I think nothing has damaged the SEC's reputation as badly as this whole crypto-security-or-not situation.
Remember that Gensler is just a face for the SEC, but it's not like he's solely responsible for the lack of clear policies. There's something deeper going on there for sure.
I think they're just trying to assess the implications of deciding either way. But I won't be surprised if they throw Gensler under a bus eventually to try to regain credibility.

Meanwhile, a Coinbase finally lost their patience and decided to sue SEC in hopes to get the court to force SEC to give Coinbase a clear answer to their petition (after being ignored for months).
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/04/24/coinbase-sues-sec-after-months-of-silence-from-federal-regulator.html
The SEC rejected the petition of the Coinbase exchange, and what will the exchange achieve from the court's decision?
SEC will provide a formal answer, in which there will be no clear information. This won't stop the SEC from terrorizing other crypto exchanges.
If there are no changes, then the SEC policy is correct.

I used to read PlanB forecasts, but now it looks like a scenario for trapping new hamsters.
Even if the price drops to $15,000 in the coming months, it will not be noticeable on his chart.

One option to consider is to store stablecoins in a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor. These wallets offer a high level of security and protect your coins from potential hacks and cyber attacks. It is important to make sure that the hardware wallet supports the specific stablecoin you are looking to store.
It is difficult to name which hardware wallets do not support USDC or USDT. Another problem is that your tokens may be blocked or you may be required to go through the KUS procedure at any time in order to continue using the tokens.
I advise everyone to study this

People, stay away from this memcoin crap. There is one rule at the poker table that must be observed when investing in such tokens. The rule says: "If you do not understand who is the sucker here, then you are the sucker." I wrote several articles about similar memcoins a year or two ago, and now I don’t even remember their name. You can invest if you really have information or competent analytics that will help you make money.
1925  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Quarterly estimated taxes For Bitcoin in the US on: May 05, 2023, 03:20:18 PM
Are you shure that there is even the need to declare such low profits? Usually there are some amounts that can not be declared since it is more effort for the tax agency to calculate the tax then what they will actually earn from it. Usually it is helpful to just call the tax agency since they can tel, you in one sentence what you are supposed to do.
You are required to declare any profit, if it is written in the law. There are licensed accountants in the US and companies that do it for you. The tax office may not check your declarations. I listened to stories from people that they have not been called to the tax office for more than 15 years, and the period of verification is limited to 3 or 5 years, I don’t remember. But for so long, people are required to keep supporting documents. Therefore, declaring small profits can be a good expense for the taxpayer if he uses intermediaries, but not for the tax.
1926  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: FBI disrupts 9 crypto exchanges used to facilitate criminal activities on: May 05, 2023, 03:13:05 PM
This is a drop in the sea. Before the whole situation in Ukraine, there were a lot of call centers that deceived people and engaged in fraud. They did not violate the laws of Ukraine and deceived the citizens of Russia and neighboring states. This business served many people who cashed out money, couriers, exchange services and so on.
This happens in most of the countries.  Maybe not call centers.  But there are many scams, they just play different strategies and try out different methods.  Unfortunately there will always be groups of people who try to do harm.

-----

This information makes me wonder.  How much distance is there between disrupting 9 Cryptocurrency Exchanges facilitating criminal activity and trying to ban or restrict the use of Decentralized services for the same reason or excuse.  I am all for making things right and fair and if an Exchange was engaging in criminal activity, so be it.  But if we put every piece of the puzzle together and add up all the articles where they seize Chip Mixer, disrupt Cryptocurrency Exchanges .. this can easily become a precedent and they would be just a step away from starting to throw arrows toward the more Decentralized services as well.

It seems by the way they formulate things they keep underlining lack of Know Your Customer and Anti Money Laundering procedures.  Now, US is known for being strongly against lack of the two and if they say these Exchanges knowingly allowed criminals on their Exchange and even supported them, they deserve a takedown.

You know what would be interesting.  Can any body find any of these Exchanges actively supporting crime on 'forums dedicated to criminal activity' which I suppose are bl### hat forums?

There are a lot of blackhat forums that this exchanges could be promoting and that's why majority of us haven't heard of it. And I think this is not the first time that government agencies has this so called disrupt this crypto exchanges that harbor criminals and yet its a cat and mouse game.

