In Russia, too, various commissions of specialists were created for several years to prepare the law, and a draft law was written, which later became of no use to anyone.
You can use the practice of Hong Kong, you can use the practice of European MIKA law, but I wonder how the law will be written in accordance with Sharia law.

The investigation seeks to determine facts that would inform US policy on China, per the Journal."
So, If I get this right, congress claims that Blackrock is sharing confidential data with their China partners which might worsen the US-China relationship even further. That is some serious allegations. Although I'm sure Blackrock will just get away by paying some fine and then continue their business as usual.
Relations between the US and China are not the best, because they are competitors. The USA concentrates on its territory the best technological productions and entices manufacturers from Europe. In the long run, China will win because their system of governance is better, although not at all democratic.

More globally, Blackrock owns a huge number of companies that invest in bitcoin and other cryptocurrency projects. So why is this happening right now, when cryptocurrency legislation is beginning to take shape in the US?
I think that everything here is much more complicated than the formal accusations of investing in Chinese companies.
Yes, it is very interesting. As soon as I read the title, I immediately thought, Why now? What irony!!!

This is really laughable, the actions of the US government often seem childish, Blackrock is a giant company with a long history of investment, but the government did not discover that the company was "facilitating investments in Chinese companies" until now!!! After Blackrock decided to invest in Bitcoin??!!! Come on man!!!

It seems clear that they want to cause trouble for the company just because it decided to invest in Bitcoin, perhaps it is a message to the company that they should reverse their decision.
The legal case between the Securities and Exchange Commission and Ripple lasted more than 2 years, and how long will such a process with BlackRock last? As far as I know, this company does not make direct investments, but creates various funds that then make investments. And the companies that BlackRock has invested in have been seen to promote the development of other cryptocurrencies, not just bitcoin.
1327  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US Supreme Court Ruled in Favor of Coinbase on: August 04, 2023, 11:12:48 AM
@zasad@. However, there might be a problem with that definition because uncle Gary can declare any project that has issued a token a fraud and a ponzi scheme. Ethereum, Uniswap, Sushiswap, Curve, Convex and many projects in DeFi issued a token but they never scammed the buyers. Is it right for Gary Gensler to crackdown on them because for the old holders of those coins to profit, new buyers must come in?

I reckon that you are one of the people in this forum who knows that a project that has issued a token should not be automatically declared a ponzi scheme.
I don’t understand why you compare cryptocurrency projects with a Ponzi scheme. Projects like StepN are like a Ponzi scheme, but there are a lot of legal issues.
The SEC is fighting the illegal sale of shares, and the main question now is which token is a share and which token is not a share. There is a court practice that says that the company will pay fines and penalties from the amount received at the ICO. For projects like Ethereum, this is a ridiculous amount, but it is not certain that the SEC will sue Ethereum.

Shiba Inu Takes Step to Become DeFi Contender, Will Add Digital IDs to Ecosystem Projects
"Digital identity verification will be a part of all Shiba Inu developments in the future, including on the upcoming Shibarium layer 2 blockchain.
Shiba Inu developers will tie digital identity services to all platform applications in hopes to strengthen the project's image among users and governments.
Such steps could fuel demand for SHIB tokens as the project is viewed more legitimately by serious investors."
1329  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: De-Fi Regulation on: August 04, 2023, 11:00:12 AM
I doubt there is any way to implement KYC on decentralized exchange like Uniswap but definitely possible to implement on projects because it happened in the era of ICO and defi is just the similar version of it I mean those defi projects which are mostly relying on the ethereum network which switched to PoS already so the decentralization is already a big question when it comes to Dapps so it can be added to the list as well.

