1961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Doge coin is bad on: February 09, 2021, 10:55:01 AM
Although this thread was created in 2014, my opinion about DOGE hasn't changed much. I believe that there is a huge amount of risk in investing in this coin. It is a mistake from the part of celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, Elon Musk and Gene Simmons to promote this shitcoin. The recent price rise doesn't hide the fact that DOGE doesn't have any real usage and it was originally created to mock the other cryptocurrencies. Eventually the exchange rates are going to crash and those who invested in this coin will lose their hard earned money.

In my opinion I think it is better for Kohli to leave the captaincy for all the format not just Test cricket. He has hard won any international series in all the format as a captain. I think thisnis just the beginning of his downfall.

The BCCI probably don't want to make Kohli feel disheartened. He was the captain for so many years and although he is having a rough patch right now, he still ranks as one of the most successful test captains for India. On top of that, until very recently, Indian batting used to be overdependent on Kohli, especially in green surfaces. But at the same time, the continued captaincy should be linked to performance on the field.

I have a different opinion on this. From what I can see, the performance of the Indian team has gone down ever since Damaadji (Ravi Shastri) was appointed as the coach in 2017. He is having almost zero contribution as far as coaching role is concerned (most of which is taken care by Bharat Arun and others. A better solution would be to kick out Damaadji from the post he has been holding for the past 4 years.

Yes, I want that to increase, you know the reason that they are still rich? That is because of their tax write off and charity donations which nullifies their tax payment and if the rich is really paying tax then how come Jeff Bezos pays almost 0 in taxes?

That doesn't make any sense. Because you can't have a group of people paying 12% tax, and another group paying 50%. It will eventually result in high-income group moving to other countries. The solution is to remove the loopholes used by the super-rich to avoid paying taxes. Because if Jeff Bezos pays no tax, then he will continue to do so even if the tax rate is increased to 50% or even 80%. On the other hand, those who pay their taxes honestly will be negatively impacted. To put it simply, there should not be any tax write-offs and exclusions for charity donations. Everything should come under the tax umbrella.
1964  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My email and phone have been hacked, is my bitcoin safe? on: February 09, 2021, 10:02:21 AM
I don't know which email the OP was using, but normally it is not very easy to hack in to gmail accounts. They always ask for mobile OTP, in case a login attempt is being made from a new IP. But then, if the phone is also hacked, then it is not going to work. I am curious how the hacker gained access to the mobile phone. If the claim is accurate, then most probably someone manually installed a spyware or keylogger to the mobile phone (such as Spyzie or Spyic). OP needs to immediately stop using the current phone.

Also, never use the same email everywhere. I know cases where users have accounts with half a dozen exchanges, and they use the same set of passwords and email everywhere. This just makes it easy for the hacker to steal your coins.
1965  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: February 09, 2021, 07:45:11 AM
Ashwin is gone and India is down to the tail-enders. Once again it was Jack Leach, who provided the breakthrough. Nice comeback from Leach, after the thrashing he received from Rishabh Pant during the first innings. A consolation for India would be Virat Kohli scoring his 28th test century. He is batting at 68 now, and with some support form Nadeem, Ishant and Bumrah, he may be able to reach that milestone. Apart from that, there is not much to do for India here. Another 245 needed for the win, which looks unrealistic.
1966  Economy / Economics / Re: Will Biden raise the federal minimum wage from 7.25 USD per hour to 15 USD? on: February 09, 2021, 07:30:39 AM
This should've happened a long time ago, the gap between inflation of daily items and the daily household of a minimum wage earner is so big right now that workers do not have the time to do something better, and to make it more better, their administration should impose big taxes on the higher income households and companies, and they should stop giving megachurches a tax free living, you see how Osteen is living a mansion and all he does is preach the Lord and receive tithe.

Higher income house holds are already paying almost half of their income as tax, and you want to increase this further? It will be a historic blunder to penalize wealth creation. Already there are tax slabs in existence in the US, and the large majority of the households pay only 12% or lower rates as tax. On the other hand, the rate for the topmost slab is 37%. The so called "rich" are already paying 3-4 times more tax in proportion to the others. Increase it any further and they will just pack their bags and move to some country where the tax laws are more favorable.

