2001  Economy / Gambling / Re: Would you support a collective boycott of all Russian gambling platforms? on: February 27, 2022, 10:37:42 PM
In general, I understand what the majority of people here are saying. There is no doubt that civilians or Russian businesses are not directly responsible for any of this, and I am certainly not one who would say that. Yet virtually every country in the world is imposing sanctions against Russia as a whole. We can debate who brought Putin to power and who can take him down, but it doesn't matter at this point.

In truth, war stinks and the citizens of Ukraine are not responsible either, and yet they will suffer the most. Is that fair?

Imagine what would happen if we started going this way. If you had a friend who is Russian, would you stop talking to him? If you had an employee who comes from Russia, would you fire him? I hate what's being done and Putin should be put in prison or killed for ordering this massacre along with Lavrov, Peskov and the rest of his lap dogs, but Putin does not represent every single Russian.
If you have the means to stop it, like Russian parliament, and don't do it, you are responsible for these deaths. If you can't stop it, like 90% of citizens, you shouldn't be ostracized.
2002  Economy / Gambling / Re: sportsbet.io lowers my odds !!!!! on: February 27, 2022, 10:13:28 PM
The thread should be locked for now since the admin already answered this issue, the starter of the thread have been advised to lock the thread and update us when the whole issue with the account has been resolved or the outcome of Steve's investigation and the final decisions.

It's been a week. I'm not here to undermine their ability to do their job, but come on, we all see what's going on. I've had numerous encounters with various support technicians and it takes literally hours to check database and find if his odds were modified or not. If they claim it to be a misunderstanding, they should make it so his odds are the same on any account. Lowering odds because he won some money in the past is cheating and if I found that a casino is doing it to my account, I'd leave and play somewhere else. There's plenty of sites where support doesn't take a week to investigate an issue and where you have even odds all day long.
2003  Economy / Gambling / Re: Would you support a collective boycott of all Russian gambling platforms? on: February 27, 2022, 10:03:25 PM
One one hand yes, because we all want to show solidarity. On the other hand no, because these people did not have any influence over Putin's decisions. Even soldiers who are fighting now had little to say.
Many were tricked and thought they were going out to train near the border and then one day the order came to cross it and go deeper into Ukraine. What could they do? Jump out of a moving tank saying I'm not going?

I feel like we should boycott all companies related to the Russian State. All their politicians, news outlets, banks, airlines, but not people who want to make a living and could be against this war.
2004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia cut off from Swift is fantastic opportunity for bitcoin on: February 27, 2022, 09:44:39 PM
I looked like it was a great chance for Bitcoin before there were only thoughts to cut off from SWIFT. But as soon as it was really done, crypto price has dropped significantly. I can see that Bitcoin has lost more than a thousand in one hour. Honestly, this does not look like a "great chance to buy low", that looks like something dangerous, complicated, unknown. Could Russia be completely cut of the Internet? If yes, then there is no use for them to switch to Bitcoin payment.

And what is 1k USD? It also gained more than 1k on thursday - that's called volatility. We are also -50% from the top which is making people fearful, so don't expect the price to rally back to the ATH just like that. We are going to stay here for a moment until the war ends. People who are afraid of a world war won't be keen on investing. I see that as a mistake, but unfortunately the majority dictates where the market goes.

2005  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ukraine president a patriot or a mad man? on: February 27, 2022, 09:12:01 PM
There are several angles in seeing this. Russian Army respects civilians and will not hurt them but arm forces only because they know it's a war crime.
https://ua.interfax.com.ua/news/general/802770.html
We can count this one out.

They don't care if it's a war crime. A family was shot on the street with parents and one child dead on site and 2 other children taken to hospital.

Even Vitalik knows how to handle Putin's trolls.

2006  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ukraine president a patriot or a mad man? on: February 27, 2022, 01:28:34 AM
Some Russian soldiers are turning back, they don't want to kill innocent civilians.

https://twitter.com/tanjamaier17/status/1497657141422968836

They don't want to participate in this blast from the past 'invasion'.

Kudos to them.  Putin is probably losing it just about right now.

