1741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now is the best time to invest in Bitcoin on: September 06, 2021, 08:17:04 AM
Actually in 2021 we have benefited from investing in bitcoin because for this year the increase in bitcoin prices is extraordinary and the achievement of new ATH for this year is beyond our previous predictions, so not a few old investors have now gotten satisfactory results, but for now it never hurts to invest in bitcoin because the price increase is happening so we still have a chance to get results.

Been active since 2016 and only for real since 2017 and I can safely say I have benefited all those years from Bitcoin,,, and only some of those months in altcoins.

The best thing about Bitcoin for me personally is when the price is good,,, we are sitting on so much value dollar wise. When the price is bad, we can stock up so much more for the future. Hence, never a bad time.
1742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mining is not profitable enough! on: September 06, 2021, 08:00:33 AM
This sounds like a good plan except that is it not true that the direction of development now is on layer 2 rather than on chain? I think the size is still a problem so they would like to restrict it on chain like that and keep those 100k transactions all on Lightning.
There is simply no way that transactions are done entirely on lightning or on layer 2. That is unrealistic and makes Bitcoin completely useless and which is why I've criticized repeatedly on the fallacy of having a limited on-chain capacity and banking on off-chain TXes to sustain the TX volume. We absolutely need a capacity increase in the future to even think of mass adoption. Again, 7TPS is ridiculously small and lightning network isn't (and should not) be the solution to the problem.

Again, the problem we're looking at right here is not to ensure that we maintain the same level of security. The whole point of PoW is to make it more expensive to attack the chain than be honest. If there is a substantial security decrease but we're still looking at a huge discrepancy between the profits from an attack vs profits from mining, then there is no problem.

I do not disagree that on chain capacity needs to be more but just from what I can gather from my own observations that everybody seems to be building on L2, as long as,,, on L1 when they finalize the channels they can be sure of security and permanence. Which is still the biggest strength of Bitcoin as opposed to Ethereum and others all popularly using L2.

I do think the level of security is high enough that it does not need to be much higher, just as you say to make it too expensive to attack. But it is not just about hashpower also but the diversity of hashpower that is important.
1743  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Fees? on: September 06, 2021, 06:52:41 AM
Dont make your trades last more than a day. Some trades eats a lot of trading fee especially if theres no volatility.
A friend of mine trades only on spike and makes a 100x leverage, he puts a target profit and once it hits, he stop trading. He reads the chart and wait for another opportunity.

OP already answered and he will not be doing it anymore. But actually I wanted to just point our your mistake. There is fees charged only on closing a trade, I do not know any exchange that will ask you to pay fee to keep your trades open (unless you are doing forex then you may have overnight interest).

Game between Brazil and Argentina was cancelled last night as I am sure many will have read the news,,, nothing to say except they ruined our Blackjack and our 4-3-free picks  Embarrassed

Have you guys seen what was the reason for stopping the match? Brazilian health authorities decided to remove all 4 Argentinian players that came from England due to covid measures. 3 of them were in first 11. That is all ok, but when you take into account that they were in Brazil 3 days before the game than it becomes really strange. #OnlyInBrazil

Indeed,,, only in Brazil. During Covid I have been entertained by two new Brazilian friends I have online, and they tell me there is a saying over there they have for outsiders,,, "you cannot survive Brazil". I see everything they share and I have to admit, it is a strange place with strange decisions where football is king:)

Not too sure about that, the PL games are starting again next weekend. Our first two blackjack hits were in the PL. I think there’s a good chance we hit another blackjack before stacking up nineteen busts. It’s all about patience & calculated risk dude.

I think we really ran it on that high scoring points week,,, 3 Blackjacks and 2 busts in just less than 10 days. Early season wonders of energy and sprinting and players all eager to score,,, and nothing like Premier League for corners and goals, it seems cards will be even fewer this season because of changes to VAR not that it stopped teams from getting people sent off already Smiley I totally cannot wait to get back I am in heaven with my team top and Arsenal bottom, as much as it hurts to see SB sponsor team down there, it does feel nice for a change but I know Gunners will show everyone what they are made of, and maybe even give us Blackjack a few times to return the bust they allowed City!

McLaren did not even finish in top 10 today at free practice, so I lost some bets already there,,, learning my lesson not to bet on free practice:)

This is the first F1 in Netherlands in 30 years, what a history to come back there! Verstappen to use local army psychology to win sounds like a fair result for at least podium finish.
1752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The life span of bitcoin is till infinity on: September 03, 2021, 01:57:20 PM
Infinity is just a concept,,, and 100 years for us many will not even be alive so 100 or 1000 years makes no difference in the concept of infinity, which makes it perfectly valid for now to say Bitcoin has lifespan of infinity.

But so many things happen in tech in 10 or 20 years,,, we would have to adjust this thinking in another 10 years.
I think if this thread will be answered again maybe 5 or 10 years from now, then we will discover that the same answers will come out in the forum. And hopefully bitcointalk will still be here by that time. However, when we talk of the life span of bitcoin, i know it will still come to an end because even humans don't live until infinity. So same goes with the present investments today.

Bitcoin has been very good to us and definitely it really has a bright future. But the possibility of other investments to also come up rising in the market is very high so the moment bitcoin will no longer has its demand, then probably that would be the end of bitcoin.

If Bitcoin is around in 10 years, so will this forum. I cannot see a future where people are still using Bitcoin and no longer going to this forum. The OGs are here, the newbies after getting disappointed in other sites where there is only a desire for profit and not education, they will eventually find all the useful information here.

