201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [$XVG] VERGE [POW][MultiAlgo][BLACKHOLE][Entire Line of TOR/i2P Resources] on: July 04, 2016, 08:18:30 AM
Not trying to complicate things, but in regard to wallets:

I have not seen coin control in the latest wallet version that I use, maybe it is there, but I just haven't found it?

That seems like a nice option to have if I want to import a paper wallet, since I could then move the coins to another address to "sweep" them.

Example: I import a paper wallets private keys....I get more coins in my wallet....but how do I know that the one who gave me the paper wallet won't use those particular private keys themselves first unless they are moved to another address, and how do I do that without coin control?

Speaking of private keys...
I do not understand why one should need to unlock a wallet in order to import them.
It makes sense prior to sending, but why make it harder to bring coins in?
It feels like my bank, possibly asking for I.D. before a deposit...just take the money!

Maybe these could be options?

A related thought...something to consider may be to add private key importation to the VERGE web wallet?
One might import private keys there without doing the console stuff, then send to a chosen address in their own wallet, or it may also give recipients of XVG paper wallets an easy option to use their coins.
202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - New NeoScrypt Algorithm on: June 25, 2016, 04:10:42 PM
I'll pay for an updated block explorer and keep it paid as long as there is development. That can be my part. Just get me the info on whoever you want to use.

Just get it set up and send us the link - Thanks!

New Block Explorer

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/gun/

Paid for 1 year.

Remember this? Page has never been changed.

I do, and use it quite often to look at the state of what is happening with GUN.

The prepayment for those services was a nice donation for GUN users to have that information available.

The OP of this thread needs to be updated, so that it is more readily accessible to those who don't know about this.

It looks like I called the "block reward reduction", a halving a while back.

Nice to see the rewards at 150 currently, not 100, making it better for more to experience extended higher rewards for their efforts.

Not many can say they didn't have a chance to "get in early".

BTW, what is the reward schedule?
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [$XVG] VERGE [POW][MultiAlgo][BLACKHOLE][Entire Line of TOR/i2P Resources] on: June 22, 2016, 09:16:53 PM
Hey also had a question on our XVG choice.  Bitcoin is BTC, Ethereum is ETH, The DAO is DAO, Lisk is LSK and others of course.

Just wondering as I know we discussed this when we changed.  We went with X because we could be listed on more exchanges, but wondering if that is hurting us in anyway on not being named in line like other larger coins.  They seem to all be on more exchanges than us, but we went with the X so we could be on more.  Doesn't appear we are there so just wondering why?

Bitcoin also uses XBT to be in accordance with the ISO code on currencies - non-country currencies stay with X, so gold is XAU, Bitcoin is XBT, Monero adopted XMR about two years ago shortly after it launched, and many other cryptos have followed suit. I think Ripple XRP or primecoin XPM may have been first after Bitcoin, not really sure.

XVG is good.

I don't believe we went with XVG for more listings, we went with XVG thinking long term, and future use.

Interesting, I thought most people selling cryptos wanted the most for their coins.

Just watched someone earlier dump/sell into 2 sat at Bittrex, while there are buy orders on Cryptopia at 3 sat, and Exchangedi2p at 4 sat.

 Huh

Essential VERGE listening:

https://www.mixcloud.com/dogedradio/dogeddev-on-dogecoindark-doged/

Dogedarkdev on Rick Stoner's Dogecoindark/Cryptoafterdark Radio podcast last year.

That was a good listen.
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [$XVG] VERGE [POW][MultiAlgo][BLACKHOLE][Entire Line of TOR/i2P Resources] on: June 07, 2016, 11:42:51 PM
I had a thought, maybe more like a shadow of an idea not quite formulated, since I do not understand much of the TOR and i2p stuff and how it actually works. It is on my list though, and one of the reasons I gained an interest in Verge.
It seems that XVG is set on being the best crypto in regard to privacy.
That is what it appears the dark web is also for... some privacy.
I imagine you would have to be acting as a peer (if that is the correct terminology) and be on the dark web to use the dedicated TOR or i2p wallets, so why not reward dark web wallet users somehow for keeping the tunnels open with a reward built into those wallets? A reward proportional to the access granted/time open, maybe a special black hole service fee? Something, somehow, to give another reason to use them.
Promoting privacy... by rewarding the access to privacy.
Or maybe I am thinking of something like nodes to run, that you get paid for, that benefit the dark web somehow.
XVG could become, not only the digital currency to use on the dark web, but a currency that helps the dark web function by bringing greater power to it while also being remunerated for that service.
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XVG] Verge - Speculation & Discussion on: May 29, 2016, 04:12:25 PM
5 satoshis.

