Cheques to be paid in via smartphones

Wow, what a revolution. NOT!

Lol, who actually uses cheques any more?
18362  Other / Meta / Re: Cannot Watch topics. on: December 28, 2013, 10:22:59 AM
The unwatch feature doesn't seem to work either.

Do you have posts in the thread you want to unwatch or not?

Yeah. Is there a way around unwatching these?

Alex Jones here. Bitcoin was created by the globalist elite as a one world currency to enslave us all.
18364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't invest in bitcoin; invest in services! on: December 28, 2013, 10:09:57 AM
Apparently, the richest man in Asia, Li Ka-shing, is invested in bitpay. So now, we get an article saying that means you shouldn't invest in bitcoin, but rather you should invest in bitcoin services: http://www.scmp.com/business/banking-finance/article/1390224/bitcoin-service-firms-best-investment-not-virtual-currency

The chief economist at Invesco John Greenwood is saying investing in bitcoin doesn't make sense because it doesn't satisfy three requirements for currencies: "be an effective medium of exchange for a wide range of goods and services; be a long-term store of value or be used for the settlement of long-term contracts; or be a universal unit of account."

If Greenwood really believes bitcoin's doomed, I don't think he's be advising people to invest in bitcoin services...

Why not invest in both? I'm sure he holds some Bitcoins as well.
18365  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you see when you go to bed? on: December 28, 2013, 09:58:16 AM
I don't see much, usually I go out almost instantly. That's probably because I like go to bed late and then read some Smiley Oh, and sometimes I sleep on my back, but not in a coffin or anything Cheesy

Arms crossed?

I find reading is good to help you nod off... well unless it's great book you can't put down.

Yeah, Imgur. I used to use photobucket, but I don't bother with it now. Imgur is much more efficient.

The unwatch feature doesn't seem to work either.
18369  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: UK capital gains (or any other) tax on: December 28, 2013, 09:47:42 AM
I thought the whole idea of Bitcoin was to keep things safe from prying eyes.

We should not treat crypto as another investment but as a completely new way of doing things.

Why not treat it as a completely new way of investing?
18370  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello! CENT help on: December 28, 2013, 09:45:07 AM
Hey all! JohnathanCity here. Gotten into altcoins lately, and I was needed some help as my CENT wallet won't finish syncing, but I'm penned in the noob section for the moment. haha
I had been shadowing a thread for awhile, but I can't find any answers. It's stopped syncing at 5311 blocks. Anybody have a clue why?

Plus, on top of that, the client simply quit loading and won't boot now. :/

Wallets usually take hours to load the first time, but I don't have any experience with CENT so maybe there's a problem with it like there was with the Infinitecoin wallets never synching fully.
18371  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoins ruined my life on: December 28, 2013, 09:42:32 AM
This thread makes me think the value of Litecoin will go up based on the premise people will feel they "Missed the Boat".

I believe we have yet to set sail, so jump on board and quit whining about the price.  Any Bitcoin you secure today will be worth much more in ten years if Bitcoin succeeds at existing that long.

I think that's exactly what did happen. Litecoin will continue to rise along with BTC, but it'll never get anywhere close unless it gets some merchants behind it.
18372  Other / Off-topic / Re: FREE MONEY! Wait what? Get outta here.. on: December 28, 2013, 09:40:23 AM
Why do they make it so hard to get a work permit in the UK? You want to work and they make it difficult?

EU and non EU immigrant issue?

Ive never been to the UK.. What is the UK like?

It's cold and dank and grey and everybody is miserable and moans all the time.

And it's full of these people who think they own the country:

18373  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What coins out there are the newest? on: December 28, 2013, 09:33:40 AM
Is there anywhere I can find a list of newer coins and possibly information about them???  I have used cryptsy but I seem to have noticed a trend with most coins and would like to find something new that could pop if im lucky.

Thanks for any suggestions   Grin

Probably best keeping an eye on the alt currency section here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0

http://www.wheretomine.com/ also has a big list.
18374  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyway to instantly buy btc? on: December 28, 2013, 09:21:00 AM
I wish it was easier to buy btc with paypal. Scammers ruined it  Undecided

You can use ebay but you'll pay a premium.
18375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How are trades conducted here? on: December 28, 2013, 09:19:24 AM
Rule number 1: Don't rust anybody. The trust system here is fundamentally flawed and is easily abused, so it's worth little.
18376  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How did you find bitcointalk.org? on: December 28, 2013, 09:18:01 AM
askjeeves.com. I asked Jeeves for bitcoin forum. Jeeves sent me here.
18377  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyway to instantly buy btc? on: December 28, 2013, 09:01:52 AM
I buy through coinbase. The thing with that though is that even after i've had my account verified, i still have to wait 4-5 business days to actually receive my btc. Other than localbitcoin, is there any way to receive btc's faster?

What country are you in? Bittylicious is really fast and simple, but it's uk only.
18378  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Idea to protect merchants against volatility on: December 28, 2013, 08:59:03 AM
A simple and easy solution is to use Bitpay or Coinbase merchant services. Problem solved.

Yeah, that way the merchants can get the funds in fiat straight away. OPs option seems to be unnecessarily complicating the process.
18379  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is the growing list of altcoins diluting them altogether? on: December 27, 2013, 08:07:28 PM
I've been keeping my eye on some of these altcoins. Some of them trade higher than others, but some keep steady. Overall, there are more and more of them coming out and I'm not sure if they're helping the overall cause or diluting the idea of altcoins.

What makes a good altcoin? Like anything else it needs to have a perceived value. There are a ton of altcoins out there and I'm wondering if it's marketing that makes them known. For example: Dogecoin. It's cute. It has a meme. Will anyone really use it after the meme has faded?

No they wont. They'll just move on to the next flash-in-the-pan coin.

In my opinion, a good alt needs to have some merchants willing to accept it. Otherwise it'll just die off.
18380  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What're you opinions on Catcoin? on: December 27, 2013, 08:04:33 PM
Seems like Catcoin is a pretty popular new coin.  It goes along with the Dogecoin meme-theme.  Catcoin hasn't been added to any exchanges yet.  Do you think it will be a success?

Depends on what is your definition of success is?