Great thing to see. There was a video of people doing the same thing with bigger tanks like T70, also standing in front of them and you could see that Russians did not want to run them over, but were asking them to move and trying to slowly push through the crowd. People are inherently good, just mislead at times, fearful and emotional.

There are some examples of bad people though, like the Chechens who attacked Ukraine for no reason. People who just were fighting with Russia went to kill in its name, but instead got themselves killed just hours after entering Ukraine.  insteadhttps://twitter.com/visegrad24/status/1497709140549902339

I've read that Putin expected this to take up to 4 days before Zelensky flees and Kiev is taken.
2007  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Where is Putin Getting the Guts to Invade Ukraine? on: February 27, 2022, 01:04:14 AM
Here and there I have spent some time in Russia because my father was had an engineering job here and also I have some relatives who live there.
The highest percentage of the Russian population is alcoholic, they'll do every damn thing to not experience alcohol withdrawal and have a bottle of Vodka at hand.
I've seen that. Road workers are hired to work at night, but they just work for maybe half of their shift and then they sleep drunk in their trucks till morning. That's why nothing is ever done in that country and roads are full of holes.
I've seen a video from a guy who travelled through Russia and came into a village to ask for directions, but there was nobody around. He finally met an old lady who explained to him that it's Saturday afternoon and everybody is drunk at home at this hour. Cheesy

It wouldn't surprise me if he goes for other nearby countries, such as Belarus, Sweden or Finland, western countries that do not belong in the NATO and could potentially be an easier target. He has already threatened Finland and Sweden if they decided to enter NATO.

Finland is going to vote on joining NATO very soon.
2008  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ukraine president a patriot or a mad man? on: February 27, 2022, 12:50:00 AM

Yes, too much false news from ukraniens general and western media. First CNN reported that the Russian navy slaughtered 13 Ukrainian armed personnel from the sneak island but today Russian media shows with proof they are not dead and there were 80 men on that island. Ukrainians are hiding their casualties. I saw a video clip where a full Ukraine convoy was destroyed and soldier flash is burning. Too little news about the actual events.

What about Russians who blocked social media so that people wouldn't spread videos of their equipment being destroyed?
What about a Russian news outlet that showed a list of Russian losses and then deleted everything?

Just watch the videos and pictures, don't focus on written news. You can't fake Russian tanks burning on streets and soldiers standing next to their vehicles that run out of fuel.
I've seen numerous artilery units from howitzers to mobile missile launch platforms abandoned. Of course Ukrainians are losing people too, but Russia was claiming to have one of the best armies in the world and that army is now leaving tons of scrap on roadsides.
2009  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: February 25, 2022, 09:43:01 PM
There is a report that Russia is willing to have peace talks with Ukrainian leadership.

Separately, western governments are saying that it appears the invasion is moving more slowly than Russia had anticipated.

It's a lie by Putin.
He wanted to buy time because his forces are trying to locate Ukrainian president and his family and kill them. At least that's what Ukrainian intelligence said a few hours after Putin's press secretary claimed they're open to peace talks and guess what, another couple hours later Putin says that press secretary acted independently and he doesn't really want to discuss anything else but a total capitulation.
2010  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is the possibility that US will join the war between Russia and Ukraine? on: February 25, 2022, 08:44:12 PM
They won't get involved until some US troops start dying.
Well, no US troops can die if they aren't deployed in Ukraine  Wink

The attack on any NATO member nation is what I think will trigger US to get involved directly, and Putin knows that.