Why I feel it is not possible to implement on exchanges because it doesn't operate under any countries guidelines since its completely the trades are actually peer to peer based on smart contracts unlike the traditional exchanges so if governments wants to regulate then they need to restructure their entire regulations.
This is very easy to do on uniswap if there is legislation, but so far there is none. The MICA law in Europe does not regulate the DeFi sector at all and in the US also only bills, but this issue will most likely be resolved in a few years either by introducing whitelists or by introducing digital identifiers. And the laws of other countries will not contradict the rules of the USA and Europe.
1330  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Worldcoin launch with ORB to scan your eyes on: August 03, 2023, 12:14:03 PM
Well I was surprised to hear about this news. Worldcoin has said that it has 2.2 Million users that have signed up so far in past 2 years. And now Britain, France, and Germany are even going to look in to it.

I do not believe this many people are doing this. They are giving up their identity to we dont even know who. It would be better if all those people bought Bitcoin instead of scan their eyes.
Does your country take a biometric photo when issuing a passport? When crossing the border, there are constantly automatic check-in desks for tourists, where a biometric photo is taken and the passport data is checked.
If you are applying for a visa to other countries, then you will have a biometric photo taken and a fingerprint taken. Do you think this is not enough to identify you?
1331  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TRON is bad coin, here is why on: August 03, 2023, 12:05:56 PM
Maybe you know already: we have good coin and we have bad coin. While Bitcoin is very good coin, TRON is bad coin and here is why:

- TRON didn't achieve any additional technological advance compared to existing coin
- TRON is only launched because Justin Sun hates Vitalik Buterin and Ethereum
- Justin Sun failed to compete against Ethereum. Ethereum is much better, has much better technology and better developers
- Justin Sun just SHILLS his shitcoin TRON instead of implementing a better technology

Everyone should know, how fraudulent TRON really is.
Avoid bad coin like TRON.
Justin Sun copied the idea from Vitalik Buterin, but his ecosystem allows you to make transfers without commission if you have a certain number of coins staked. Many do not know, but Bandwidth and Energy can be delegated to another user for free transactions, but there is no such thing in Ethereum, so there are a lot of stablecoin transactions in the Tron ecosystem.

What made you go through the KYC procedure?
There are a lot of scammers in the cryptocurrency sector in the US, Canada and Europe, although many users think that these countries are safe and there are fewer scammers there.
In order not to be deceived, you need to wait for the company to prove itself in the market and earn a reputation, so that it would not be profitable for it to disappear with money or user data.
You said it rightly. Haven verified that the company was based in UK, I had some level of believe in the project. I had thought that SEC was effective and hard on them. It was based on this believe of mine that I went deep into the project and in the end I lost much. The reason I completed KYC was this; KYC was not said to be a prerequisite, but when they claim the bond is matured, I was then forced to complete KYC as a compulsory requirement for the investment exit.
I had acquaintances who opened companies in the UK, but they had never been to this country. Maybe now there are more serious requirements for the opening of firms, but for a long time I do not believe that in these countries the interests of non-citizens will be protected. If I want to invest in companies, then it is better to use the stock market, where there is very tight control.

And this is interesting. Who decided to start an investigation into the activities of the largest financial giant in the world?

Lol, AOL?

The only Bitcoin-related thing in this topic is Blackrock being invested in Bitcoin. But that has nothing to do with the news headline.

I have no idea whether Blackrock is going to get charged for facilitating Chinese investments, but even so, I fail to see how exactly it will have an effect on Bitcoin. Worst case, they are forced to pay a fine that they can easily afford without having to sell their Bitcoin. So there is no point in panicking about this having an effect on Bitcoin. So unless this has some effect on Bitcoin, I don't think this topic is worth discussing.

More globally, Blackrock owns a huge number of companies that invest in bitcoin and other cryptocurrency projects. So why is this happening right now, when cryptocurrency legislation is beginning to take shape in the US?

user210822,pawel7777 If it is very simple to explain, then try to understand what the Binance exchange has been doing in recent years in the US and European countries.
Binance created firms such as Binance US, but in reality the exchange was not very interested in where their customers came from and gave everyone the opportunity to trade on their main exchange with huge liquidity. The laws were observed formally and this is a big slap in the face of financial regulators. Binance obtains licenses in other countries, and all of its clients will work there, but through other jurisdictions.
1335  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US Supreme Court Ruled in Favor of Coinbase on: August 03, 2023, 11:28:36 AM
....