http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/verge/

time maybe for a rethink about the number of coins perhaps......

The closest reasonable idea that I saw, to contemplate only, not implement, was to knock the right hand decimals down to two points (make it feel more like dollars), but there is no need to mess with the coin supply.
I believe that would make Verge look unstable, like it didn't know what it was.
We would probably see 2 sat if the number of coins changed.
209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - New NeoScrypt Algorithm on: May 27, 2016, 06:58:22 PM
I know that I am here long term and it's one of my favorite cryptos.
To me it is a statement also, to help support a fundamental right.

Enough soapboxing....

I contacted CoinMarketCap to see if they could update the available coin supply since it looks like they were using a defunct block explorer for their info.
Let's see what happens.
Should bump us up a bit higher in market cap if/when they do.
210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Guncoin(GUN) - New NeoScrypt Algorithm on: May 25, 2016, 08:09:41 PM
Block 500,000 getting close.

Looks like reward halving coming up in about a week or so?

GUN has had, and is still in, a very long "early adopter" initial block reward phase.

edit: ran my wallet again to mine the other day, got another block in a couple of hours
That was simple, and fun. Smiley

211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XVG] Verge - Speculation & Discussion on: May 25, 2016, 06:31:57 PM
That makes no sense at all.

the mining was just halved, so its less coins being made now.

most of the coins out there, make what they are specified to make.

maybe its just how you structure your statements...well nm. i'll just hold that to myself.

I get how that shouldn't make sense....but it appears to keep happening is what I am saying.  I don't understand why people are willing to sell this low, but so far the sell walls just keep stacking.  I am only Speculating on what the market is doing is all.  I just wish we had some marketing behind out coin so people out there know it is the best!!  Need more eyes and hands on this to get the prices back, just can't seem to figure out again why people are selling this low and prices keep dropping.

I believe that Goldmoney brings up some good points.

Some may sell this low because they see the price not rising for a while and want to make money chasing the next coin that may be pumped.

Speaking about pumping, I doubt if that helps any coin.
It makes it look as if the "investors" only want to make a quick profit, which would obviously be at the expense of newcomers.

Many also probably bought in at a few satoshis and are still doubling or tripling their investment.

Whats funny...when you say it, it makes sense...  but when Goldmoney says similar... its different.  Thats why i said something about how its structured..ie: tone  etc.  makes a difference Smiley

just pointing that out.  My thoughts have no bearing Smiley

g

I enjoy how we are all supporters of Verge, but have slightly different angles on what's going on, or how we explain or relate.

That builds more strength in my opinion.

i have budget arround $250
i want to ask wich is better , buying XVG or buying new R9 380x to mining XVG ?
anyone know how much XVG can i get per day if i use R9 380x full time ? 24/7 ?

If it helps, I have used an an R9-290x.
It mined myr-groestl at a little over 36Mh/s.
You could look at mining pool info and see what is earned per Mh/s and figure out the current return proportionally.
Looks like that $250 will get you about 8,000,000 XVG at this moment.
It also looks like each Mh/s is receiving about 475 XVG per day at this moment.
That would get me, about 17000 XVG per day.
Which would take about 470 days to mine that 8,000,000 at the present reward value and difficulty.
If you just want the XVG, might be better to buy, but things change, and if you want to have fun mining, well....there is value there too.

I think XVG will get onto Poloniex in the future.
Not by coin requests though, but by gaining popularity and volume.
Let them come to us.
215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AUR] Auroracoin market observer on: May 16, 2016, 12:33:46 AM
It looks like Cryptopia is back on track.

