We still appear to have over half of the wallets that are online running V1.1? I am curious as to why?
While the jump to GUN V1.2 is based on the Bitcoin 0.9 code is only a soft fork and compatible with V1.1, the jump to GUN V1.3 will advance our code significantly farther and will NOT be compatible with V1.1, only with V1.2. So in other words, our plan was to have a series of soft forks to advance our GUN code forward. However, for us to move to V1.3 and beyond, would be a hard fork for any users running V1.1 (not V1.2). So if you have not already upgraded to V1.2, please do so as soon as you can.
sorry, thought I had already upgraded but it was a different wallet. Took care of it, upgraded... thanks (edit) however, it appears the wallet is stuck at 8 hours now and wont sync any further The blockchain is the part that is stuck, not necessarily the wallet. Once the current mining issues are taken care of, the wallet should work fine. |

The usage of cryptos is mostly illegal even now, so I don't think that making firearms-oriented crypto will help this situation!
Hi, I do appreciate your opinion, and am sure it comes from a sincere viewpoint, but one of the great things about cryptocurrencies and gives them strength is that one can have "their own" coin. I am not quite sure how crypto's usage is mostly illegal for now, but am sure that there probably are many who would like to see it that way. The mainstream media can portray firearms in a bad light even though common sense says otherwise, and depending on public opinion, yes, a coin associated with guns may seem like a liability, but it can also represent the other side...common sense and freedoms, along with being something for the firearms industry/enthusiast to use. The problem is not guns, it's mental health. GunCoin can have it's own strengths. I believe that firearms do have a place in regard to protection, prevention of crime, sport, and freedoms. One of the great angles about GunCoin is that to me, it also helps represent the second amendment, without which, the others may be gone by now, or whittled away to nothing. |

LOL, GUN is a very stable coin that has been around and fully operational and being diligently mined for over 3 years. We have a full description of what was provided with this recent upgrade and the path forward in previous posts. Additionally, the release notes and our code are open to anyone to inspect. If GUN is a scam, it must be the longest running and least profitable of any to date, considering that it has to cost more than any returns taken, especially those to create/run/update website, wallets, etc.... and that's not including any remuneration for time spent/donated to make it all work. If one factors in the value that might be created someday for the users of GUN, there may be a good argument that GUN is almost free for the taking at the moment, buckets of coins, like empty shell casings on the ground, just gotta pick them up  It is good though, to be wary and ask questions since there are real scams about. |

I am running the mining from the wallet for fun. Will share if I get a block. By share do you mean the 150 GUN from finding the block? LOL HAHA, share that I found it. It's quite rare nowadays to be able to get a block via CPU mining. |

I updated mine to the newest version. Seems to work fine. I like that we can generate receive addresses without a passphrase, makes sense because why make it more difficult to receive money? Maybe that was in the old version too, but don't really remember now...moving forward. I am running the mining from the wallet for fun. Will share if I get a block. |

I seem to be seeing 28...29...30...31 sat quite regularly, with some dips of course, but a nice pattern.
32...33...34...+... I think you mean, "cents", not "sat". "Sat" is short for "Satoshi", as in the "smallest unit of Bitcoin". 0.00000001 BTC is one "sat" or one "Satoshi". https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Satoshi_%28unit%29Currently we are hovering just below 3000 sat, .00003000 BTC, or 3k sat. As Bitcoin climbs, one sat is more and more valuable. Many 'alts' can see higher USD price even as their sat price plummets. But that is just Bitcoin price growing faster than they plummet usually. Fortunately, EGC's sat price is holding its own. Our growth and resilience are amplified by BTC's growth. But yes, you're correct! The week is off to a great start! I believe that the price is....what we will make it to be. There is/can be deep loyalty with regard to the 2nd Amendment and firearm supporters. The sky may be the limit once the actual product/brand awareness is understood and Guncoin is implemented by those appreciating firearms and freedoms. Yes, the dev is active. In regard to the roadmap...basically a path forward, starting with the wallet updates. |

