21  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: [GUIDE] How to Sign/Verify message in NEW Blockchain Wallet on: July 08, 2017, 08:59:40 AM
You will only be able to sign messages with imported addresses and with addresses created in old Blockchain.info wallet. If you created a new wallet/account in Blockchain.info, you *won't* be able to sign messages with the addresses created.
Okay thanks for clarifying.Yes I'm using an address made in the old blockchain.info wallet before they updated.Never knew newly created addresses don't have signing provision.

Blockchain.info now uses hierarchical deterministic(HD) wallets. Many HD wallets don't allow you to sign messages. You will have to use tools like https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39 to first find private key of the address you want to sign message with and then import address to a wallet or use a tool.
22  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Online wallets on: July 08, 2017, 08:28:41 AM
Since I know, I've been using bitcoin some web wallet such as xapo, coinbase, blockchain, green address and so on, after trying a lot of wallets I choose coinbase and xapo because I think better than others.
Yeah, this wallets are good if you're just storing only small funds there and since this wallets are centralized and they keep on asking of user's personal information especially coinbase, well I'm not recommending this wallets anf since you as ther user can't access your own wallet address and that's the worst part of this web wallets I mean accounts.

Normal Xapo and Coinbase accounts don't give users access to private keys and transaction fees, whereas both GreenAddress & Blockchain.info let you choose transaction fee and have access to private keys.

If you are using Coinbase or other trading integrated wallets *only* for storing Bitcoin, you don't have to share your personal information. In most exchanges, you only need to share personal information if you trade above their basic limit.

24  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: [GUIDE] How to Sign/Verify message in NEW Blockchain Wallet on: July 08, 2017, 07:56:13 AM
Any updates to this as there is no way I can sign a message in blockchain, the only options I get is edit name or show xpub?
Did you read the main post seriously ? Wasn't that enough ?
According to their official post : https://support.[Suspicious link removed]/hc/en-us/articles/210353833-What-is-message-signing-and-how-can-I-do-that- it's possible for only imported addresses. However,I'm still able to sign messages from the original address on blockchain.info.Follow the same steps mentioned in the link above.
Thanks for the prompt reply, so I will need to import an address from a separate wallet then?
No,you don't have to,the last I checked.Like I said,I was able to sign a message without importing an address.
Here's how you do it :
1-Go to Settings
2-Click Addresses
3-On the right hand side of the address you wish to sign a message from has "More Options ->Click ->Sign Message"
4-I checked it just now and it's working.
Are you using blockchain.info? As I do not get those options after I click on manage, all I get is change the address or delete the address

You will only be able to sign messages with imported addresses and with addresses created in old Blockchain.info wallet. If you created a new wallet/account in Blockchain.info, you *won't* be able to sign messages with the addresses created.
25  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: which is the best? Blockchain or Coinbase. on: July 08, 2017, 07:34:44 AM
I think coinbase is better than blockchain, this is because the coinbase there is have vault feature so suited to save a huge amount.

You are wrong!

Blockchain.info - you have access to private key.
Coinbase normal wallet/vault - you don't have access to private key, plus 48 hours delay for each transaction.
Coinbase multisig vault - you have access to your private key, plus 48 hours delay. You can also create and sign a transaction using tools such as coinb.in, but it is insecure, unsafe and complicated or hard for users without much knowledge on using them.

In addition, the transaction fee is smaller than blockchain. So, I recommend to use coinbase.

You can set custom fee in Blockchain.info and AFAIK, you can't set custom fee in Coinbase. Correct me if I am wrong!

When I compare all pros and cons, Blockchain.info is better. Vault is also not much better. If you are just looking for a multisig wallet, there are better services/software out there. There are, however, advantage in using Coinbase if you are a frequent trader or if you send off-chain transactions.

Edit: I don't understand how you got "low" transaction fee in Coinbase.

