Actually it really doesn't seem shady at all. It's probably not intentional, and I can understand why someone would be annoyed by it, which explains why they apologized and gave you the bonus. They have daily roll hunts with 0 wager required, tons of weekly promotions that require 5 and 10 cent minimum bets, all the bonuses that the whales get the are based directly on how much they wager.
