201  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: hito - New Hardware Wallet Open Source on: March 05, 2024, 08:40:42 PM
I get pretty skeptical when a crypto wallet company says their software is open source but then does not actually share the source code.  That just seems fishy.  It makes me wonder what they are trying to hide if the code is really open source like they claim.  There wouldnt be any reason not to post it somewhere public, right? If independent experts cannot review the code, how can we actually know if the wallet is secure or not? That kind of opacity around the source just rubs me the wrong way when it comes to trusting a wallet and  Id be way more likely to trust one where the codes easy to access.
202  Economy / Speculation / Re: When is next significant correction coming? on: March 04, 2024, 10:16:02 PM
I was waiting for a good moment to do that for about 3 weeks and in terms of buying the dip it ain't looking good.

Just for the past 3 weeks? Some of us have been waiting for the past year or so. Without much success.
Im starting to think dip wont even come to the party anymore.

The election in America will take place on February 10, 2024. That's just 6 days away.

That is not true. You are misinformed.
203  Economy / Gambling / Re: An open letter to Eddie from Stake with lots of shares on Reddit on: March 04, 2024, 09:37:54 PM
I can guess what was there though. Was it a post from yet another addicted gambler who lost a lot of money and saying that gambling should banned everywhere? You are asking about my opinion, @Get-Paid.com? Here it is: Gambling should not be banned. Since some people, a minority, can't control their greed and suffer because of it, the vast majority of gamblers, responsible gamblers, shouldn't suffer because of the ban.

In fact, this 'concerned citizen' claims to have won a cool few million at the casino, yet feels compelled to air his grievances in a public letter targeting a single gambling platform. Sounds legit, right?

Quote
Completely agree. Online casinos, and crypto casinos like stake in particular, have absolutely changed the face of gambling in the US and addiction rates are skyrocketing everywhere because of it. As short as a few years ago, it was easy to watch a game on tv and not really notice the ads. But today? Every commercial break there’s a gambling add pushing the idea of winning vast sums at the click of a button through an instantly downloadable app.

It’s absolutely mind boggling how quickly the gambling landscape has changed and the country as a whole, and men from age 15-35 or so in particular, are wholly unprepared for it. These guys (and ladies) start with a few small sports bets or .10 spins on a slot and next thing they’re behind on all their bills, their accounts overdrawn and every credit card and other source of money is tapped out. It’s as bad as drug addiction and this is coming from someone who was an opiate addict for 10+ years. Compared to my addiction, the gambling addicts I know hit rock bottom in less than a quarter of the time and hide it better until then. So when it does come out, their problem is the equivalent of a familial nuclear bomb.

So is gambling fun? Sure. Can it be done it moderation? No question. But is it also extremely addictive and potentially a national hazard if we don’t properly control the industry? Absolutely. And so far we have let online casinos run rampant and that leaves the future looking like trouble

The post got deleted, but I checked the comments, and this one got my attention, and I have to agree with this guy!

I tend to agree too.  Ads seem to be everywhere these days.  But should we really point fingers at gambling companies? Would getting rid of gambling somehow make ads go away? Gambling companies are certainly not saints, but it is still a legitimate industry and we cannot ignore that ad agencies and media platforms are the real winners here.
204  Economy / Gambling / Re: An open letter to Eddie from Stake with lots of shares on Reddit on: March 03, 2024, 08:19:19 PM
I may likely deviate also from the open water is where the writer mentioned gambling as a tool for terrorism, this is quite confusing a bit for me

The writer was using a sort of a metaphor.
Terrorists kill people and destroy things.

For God's sake, he equated the casino owner with a terrorist and called him one of the most dangerous people on the planet. That was not a metaphor!

He was implying Eddie supposedly is killing an entire generation by getting them addicted.
Hope it makes sense now.

Blaming the gambling industry for addiction is about as logical as blaming breweries for drunk drivers, or worse, the bartenders who serve them.  What happened to taking responsibility for your own actions these days?  That dude is probably just a sore loser and needs to get over it. Blaming everyone else for his own mistakes is not gonna win him any money.
205  Economy / Reputation / Re: Opinions on the word "Vouch" on: March 03, 2024, 07:55:34 PM
Throughout my whole life I have always thought that if you "vouch" for someone, then you are telling people that you trust that person. You also agree to take responsibility for that persons actions.

Now to my question. If you "vouch" for someone that they are trustworthy and they take a loan, is the person who vouched putting their reputation on the line? If you didn't trust a person to repay, why would you "vouch" for them?

Curious to see what others say about this.

You make a fair point.  Vouching for someone means putting your own reputation on the line to speak to their character or credibility.  However, it does not equal blanket endorsement of everything they might ever do.  The scope matters.  For instance, I could vouch that someone is honest in a particular situation without claiming they will never tell a lie.  Its circumstantial and  Im sticking my neck out based on what I know of them in that moment or context.