I just tried to send 0.0002 sat but the coinbase give me network fee of 0.0007983 btc that i think its really high for small transaction..
But if you send high amount of bitcoin the network fee are asking the same fee as small transaction.
It is not a good choice if you using coinbase for small transaction but if you are using coinbase for large transaction the network fee is reasonable..
If you want to have fully control with the fee use other wallet instead like multibit HD or electrum they have option to use dynamic fees or either manually input you fee but like other said always check the https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ for transaction speed estimation and what the fee can give you satisfaction..

In case you missed it, ChipMixer.

If you are not satisfied with our service, please contact support in 48h (while your session is not yet deleted) and we can help you. Waiting few days then writing on forum while advertising bitmixer looks bit weird.

I have a question that probably a lot of users just starting to use chipmixer will probably share. What if the session is automatically destroyed after 48h and something happens, say the funds get stolen/private key doesn't work? Will support be able to help the user then?
 -snip-

@ChipMixer: What do you do if someone claims you have stolen Bitcoin from private key you have given. If it is a small amount, it may not have much impact because of the trust you have. But, what happens if it is a large amount? I hope you have already thought about it and have come up with a solution or is working on one! Good luck! By the way, I have sent you a PM! Please reply! Thanks!

As with other mixers and as is the nature of Bitcoin, there's not much that can be proven when you accuse someone of stealing.

For example, if a mixer/wallet/exchange is accused of stealing, no one can prove who actually spent the bitcoin since the only proof would be held by the person stealing and by the original owner, who might be the same person if the accusation is false. How could people know who is being truthful if the result would be the same regardless of whether the original owner spent the bitcoin or if the other party used the private key? It could even just be a hacker who managed to get the private key through other means.

There is a difference between ChipMixer and other mixing services, online wallets and exchanges, i.e. ChipMixer gives you private key. When we withdraw Bitcoin, you will get a receipt or a signed message saying you have withdrawn xx.xxxxBTC to 1xxxx...(or 3xxxx...). You or the service can check the withdrawal address you have given to see if you have gotten your bitcoins or not. Even if an accusation is made, you/service will be able to provide sufficient proof. If you couldn't, say they blocked your account, that will only make service's reputation worse. But that's not the case with ChipMixer. They are giving you private key which makes it harder to prove who send Bitcoin from that address.

So in the end it all just comes down to trust and reputation of ChipMixer.

Yes, you are right! However, anybody, especially competitors, could use this flaw to destroy their reputation.

If someone accused ChipMixer once, maybe a lie!
If it happens second time, is it really as trusted as others say?
If it happens for third time, suspicious!!!
If an accusation is made again, negative feedback!

I've got a question, the last activity period just started(1 hour and a half ago) but my rank has not yet changed, any idea how long the refresh takes?

Forum is slow nowadays. It will take some time.

when the rank system exactly calculated ? What time ?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=582736.0

Hi I have a question. What is the difference between post count and activity count? I notice that may post count and activity count is the same but others have different counts, how come?

Because you can only get 14 activity every two week period as explained in the op.

Hmm. As far as i know I've been posting here a week, before that my activity post and count was 11. How come it is the same 54 count if 14 activity will be added every 2 weeks?

See my post - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.msg19709435#msg19709435.

Thank you everyone for giving your statement or suggestions! I have recovered a backup of private key corresponding to 1MZakirz92c76pK6BNy1NAEmbWYpDcP7mh! I'm still working on recovering PGP key. I will post a signed message from my addresses (current & 1MZakirz92c76pK6BNy1NAEmbWYpDcP7mh) soon!
If you have recovered a backup of your 1MZakirz92c76pK6BNy1NAEmbWYpDcP7mh key, why are you unable to sign a message immidiately?

1. My current internet data plan has usage limits. When I reach my usage limit, it gets awfully slow!
2. It was dinner time and I have already delayed it as I was focused on recovering. If I still delayed eating, I would probably have to sleep on an empty stomach.

31  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: missing BTC in Excodus wallet on: July 04, 2017, 09:23:42 AM
I had a good talk with Exodus walletsupport

Probably the amount ( on July 1st ) was not correct updated in my wallet.
So on the screen the amount was enough in reality the wallet was already almost empty...

