesome things lately with one of the worst cars in the grid. And Bottas hasn't been able to compete with Hamilton also. And his action in the last race already proved that he wanted to leave Mercedes. I wonder whether they give the same car to Hamilton and Bottas both. Because Bottas is not a really bad driver. Maybe the car is a hindrance for him to get ahead of Hamilton. We will see it in the next season when Russell joins the team.

So Bottas will be expected to team up and play nice with Hamilton,,, I cannot see that happening easily unless Bottas already made a decision to take the money and do what the team need hehe. Yes he is not a bad driver but this season he should have at least 2 or 3 more Top 3 finishes. He has just not enough aggression to win.

1726  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Twitter seems likely to integrate tipping using Bitcoin. on: September 07, 2021, 10:02:51 AM
As long as they do not make it difficult for people to withdraw a few satoshis or dollars every now and then,,, then it is fine. But imagine if you allowed 10 satoshi tipping or okay 20 satoshi (over US 1 cent now) and then discover you need min 30,000 satoshi to withdraw, plus fee.

I can foresee a lot of abandoned accounts making money for Twitter.
1727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mining is not profitable enough! on: September 07, 2021, 07:05:28 AM
I do not disagree that on chain capacity needs to be more but just from what I can gather from my own observations that everybody seems to be building on L2, as long as,,, on L1 when they finalize the channels they can be sure of security and permanence. Which is still the biggest strength of Bitcoin as opposed to Ethereum and others all popularly using L2.
L2 and L1 are fundamentally different. L2 is suitable for smaller transactions while L1 is suitable for larger transactions, which makes far more sense. L2 cannot scale without the base layer being expanded as well. We will always have on-chain transactions when opening or closing the channel, which will happen far more frequently than you think. Lack of transactions on-chain will probably not be due to the popularity of L2 for years to come. There are still various hurdles to overcome.
I do think the level of security is high enough that it does not need to be much higher, just as you say to make it too expensive to attack. But it is not just about hashpower also but the diversity of hashpower that is important.
Mining is as decentralized as it gets, anything that favours economy of scale will also result in centralization. That is a fact. The security would primarily be regarding the costs of attack rather than how decentralized it actually is. If it is not desirable to attack at all, then it simply won't happen.

I agree that L1 confirmation (as I said to finalize the channels) will be happening a lot more often than people imagine,,, which is actually proven already with Ethereum (when looking at Polygon for example), when people have L2, it seems they are more willing to conduct more transactions. For example separating 10 items on individual orders as opposed to batching 10 items on one order, so the myth of L2 pulling away business from L1 is already not true (people still make the final order regardless).

What I meant about reduction of hashpower is that if people leave,,, generally only the smaller ones leave, those whose profit margins are not as good as bigger companies. So a problem might arise if smaller players keep leaving, and only big ones are left. So we can deal with hashpower reduction but diversity might be an issue.
1728  Economy / Marketplace / Re: OnlyFans-like product with payments in crypto on: September 07, 2021, 06:29:06 AM
My only comment is,,, This is why it can never work in Asia, or rather,,, not if it is based in Asia. Already OnlyFans got in a lot of trouble from the conservatives and this is why they initially made heir announcement to ban adult content, imagine if they was to try this in Asia. Adult content and crypto, it is like you have to pick just one problem to deal with Wink
1729  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀-Sportsbet.io-🚀 - Main sponsor of Southampton FC 👋👋 on: September 07, 2021, 06:12:35 AM
Sportsbet.io is really generous when it comes to gifts. They sent me extra jerseys every time on the topics that jeremypwr opened. The only problem that I can complain about the website can be that I have a really bad luck these days. But they confirmed my withdrawal requests in only five minutes when I had a good luck.

Whether it was 300 mbtc for a big prize which I won here,,, or even just 1 mbtc which I used to pay for a predictor pool (also sponsored by Sportsbet of course),,, they took the same fast amount of time to withdraw and no problems or difficulties encountered.

Not to mention random freebets like the Betbuilder ones I got recently, in addition to the ones you win from contests, like there is almost one every day on this forum!

Definitely, the only thing I can complain is they give us less and less reason to gamble in other books:)
1730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying $30 in Bitcoin on Tuesday! For El Salvador and for Bitcoin on: September 07, 2021, 04:49:25 AM
How nice a world we live in if everybody could think that those 3.3 million community members of reddit are all real, or that even they would buy any amount of Bitcoin. Reddit/Twitter are full of shillers and maybe only 10% real people.

Ok this forum also has a lot of fakes but I believe at least 30,000 (1%) of those reddit people are real people here using and buying Bitcoin every day.

Great win for Max today and a well deserved one as the fans deserved this win too. I was surprised that they came with a live performer to sing the Nederlands anthem and it was a great move by Liberty Media and maybe some other countries will take notice.

I do wonder what will happen with Vettel as rumors are getting stronger about him have some arguments with Lauren Stroll.

I liked the sights too. A great sporting event,,, welcoming after more than 30 years the F1 back to Netherlands and as I was suspecting several days ago, the sure bet to make to get local army support behind their driver. It was a great way to wipe off the bad memories from next door neighbor Belgium for sure  Roll Eyes
1733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would bitcoin still go far if it was private on: September 06, 2021, 04:06:13 PM
I cannot imagine any situation where a private blockchain would have the same success by a long shot,,, imagine if the original people who took up Bitcoin were not free to use their own ways to implement, or had to seek permissions to simply participate.

