Can someone please tell me if I'm doing this right? I purchased some HBN on cryptsy and transferred them to my local wallet client where they have been sitting there. I leave my wallet client open and synced 24/7. Is this the proper way that I can earn Stake?

you don't have to keep it on all the time. close the wallet and open it again in 10+ days, you'll have a nice surprize  Wink

I read somewhere that you have a better chance with stake when you leave the wallet open. Is this not correct?

idk, i opened my wallet @ day #10, (i have less than 1k HOBOs), there was a small stake that yeilded up 3HBN.

Does it help to have the wallet on a computer with a faster cpu?

i would say it does, as there was some noticeable activity on my 3core, though if i wasn't looking for it i might not have noticed it  Wink

Why do you use that?

i like the way it blocks many ads + unfriendly sites - another layer of protection Smiley

Well, thanks OnkelPaul for mentioning the hosts file! had a look at it and sho'nuff bitcointalk was there. a simple # and it's working fine again. (so far  Roll Eyes)
i use hostsman, and use all the available update sources, so i guess someone has our forum listed in there, incase staff wants to do something about it.
changing the dns server was not helpful
thanks again all

if you can get it work post your cmd line. You will get help

I'm using GuiMiner. Someone suggested that I try use stratum, but on trying setting it up as I saw in a forum post, I couldn't get even known working pools to work. I assume I'm doing something wrong.

I used this .bat file on a known working pool for NyanCoin;

mining_proxy.exe -o nyan.pool.mn -p 3334 -pa scrypt -o stratum+tcp://nyan.pool.mn

I"ve never used mining proxy but try this link on the forums

are you using windows? i had very similar troubles at first, i think it was a driver/amd sdk issue. i am in linux atm so i can't easily check to see what up in my win7, (multiboot comp) (but i am rebooting soon, will update), maenwhile, i found this i think in the litecoin fora, maybe it will help you...

Also, use sgminer and try the Cat. 13.4 driver pack / 2.9 SDK combo first.

1848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining LTC and DOGE in one PC? on: February 03, 2014, 01:12:36 AM

yep, and yes or no  Smiley

aim the gpu at ltc, cpu at doge, minimal, if any effect on each other, slight (maybe not so sight - prob abt 30%) increase in electricity cost

and then ofcourse there's the posibility of multiple instances of whatever miner you're using, hashrate is divided by # of instances, possible negative effects on hardware? idk!

Yes, the users that had the auto-payment feature on and those that did a manual withdrawal got the coins.

The pool paid out about 600 million, but it's short about 10% (i.e. it paid 10% too much).

well, that would be me, i guess past experiences have tought me a few things. so let us know the final tally, i for one will gladly return a percentage  Wink
1850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Building 2nd rig, home electricity limits. A transformer?? BOUNTY=0.02BTC on: February 01, 2014, 04:40:03 PM
That 1800 watt load for one rig is the maximum you should run on one 120vac circuit, if you have two 120v ac circuits from the breaker box then just run each rig on a separate circuit.

I mentioned explicitly that I don't want to use it on the 2nd circuit at my home because of those outlets are at kitchen.

you need a separate circuit for each rig, hire a electrician to run a new circuit to where you need it.

make it a 220v circuit while you're at it - most if not all psu's will like that (run cooler, more stable) and consume only 1/2 the amperage used on a 120v line  Smiley
1851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gpu not recognised on: February 01, 2014, 11:12:45 AM

any ideas would be appreciated, haw can i get linuxmint to see the 5670?
1852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / gpu not recognised on: January 31, 2014, 09:02:12 PM
long story short:  i've an asus hd raedon 5670 + an r9-280x in a box under linuxmint, had the 5670 for a while, the r9 is new. i multiboot w win7 and xp

prior to installing the r9, the asus is reliable @ ~88 khps in both win and lin
added the r9,  had both working well in linuxmint, later set it up in win 7 too, everything working ok.
on next reboot to linuxmint, the 5670 is not recognized, there is an error message about open cl and devices, and a warning they do not match, then cgminer continues w/only the r9 as cpu 0
later i try adding to the startup string:
Code:
--gpu-map 1:0,2:1
and some other variables, but it is no help.  ideas???
meanwhile, if i reboot to win7, everything is groovy w/2GPUs

I am having a lot of trouble running the 1.4 wallet with minting.  I am running windows 7 and if I unlock it for minting it goes to non responsive.... Any ideas?

having same trouble, mostly when another running wallet grabs the focus. try: task manager>processes tab>sort by name, right click [grain]>set priority>DO NOT USE REALTIME   Grin

usually works for me, the realtime setting freezez my comp.  Wink
1854  Other / Meta / Re: what did my browser eat? on: January 27, 2014, 04:34:37 PM

he used to have a stupid button underneath him that said "I understand the risks" and you could click it and proceed, but that option seems to have vanished, wtf..

Thanks to my suggestion, they implemented HSTS.
That tells the browser that a secure connection is required always.

That is why there is no button, you must have a secure connection.

thanks to you good sir
1855  Other / Meta / Re: what did my browser eat? on: January 27, 2014, 03:56:38 PM

thanks for the responses, i'm glad to say i use mostly linuxmint! i'll try changing the dns server next reboot, (it'll prolly not stay changed tho, i think) then maybe scan from win xp ...

tho most likely i'll end up reformatting, then repairing grub. glad i keep my OS partitions small, and data elsewhere  Smiley     thanks again!
1856  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig powers off on: January 27, 2014, 03:28:19 PM

ok, i spoke to jeff@Visiontek, he says that both cables are required for the card to operate.
my psu has single 6+2 plugs @ cable ends and i have 2 cables connected, so it would seem that's right and i will have to look elsewhere for my temperature issue
thanks for letting me hang out  Wink
1857  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig powers off on: January 27, 2014, 11:31:52 AM
 thankyou for the reply mitsanga
i'm troubled, i just bought the r9280x, used 2 cables to hook up aux power input  (and it is running hot)
on the CD that came with the unit, there were several manuals, but all are for hd 5xxx-7xxx series units. looking to the visiontek site, there also is no man for the R9. here is a screencap from the HD_7900 man:

it is 06:30 here, i will call visiontek in abt 4 hrs when they get to work, and let y'all know then wassup with this  Wink

1858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig powers off on: January 27, 2014, 09:25:54 AM
I had a similar issue with my new 290x 4gb sapphire. turns out i was making a newb mistake and was plugging the 8pin and 6pin power cables in wrong. I was trying to spread the load out across the psu's cords.... bad idea i guess. make sure your not doing this and have the whole gpu on one cord and not two like i did. Hope it helps.

what is the right way? 8 or 6?
1859  Other / Meta / [SOLVED] what did my browser eat? on: January 26, 2014, 09:13:29 PM
something not very good, i fear - where did that stupid cop come from anyway?  (scroll down please)

he used to have a stupid button underneath him that said "I understand the risks" and you could click it and proceed, but that option seems to have vanished, wtf..

is it a b.h.o.? malware? idk but its gotta go, it's in firefox and chrome on my tower pc running win7 (multi-boot w/linuxmint and win xp, the problem only exists in win 7)
recently, i've just been uninstalling and re-installing browsers, gets me around for a day or two, but it creeps back in somehow, can anyone help? thanks!

1860  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many newbies are mining? on: January 25, 2014, 04:27:52 PM
finally got my first 280x running ...720khs avg

gotta setup the other 3 280x

would you mind sharing your settings? i can only get ~670 khps in linux, ~570 khps/windoz (visiontek r-280x) though i think it might be the PCIEx16 slots/mobo i have are kinda old - they are v.2.0....