Thanks, it is always fun to check that with the various cards. I will try and find some where to put that link as I think it is pretty useful. Just to clarify again, this release was never meant to add everything in the world. Only to take a big step forward to solidifying the coin to make it more desirable for the local gun store. There is more to do in V1.3 which we will be starting on within a week or two after most people switch over and we know all is good. Once we get to where we want to be - hopefully, within 1-2 months with the next 1-2 releases, THEN we will build a mobile wallet - we have someone standing by to do that. But NOT until we do all we need to do as described in our previous post. Yep, I am glad for that....slow and steady. Looking forward to introducing Guncoin a little more seriously in the future at my local Firearms/Sporting Goods stores. |

I am pleased to release the most current version of Guncoin - GUN V1.2. As I have said before, this is an interim release as a soft fork. While it is not mandatory that everyone upgrade with V1.2, it is recommended that they do. You will find it is far superior to V1.1 and much more efficient and functional. It is very simple to use - once it is loaded, let it sync on its own, there are seed nodes built into the system now and it only takes about an hour to download the entire block chain now. You will notice a new splash screen and a few extra features and options available in the wallet itself. It is available on the OP or the website for Windows and Apple/MAC. This release does NOT include any Linux versions. We chose NOT to do those at this time, but will have those available in the next release.
Having polled the community in recent months, there was no clear consensus as to the best path forward as to what should be included. So moving forward, to us, it seemed the logical best path forward at this time was to :
1) Modernize the coin and wallet to meet or beat all the current crypto currency technology standards, while applying lessons learned from other coins and several years of technological advancements as the crypto currency market matured.
2) Secure and protect the coin and its users from those who would seek to disrupt the normal course of crypto currency business transactions surrounding our coin. With this I refer to the blockchain, your wallets and the day to day transactions that GUN is and will be used for.
3) Simplify the startup process for the new user or the first-time crypto currency novice (ie, working seed nodes, faster wallet, self-executing WIN setup, etc.) - you will notice the config file is greatly simplified.
4) Improve the efficiency and speed of the wallet itself and add a few new features where possible. (V1.2 can create a fresh wallet and download the entire block chain in a little over an hour.)
Those are in order of priority as well. So those may sound like some very vague and generic goals. However, in reality they are very specific and without them and the changes they bring internally, the coin would go nowhere and be unsafe to use (as many smaller coins out there are today). With this series of upgrades starting with GUN V1.2, GUN moves a step closer to being one of the more efficient, technologically advanced and secure coins in the crypto currency world today. THAT is a much easier sale to a newbie gunshop owner than we have ever seen before.
To do all this is not simple. It is costly, tedious and time consuming and dangerous to roll all of that into one release and dump it as hard fork on an unsuspecting community, exchanges and pools. As such, we are going to roll it all out in what we think is a very well tested series of releases (probably 2-3) over the next 6-8 weeks - maybe sooner if all goes well. Of course, we are still a Neoscrypt coin - absolutely no changes there - we are thrilled to be one of the small number of Neoscrypt coins and are still convinced that is the right algorithm and direction for GUN.
As for the rest of the details of what is in GUN V1.2, for those who are very familiar with our code, you know V1.1 and earlier was based on bitcoin 0.8. After the release of V1.2, we will be closer to or a little past 0.9. Since bitcoin 1.3 is floating around out there now, it is not hard to figure out what comes next. More details are in the Release notes on GitHub. I am not a big fan of published roadmaps - it makes it easy for someone to change the signs or lay landmines in front of you. For the most part, this upgrade is a major step forward for GUN and our community.....there is more to come. Please spread the word. As always, I appreciate your patience and support.
This is great to see. It may not be flashy news to some, but having a more secure blockchain to help security and make this a more solid coin sounds like the way to go. I see no problems with timing releases to ensure the best transition forward. There is no reason to rush things, and many reasons to not. Downloaded the new wallet and it did sync in about an hour on a computer that had never seen the GUN blockchain before. Didn't have to worry about a config file setup. This was an extremely easy install, and hopefully so to any newcomers. |

I see that we have some updated info on the OP.
The block reward schedule I believe is a good one.
We'll have a bunch of coins total, but not too much where one might say "Oh my, there are too many coins", but yet plenty enough so when this gets more use we won't need to worry about decimal places for quite some time.
Also.....nice to see that GUN is still in a relatively early block reward phase, so any newcomers shouldn't feel left out in regard to mining, since nobody likes missing the boat.