BTW, I am of the opinion that the churches should be taxed. Why there should be an exception for them while others are paying their taxes? Also, there is hardly any positive contribution coming out from these institutions.
1967  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: February 09, 2021, 06:37:59 AM
ROFLMAO..... India in deep $hit right now.. Pant and Sundar gone and Kohli left high and dry at the crease. Now I don't know for how long Ashwin may be able to defend against Anderson and the spinners. But after him, it's a bunch of genuine tailenders - Ishant, Nadeem and Bumrah. Archer must be salivating at the prospect of bowling against them. 69 overs remain in this match, and India is left with 4 wickets. Anderson has got 3 wickets for 7 runs. The amount of reverse swing this guy generate is just insane..... the commentators were calling him as the "sultan of swing" and I'd say that they are absolutely spot on.

They will try and hold on the crease as long as they can because their primary focus would be to end this match in a draw. If they cannot then they will lose this match and some media houses in India will start pointing fingers on Kohli.

It is impossible to defend for another 64 overs, with just 4 wickets remaining (that too in the 5th day against Archer and Anderson). And Ashwin is the last batsman with a capability to play a long innings. If he gets out, then Kohli will find it very difficult to build a partnership. Another 276 runs are needed... so chasing for a win isn't going to work either.

Fingers must be pointed towards Virat Kohli. Why not? He was responsible for the selection of Shahbaz Nadeem over Kuldeep Yadav. And he persisted with him, despite the fact that he was not able to pick the wickets. If he had given regular spells to Bumrah and Ishant, then England could have never been able to set such a daunting target. Kohli may be a legendary batsmen. But he is a total failure as far as captaincy is concerned.
1968  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla buys 1.5 BILLION worth Bitcoins !! Good or Bad ? on: February 09, 2021, 06:17:11 AM
I won't be surprised if this trigger takes Bitcoin to six-digit level. What Tesla has done is historical. They are simply saying that with all the multi-trillion USD stimulus spending, US Dollar is not a reliable store of value. So they are converting some of their cash reserves from US Dollar to more reliable assets (it is clear if you read their statement). Now I don't think that other companies are going to ignore this news. US Dollar is facing some genuine problems related to inflation and anyone with a brain would keep their holdings of USD to a bare minimum.
1969  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: India makes ownership of Bitcoin criminal offense - How to respond? on: February 09, 2021, 05:50:29 AM
^^^ If they take the ordinance route, then it will be introduced by this month itself. Because the ordinances can be brought up when the parliament is not in session. And I am a bit suspicious about the haste they are showing. It is like they don't want the Indian cryptocurrency holders to get the benefit of the bull run. Why should they show unnecessary haste, when the exchange rates are rising very fast? That is, unless they have an intention to cause losses to this group.

With Tesla making the announcement about moving a part of their cash reserves to Bitcoin/Gold, I am pretty sure that other companies will also make similar moves. No one want to trust the US Dollar and keep their wealth stored in USD. I won't be surprised if it ends up like the Zimbabwean dollar or the Venezuelan Bolivar. The Indian rupee may fare even worse. And no matter how hard the stupid governments try, no one is going to use their hyperinflated national currencies.

In the morning today, i thought Pakistan would lose the match and yet they will face the defeat in the match they should have won. But in the later part of the day, the South Africa batsmen lost wickets quickly and finally finally finally Pakistan won by 95 runs  Smiley

Yup.. Pakistan came back to the game quite strongly. At one point, South Africa was at 3/241 and needed just another 128 runs to win. Obviously it is not easy to score 128 runs in the final day of the match, and that too against bowlers such as Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi. But I thought that South Africa had the advantage as Markram and Bavuma were batting really well, and they had depth in their batting lineup (with de Kock, Wiaan Mulder, George Linde and Keshav Maharaj to follow). In the end, the South Africans could not handle the pressure and lost their last 7 wickets for just 33 runs.
1971  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: February 08, 2021, 11:45:47 AM
Summery : England dominated the game throughout all 4 days and they deserve to win here (Saying this as a test cricket fan)
England just need to pick 9 more wickets to win the match, India have shown resistance in Australia by defending the entire day and whether they can do in a pitch like Chennai which is favoring the spinners especially in the final day and the wicket of Rohit Sharma was a reminder how clueless the batsman can be in reading the line and length of the ball.