Couldn't withdraw AUR for a while due to the recent fork and upgrade (yeah, to me AUR has absolutely been upgraded with the multi-algo and better block times), but now Cryptopia works great again as an option for purchasing.
216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [$XVG] VERGE [POW][MultiAlgo][BLACKHOLE][Entire Line of TOR/i2P Resources] on: May 15, 2016, 04:54:25 AM
not liking what i'm hearing about Bleutrade here Sad

I have used/use Bleutrade for trading, including XVG.
It might be good if there was a win/win way to keep Verge listed there.
That said, the withdrawal of my XVG as they requested went fine.

edit: I am a little confused here... were they just asking to withdraw coins for maintenance?
217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: - AURORACOIN - on: May 10, 2016, 02:41:46 PM
Just chiming in to say that I am glad to see a moderated thread and agree with Cryptide regarding non-constructive posts.

The professionalism exhibited by the AUR team in my opinion has been exemplary and lends credence to the AUR project.
218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [$XVG] VERGE [POW][MultiAlgo][BLACKHOLE][Entire Line of TOR/i2P Resources] on: May 08, 2016, 02:03:38 AM
Excellent coin with an amazing developer but with one single major flaw.

Too many coins.

I will get a lot of hate and post might get deleted but sometimes tough love is what's needed.

most of our coins have already been produced.. we're only making something like 9 million coins a day now.

it's not made to get everyone rich right away, it's a privacy tool/currency, designed to be open to anyone.

I respect your opinion since with a lower quantity it may appear to be more scarce, therefore more valuable, but I do not believe that Verge has "too many" coins.

A bigger issue could be if there were "too few" coins, which would necessitate the need to go into the decimals to use them, which would work of course, but be less convenient.

If something costs 15 XVG, 150 XVG, 1500 XVG, or 15000 XVG, it doesn't seem that big a deal, where .00015 XVG may be.

Long term, having more coins may be a benefit when Verge's distribution increases.

It may even be psychologically advantageous since it feels kind of good to have a bunch of something, even though a lower quantity could have the same value.

Getting close to 50% of the daily volume on ISX. http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/auroracoin/#markets

It's picking up nicely.

I think it will dwarf the volume on bittrex soon.

How do I become a citizen of Iceland? ;-)

Here you go molecular

http://utl.is/index.php/en/icelandic-citizenship

So, you have to live in icland for 7 years and right after that you can start to trade on isx.is!)

You can also just come here in 1-2 years and have money to spend! How about paying for your hotel, flight, and all restaurants in 2 years with Auroracoin.

That sounds like a very good way to use AUR and to get more of it circulating in the Icelandic economy.

Probably some other spin offs too, such as a possible increase in tourism and other/additional money spent.

This may sound like a noob question, but can someone point me toward instructions on how to use the windows non-gui wallet?

its actually identical to using a linux daemon.

basically, as long as you have a VERGE.conf in your blockchain/wallet directory - on windows it's in C:\users\(your user)\AppData (appdata is hidden, go to organize\folder+search options\view\show hiddenfiles)\Roaming\VERGE\

then you can run it like VERGEd -daemon  (wait a bit for it to start up) then once you get a command prompt again, you can do VERGEd help for a full list of commands. either way though, a windows wallet will be out today, but it may or may not have the radio player built in. that's what is keeping it up. last night i compiled Qt 5.6 from their git repo, and it took several hours. when i woke up i realized it had used the remaineder of the virtual hard drive i was working on (it used something like 20gb)

please dont think i'm slacking on the win/android wallets, i assure you i'm working on them around the clock, quite literally.. there's just been a lot of little hurdles with windows, qt, and streaming mp3s..

windows wallet will be out today, even if i have to take the radio out temporarily, and compile it with 5.2 or 5.4, and then continue working on it after.

Thanks,

I figured out the adding of the conf file by taking a quick screenshot before it disappeared, and was then able to read the message to do so.

Will let it run a while longer and see how that works (Since I didn't wait much).

I don't see any slacking at all, and actually am enjoying the figuring out of this stuff.
