op, i just like you when i was a newbie, and then, i am almost screwed.
giving this kind of negative trust makes no sense to figure out if he is a scammer, unless he/she is exposed to be an scamming alt, otherwise this kind of act is just harming newbies.
lending is not a place of pawnbroking, but under the "rule", it is just a pawnbroker to protect lenders, not loaners.
 Cry

It is to prevent being scammed. 99% of newbies asking loan here are scammers and waiting till they scam to leave negative a negative trust feedback is senseless!

I think its better to PM a Global Moderator and/or an admin who is online.

Trust is not moderated. Talk with EcuaMobi.

Can you sign an address linked to jacee[1]?

and blockchain is not official source or something, just one of block explorers, which is the most popular one..

Blockchain and Blockchain.info is different. Please be more specific when you explain it to newbies to avoid confusions.

Blockchain.info is the most popular one and the buggiest one... -- corrected for you!

Addresess are generated from private keys. Thats what i was looking for Smiley

Remember, first public key is derived from private key and then, address. An address is a hashed version of its public key and you can't calculate public key from an address.

{..} It is said that if you create a paper wallet nobody gets to your coins.

It depends on the way you create a paper wallet. For example, if you generate a private key in an insecure device and print it, then there is a high chance you will loose Bitcoins send to that address.

What about the private key? Is it store somewhere in the servers?

No. I think you don't know what a paper wallet is. Generally, a paper wallet is storing Bitcoins on a physical paper/document*.

Private keys are printed onto a paper. If you generate private key using an online wallet, Blockchain.info for example, then your private key is also in their server and in your paper -- doing this is highly discouraged. Don't generate private keys online!

* From wiki.

How does blockchain.info or coinbase recognise my private key and matches it with my address? I think there is a simple answer to it but i cant think of it Smiley

Addresses are calculated from private key and not vice versa. I recommend you to print both address and private key onto a paper when you create a paper wallet. So you can avoid confusions.

Edit:

I need to learn to explain myself Smiley

I wanna know how the private key works in the whole system not how to do it Smiley

426  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info Unfair Fee Deduction on: August 11, 2015, 01:36:02 PM
I sent 0.001 btc to an btc address from my Blockchain wallet for which they deducted 0.0004 btc as fee Sad
Should I switch to another wallet?

They are merely suggesting a standard fee based on the size of your transaction (4 kilobytes). I believe your address has more than 25 dust inputs from faucets? Transaction fee on size rather than value is one of the first things I learnt as a newbie.
How do I know the size of my transaction beforehand?

Rough calculation: 148 * number_of_inputs + 34 * number_of_outputs + 10 ± number_of_inputs.
427  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Need help About piiko! on: August 11, 2015, 01:24:22 PM
I think you'll have to wait for a response from the support and either they'll either process your reload or return your BTC back, there is another Bitcoin refill service Bitrefill you can try to see if it works in your location and afaik they use bitpay instead of coinbase so they shouldn't have that round of problem the coinbase seem to be having above.

Bitmoby is better.
428  Other / Meta / Re: Password reset isn't working on: August 11, 2015, 01:15:37 PM
I'm wondering why I got no reset email for my Account Salmen.
With this Account I got a reset mail without any problems.

Do as I say! Reset your account by email, i.e. instead of entering username, enter your email address associated with that account and check whether you get an email or not.
I got no mail. I entered the mail address of the old Account but got no email.

Cheers
Salmen

Probably, your email provider is blocking it but usually, email should go to 'Spam' folder, if it is not in inbox. Have you checked 'Spam' folder? If it is not there, then I highly suspect that the email you think is linked to your account is not the current email. Check your other email accounts(if any). You may have changed your email before.

P.S. After you enter your email address, what did it show? "That username does not exist" or "A mail has been sent to your email address. Click the link in that mail to set a new password"?
429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who Is Satoshi Nakamoto? on: August 11, 2015, 01:08:46 PM
He is nobody.

An imaginary character, a ghost. He represents CIA or Apple Inc. or something big like one of those.

Who is Satoshi[1] then? An imaginary character? No way!

