21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - GUN Core V1.5.1 Released - Mandatory on: October 28, 2018, 07:45:33 PM
Hello there any news from cryptopia Huh Angry

None that we are aware of to us.  They still have dozens of coins in Maintenance Mode other than GUN also.

Looks like quite a mess over there (at Cryptopia).
I do not envy the work they must be doing to straighten things out.

It looks like it will take, whatever it will take, to work this out.
I believe that they were just not quite ready to resume trading after the shakeup.
Some growing pains, for a currency that may really go places someday Smiley

Couple of questions

I have a old wallet cold storage, saved the wallet.dat file. I can just import that/copy that file over to the new wallet version and be OK right? Or do I need to do something special? Havent touched that one in like 5-6 months.

With the latest wallet version it says Syncing Headers in bottom left corner than stays seemingly stuck at last received block, which was 5 days ago it says. One time I left it like this for a long while and it completed sync but IDK how long that took. Its abnormal to me cause the guncoin wallet would sync so fast usually leave it open and itd complete sync within 3-5 minutes (depending on how far its been since I opened it last)

This newest wallet took some time to initially sync after reindexing, maybe a good day.
To answer your question though...I believe so.
That said, what I would try is:
Make sure that you have a backup of that original "wallet.dat" file.
Drop that into your Guncoin folder, most likely under "Your User Name/AppData/Roaming/Guncoin".
But I WOULD NOT be overwriting any wallet.dat file that may have different addresses in it, ie...newer deposits, if you have multiple wallets.
Download the newest version, and start her up.
It should install, reindex, and sync, but take a while this first time.

Should be quick as usual after that.
There was some good discussion regarding some of this on the Telegram for GUN last week.

I advise the team to hire more advisors for specific parts of the platform that can push certain aspects of the platform into better versions of itself. The idea will be better then

Seriously newbie?  I do not think so.  Please pad your posting stats on other coins.

Looks like we're getting more bots these days too.
One of these days though, when Cryptos in general, and Guncoin become more widespread, I believe this will all look so silly.
Those fluffing up their post count could have been picking up some of these coins with huge potential for next to nothing pricing instead ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The current situation on the market is beginning to improve, finally the prices have gone up slightly and Guncoin too.

You are correct - we have seen a 3-4 sat increase that appears to be a stable jump since the block reward changed from 150 down to 100 early this morning.

The price still seems fairly stable.
Not as much volume as I'd like to see, but stable is nice, and there seems to be some good buy support too.

Placing the second well somewhere in India sounds like a great idea.
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - Block Reward Change on: August 19, 2018, 04:47:22 AM
For those who have not noticed, GUN is approaching a major milestone in the next day or two. Our block height will reach 1,000,000.  That is a lot of blocks mined for a lot of coins by a lot of loyal miners over the past 4+ years.  As such, the reward will be reduced from 150 coins down to 100 coins per block when we reach 1,000,000.  We thank the community for all their support and look forward to many more good times in the years to come with Guncoin.

I appreciate the heads up regarding this.
Looks like it should happen tomorrow.
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - GUN Core V1.5 Released on: August 14, 2018, 05:32:34 AM
Additionally, I am running an old version of the wallet, 1.3.0 I believe. Am I safe to run the most current version without having to do anything?

It should work fine, just make sure that you make a backup first for good measure as during any upgrade.
My memory tells me that the resync/index is pretty fast (relative to other cryptos), maybe a little over an hour.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - GUN Core V1.5 Released on: August 13, 2018, 05:06:33 PM
Ok......and what does cryptopia say about it?  Keep in mind that despite our 5 tweets and posts here, half our network is still running the OLD V1.4 code.  Remember, you CANNOT send GUN from an old version wallet to a new one.  Also, keep in mind that we do NOT control and monitor any of the many pools that are out there besides guncoinpool.com.  If those mining pools have NOT updated their wallets and your try and send you coins to Cryptopia (that has updated, it is NOT going to work until the pool updates their code.

Devil's advocate here:
I understand that it takes time to understand updates, especially if one is not following super closely, but is the answer to what was queried as simple as updating their wallet?
When it reindexes after the update/install, shouldn't the GUN be back?

I have sent other currencies on the wrong fork before and that has seemed to work for me.

Kflo01...please share if that gets your Guncoin back.
I believe that it would be good to know, especially if others may have the same thing happen.

It's been a while, but did check in this morning to join the hangout.
I'll try to make the next.
Glad that your Mom is OK.
BTW, I can see EGC associated with stuff like vitamins, exercise, and healthy lifestyle too.
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - GUN Core V1.5 Released on: August 10, 2018, 02:37:35 AM
As it turns out, the web wallet missed the last upgrade and we will be getting that taken care of this week I hope.  That means, while coins are there they cannot be sent to an upgraded wallet.  Sorry, we will get that taken care of.

I hate it when that happens...

Me too...

Hi everyone,

We are trying to gather a donation for the French Creek Valley Conservancy to be made on August 14th, 2018. An anonymous donor will be matching donations dollar-for-dollar on that day! The French Creek Valley is in Pennsylvania, USA. James Magee resides within that valley and he is familiar with the organization and does attest to its 23 year record as a non-profit helping their valley. Please read more, https://evergreencoin.org/product/french-creek-valley-conservancy/ if you are interested. The crowdfund is open and it is a new option in your staking for charity drop down menu within your EverGreenCoin wallet. We do not have many days to collect, but thank you in advance for any contribution.