Not going to be easy for England. Among their spinners, only Dom Bess picked up wickets in the first innings. Both Jack Lech and Joe Root went for plenty of Runs. Leach will be relieved after getting the wicket of Rohit Sharma, but it is not going to be easy bowling against Kohli, Rahane and Pujara tomorrow. I guess Joe Root will bowl with Bess and Leach for most of the time, with short spells given to Archer and Anderson in between. Getting 9 wickets in 90 overs, that too in the final day of the test sounds very much probable. But the only difference here is that the Indian batsmen are in very good form, and their morale is quite high after the series in Australia.

BTW i have a bet on India with juicy @10 odds..

Wow.. odds of 10+

That is very attractive.. IMO, the odds should have been in 4-5 range. India has successfully chased big totals recently and many of their batsmen are in form. On top of that, even their lower order batsmen (such as Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin) are getting involved in 100 plus partnerships nowadays. If any of the gambling sites provided such favorable odds, then it is a miscalculation from their part.

Rohit's wicket was a big blow. But as long as India doesn't lose another wicket today (I guess only 3-4 overs remain), they should be fine. They still have Gill, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Pant and the lower order batsmen. If they bat carefully, then there is a big chance of upset. Even Joe Root is aware of it, and that was the reason why he refused to declare the English second innings when Dom Bess got out.
1973  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-01-30 [CNBC] India might ban private cryptocurrencies like bitcoin on: February 08, 2021, 10:37:51 AM
I have followed the news for quite a while now and I know for a fact that even if the Supreme Court have invalidated the memorandums being given by the RBI they still are pushing that it is not right which is quite surprising as their own Supreme Court is being push around by their own central bank. This is some kind of power struggle within their own government which makes things unclear for a lot of people we don't really know who has the real power and even if they have decided something someone will opposed on it which just makes the crypto news media more happy.

As such there is no animosity between the Supreme Court and the government. The 2018 directive from the RBI was invalidated, because it was not without any legal basis. The supreme court made it clear that if the RBI want to ban certain types of transactions, then the government first needs to come up with the legislation regulating the cryptocurrency. At that time, the government had no plans for such a law and that's the reason why they couldn't act further.

However in 2019, the Finance secretary (Subhash Chandra Garg) came up with a draconian law, which called for prison terms of up to 10 years for anyone dealing in  cryptocurrency. The bill was not implemented then, as Mr. Garg was kicked out within a few months. Anyway, the government seems quite adamant to pass this draconian legislation this time around. And there are limitations from the part of Supreme Court, if the law is passed by both houses of the parliament with a simple majority.
1974  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: February 08, 2021, 09:51:05 AM
Nadeem is not playing next game for sure. If he wants to play then he need to pick last 5 wickets by himself in his next 2 overs Grin

Edit
So far 26 No ball from India!

Well done Pakistan.....

Nadeem was picked over Kuldeep Yadav, as the captain/damaadji combination thought that playing three off-spinners would be a good idea. Kohli's tactics once again not working in this match. He should have given more overs to Ishant and Bumrah, while keeping Ashwin solidly at the other end. But in order to justify his selection, he was again and again giving spells to Shahbaz. The other three picked up 5 wickets for 50 runs, while Shahbaz have figures of 47/1. Hopefully after this match, the BCCI may consider replacing Kohli with Rahane as the test captain.
1975  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Elon fuels BTC rise 17% DOGE gose 8× on: February 08, 2021, 07:54:49 AM
Either way, all of these theories accelerate FOMO around DOGE.
Whether Elon is the biggest DOGE owner or not, his behavior reminds me of what John McAfee did a few years ago. McAfee's story ended when it turned out that he was doing coin pumps for money. I'd rather Elon do it for a joke, or even for himself, than for contract money.

McAfee promoted scam projects, fully knowing that there was a very high chance that anyone who listen to his advice would lose all their capital. His case is a classic example of someone using their celebrity status and (previously) clean reputation to promote scams. I feel bad for everyone who lost their money.. but then I hope that they have learnt their lesson. In a decentralized ecosystem, you are on your own.