This is like EOS at the beginning applying to be block founder/validator. Simply not the same type of people!
1734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Reserves on Coinbase the Lowest Since December 2017 on: September 06, 2021, 03:05:59 PM
- Crypto owners prefer to keep their coins in their own private wallets. Hopefully open-source and non-custodial ones.

This is not proven though,,, and if I judge from the people I know and interact with, they are simply just leaving their coins in other types of services accounts. I even admit I keep a small amount in casinos to gamble with and sometimes I should be withdrawing it all but I leave it there to perhaps gamble with a bigger bankroll down the line,,, not wise, but I think this is also the behavior of majority of us.
1735  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: App to monitor ETH gas fees on: September 06, 2021, 02:34:11 PM
I tried gweifications before but it seems to send me updates very late,,, like by the time I check, fees are high again.

I think the trick is to send an alert for a fee a little bit higher than you want to pay, like say 100 gwei, and then anyway try to send 70 gwei or 80 gwei. It takes a little bit longer to confirm but it works for me and if after 3 hours or so still pending I speed up to 90 or around there.
1736  Economy / Speculation / Re: Seriously. How much market cap can Bitcoin absorb from other assets? on: September 06, 2021, 12:34:09 PM
I didn't know about the 1+ billion dollar payment processed thing, that is huge number honestly for just one company, because let's be honest we do not pay just from bitpay as well, I never used it and I still paid so much and that is why I believe that we should not be considering any problems at all believing the real number is about 10+ billion dollars a year just on payments.

And that is just Bitpay. There are tons of other payment processors apart from Bitpay like Coinpayments and in Asia we even have PundiX though it seems to be on the downtrend. I just saw a processor called Coinspaid that has also processed billions of transactions (but as 3rd party for other sites so they are not famous),,, the numbers are staggering, we just do not see them Smiley
1737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin brings us true freedom of thought on: September 06, 2021, 08:54:30 AM
Yes, in my opinion, the most important thing about Bitcoin is that it gives us freedom of thought. It really liberates our minds, so that we can free ourselves to imagine. Before the birth of Bitcoin, our only choice was to follow the guidance of our government, not to doubt the various policies formulated by our government, not to doubt the rationality of legal tender, but to passively accept that inflation has caused us. Exploitation of wealth. However, when Bitcoin was born, Bitcoin gave us a whole new choice. We can choose to abandon fiat currency and embrace Bitcoin. We can use Bitcoin to store our wealth, and our thoughts and wealth have gained true freedom.

I find myself disagreeing with you even as a purely objective person. I like Bitcoin and I understand it gives freedom of use, of how you can choose to interact with it,,, but I never needed Bitcoin to have my freedom of thought Smiley

I think if we are honest also, a lot of Bitcoin people actually do not have freedom of thought, they automatically think they are better than others and others are less than them.

Bitcoin is a new choice, but still not everybody has the option to even know about this choice.
1738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now is the best time to invest in Bitcoin on: September 06, 2021, 08:17:04 AM
Actually in 2021 we have benefited from investing in bitcoin because for this year the increase in bitcoin prices is extraordinary and the achievement of new ATH for this year is beyond our previous predictions, so not a few old investors have now gotten satisfactory results, but for now it never hurts to invest in bitcoin because the price increase is happening so we still have a chance to get results.

Been active since 2016 and only for real since 2017 and I can safely say I have benefited all those years from Bitcoin,,, and only some of those months in altcoins.

The best thing about Bitcoin for me personally is when the price is good,,, we are sitting on so much value dollar wise. When the price is bad, we can stock up so much more for the future. Hence, never a bad time.
1739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mining is not profitable enough! on: September 06, 2021, 08:00:33 AM
This sounds like a good plan except that is it not true that the direction of development now is on layer 2 rather than on chain? I think the size is still a problem so they would like to restrict it on chain like that and keep those 100k transactions all on Lightning.
There is simply no way that transactions are done entirely on lightning or on layer 2. That is unrealistic and makes Bitcoin completely useless and which is why I've criticized repeatedly on the fallacy of having a limited on-chain capacity and banking on off-chain TXes to sustain the TX volume. We absolutely need a capacity increase in the future to even think of mass adoption. Again, 7TPS is ridiculously small and lightning network isn't (and should not) be the solution to the problem.

Again, the problem we're looking at right here is not to ensure that we maintain the same level of security. The whole point of PoW is to make it more expensive to attack the chain than be honest. If there is a substantial security decrease but we're still looking at a huge discrepancy between the profits from an attack vs profits from mining, then there is no problem.

I do think the level of security is high enough that it does not need to be much higher, just as you say to make it too expensive to attack. But it is not just about hashpower also but the diversity of hashpower that is important.
1740  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Fees? on: September 06, 2021, 06:52:41 AM
Dont make your trades last more than a day. Some trades eats a lot of trading fee especially if theres no volatility.
A friend of mine trades only on spike and makes a 100x leverage, he puts a target profit and once it hits, he stop trading. He reads the chart and wait for another opportunity.

OP already answered and he will not be doing it anymore. But actually I wanted to just point our your mistake. There is fees charged only on closing a trade, I do not know any exchange that will ask you to pay fee to keep your trades open (unless you are doing forex then you may have overnight interest).