Exodus walletsupport found out that on 29 th June the wallet was already almost empty...

I'm getting confused here! You mean balance showed when you send Bitcoin from Exodus where in fact wrong? If it is the case, when you said 0.14BTC was missing, you were assuming you had 0.17BTC (0.14 + 0.003) in your wallet?

I can see transactions on the blockchain. But as newbe I  don t understand how I can check my amount in my wallet (on the blockchain )

What do you mean by this? You are using Exodus, right? Then, what do you mean by "...in my wallet on the blockchain". Anyway, it's good to know your problems are solved. If you had doubts about your balance, check your balance in a block explorer of that coin.
32  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info blocking accounts? on: July 04, 2017, 09:08:04 AM

Full validation - it means you will validate blocks yourself, rather than trusting a third party. You can also contribute to network by validating blocks and sharing blocks & transactions you received to other nodes (if you consider it as an advantage).
What type of software do I need in order validate blocks by myself?

Running a full node means you are already validating blocks and transactions. You can either download Bitcoin Core or Bitcoin Knots (haven't tested personally) to run a node.

A seed, which is also referred to as BIP39 seed, is a set of words, usually 12 words, which is used to generate all your addresses and corresponding private keys. Private keys are instead a secret number. It can be in many formats, but to make it easier for importing, private keys are shown in wallet importing format(WIF). It either starts with 5 and is 51 characters (uncompressed) or starts with K or L and is 52 characters (compressed).
Do I need both the seed and the private keys to reclaim?

No, only seed. Private keys are generated *from* seed.

Where do I import the private keys to? eg: another online wallet, or desktop wallet, usb wallet?
Does the seed need to be imported somewhere as well; where?

Thank you

You can import it to a wallet which support BIP39. E.g. Mycelium, Electrum, Bither, Schildbach's Android wallet, Copay, Breadwallet etc... Don't import your seed to an unknown wallet or share it with others or services.
33  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do islam hates people? on: July 04, 2017, 08:32:12 AM
I am in India and I don't see any "war" between Muslim & nom-Muslim. But a fight between "Muslim" and others does happen. I just have to clarify one thing and that is just because someone claim to be Muslim doesn't mean they follow Islam. I have seen many who calls themselves as Muslims, but don't do anything Islam says or do partially! Just because some do bad/worst things, don't mean everyone are bad!
Since you are from India i am sure we are hearing about political unrest and the safety of the common man, since the government is ruled by a former leader who killed masses and never went to trail ,these things are happening again,i am hearing about mob lynching in the news all the time, are those criminals sent to jail, they are targeting people from a particular cast and religion because they do not worship cow it seems.

Yes, a lot of political wars and even killings are happening, mostly in Central & North India. Many politicians are behind this and even one politician admitted it is not wrong (indirectly) iirc. Where I live is comparatively much peaceful. But you should note that he is saying Muslims are at war with all non-Muslims and Hindus in India etcetera, which is absolute bs. No offence.

35  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallets - Multiple Questions on: July 04, 2017, 07:33:10 AM
Simple answer.

1. Yes each wallet must be downloaded unless it has an online wallet. Never use an exchange as a wallet.

2. You will lose your coins if wallet.dat is deleted. Find wallet.dat here :

First search %appdata% hit enter.
Look for the coins name and open folder. A wallet.dat file will be there. Back it up !!
To restore your wallet or to change to another one simply replace the wallet.dat file.

3. Use this forum.

So I decided to take the dive and start backing up my wallets, but wanted to double check on a few things which tie specifically into the post above:

1.  Do I just need to backup the "wallet.dat" file or the whole folder that contains the wallet.dat file in my - %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\"coin name here"

If you just want to recover your wallet, then wallet.dat file is enough. But you would have to download entire blockchain again to spend it from your client.

2.  If I change the name of my wallet.dat will it corrupt the file.  For example, say I have like 5 different coins and 5 different wallet.dat files I wouldn't know what is what. (unless of course I make different folders that labeled the coin...yes I know it's a simple solution, but just wondering)  So if I changed them to say bitcoinwallet.bat & ethwallet.bat etc. etc. would those files still work?  OR could I do that, but have to just eventually change it to wallet.dat when I want to use it again?