The SEC and several states argue that the product constitutes a unregistered security offering. Coinbase claims staking is not a security, maintaining that it is a "core part of ensuring the cryptoeconomy functions for hundreds of millions of users around the globe."

Calling staked coins "a security" might be considered an extreme compliment. Most POS tokens/coins are really just glorified Ponzi schemes, if we are really honest, is this correct or not?

The ponzi scheme works differently. There, old users make a profit at the expense of attracted money from new users. If ecosystem tokens are used and have value, then this is no longer a ponzi scheme. And staking is also different, you can create your own node and maintain the network to get a reward for it.

___
SEC asked Coinbase to halt trading in everything except bitcoin, CEO says
Request would have meant ‘the end of the crypto industry in the US’, according to Brian Armstrong
https://www.ft.com/content/1f873dd5-df8f-4cfc-bb21-ef83ed11fb4d

In the cryptospace, calling some type of coin or token a ponzi scheme would open an argument that other coins and tokens of a different type might also be ponzi schemes. This is reality.

Also to take the argument further, from a ponzi's definition, assets of any type traded in markets also of any type can also be considered ponzi schemes, including bitcoin, stocks and futures. For older investors to make money, new money should enter the market.

https://www.sec.gov/spotlight/enf-actions-ponzi.shtml
"SEC Enforcement Actions Against Ponzi Schemes
What Is A Ponzi Scheme?
A Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors. Ponzi scheme organizers often solicit new investors by promising to invest funds in opportunities claimed to generate high returns with little or no risk. With little or no legitimate earnings, Ponzi schemes require a constant flow of money from new investors to continue. Ponzi schemes inevitably collapse, most often when it becomes difficult to recruit new investors or when a large number of investors ask for their funds to be returned."
__
Just because every project wants to hype doesn't mean it's a new Ponzi scheme. I prefer to use the SEC clarification, where everything is clear and examples of such schemes are given.

Binance's Activities Are Illegal in Nigeria, Securities Regulator Says
The regulator also ordered all crypto platform providers to stop reaching out to Nigerian investors.

"The Commission again reiterates that the activities of Binance, https://www.binance.com and any such other platform through which the Company solicits investors is neither registered nor regulated by the Commission and its operations in Nigeria are therefore illegal. Any member of the investing public dealing with the entity, making such solicitation is doing so at his/her own risk."

WORLDCOIN PROTOCOL SECURITY AUDIT REPORTS
https://worldcoin.org/blog/worldcoin/worldcoin-protocol-security-audit-reports
"Beginning in April 2023, audit firms Nethermind and Least Authority conducted two separate security audits of the Worldcoin protocol.
Nethermind focused on an audit of the protocol’s smart contracts, which include the World ID contracts, the World ID state bridge, the World ID example airdrop contracts, the Worldcoin tokens (WLD) grants contracts, along with the WLD ERC-20 token contract and its associated vesting wallet. Of the 26 items surfaced during this security assessment, 92.6% (24) were identified as fixed after the verification stage, while one was mitigated and the remaining one was acknowledged."

Here the problem is more in the legislation, and if something is tokenized, then most likely there will be additional protection methods that will not allow selling tokens from any wallet.
I do recall one of the projects asked me to fill out a KYC form and provide an ID plus wallet address to claim the tokenized assets. If you don't live in the US or Europe it is difficult to claim the tokens, and you literally have no one to rely on if you want to file a claim against them if your country doesn't even allow tokens and stuff like that. I don't think this thing will become mainstream in the near future for countries in Asia.
I had similar experience and they later ran away. I completed KYC, provided wallet address and also had to download and fill some documents which looked real. I had to even sign the whole document and even made  signatory. I was told I must have someone who will represent me in Europe for physical completion of documentation.  But within a short while they vanished.
What made you go through the KYC procedure?