Wait , what Shocked
I'am speaking about the seed only , in case I don't take backup files at all . it should still work right ? (same question for Multibit HD if you could answer) because it asks to take backup and I'am not sure what the seed is for if you have to take backup of files

Sorry! I thought you were talking about backup in general.

Yes, you only need to backup the seed in order to recover Bitcoins or to restore a wallet. A seed is compatible with all versions of that wallet.
431  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: (Almost sure)brainwallet.org stole 22BTC from me on: August 11, 2015, 01:00:42 PM
If you are talking about Brainwallet.org, it is not a web wallet. It is a website of a bundle of tools which can also be used locally.

That's why i called it a web resource. It's a bit like using vanity gen. Even if the software is 100% legit, the address generated is inherently less secure than a completely random one. And the common mortal is not apt to judge whether what they are doing is safe or not.

The second you use anything from a 3rd party, you're foregoing a certain level of security for whatever you are gaining.

Is there a proof that the online tools were in fact as legit as the maybe legit bundle you were able to use offline? Well maybe, if it was really a scam, a lot more people would have lost BTC, but you can never really trust something 100%.

Yes, you are right and what you said* is true for all wallets and tools including Bitcoin Core.

* Except web resource.

Well, I think Xapo is very legit. If they lost your coins, they wouldn't be able to get away with it, it's not some anonymous dude, the CEO etc it's all registered, if they screw you up they owe you the Bitcoins. I don't know the terms of wha would happen exactly tho.

Yeah! That' why, PBMining and Mt. Gox has repaid all customers! Undecided

and it is insured by well known insurance companies etc etc.

i guess in the future most people have to use services like this. easy and secure. the average joe cant keep hunderds of dollars on his crappy pc or phone  Undecided

Secure? How? I can't believe you are saying people to store Bitcoin in an online wallet which does not even give access to private keys instead of a PC or phone.
432  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum saying incorrect password on: August 11, 2015, 12:44:01 PM
If you think, your seed became incorrect when your wrote or copy it, then I recommend you to try btcrecover[1] developed by btchris[2].

[1] https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover
[2] https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1171

-snip-
If you are comfortable posting your xpubkey then I can confirm that your "original" wallet in fact has the small amount of bitcoin. Although publishing your xpubkey will cause every transaction that you ever made with that wallet (seed) to be made public, both transactions in the past, and transaction in the future.

I recommend you to use https://www.blockonomics.co/ to look for your balance. If you find your total balance as zero, then go to bottom and click 'Transactions' and see if it shows any transactions. If not, then your xpub is different.
433  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Electrum - Lightweight Bitcoin Client on: August 11, 2015, 12:32:20 PM
Hi , I have a quick question here .
How to upgrade from a version to another new version (of Electrum) ? I simply install the other or I should unistall the old one , also does the seed works on different wallets , I mean a seed of 2.3 version should work fine on the 2.4 version ?

Yes, it works! Backup your Electrum wallet file(s) and install latest version.

-snip-

Should I uninstall the old wallet before installing a new version?

It's not necessary, but it doesn't hurt either.

(I will do multiple local and remote backups of my wallet before doing any installs or upgrades.)

That's always a good idea, but it also shouldn't be necessary. The only thing to be aware of is that Electrum 2.x will upgrade your wallet format. In order to downgrade to a 1.x version (not that you ever should need to), you'll either need to restore your wallet from it's seed or use a backup from before you upgrade.

Side note: if you do remote backups, be sure you've got a strong password on the wallet, or use a zero-knowledge backup provider such as SpiderOak (and a strong password with them).

-snip-

Finally, once the installation on the 10.9.5 system is completed and confirmed, is there any point of keeping the 1.9.8 wallet?

nerioseole alluded to one above—Electrum 2.x uses a different wallet format. If you give it a 1.9.8 wallet file, it will upgrade it to the new format behind the scenes (the seed remains the same). If you ever want to copy this 2.x wallet file to a machine that has Electrum 1.x on it, you'll need to instead either:
  • Use a backup from Electrum 1.x, or
  • simply restore from the seed.
434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pywallet 2.2: manage your wallet [Update required] on: August 11, 2015, 12:25:40 PM
Anyone can help? with Lite wallet corrupt salvage failed
Already rescan and recover on litecoin core.
have pywallet but need useful command.
tHx

You have to specify the version, data directory and wallet file(if name is not wallet.dat) because Litecoin uses version 48 addresses and its data directory is different from that of Bitcoin Core's.