That's what I meant. US jets are flying along the Polish border. It's enough if one Russian missile loses coordinates and goes for them, pretty much like when they shot down that Malaysian flight.
Such attacks are already taking place. I've read that Russian missiles hit 3 transport ships on the Black Sea (One yesterday and 2 today). https://splash247.com/two-more-ships-hit-in-the-black-sea/
2011  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What will be the next big industry move? on: February 25, 2022, 08:36:55 PM
I feel like Physical casinos are going to slowly disappear. It can take another 50 years or so, but eventually online gambling will take over completely just like online gaming is taking over. Nowadays people prefer to play social games like poker via computer which tells a lot about the direction in which the industry is going.
30 years ago people weren't ordering food online or gambling online. All they were doing was chatting with people and sending emails, Now you do everything online: date, gamble, get food, play games, have video conferences with people, watch streams and movies, work. This is winning because people are lazy and prefer to gamble in their underwear eating pizza than ding it in a crowded casino. Also, covid doesn't make physical casinos more popular.
2012  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is the possibility that US will join the war between Russia and Ukraine? on: February 25, 2022, 07:37:47 PM
I think US made it clear that they won't be directly involved in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

They won't get involved until some US troops start dying. Then they'll have to make a decision to either withdraw completely, or move more troops into Europe.
IMO Biden doesn't want to get involved because he wants Russia to do the same in case of a US-China conflict. I hope you remember when there were US carriers going towards China last year and we all know that China wants to take over Taiwan and they showed it once again by saying that Russian move into Ukraine was not an attack. They want to do the same with Taiwan in the near future and this could trigger a move from the US. Biden talked with Putin before the attack on Ukraine and Putin begun to be even more aggressive towards Zelensky after talking with Biden, which suggests they struck some kind of deal.
2013  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: February 25, 2022, 07:22:49 PM
I told you so.
You were right about where Russia's military was going to attack from. We will see if Putin stops with Ukraine or if he continues west.
West is going to be hard because Poland is in the EU and NATO and houses a lot of US troops and weapons. Killing US troops on Polish soil would basically mean a war with the USA which Russia cannot win. Also, attacking the EU would mean attacking neighboring countries with pretty significant striking power like Sweden (good air force), UK (nuclear submarines), and so on. Based on what Putin is doing right now which is murdering civilians for no reason, I can't definitely say he won't try it, but it would be a suicidal move.
The only possible move would be to go North to the Baltic States, but I doubt he'd be able to wage war there and hold Ukraine at the same time.
2014  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The West don't truly understand Russia's ideology on: February 24, 2022, 11:37:14 PM
Putin is like a wolf that attacks when he sees a weakness. Ukraine was submissive all the way and so was the EU. First Ukraine gave away its nuclear weapons, then got stuck between Russia and the EU, afraid to sever relations with East and West, even when Putin was cutting gas supply to Ukraine and threatening them.
https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/gazprom-holds-back-exports-via-ukraine-pressing-case-nord-stream-2-analysts-2021-07-02/

I still feel like Putin is not completely sane. He's an egoist and a narcissist. He's getting old and it feels like he wants to have statues of himself all around Russia. He's forgetting one thing though. There were statues of Stalin all throughout the Soviet Union at one time and then people were taking them down and changing names of streets and squares so that there's no Stalin anywhere. Same thing with Hitler. How many people in Germany and Austria name their sons Adolf these days?
There's a really thin line between being a loved and hated leader. Between being remembered as a liberator and a murderer.

Also, the West may look weak, but it also was like that at the beginning of WW2. Remember how shocked the world was by the invasion of Poland and later by how little time it took before France fell.
I also hope that people in Russia will realize at some point that Putin taking over a foreign country will not directly turn into them having more money or better jobs. It will turn into them getting a letter that their husband, brother, or son died in battle, hearing the news that somebody detonated a car full of explosives next to their child's school, and so on. If there's any profits from this war it will go to Putin's friends and the great victory will be paid for with the blood of ordinary people who will lose either way.
2015  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Nazi regime of Russia started a war against Ukraine! on: February 24, 2022, 11:02:17 PM
Today, February 24, 2022, at 5 am, a massive invasion of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine began. The cities of Dnipro, Odessa, Kharkiv, have already come under shelling.
Aw fuck....I haven't been watching the news at all, and it's kind of sad that I hear about major events like this on bitcointalk, but so it goes.

I was wondering why the precious metals markets were moving higher and stocks and crypto both took a nosedive today.  I was too lazy to check what was going on in the world, but I'm going to check out whatever news site I can find when I finish writing this post.  This whole conflict between Russia and Ukraine is madness--since global politics is under my radar I don't even know where this all stems from, but my gut is telling me very loudly that an invasion didn't have to happen.

