1341  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Craig Wright Sanctions Hearing Today on: August 02, 2023, 12:57:58 PM
I read some about Craig on Reddit recently, why hasn't (any) one of the world's finest legal systems put him in jail yet? Even with money troubles, he seems to be able to find decent lawyers. Maybe with the current case his luck will run out, stay tuned...
If one clown is put in jail, another clown will take his place. If he wants to spend millions of money on useless courts, this will lead to his bankruptcy. One should not feel negative towards such people, but I do not want to wish him success. Let him continue to amuse the crypto community with his antics.
1342  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: CBDC in Russia on: August 02, 2023, 12:52:37 PM
I guess they would plan to keep Bitcoin and crypto illegal but promote and legalize the self-developed CBDC so the power still remains with the government and big financial institutions.

How come Bitcoin / Crypto promotes money laundering and this CBDC is anti-money laundering, Ridiculous !!!

I was afraid that the battle of the government against bitcoin and crypto will become intense and probably crypto will now, little did I know that the government is also scared of crypto dominance. They had no option than to invest in the blockchain but in a highly centralized way. The dilemma is tagging crypto illegal and creating a copy of the illegal  and calling it legal.

Now the legal CBDC will fight money laundering. We are watching together.

I wrote about the implementation of CBDC in Nigeria, and now I want to describe this process in Russia in detail
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5440827

The same reason Nigerian CBDC (e-naira) failed. The Nigerian central bank launched their e-naira when crypto transaction was illegal in the country. So the idea didn't sell.
Governments are not afraid of cryptocurrencies. Blockchain is like an open ledger where all transactions are stored. It is not the government that needs to be afraid of cryptocurrencies, but the criminals who use cryptocurrencies need to be afraid of the government, because blockchain analysis technologies work more efficiently every year and allow you to get on the trail of criminals and non-taxpayers.
1343  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US Supreme Court Ruled in Favor of Coinbase on: August 02, 2023, 12:46:32 PM
....

The SEC and several states argue that the product constitutes a unregistered security offering. Coinbase claims staking is not a security, maintaining that it is a "core part of ensuring the cryptoeconomy functions for hundreds of millions of users around the globe."

Calling staked coins "a security" might be considered an extreme compliment. Most POS tokens/coins are really just glorified Ponzi schemes, if we are really honest, is this correct or not?

The ponzi scheme works differently. There, old users make a profit at the expense of attracted money from new users. If ecosystem tokens are used and have value, then this is no longer a ponzi scheme. And staking is also different, you can create your own node and maintain the network to get a reward for it.

Request would have meant ‘the end of the crypto industry in the US’, according to Brian Armstrong

A Rocky Week for zkSync Era: EraLend Security Breach and Kannagi Finance Rug Pull

Kannagi Finance has walked away with $2.4 million worth of users' assets.
The incident is the first rug pull to affect the scaling solution zkSync Era.
It comes off the back of the $3.4 million hack EraLend suffered earlier.

"EraLend Loses $3.4M in Security Breach
On Tuesday, July 25, cyber attackers pilfered a staggering $3.4 million from EraLend, a lending platform operating on the zkSync Era. In the aftermath, the EraLend team promptly halted all activities.

A subsequent update revealed they had pinpointed a potentially involved crypto exchange account. Furthermore, they suspect that the culprits may have utilized a certain VPN provider to obscure their online tracks.

“We’ve pinpointed a suspicious CEX account that appears to be linked to an individual potentially involved in the incident. We are collaborating closely with the local police department, providing them with all relevant information,” said EraLend."

1349  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Buying property with crypto on: July 30, 2023, 11:02:01 AM
Here the problem is more in the legislation, and if something is tokenized, then most likely there will be additional protection methods that will not allow selling tokens from any wallet.
I do recall one of the projects asked me to fill out a KYC form and provide an ID plus wallet address to claim the tokenized assets. If you don't live in the US or Europe it is difficult to claim the tokens, and you literally have no one to rely on if you want to file a claim against them if your country doesn't even allow tokens and stuff like that. I don't think this thing will become mainstream in the near future for countries in Asia.
Russia, Asian countries have always lagged behind the United States by 5-7 years. In the US, some companies use smart contracts and tokens legally, but all transactions go through registration and a centralized personal account. On the one hand, the blockchain acts as a guarantor of the transparency of transactions, but on the other hand, all operations must be done on a centralized service. Of course, such investments are not suitable for everyone.

...

“Binance confirms that it has proactively withdrawn its BaFin application. The situation, both in the global market and regulation, has changed significantly. Binance still intends to apply for appropriate licensing in Germany, but it is essential that our submission accurately reflects these changes.“
What changes we are talking about? Was it about Binance legal opression only or is it wider in the sense of crypto-movement?

Perhaps it was due to the crypto movement, government or regulators might be broadening their rules as to how exchanges should work. Specially that EU is very tough regarding the whole KYC procedure.