Eg:-

Code:
pywallet.py --otherversion=48  --dump --datadir=~/.litecoin/ --wallet=wallet1.dat >> anyname.txt
435  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Address / Wallet Watcher - Blockonomics on: August 11, 2015, 12:07:42 PM
Added support for searching extended public key . You can Try this https://www.blockonomics.co/#/search?q=xpub6BfKpqjTwvH21wJGWEfxLppb8sU7C6FJge2kWb9315oP4ZVqCXG29cdUtkyu7YQhHyfA5nt63nzcNZHYmqXYHDxYo8mm1Xq1dAC7YtodwUR . You can search many xpubs together ,  xpubs / bitcoin addresses together, be crazy !

I have tested using mycelium and electrum wallets.

We need your help for testing xpub search  Smiley .  Feel free to test it and report bugs. Two most innovative/critical bugs (judged by me) will get a bounty of 0.01BTC

Thanks everyone for helping us out (special thanks to Muhammed Zakir for help on this)
- Cheers , Go Satoshi !

Did a small testing and it seems to work well! IMHO, its better not to show any address if an xpub entered is not used (yet).
436  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are bitcoins accepted by Amazon.com? on: August 11, 2015, 11:35:46 AM
AFAIK amazon doesnt accept bitcoins but you can buy amazon cards from gyft.com by bitcoins

I say the gyft approach is probably the most best and safe approach.

there are also days when gyft does holiday discounts and you can buy their "gyft" card to purchase a discount then use that to buy a cheaper amazon card.

You will get 3% of your money back to your account when you buy with Bitcoin. Subtracting 3% from the amount is better than sending 3% back to the account. Anyway, its still good! But I recommend Zebpay. It already is selling few gift cards at 10% discount and I heard they will soon add Amazon.com gift cards. I have used it numerous times and it all went well! Even though, I had a few issues, their support promptly replied and fixed it!
437  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NewBee - How to turn my real money into bitcoin so i can purchase things online on: August 11, 2015, 11:31:06 AM
You can buy Bitcoin through an exchange. from there you can send them to your wallet and start shopping.
You can try Bitquick, or circle. I believe it is the fastest and safest way to buy Bitcoin.

last time I checked all those service sites, like coinbase are horrible.

from like support, and verification process etc. the support for coinbase is just a email address and they dont even reply back sometimes lol.
i wouldnt recommend coinbase either way, they are known to track how users spend their funds, and have reported dark net market spending of a user to the police in the past as well. if anything, use circle.

Circle will probably do the same thing. Coinbase is doing it because it is an exchange and they have to follow rules.

Its better to use a wallet than to store Bitcoins on an exchange because exchanges have to follow many rules which possibly causes problems to users and their funds.
438  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Safety of using Electrum MPK Bitcoin Watcher? on: August 11, 2015, 11:27:21 AM
MPK is master public key of your HD wallet. You can share it with others but that will decrease your privacy because people having your MPK can see all your transactions linked to that wallet.

Sharing your MPK with that wallet is fine too but if you value your privacy, then its probably not a good idea as we don't know whether the developer is monitoring our transactions or not.

Don't ever share your seed with anyone else!
439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: !setBlockIndexCandidates.empty() Bitcoin Core 0.11 error on: August 10, 2015, 05:21:52 PM

Are you sure that is the whole thing? I don't see any errors.

He posted the correct part before but now, he has edited and replaced with irrelevant part. IIRC, there was some problem reading a block but I don't remember which one it was.
440  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: (Almost sure)brainwallet.org stole 22BTC from me on: August 10, 2015, 04:54:10 PM
Probably it is way more secure and user friendly to use a service like Xapo than a brainwallet.

If you use a strong passphrase for your brainwallet, then it is definitely better than Xapo. Well, if you are taking about Brainwallet.org, then still, I am firm with my words! I have used it many times! It may not be secure enough to use Brainwallet.org online though.

Btw, Brainwallet.org and brainwallet are two different things. So please do specify correctly when you are talking!