Maybe the moment that they have been caught and reported, it will be like mushrooms wherein another one will pop up to cater to this criminals and then promoted to this blackhat forums. So we will see how Urkaine or US or any other countries can step up and fight this kind of illicit activities and exchange being used as facilitator.
Of course, I don’t know how such exchangers work in the USA, but my friends say that in the southern states of the USA there are no problems exchanging cryptocurrency for fiat, and even more so in Mexico.
If no one was detained, then in a few days or hours new sites will appear. I gave above a link to a site where you can find thousands of such exchangers.

Hey everyone, I have some pepe on coinbase wallet, but it won't let me just sell the pepe for money. I tried just swapping the pepe for another coin, but even then, it wants to charge half my profit worth of gas fees. Any suggestions?
Do you trade PEPE token on decentralized exchanges like Uniswap and 1 inch?
The commission on the efmirium network is now high, and nothing can be done about it. I have a minimum transaction amount of 3-5 thousand dollars to recoup the commission and earn some money.

I just looked until I could find a way to get some pepe. I ended up using uniswap through the coinbase wallet's explorer, and even trying to swap the pepe back to eth or something still has a really high gas fee
This is the minus of decentralized trade. Today, commissions are even more expensive. I checked, the 1 inch exchanger does not work. Fusion mod does not work for trading pepe tokens.
The price of the token has already increased 3 times, I hope you have enough to pay the commission.

The good news is that Coinbase is looking into other markets as well.
Introducing Coinbase International Exchange
https://www.coinbase.com/blog/introducing-coinbase-international-exchange
"At Coinbase, we’re working hard to help update the financial system by building trusted products that expand the utility and adoption of crypto because we believe crypto and blockchain technology have the ability to increase economic freedom and opportunity around the world. Coinbase chose to become a public company in the US because we believe the US would best be served by embracing this fundamental innovation, but we’re also focused on international markets, many of which are moving forward with strategies to become “crypto hubs.”"

If you are a billionaire, then I can name you some coins to invest in so that you will become a millionaire in 5 years. I will give you a 99.9999% guarantee.
And if you want to get rich and you have little capital, then you need to take risks and study many projects that are in the ranking below the TOP 100.

In most part of Africa hardware wallets are not only difficult but expensive to get apart form using custodian wallets like trust wallet and metamask is there an alternative software that can help hodl Bitcoin in a flash drive. or otherwise
If the amounts are small, then you need to download the mobile version of the Electrum wallet and the Veracrypt program.
Your encrypted container can be disguised on a USB flash drive as any file that you save on a few. It's safe if your computer is free of viruses, but it's fast and convenient.

I think that there is not a single crypto-exchange in the world to which criminals did not transfer their coins. According to one analyst, there are a lot of intelligence agencies in the United States, more than 20, and they also have reporting on their activities and funding. Therefore, any exchanger can be held liable under similar articles of the law. It will be necessary to master more than 1 billion of the budget for the fight against these exchangers, everyone will only benefit from this.
1934  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Gemini vs Digital Currency Group on: May 04, 2023, 09:33:25 PM

This is going to long and messy. There is so much fraud and so many things intertwined that you have to start to wonder if it would just be easier to take everything from everyplace that was involved and just liquidate it all and give back whatever you get to the people who it's owed to.

The 'take off and nuke it from orbit' theory. Yes, you might get $2 billion more going through everything line by line but if it takes 4 years and $3 billion to do it did you really accomplish anything?

-Dave

If it is very simple to explain, then all these financial schemes are planned by very smart people in order to eventually bankrupt some companies and not return the money to investors. Part of the money will be returned, but no one forced investors to carry their money by force and they understood the risks.

It's good that this kind of websites are being taken down, but we all know that this is just the beginning. Maybe next week this operators are going to open up a new website to cater for their customers. So it's going to be a ongoing battle between the bad actors against government agencies. Just interesting though that since the war is still ongoing on Ukraine, this criminals business are still thriving.

This is a drop in the sea. Before the whole situation in Ukraine, there were a lot of call centers that deceived people and engaged in fraud. I'm with the I never heard of any of these group of people.
Has anyone had ANY experience with them be it good or bad?

Since the Ukrainian police were mentioned I can only assume that they were operating out of that part of the world.