Or maybe the way Binance and the rest of crypto exchanges handles the account and the customers money and if it really SAFU. This is just how I see, just my personal opinion as to why Binance has to withdraw and maybe do some reconstruction so that the next time they apply, chances are high for them to get approval.
I have only one explanation. While the Binance exchange is under attack in all countries, and in European countries, all countries are transitioning to the application of the MICA law, and in a year and a half, all countries of the European Union will have uniform legislation. Most likely, the exchange plans to wait out the hard times, working in other countries, and then try again to get a license to work throughout Europe according to the MICA law.
1351  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: CBDC in Russia on: July 30, 2023, 10:43:50 AM
For people to use banking applications, the country needs good internet. You probably have not been to Russia, but even in the western part to the Urals there are a lot of places where there is no Internet, and in Siberia in many places there is not even a mobile connection. This requires huge investments, so as a maximum CBDC can be launched in large cities at the beginning.
So how do they get around this problem? If they want to cover the entire vast Russian territory, they need to spend huge amounts of money to create a suitable infrastructure for using CBDC, and this may take many years.
During this period, will there be two financial systems, one digital and the other monetary?

Also, in those remote areas, people are not accustomed to using the Internet and mobile phones. How will the state be able to convert them to the digital system when they are not familiar with this type of technology?
If we return to the world conspiracy theory, which wants to send all people to a digital concentration camp, then Russia will be given all the necessary technologies despite the sanctions. But the main implementation will begin only in 2025, while testing in some large regions will be during these one and a half years.
In many places in Russia, SMS transfers are very popular. This is done easily by sending an SMS to the bank number with the text: "transfer_recipient's phone number_amount in rubles".
It's not hard to teach anyone.

Russia has a large territory and it is impossible to ban cash there in a few years, but many countries have been unlucky in this regard. In countries with a small territory, it is easier to digitize all citizens and make a digital wallet for everyone. In Russia, this will first be implemented where the Internet is massively available, because many people use banking services via SMS.

The whole world is launching CBDC and so the future is all digitalization and we're all gonna be seeing digitalization of assets and Putin knows it.
In wartime, it's easy to make it happen when they are going to have a database of all people in each city. But they will need to incentivize the use of CBDC in order for it to be used by people in the remote area.

The sad part is that it's still gonna be aa wealth transfer and the poor get poorer still.
For people to use banking applications, the country needs good internet. Ethereum and its competitors will be used to tokenize assets, and it may be easier to buy real estate in the future."
This reminds me of some altcoin projects I've followed in the past. They do similar things but in the end, failed. Some of them even run away and scam their users. Not really sure how to feel about tokenized assets, especially if most of them are overseas. Most smart contracts are hard to understand/verify and prone to hack too. I'd rather not buy them and stick with buying Bitcoin if an investment is my goal.
Here the problem is more in the legislation, and if something is tokenized, then most likely there will be additional protection methods that will not allow selling tokens from any wallet. Trading can be decentralized, but for this you will need to be registered on a centralized service.
And there are always risks in investing, but simple exchange smart contracts are difficult to hack.

Как раз к запуску CBDC подарок всем криптанам Smiley

Maybe in years coming if there is a need for Bitcoin to become a general currency then the aim of Satoshi Nakamoto will be accomplished but there is still fear that Bitcoin might become regulated.
On the contrary, the vision of Satoshi is not to make bitcoin a general currency according to you. His goal was to create a decentralized currency which will serve as a alternative to the centralized fiat system. Counting my this, Satoshi's goal has been met and even exceeded.
I agree with you, but it is still too early to talk about achieving the goal, because digital currencies are launched almost simultaneously in all countries, and after testing them, there are so many risks that Bitcoin and similar cryptocurrencies can be banned because they interfere with digital slavery.
You are correct and that also is my fear. But then, even if there is massive banning of all the cryptocurrency that interfer in the digital slavery agenda, the level of decentralization will tend to immune bitcoin and be the sole factor that will finally differential bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on the alter of banishment.
Not all coins will be banned. Ethereum and its competitors will be used to tokenize assets, and it may be easier to buy real estate in the future.

From August 1, the law will come into force, but CBDC won't work everywhere and it is not yet clear how this will work in practice.

I do not understand the idea of CBDC. The country does not want bitcoin to be legalized but since they see the people's interest in crypto coins, they decide to launch their own CBDCs. The government control CBDC with no control over the supply is a no threat to bitcoin.

I've been following this as well, and here's the first bad news. QIWI bank in Russia is often used to exchange cryptocurrencies for fiat and vice versa, it is very easy to get a bank card from them. Now the bank is under restrictions and under such conditions it is impossible to buy and sell cryptocurrencies.

https://novayagazeta.eu/articles/2023/07/25/qiwi-po-trebovaniiu-tsentrobanka-vremenno-ogranichila-vozmozhnost-vyvodit-dengi-s-koshelkov-news
"The press service of the bank said that from today, QIWI users will not be able to:
transfer more than a thousand rubles (12 $) a month to cards of other banks;
withdraw money from the wallet through the fast payment system (FPS);
withdraw cash from QIWI Cards, even at QIWI and partners' offices;
make transfers from QIWI Wallet via Contact;
repay a loan from any bank, except for loans from microfinance organizations."
