The recent StackExchange victory

What is this in reference to?

http://monero.stackexchange.com/

Only cryptos that have their own stackexchange site are bitcoin, ethereum, and now monero.

Good points. Also added the reptilian as well.

That's also true. If Zoidberg says bye to us all and takeover happens, this will be one of the first things to do. No problem paying for the work done, but there wasn't much of it in the past year or so.

This coin's biggest asset and it's greatest headache has been the talented, but mercurial dev.

Zoidberg should definitely be chief coder (if he wants to), but someone else should take over the day to day running of it, someone less ephemeral.  Wink

The Louisd'or project that Zoidberg was working on also seems to be dead in the water with a beta release promised six months ago and, since then, nothing at all. I'm sensing deja vu here.

If some set-up could be organised where Zoidberg was overseeing BBR, but still be able to come and go as he pleases whilst others take care of the stuff he finds boring... we might be on to something and the prospects for BBR could only improve.

As for the 1% dev fee, I'm happy for Zoidberg to keep what he has (it's well deserved) and he should continue getting it if he can find a way to become involved again. Otherwise, I think the fee should be raised to 2% and used for the betterment of BBR, be it promotion, buying in expertise, whatever.

Finally, before anyone starts again, the name is cool.  Grin

I know 1% isn't a huge amount, especially in dollar terms for a low market cap coin, but it just smells bad, imo. I also think Monero has pretty conclusively demonstrated that their voluntary contribution forum funding system is a better model for getting shit done.

How much of your 1% ongoing premine have you been holding? Dumping all the time, or just socking it away?

Unless he owns 1% premine of Bitcoin, I don't think that is enough to be "dumping all the time" for the past 2 years...

Just curious if he's holding or selling his founder's rewards. Of course whatever he soaks up is enough for him to be "dumping all the time".

I don't think one block a day is a big deal at the prices we saw this year. I recall miners can vote to reduce Zoidberg's reward down to 0% if they really want to.

I don't think this is correct, in fact, there was quite a bit of discussion about it a year or more ago. I think they can vote to delay them, or something, but I believe in the end it always comes out to 1%. Anyway, I guess miners can vote to reduce Zoidberg's rewards by just hardforking his ongoing mine dev address out of the source code if they were so inclined.

1770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON 2nd gen cryptonote, anon, mobile-friendly, scalable, pruning on: September 02, 2016, 01:09:24 AM
I seem to have issues mining with the opencl wolf miner. I have mined on ARUX's pool for months with no issues and i had switched to mining some expanse for awhile. I went back to mining Aeon a few days ago and every time i end up getting booted for low difficulty shares. This happens on Arux's and Aides pool. I didnt change my settings from before. I used to mine with a set difficulty so i removed that, and then i also tried increasing it to 150,000 plus with no change. Whats wrong? The only thing that is different now is that i have 8 more cards im mining with with 4 per rig. Can someone please help?

Same, wolf miner will time out or something after a little while and never starts mining again, but ccminer fork works fine ad infinitum (on arux's pool), whereas a few weeks ago both worked fine.

Congrats Sammy on legendary. Afaik staking is only done by GUI and once you lock you can't withdraw until time is up that you set at locking time.

Re: rich list, I only bought a few, so almost everything I have was mined on my old laptop i5 cpu, a bit over 30k now I think.
1772  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 31, 2016, 12:32:43 PM

At the moment, that is the extent of anonymity, but ring confidential transactions are coming very soon (6-12 months), and built-in kovri/i2p support is probably in that same timeframe, maybe a bit longer, so there is more on the way.

Get with the program buddy, ringCT implementation has been moved up to this year and is currently in testing.

I know, so best case is it gets activated on main net early next year, ~6 months.

They don't all fall under ring signatures role. If you could be bothered to read the white paper or try googling "cryptonote untraceable unlinkable" (first result: https://cryptonote.org/inside ) you would quickly realize that ring signatures provide untraceable payments, and stealth addresses or one-time keys provide unlinkable transactions. So, your premise is wrong.

Well the stealth addresses utilise the ring signatures, sorry for not being precise.

Also I have no need to read the whitepaper when my question is as straightforward as it is.

So in answer to my question, the answer is basically a yes then, Moneros anonymity in transactions is solely handled by Stealth Addresses and Ring Signatures.

Stealth addresses are independent of ring signatures. Stealth addresses have been implemented on Bitcoin clones such as Vertcoin and Myriadcoin. Ring signatures without stealth addresses are implemented on Bitcoin clone Shadowcash. To say that ring signatures use stealth addresses is the same as saying stealth addresses use ring signatures - they work together in Cryptonotes, but they're not dependent on one another.

Is your anonymity solely based around Stealth Addresses with ring signatures and also creating tx's with empty vouts?

Or is there more to it and if so, what?

Because:

Untraceable payments
Unlinkable transactions
Blockchain analysis resistance

all fall under the ring signatures role.

I am looking for a direct answer, not a redirect to a whitepaper.

bump

Do you think you could explain how they "fail under the ring signatures role"
I think its something I would like explained to me

Thanks

I am not here to answer how Monero works. I am here for answers. Let's hope the answer I get envelops your question too.

New Roadmap and major news update coming at the end of this weekend.

Nice. I'm almost tempted to lock some coins up for a while and soak up some interest...almost.

Does not work. I couldn't create a new wallet. The button doesn't respond.

Make sure you have simplewallet program in the same directory.

can you give me a complied build for XMR ? the platform is windows 64bit , I'm really looking forward for a better wallet .

You can download binaries at getmonero.org

Hello,

I lost my password of my wallet ¿ what can i do ?

If you have the seed you can restore the wallet and bypass the password, if not...

I dont know whats is the seed. I was mining this coin 2 years ago. I had 42 xmr

Oh, wallet that old might not have a seed. There's nothing you can do if you can't remember password. There are wallet recovery services that can try to crack it, but you have to have some idea of what password might have been.

Okay, that swept 1.41 XMR plus .30 for the fee.  Brought my balance down to a little less than 4.  Tried to send 3.0 and it gave me the not enough coins bit.  Says only something like .7 available in red.  I have been mining directly to that wallet (0.9.4) so does this mean that balance is phony?

Appreciate the help

After you sweep the coins, you probably have to wait 10 blocks before the new inputs get confirmed.