Even honest people sometimes fail their own standards.  So vouching is not a lifelong guarantee as much as staking my belief in who they are, right then and there.
206  Economy / Economics / Re: Some people acts stranded and in need of the ways for breakthrough but not ready on: March 02, 2024, 07:40:24 PM
Your buddy is looking to make some fast cash.  I beleive we have all been there before.  But real talk, that quick money rarely just falls in your lap.  Making decent money usually requires putting in work and taking some risks over time.  You mentioned investing.  Now that can pay off down the road, no doubt.  But 6 months, a year - that may not line up with what your friend has in mind.  And you never know which way those investments gonna go.

Maybe, instead of seeking a quick solution, your buddy could benefit from some self-reflection on his skills and what types of work he would be willing to put in the effort for in the long run.
207  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seeds Bitcoin on: March 02, 2024, 06:45:32 PM
what about you? Have you ever looked for your recovery words, or even your wallet, everywhere?

Never had this happen to me with Bitcoin, but I have owned a bunch of different wallets for altcoins over the years.  Some of those altcoins just didnt pan out or I lost interest, so there were a few wallets I just deleted and have no way to recover now.  Not real smart, I know you should never totally lose access to a wallet but I wanted a clean break from some failed projects.  I honestly couldnt even tell you where those old seed phrases are now.  It is not best practice, but when an altcoin goes belly up or I just have no use for it anymore, I dont want the reminder sitting around.  Who knows, maybe some of them will randomly shoot up in value one day and Ill be kicking myself but I doubt it.  Most likely those wallets are gone for good along with those shitcoins.  Like I said, not recommending it, but it is what it is.
208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How can I obtain Bitcoin test coins? on: March 02, 2024, 06:20:46 PM
The same mnemonic generates two addresses on the test network:

A single mnemonic phrase isnt limited to just two addresses. BIP32 and BIP39 standards, established long ago, allow a single set of words to generate a vast number of addresses within your wallet.

It's easy to receive test coins at tb1q..., but tb1p... cannot receive them.
Why is this?

As OmegaStarScream said, your second address is Taproot.
See also https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/List_of_address_prefixes

How can I obtain Bitcoin test coins?

Mainly through faucets. Or you can ask someone to send/borrow you testnet coins. Or you can simply send it yourself from one address to another. Why do you need testnetcoins on multiple addresses, anyway?

My friend gave me a wallet.dat file that was on his old computer. His computer was burnt, but the disk is still alive with the wallet.dat file on it. The file was transferred to my personal computer,

Why would someone give you his wallet instead of recovering it on his own on another PC?

Quote
but there is a problem.

of course there is

Quote
Some people have told me that the wallet.dat file is corrupted.
Are these people telling the truth?

The people who say how much is in the wallet claim there is 689 BTC.
How do they know how much there is?

Which people? Did they also have access to the wallet.dat file?

Quote
The transactions that my friend made appear with the date 1970.1.1.

Where do you see that?

Quote
I really don't know what that is; I'm not into BTC or trading.

The important thing is, my friend said whoever can solve this problem will be given 12 BTC as a reward.

Whoever solves that "problem" will have full access to the funds on the wallet. Why would he settle for "only" a 12 BTC reward?

210  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which of these betting Statements Do you Agree or Disagree With? on: March 01, 2024, 09:41:26 PM
1. Don't bet all your money on one bet.

I agree. Placing all your money on one bet is playing with fire.  It's wise to spread out your bets - that way if one goes south, you have still got skin in the game with others.

Quote
2. Bet the same amount on every bet.

I disagree: It is generally not ideal betting strategy.

Quote
3. Don't bet more than once a day.

I disagree. How often you roll the dice depends on you. However,  it is good to set some limits and stick to them. Dont chase losses.

Quote
4. Don't bet every day.

I agree. At the end of the day, gambling should spice up your life not become it.
211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me out starting out my bitcoin and musical journey on: March 01, 2024, 09:01:14 PM
I dont know what will struck me about this technology in a month because there is so much to it, but as an artistically oriented person I want to delve into it and have gear necessary to do it, with more space than the previous one and some livability.

Thats still weirdly vague and doesnt explain what your goal really is.

I want to connect these two things especially that basic music software from apple is something that I tend to use and I am used to that hardware too.

As a programmer/computer scientist you might look for practicality in its own terms, I know, it might not always work with things like music and art in general from my perspective, but yes maybe I should consider getting a windows laptop for a while.

Your old laptop is obviously still functional, so you can continue to use it, even if you get a new windows (or linux) PC.

By the way, there has to be some field of connecting artists and cryptocurrency economy and development other than NFT, is it somewhere underground or am I just a new weirdo?