Also, please know we would happily support similar efforts in your local area. Please feel free to contact via any preferred method to do so.

Again, thank you in advance for helping to make our dollar-for-dollar matched donation to the French Creek Valley Conservancy a sizable one.

Have a great day!

Looks like a nice way to spend some EverGreenCoin.

now the price of btc is stable, who predicts what the next market will look like and what effect on the price of EGC

Who can tell? The best thing is to get more people to hear about and involved in EGC

That is true.
EGC seems like a nice, stable, dev-involved, currency that can, and has served a purpose such as donating value to some good causes.
I am looking forward to where this currency may go someday.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - GUN Core V1.5 Released on: July 23, 2018, 05:23:31 PM
We have seen a 30% rise in GUN price in the past few days that seems to be holding well, when may other coins have fallen off.  This with BTC up some too - nice job!

I've been way too busy lately to check in much, but yeah, it is very nice to see GUN sticking in there like it is.
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - GUN Web 1.0 Release - New GUN Web Wallet on: May 23, 2018, 12:23:35 AM
Guncoin is being traded of course, just a little lower than usual like most other currencies out there.

I believe this is one of the lowmarketcap coins that when it breaks out, will make many people wish they were paying closer attention at times like these.

So... apparently whoever our mystery / last minute player is. Is 69 on the rich list and sitting on  31,364... using the Bittrex 24hr low equates to $5,959.16 USD.

To whoever that is. I say this with love but you suck lol... I've got maybe 200 coins I've been lucky to buy after everything I pay for monthly ;-(

Wow, I'm totally shocked at your post and lack of your humility, I suspect they were trying to help you out a little. Can't find any more words.

Lol, Crys, took what I meant from it.

Didnt full on tell the guy to piss off and goto as my mom would say... H E double hockey sticks LMAO !

I took that wrong at first glance also, then realized it was friendly bantering, LOL Smiley
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - GUN Core V1.5 is in Work Now on: May 21, 2018, 06:46:22 PM
Moving forward on the GUN Core Roadmap, we will be getting started on GUN V1.5.....

There are lots of new and exciting features in this update that you can see on our Roadmap page on the website.  We anticipate rolling it out in early June on schedule.  While this should be a soft fork and backward compatible, it will be highly advantageous to upgrade once the Guncoin team makes it available.

Does the online/desktop wallet have HD ( Hierarchical Deterministic ) capabilities, meaning if I were to send a partial amount will the remaining balance  go to a new address but in my wallet and not get lost?    Huh

Not at this time.  This is just a basic wallet so far/  In the near future,  additional capabilities will be added.

If I read the comment correctly, I believe that sending a partial amount from an address is safe in the standard wallet (that does not have HD capabilities).
My understanding is that there are a certain number of predetermined change addresses (maybe 100 or so) ready to go, that stay with your wallet.
As long as a backup is made every so often, there should be no problem and all of your coins will be there.

It's working fine from over here.
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - GUN Web 1.0 Release - New GUN Web Wallet on: April 12, 2018, 07:35:58 PM
Is the GunCoin Network ASIC Miner friendly?  Thinking about getting a BitMan compatible unit. Hopefully the next wallet version would also become POS.

 Grin

GUN is NOT ASIC friendly by design (that is why we choose Neoscrypt) and will stay that way.  There are no plans to make the current GUN into POS any time soon.

One can always mine whatever they want, with whatever they can, and then buy Guncoin with their proceeds.

I kind of like to place some buys in at Cryptopia and then let the autominers sell into them, feels kind of like they are mining for me, LOL.

Paper wallet generator, Guncoin. If this real, very cool.

https://walletgenerator.net/?currency=Guncoin

Yep, very cool.
Paper wallets are a nice way to share Guncoin with others.
I have found that people really enjoy having something tangible in their hand while discussing this.
One of my favorite hobbies.
So much in fact, that I do have in the works a stand alone paper wallet generator coming for GUN.
Not giving any timelines, but it will happen.

If you are using that one, here are some hints.
This was copied from the text of an email sent to another GUN supporter.

In regard to the paper wallets, this may get a little long, but here goes:
There are a few ways to make paper wallets.
The easiest way at this time is to go to walletgenerator.net, find Guncoin, and just print some.
The best way though if you choose that way is to go the the website, then their github (I think, it's been a while and there may be a link) to download a copy of the site.
You would then do the usual unzip the folder, save it somewhere, etc...
Go offline when you do this next part..find and open the "index.html" file and now the website will function on your browser without being online.
You can generate from the site, while online, but the way described above may be safer, and a good practice in security.
It is a multi wallet generator where by default it will start with Bitcoin, but there are most others there too.
I have gone into the subfolders of that downloaded generator and replaced the stock guncoin.png images under "wallets" and "logos" with my own for a better background and current logo.
I will see if those can attach to this email if you want to give it a go.
Also, I went into the "index.html" file by opening it in notepad and changed the "blockchain.info" to "chainz.cryptoid.info/gun/" so the wallet prints info pertinent to Guncoin.
There is a find option that makes that part easy once the file is opened, and of course save the change afterward.
I always copy the receiving address into a notepad file so sending  GUN to them is a cut and paste thing.
One can also generate bulk address using that tab, copy/paste and do about anything with those.
That is my cold storage method, or print out on sticky paper, cut out, and add to whatever...birthday cards, pictures or wherever one may share an address, or copy paste into documents as I have of the Bill of Rights to give away.

I will see if I can attach a link to the images referenced to in the above.

(make sure to rename them both "guncoin.png" when replacing)