On the other hand, Elon is someone who is honest to the core. He made a controversial statement many months before regarding the Tesla stock valuation. He said that the stock looks overpriced (which was true) and the share-holders (including Elon himself) witnessed 10%-20% of their wealth wiped out in a matter of few hours. He never made any statement, in order to increase his wealth. His tweets only resulted in wealth reduction for him.
1976  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How often are people really hacked out of their BTC? on: February 08, 2021, 07:18:05 AM
not hacked but did lose small # of coins after btc-e takedown

Same here.. but exchanges going down can't be compared to someone hacking in to your cryptocurrency wallet and stealing the coins (although in most of the cases the reason for them closing down is getting hacked). I have lost my coins multiple times when exchanges went down. But then, that is one of the risks you take while keeping your coins in exchange wallets. I lost a good number of LTC and some of the other altcoins when Cryptopia went down in 2019. And I am still waiting for any reimbursement from the owners.
1977  Economy / Economics / Re: Global Wealth Disparity is going to cause a lot of issues soon on: February 08, 2021, 07:06:19 AM
Rather than complaining about being poor, these people should work hard for a living. I am someone who works for almost 70 hours per week and I find it strange when lazy people complain about their poverty. I pay my taxes to the government, while these free-loaders receive their handouts from that money. And don't make any assumptions. I am no way near rich.. I can't even afford a four-wheeler. Still I never complain about my financial condition. I have worked hard over the years to improve my standard of living.

On the other hand, some of my neighbors have 7-8 kids each and they don't do any work. But these people receive free housing, electricity, cooking has and cash handouts from the governments. My family doesn't receive any of that, because I am a tax payer. And after all this, there is a section among the free-loaders who are not satisfied with what they get.
1978  Economy / Economics / Re: Florida bank says it has closed Trump's accounts on: February 08, 2021, 06:36:56 AM
Who can tell that a Person that talks against crypto all the time is really not involving in crypto? Remember that we are in Decentralized and Anonymous community (though not totally anonymous) so Either Trump or Biden does not have Bitcoin ? or other cryptocurrencies .
We are a crypto People and the silence majority maybe politicians or celebrities ? No one knows.

It is not easy for politicians to own some asset and stay anonymous. I don't know about the situation in the United States, but in countries such as Ukraine it is mandatory for the politicians to declare all their assets, including cryptocurrency. This is to make sure that there is no conflict of interest. But there is an ongoing debate whether the politicians should declare their assets or not, as it will increase their security threat. Here in India, all those who want to contest elections need to give written affidavit detailing all the assets they own.
1979  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: February 08, 2021, 06:01:31 AM
South Africa lost two important wickets at the start of the day. Dussen and du Plessis are out. du Plessis has scored only 5 runs. South Africa need just 211 runs to win. Mark ran is playing great. If he stays at the crease I think South Africa will be able to win the match.

LOL.. do you really think that scoring another 211 runs would be easy? They have already lost half of their top order batsman. Aiden Markram is batting alongside Temba Bavuma now. After these two, it's the turn of Quinton de Kock and Wiaan Mulder. The tail starts after that. Here we can claim that on paper the South African tail looks strong. George Linde and Keshav Maharaj can be described as lower order batsmen rather than tail-enders. But the target is very challenging.

BTW, the match between England and India is turning out to be very interesting. England managed to get a lead of 241, but they have lost their opener (Rory Burns) without any runs on board. Ideally they will be looking to score 150-200 runs in the second innings and then give their bowlers 4 sessions to bowl India out.
1980  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: India makes ownership of Bitcoin criminal offense - How to respond? on: February 07, 2021, 04:51:07 PM
This is really bad, like what the heck is wrong with these governments people? So, they want to follow the same steps like China did, ban cryptocurrency and then introduce their own dumb digital currency which I know for sure is going to fall, because I have already seen a few countries that tried to do this and it never worked out for them, because nobody was ready to make use of a government issued digital currency, like who will even do that?

For a long time now they have been talking about banning cryptocurrency in India and at a time I thought it was over, and now they started it again Shocked.

A small correction. The bill that the Indian government proposing is much worse. Chinese government never made the ownership of cryptocurrency a criminal offense. They just prohibited trade between fiat currency and cryptocurrency. But the Indian government wants to jail anyone who owns cryptocurrency. Even the Chinese bill was of no use and it didn't resulted in a decrease in cryptocurrency users in that country.

The Chinese government eventually came up with their digital Yuan and it had some success in being used for international trade. But from what we have seen, the digital Yuan has mostly replaced fiat payments and it didn't had a large impact on the cryptocurrency trade.