That 10 years is enough for me to say infinity. May it long be this way  Smiley
1753  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Reserves on Coinbase the Lowest Since December 2017 on: September 03, 2021, 12:54:15 PM
From your own chart you can see that when this bull market started in the end of 2020, the amount of Bitcoin reserves on Coinbase was at ATH for quite some time, then it started lowering even while Bitcoin had a dip. I think there's no strong correlation here that could allow to predict the long term price movement. People very easily can send thousands of Bitcoin tomorrow to dump them. Maybe it only means that investors are becoming more aware of the risks of holding coins on centralized exchanges.

In fact,,, maybe reserves on exchanges like Coinbase indicate people are just preparing to sell off as well. I know some people make the decision to liquidate by moving everything they want to sell on a reputable exchange like Coinbase (and not Binance for example) to take advantage of low fees and fast confirmations so they can place limit orders for the price they expect. Not that Coinbase is safer,,, but it is perceived to be.
1754  Economy / Speculation / Re: Seriously. How much market cap can Bitcoin absorb from other assets? on: September 03, 2021, 10:55:17 AM
Many people are overreacting on how much they could make with a bitcoin investment, and that is why there is a need to know how high it could get, and the reality is that if your only aim is to keep making more and more money then maybe bitcoin is not for you.

I am not saying do not make any money from bitcoin, of course you will want to make some profit, but it can't be 420 trillion dollars worth of money as we all know, we can't just hope for 100x on bitcoin as well, what we can do however is the fact that we could make some money, not a ton but some money and also use it, and store our wealth at the same time. This is the greatness about bitcoin, you do not lose networth and that means a lot.

Well,,, we have to admit that most of us are in Bitcoin because of the potential for financial gain. I love how Bitcoin provides an alternative for those trapped in a system they do not benefit from or are restricted but most of us forum users at most use it as a better means of payment or like for me, from gambling. So you should expect people to have unrealistic expectations and perhaps thanks to them holding on for ever,,, we enjoy the benefits better;)
1755  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: South African Man Loses $900,000 Worth Of BTC After Accidentally Deleting Keys on: September 03, 2021, 08:18:09 AM
I haven't read the entire story but I think such keys can be easily restored by using data recovery software or since the amount involved is gigantic, he can also hire an expert to help him out and promise them a good amount. If my maths is right, it is nearly 20 BTC that's lost and any good hacker/technician will recover them for a mere 1 BTC.

So why do you not read the entire story then? Have you ever tried data recovery software? I even use it many times to try and find deleted Microsoft office files and most of the time even if I can recover something,,, it is not the fully intact file with many things changed or missing, or corrupted.

This hacking thing is not as easy as in the movies man Smiley
1756  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now is the best time to invest in Bitcoin on: September 03, 2021, 08:01:56 AM
Well BTC is still below $50k now and it has been now 5 weeks in the 40-50 range, so you had plenty of time to get in. If you thought missing out on 30k is bad because we are at 40-50k,,, imagine how much more regret you will feel missing out at 48k when BTC is above 100k  Grin

You are saying it cannot really go up to 100k this year, why?
Sometimes doubts will lead to regret and when the price of bitcoin is low but there are doubts about buying it and when the price rises slightly from the previous price it is still doubtful and will waste time which is actually a waste of time.
you should take advantage when the bitcoin price is still 30k, 40k, 50k and find accurate news about bitcoin in the future, because many people are talking that bitcoin will reach 100k by the end of this year or early next year.

I do not think this is about regret though,,, if you saw the response I was replying to the guy was quite optimistic, nothing about regret, but then he also said it could not really go up to 100k, so I wondered why there would be so much positivity on one side and yet not on the top end.

Forget finding accurate news, man,,, this does not exist.
1757  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Fees? on: September 03, 2021, 06:52:12 AM
I checked the order history and it said it had taken around 0.00001120 BTC in fees. Okay, fine but where has the other $3.60 got to?  Angry forgive me if I'm being dumb somehow but that sort of fee seems awfully high for one spot trade.

No one pointed out so sorry if I am wrong.

According to my estimate, 0.00001120 BTC in fees is roughly $5, and maybe at the time you did it if it was a few days ago, judging from price, it could be actually closer to $4.

So could the simplest answer be that your $5 ++ profit became $1 after the $4 fee in BTC?

I did not lose any money,,, I chose to go for even, and did so successfully. It does feel like a lot of money right now so I may drop out early  Tongue
In the previous casino hero I also went for roulette as my go to game and did the same strategy placing very small bets (around 0.02mbtc per chip) and go for both colors.

On a good day I end up losing nothing (same as you) there are times where zeroes won't appear for like 50-100 spins but on average I think I lost around 0.1mbtc then on a bad day i'll lose maybe 0.2mbtc to 0.3mbtc depending on the amount of greens I get. It's honestly not that bad knowing you'll get extra rewards to reduce those losses every 2-3 weeks.

I guess this is definitely a favorite strategy to use for players and not just myself. I like to make it very fast if I have to complete wager requirements or,,, sometimes to make the next level in clubhouse;) I just even put all my wagering requirement on red and black and pray 0 does not hit.

If 0 hits,,, then I stay and try to win at least half of it back before quitting for the next day. Like you said,,, the extra rewards help even it all out.
1760  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mining is not profitable enough! on: September 03, 2021, 04:57:53 AM
What if each block contains 100000 transactions instead of the current 2800, little infrastructure change is probably needed to change that (if any other than code and signalling). Each of those could pay $1 and overpay on the current system.

This sounds like a good plan except that is it not true that the direction of development now is on layer 2 rather than on chain? I think the size is still a problem so they would like to restrict it on chain like that and keep those 100k transactions all on Lightning.

It will probably end up being no fees, but rewards being worth much more thanks to price.