Look, NFTs may be a hot garbage right now, and everyone wants to jump on that bandwagon, but all of that has very little to do with Bitcoin.  If you are a skilled artist, and you want to make a living out of it,  you can connect with the "crypto" economy in the same way you connect with the traditional, debt-based monetary economy.
212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Hey, I am new here and looking for 100% LEGAL/TRUSTWORTHY coin/token project on: February 29, 2024, 09:06:58 PM
Could someone help me to find out , how can I be involved in the community so I can hear news about ICO ? thanks Wink Wink Wink Wink

ICOs used to seem like a smart way to invest, but not anymore.  Too many turned out to be scams or lost people's money, so,  better to read up first before throwing your cash around.  The CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko websites have lots of articles explaining cryptocurrencies and blockchain projects.  Get some basics under your belt before picking any projects to back.  Who knows, maybe youll even find a decent one that will bring you a profit, but you have to do your own research.
213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If everyone is holding their bitcoin, will there be a balance? on: February 29, 2024, 08:46:52 PM
While a scenario where nobody sells Bitcoin seems highly unlikely, it is worth considering if such a situation would render Bitcoin a complete failure. While it wouldnt necessarily be 'worthless,' its functionality as a currency would be non-existent.  But as others have rightly pointed out, that will never happen.  Even the most rarest things in the world are up for sale... For the right price.
214  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me out starting out my bitcoin and musical journey on: February 29, 2024, 08:23:10 PM
I ask if you’d like to support me, the cost is around 800 dollars, I’m also open to redirecting a laptop from the shop without sending cash

Macs are generally more expensive than Windows or Linux based systems. Why not go for one of these if you cannot afford a new Mac laptop? When you earn enough cash, you can always switch back again.
215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Pangolin on: February 28, 2024, 11:00:06 PM
Hey,
~

Hey, congrats on your Pangolin journey so far!  As much as we would all love to see our investments rebound again, the truth is it could also dip further.   I tend to take a fairly conservative investing approach - if something surged in value by a certain amount, I usually take a bit of profit and wait if I can buy back later.  But thats just what works for me and my risk tolerance; you should ultimately do what feels right for your own goals and circumstances.

Wishing you the best with your investments!
216  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The Bitmex exchange is a scam. on: February 28, 2024, 10:21:49 PM
Bitmex has no representative in our country. Hiring a lawyer can be very costly and risky.

I think thats a bullshit response. Hiring a lawyer to at least present your case and seek legal advice is not that expensive no matter where you live. You mention 1.68 BTC that was confiscated from you on the exchange - thats a lot of money! Meeting with a lawyer just to scope things out shouldnt cost much up front and  thatll help figure if its worth fighting the exchange over this.  Unless theres more to this that makes you think theres no case against them to begin with.

For now I've opened an X account and I'm trying to humiliate them, but I'm at the very beginning.

That wont help you at all, and unless you provide some hard evidence, very few people will believe your story anyway.
217  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit Abuse / Account farm on: February 28, 2024, 10:00:39 PM
Likely someone associated with both users and didn't want them mad at him. Wonder what they did to piss him off?
Yeah, that is curious indeed.  It could also be that OP is fishing for merits himself.
~

I do not think he would do that with a brand new account. It is obvious that the OP created this account specifically for this purpose, so very likely someone who does not want to expose his main account with something like this,
218  Other / Meta / Re: Hey Theymos, There Should Be a Demotion Button on: February 27, 2024, 09:04:12 PM
The fact remains that I attempted to sell just one account before I realized that a better way of making money off the forum is through services. I've since earned close to or more than $20,000.
~

Sure, buddy... Sounds like a great story!  It explains the cheating with alt accounts on those bounty campaigns for a lousy ten bucks here and there. Grin
219  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should AI replace VAR? on: February 27, 2024, 07:31:53 PM
AI is not some magic solution for fixing all of VAR's problems.  Dont get me wrong - using AI could help make some better video review calls in soccer.  But we gotta be realistic here.  AI is only as good as what data you feed it during training and  if that data is biased or incomplete, you end up with an AI ref that makes crap calls.  Like, it might incorrectly call marginal offsides because its model never saw enough examples of tight calls going either way.

Not saying AI and tech cant improve parts of VAR - just that it cant eliminate human error or bias from officiating entirely.  People act like AI will solve everything if we just let the bots take over.  Nah.  AI still has plenty of kinks to work out before we get there.
220  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin portrays less risk of financial transaction than other investment system on: February 27, 2024, 07:23:55 PM
When investing in any venture, there are always risks involved.  However, most people aim to choose options that minimize the chance of losing their financial stake.  Knowledge brings empowerment.  So for those looking to dip their toes into digitalassets, Bitcoin can offer a sensible starting point with its track record of security and increasing adoption.  As with any investment risks exist but can be mitigated through learning and making wise decisions.