Well, if anyone was questioning how bitcoin would react to a major global event, just take a look at preev to get the price.  Altcoins have plummeted even worse than bitcoin did, so it looks like everyone is selling.  And damn, if I had fiat to burn I'd be buying like crazy.

Bitcoin actually didn't do too bad even if we count the lowest levels. We went down less than 2k USD from yesterday's lows. If you compare that to other major news:
3,5k down on US lockdown news in 2020
10k down on news of China banning mining last year.

I'm also buying got a measly 2k left in fiat in case it goes lower than 30k. For me the math is simple. Even if Russia and Ukraine disappear from the face of the Earth, Bitcoin will remain valuable for the rest. This is actually an opportunity to buy, but people in the EU are too busy wondering if they should buy fuel for their car today or tomorrow and withdrawing fiat from ATMs.

Putin is a mad man who wants to be remembered as the creator of a new Soviet Union, under a different name. Nobody but his puppet state of Belarus wanted to join so it hit his little man's ego. You are not allowed to criticize the great Putin or he'll react with full force of the Russian army. He's a bully and a murderer.

2017  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hypothetically keeping your bitcoin when you die? on: February 22, 2022, 11:36:25 PM
That's why I intend to leave a letter for my children and grandchildren and keep it until I can wake up later. So they can give me the letter and help me remember it again. Maybe I can't remember it for a while but I will be able to remember it again with the help of my children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren later.

What will you write in this letter? Some hints to remind yourself the password for your wallet? What will happen if your memory gets wiped 100% and there's nothing to remind yourself of left in there? You'd have to either write down the wallet passphrase or mnemonic phrases but this will allow your children to get the money without waking you. You see, the problem is when you're dead you don't need money and everything is out of your hands. They can wake you up or not, they can steal your coins or not, don't worry about the things you'll never be able to control.

If you leave control of the money to an AI you risk it being hacked. If you live it to a friend, you risk him taking it all without having to wake you up later. If you hide it you risk not remembering where it was, and so on.
2018  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is Putin Threatening or Serious on: February 22, 2022, 05:50:09 PM
I also thought he wouldn't dare to attack, but what he's doing is and isn't an attack at the same time. He doesn't want it to be an invasion, he wants it to be a game.
1. Puts soldiers on the borderline
2. Distracts the West by sending fake migrants to Belarus so they'd attack the border with Poland and attract the media
3. Starts peace talks with the West claiming he just wants to liberate people who want to be a part of Russia
4. Breaks the peace talks saying that for him to discuss anything Ukraine would have to return all US made weapons (impossible to do and he knows it)
5. Makes a provocation by detonating some artillery shells in Donetsk
6. Evacuates people from attacked area claiming there's a place for them in Russia, then abandons them. The evacuated citizens are forced to go back to Ukraine or face cold and starvation.
7. Signs a decree that Donetsk and Luhansk are now autonomies recognized by Russia
8. Moves in "peacekeeping forces" to the area claiming he only wants to stabilize the territory so no other fights take place
9. Claims Rissia doesn't want to annex the area (but if an autonomous region decides it wants to be a part of Russia he won't oppose)

Remember people, next time the Red Army Russian Army moves into your country, it's to keep the peace and help you. Pretty much like they helped Poland and Finland in 1939 Wink

2020  Economy / Speculation / Re: Get ready to SODL on: February 22, 2022, 04:29:58 PM
I hope you will buy more in this dip as well. I haven't seen Bitcoin this oversold since the 2020 covid crash. It's actually funny that markets are reacting with such fear to Putin's provocation. It barely has anything to do with decentralization and cryptocurrencies. If anything happens they are going to become more important to people fleeing the conflict zones and those who will try to get their unstable currencies into something safer that can't be stolen by soldiers or the police. I'd say the government stealing from protesters in Canada and threatening to take their children and pets if they don't comply is insane and if it doesn't make people seek decentralization, nothing will.
