Which one is the real coin now?
I don't know.
What I know, however, is that supporters of the original ethcoin can attack the hf ethcoin in a court of law.

You misunderstood.

The hacker-thief-supporters which are not the majority, but seemingly a tiny tiny minority paying to look bigger.

You misunderstood.

The "hacker-thief" showed how vulnerable is eth protocol. He deserves award much bigger than $60M! Instead of  getting award this person was robbed by hf. Who will trust eth-hf-coin now?

Bitcoin is about a year into a scaling debate, without any reasonable solution shipped. Will be a big moment to watch how the two compare.

Big if though....they haven't done it yet. I'd give them an 80% chance of success I think.

If ethereum pulls off this hard fork, very positive signal for them as a team. Shows they can listen to community, execute in time of crisis

This guy is just pretending that everything is fine with the hard fork. How can he be fine with tweaking and tinkering with the transaction history? Is Brian Armstrong a big investor in the DAO?
Sounds like he is very big and very scared investor.
1905  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 18, 2016, 10:35:11 AM

Ahh nothing like beating a dead horse.  Buy some mining hw if you disagree with the fork. And let's see who comes out on top.  Then you will have your trial by jury(consensus) as to whether it was theft or not.  But this argument is just dead in the water.  Like with any banking system if you find an exploit and decide to pull 60$M out and think it's ok because of a loophole your grossly naive.  Those in favor of the theft need a recalibration of your moral compass!

Best regards
D57heinz
Ah, I see. The masses feel they are exploited. They vote to confiscate 60$M because they are convinced 60$M is too much wealth for a single person. It is not honest some people to be so poor while other be so rich. Nothing new under the sun. "Expropriation of the Expropriators!" or "Loot the Looters!"

Eth is not a cryptocoin. Eth is a cleptocoin.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-07-17/us-warships-surround-disputed-chinese-waters-prepared-war-wwiii-stake

Chinese-US military tensions usually lead to some smoke in the financial markets ... currency devaluations, sovereign loan dumps, central bank interventions, etc.
Looks like US started war on two fronts - in Europe with Russia and in Asia with China. We all know from history how starting a war on two fronts ends up for the invader.

Working within the system I have finally come to realize the reality of how the US military works.

The high ranking officers in whichever duty locations want to accomplish something during their time there. They want soldiers underneath them to help them accomplish things. If they have some of their soldiers being redeployed to another location that is higher priority they start getting complaints of not having enough people to achieve their task.

They start pushing their agenda to the right people to make it known that their mission is every bit, if not more important than those other locations. They pressure the media and give out information about how the enemy in their location is "such a threat". They want the world to focus on their location so they can get more funding/soldiers/power. So there is this constant barrage of information about threats to various areas that tend to be a bit blown up to serve the needs of our military.

If the US military was not all over the world, it is likely that these so-called "threats" would never make it to the national news. They might make it to local media and newspapers. And they are not really actual threats to the United States.

TIL,  Elwar is a CIA agent...  WWOOOwww Shocked Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
CIA is just one of the 17 security agencies US have. Actually 50% of the work force in the US is working for the US government, US military, or for the military industrial complex that entirely depends on government funds. This explains why US is jumping from one war to another since WWII. This structure of the US economy is a big concern for the rest of the world. US establishment has basically two options - either keep starting bigger and bigger wars to support current state of economy or honestly tell average Joe and Mary that their standard of living will drop significantly if economy is allowed to correct itself. The latter is almost unthinkable. That is why we are where we are. Lets hope people with brains will prevail before it is too late.

The legalities in the cryptosphere is in the gray area at best. The attacker can argue that the exploit he did was all in the rules of the DAO and there that no theft took place. And in the side of Vitalik, they should have done a better job with the security audits. How can you store 150 million dollars worth of ether in the DAO and thinking that no one will try to attack it? That is very incompetent of them.

If there is a fault in any computer code and someone uses it to enrich themselves it is theft.

That is right. For example, your house door is locked, somebody breaks into it, and claims it is legal because your lock is not strong enough.
No. For example, you invited someone to your house at time of their convenience. Now after this person is in your house you claim it is illegal because house door was locked but the lock was not strong enough. The person you invited claims your house door wasn't locked at all.

That is why I stick to Bitcoin where code is the law!

Yes I have noticed there is already a wave of buying going on right now. It looks like the people are having confidence in buying again.
Those are the losers.
It is obvious now that profiting from a smart contract on the eth network is a risky business as it will be hardforked if the majority of losers decide you're too profitable.

I doubt that a hard fork will just happen because people think it is too profitable.
It is happening right in front of our eyes. Majority of losers voted to confiscate the wealth of a single person because smart contract he signed on ethereum network is too profitable.
becoin, some would disagree , majority voted to hf because someone violated spirit of the DAO. It was an act that was not in the best interest of a majority of DAO holders. Therefore they wont let it stand. Again, "hacker" knows more about workings of DAO than most people ( at most 500 people worldwide could've accomplished DAO hack...probably less) He/she/they knew they would never be able to use those DAO tokens and therefore simultaneously opened massive short positions of bitfinex. That's where profit was made
You have signed a contract with someone more knowledgeable than you. When you understood this fact and that it will result in a loss you start complaining this person violated not the contract but the spirit of the contract... Every gambler can say that when they lose money.

BTC died many times to become stronger...ETH might have to do the same.
We have heard so many times from you how ETH is different from BTC. Now you say ETH is just like BTC. Why this change?

He did not say the Ethereum is the same as bitcoin. He just say the Etherum will survive the crisis like bitcoin did in the past.
It is a stupid statement. How will ethereum survive just like bitcoin did if it has weaknesses that bitcoin doesn't have?

China produces 80% of comps and phones but you still use them everyday.

Why anyone holding a non-monetary asset, for no other reason than they think it will hold its value, is NOT a speculator?

Sorry. yes - you are right. Someone who holds a non-monetary asset, for no other reason than they think it will hold its value IS a speculator.

Of course. But there is more than that. Anyone who holds a pure monetary asset, for no other reason than they think it will hold its value, is NOT a speculator!

People that hold for that purpose non-monetary value are creating asset bubbles which distort price signals in economy. That is why they ARE speculators. People that hold pure monetary value make those asset bubbles burst thus help economy correct and heal itself. That is why they are NOT speculators. They are savers!