I may have dealt with these services. There are thousands of such services in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, and no one asks for documents. Such exchanges do not store personal data, only a bank card number and transaction data, maybe even an email. Basically, this is a set of useless information, because the criminal uses bank cards and wallets of other people.
1938  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New world order or CBDC against cryptocurrencies on: May 03, 2023, 10:37:50 PM
The digital nature of such a currency would mean that governments would have complete control over it, which some people consider a form of monetary slavery.  This view suggests that such a currency would not maintain its value over time.BTC
https://thefinanceopedia.com/
 BTC

This is true and this is exactly what they want. Any currency they can print without real counter value in a hard asset like precious metals, is destined to go bankrupt. History is very clear about this and there are 0 exceptions. We are now at a point in time when the entire global monetary system is about to go bankrupt, and end in hyperinflation.

2023 is very similar to the 1930's. There was high inflation (look up Weimar inflation of Germany) and there was a global conflict between rising powers, leading to WWII in 1940. After this war in 1945, the financial rules were set with the US dollar as the reserve currency and the USA setting the rules for global finance. That system is totally bankrupt now.

The history of WWII is repeating itself right now.
There is a shift in global dominance and that is what this Ukraine war is really about. USA + its NATO allies are bankrupt and it seems to me that bankers will use the war as an excuse when the entire banking system goes down. There is no other way to justify to people why they will own nothing and why their currencies are worthless.

The nazi's have confiscated all of people's assets in WWII and this is exactly what Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum (By 2030 you will own nothing, but you will be happy) is planning for us now.

CBDC's are simply the new plan to kick the can down the road, build up debt for decades, inflate the currency until it eventually becomes worthless and steal peoples assets when they can no longer pay off their possessions due to inflated currency.
Not only that. With CBDC's being completely digital, the government now has full control over your account. They can close your account with 1 click. They know exactly what you own. They can and they will impose rules such as "you have to spend this money before this time, or we will impose a tax.."

CBDC's are monetary slavery, and it is just a matter of time before the government will start advertising them to people.

The promotion of CBDCs has already begun in many countries, including the jam-dex in Jamaica (as well as the e-naira in Nigeria), insisting that a cashless society is so much better. Moreover, for decades now, governments, in agreement with banks, have been trying to persuade citizens that cash is not practical (and that it can even be a vector of viruses...).
The states maintain the confusion between CBDC and bitcoin, when of course there is nothing comparable.

It is obvious that the progressive introduction of CBDCs is only a tool to control citizens. Fortunately, we can see that Nigerians are not very inclined to adopt it and that they largely prefer bitcoin, despite its ban.

It is already clear that CBDC will be launched this year in many countries and it is useless to fight it. The only option that has not yet been banned is fiat. But regulators have already begun to fight with cash in the US and Europe. In other countries, there is no great resistance, which means that the noose around the citizen's neck will be tightened slowly.

https://www.coindesk.com/business/2023/04/28/crypto-tax-plan-could-come-in-12-ish-months-says-irs-official/
" The U.S. Internal Revenue Service hopes to issue crypto tax guidance ready in "12-ish" months, Julie Foerster said from the stage at Consensus 2023 on Friday.
The digital assets project director also said the IRS is planning to change how it looks at cryptocurrency and wants to work more with the industry.
Foerster, who stressed her views are her own and not necessarily those of the IRS, said her five-person team was with her at Consensus, presumably moving through the convention center, talking to people about taxes and what the U.S. agency can do better."

https://blockchain.news/news/coinme-fined-4-million-by-sec
"The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has fined Coinme, a cryptocurrency exchange, nearly $4 million for allegedly offering unregistered securities and making "misleading statements" about its crypto token, UpToken. Coinme, its subsidiary Up Global SEZC, and its CEO, Neil Bergquist, were charged by the SEC on April 28, with Up Global agreeing to pay a $3.52 million penalty, for which Coinme was also held liable. The SEC alleged that Coinme's Initial Coin Offering (ICO) of UpToken between October and December 2017 was an investment contract under the Howey test and was an unregistered securities offering. The ICO raised around $3.6 million to expand Coinme's fleet of Bitcoin ATMs, with the funds used to add 30 ATMs, and UP holders received benefits such as discounted fees and cashback when using the ATMs. However, in January 2019, Coinme changed its offering and partnered with Coinstar to use its cash-counting kiosks to facilitate cash-to-crypto transactions instead of its own ATMs. Coinme shut down all of its ATMs by July 2019, and there is currently no use for UpToken, with its market cap falling to around $50,000 and 24-hour trading volumes topping just over $180."

This exchange got off with a small fine.