AFAIK, renaming wallet.dat won't corrupt your file. You will have to change extension to .dat to recover your wallet.

3.  If I delete a wallet, then reinstall a wallet, do I just need to go into this folder %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\"coin name here" and just replace/overwrite the "wallet.dat" file once the new wallet is done syncing with the network?

You can replace wallet.dat (default) file with your wallet file anytime. Don't forget to close your client when doing it. Though you can do it anytime,, I suggest you to do it before syncing, so you don't need to rescan to check transactions.

I figured I'd start with a wallet that has a small amount in it so in case I screwed something up I wouldn't lose much.

You can use testnet instead. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Testnet
36  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do islam hates people? on: July 04, 2017, 06:50:41 AM
It seems to me that the Muslim Marat people of the Christians will never live peacefully. The fact is that all this hatred and Propaganda against each other, makes a very huge gulf, not only between religions but also between human relations. If they already start killing each other in such a brazen way that I think that I will not have to hope for something good.

Muslims are at war with all the non-Muslim groups, and not just against the Christians. They are at war with Hindus in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. They are also at war with Buddhists in Thailand and Myanmar. What more, they are at war even with the Yazidis in Syria and Iraq.

I am in India and I don't see any "war" between Muslim & nom-Muslim. But a fight between "Muslim" and others does happen. I just have to clarify one thing and that is just because someone claim to be Muslim doesn't mean they follow Islam. 37  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: missing BTC in Excodus wallet on: July 04, 2017, 06:02:16 AM
thanks TryNinja

Transactions are not in the blockchain and did not arrived at Bittrex

After the 2 transactions I had only about 0.003 BTC left on my walllet

I did rescan
and I did restore the wallet, but without uninstalling it.

Broadcast error was probably a result of you not having a correct connection to their node.

So if i understand the situation correctly, you sent .14 btc in total, it said broadcast error, and nothing showed up neither on the blockchain nor on the bittrex wallet balances, but your exodus wallet balance was deducted, correct?

If your address still shows that it has 0.143 BTC on a bitcoin block explorer, then simply go to exodus and export your wallet. Import the private keys elsewhere, for example electrum or blockchain.info. Then you'd have access to your coin.

Alternatively, you can still use Exodus by *uninstalling* Exodus and reinstalling it. You must have a backup of your wallet before you remove Exodus.

@coinrosa: Did you rescan Bitcoin blockchain and not other currency? Rescanning another coin won't rescan Bitcoin blockchain. Btw, can you try to see if you can send/receive Bitcoin from/to your address? Also, check if it is only a problem with your Bitcoin wallet and not all wallets. You can use Blockchain.info or Blocktrail.com to check your balance and transactions.

I know this is an old thread but what caused some of these escrows to close?  If anyone can point me to the reasons and causes I would like to learn as I do plan on launching my own escrow service but for small businesses not just with bitcoin community.  You learn more from the failures than the successes. Smiley

Almost all of them closes their service because they don't have enough time! A few were removed/closed after escrow scammed.

  -snip-
If not they are doing fraudulent about their service. Many people are actually having problem about freezing account or block account but most of them are totally blocked and never recover their bitcoins.. They should give back your bitcoins if your coins still there even they closed your account.

I don't think there are "many" users whose balance were also blocked. They may block your accounts, but your funds can be withdrawn. "Freezing" your funds only happens very rarely. Please post evidence to back your claim if I am wrong!

I have account there but never experience this yet but i don't want to experience this thing because sometimes i'm using their service to gamble before since i experience many issue like pending transaction that it takes too much time before they can reply and the site always unavailable i decided to use electrum and multi HD for alternative use.. It is not safe for now to use their service since they are not also giving chance to get the private keys of every bitcoin address there possible that our bitcoin is in risk..

I would rather see Coinbase as an exchange than as a wallet.
