2041  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Exchange BTC/XRP and XRP/BTC on: June 20, 2013, 04:38:42 PM
I've seen that, but I don't get how it works.
There is something called "change issuer" what does this mean.

Thanks!

It works the same way as any exchange works you put in a sell order of XRP for BTC.

Change issuers just means which place are you looking to trade IOU within. As you said bitstamp is one of those issuers.

ripple has a built in exchange click trade
2043  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin as a savings account on: June 20, 2013, 04:10:43 PM
You are really going to put all your savings in bitcoins? The virtual currency the government is sheepishly cracking down on for tax fraud and you want to use it for that purpose? Seems smart.

Good luck getting anything of value for those coins down the line, especially if people like you continue seeing bitcoin as a means for tax fraud.

Thanks to people like him that will be happening sooner.
2044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boycott 0.8.2 on: June 20, 2013, 04:08:39 PM
No.. Bad Idea. We should show support for the devs who work their ass off getting out updates.

And blocking microtransactions is a bad thing? Not only did it slow up the speed of transactions it completly spams blockchain.

I love the brain wash of the core dev team. So how did transactions get slow because of micro-transactions? It never did it was always a free market. Also how does it spam the blockchain? It doesn't, maybe instead of brainwashing people the core dev team should start actually fixing the blockchain, which has been broken, due to the lack of attention it gets. The most important part of bitcoin and it doesn't get any attention kind sad.
2045  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boycott 0.8.2 on: June 20, 2013, 03:58:51 PM
I can no l0nger use bitcoin on either a mac or windows. I cant even install the client on windows without errors and my mac is unuseable with bitcoin-qt. Yes you should boycott it, because the coding is fucking  shit.
Try Linux.

He shouldn't have to try anything. The core development team, doesn't even code anymore they all do work for other bitcoin companies and have lost focus on what is really important.

But... Linux is imo plain old way better than those OS's are. Why should bitcoin bow to inferior operating systems? Popular use is cool, but I'd be happier about 10% of all linux users using btc than 11% of windows users using it. (Note that i have no idea what these numbers actually imply.)

Considering Mac is on par with linux I don't care about either one of them. I have even removed bitcoind from my servers, I built my own client using bitcoinj.

2048  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Frog: Bring Bitmessage mainstream! on: June 20, 2013, 06:58:03 AM
Why do you need BTC 3.5 for your idea? I don't think anyone would pay without seeing a prototype, I mean we don't even have a code sample to see if your skills are capable of doing a project like this. Just give us some security here, cause this project isn't really that simple.
Servers and potentially the hiring of a designer. I can code, but I can NOT make things look pretty.
Here is my Github: https://github.com/Jaxkr
Here is an article about me (provides my identity and prevents me from scamming): http://www.timescall.com/news/longmont-local-news/ci_23032800/sunset-middle-school-student-wins-first-longmont-hackathon
Unfortunately, I can't use those prize funds for this project as they were directly invested in my college account, to avoid taxes. Tongue

I hope this doesn't come off as mean, but learn to bootstrap. I think this is actually a great lesson for a young person to learn. Cause in the real world without a prototype no one gives funds. Even without testing the market you don't really get funds. I think you should try and do as much as you can with little or no funds. Your a programmer, try and get BTC3.5 by working for someone else.

Also don't tell your parents this but college is a scam.

Don't listen to him. Get your degree.
After my junior year, I took a year off that ended up being an eternity - I never graduated. Not having that piece of paper has closed so many doors for me.

Go to college and graduate and don't let anything stop you.

Yes certain degrees are required for certain jobs. I have met many, many people in the computer science sector and if your code is great, and you know what your doing, which this kid certainly does. He would not learn anything from college.

2050  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Lets talk hardware wallets... on: June 19, 2013, 10:24:12 PM
You probably have to wait until they release the source for it.

No problem with that. Nice talking to you.

Anytime

Cool, thank you.

Last question: where is the algorithm for converting a pass phrase to the master seed?

I appreciate your help.

You probably have to wait until they release the source for it.
2053  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Lets talk hardware wallets... on: June 19, 2013, 10:04:50 PM
No BIP 32 is a determinstic wallets proposal. So you can get all your addresses from a single seed.

Can one use the passphrase to re-seed the wallet manually without specialized hardware?

That is exactly why they choose that.
2054  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Lets talk hardware wallets... on: June 19, 2013, 09:54:01 PM
So, if one gets smashed to pieces in an unfortunate dance-it-out incident, do the Bitcons stored on the wallet get lost?

No they use BIP 32 and a randomly generated pass phase which you have to write down and keep a secret.

That makes sense, thank you.

Will there be a published algorithm to convert the pass phrase into the the private key, or the only way to restore a lost wallet with pass phrase is by purchasing the same model of hardware wallet?

BIP32 is published

There is nothing about pass phrase on this page:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/BIP_0032
It just seems like a way of delegating authority through child keys.
Or is this a wrong “BIP 32” I am looking at?

I am sure this has already been discussed elsewhere, so feel free to point me where.
Thanks again.

I guess it's only the "new heroes" who are feeling the "loss".

Does being a hero member really matter? I know many sr. members who do great things and don't care about hero membership.
2057  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Easy way to accept bitcoins in my restaurant? on: June 19, 2013, 06:13:59 PM
Thanks for the advise guys. I'm very keen to do this now!  Grin

Good luck, and for sure announce where your located when you accept bitcoins. I know I am always on the look out of bitcoin restaurants.
2058  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Easy way to accept bitcoins in my restaurant? on: June 19, 2013, 05:39:06 PM
Just give them your address and check when it comes in

You can accept it using zero confirmation, it is highly unlikely anyone would double spend attack a restaurant. It wouldn't be worth it.
2059  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Easy way to accept bitcoins in my restaurant? on: June 19, 2013, 05:17:43 PM
Ive heard of something called a paper wallet but im not sure what it does exactly.

Paper wallets wouldn't help a restaurant at all, he could create a paper wallet, then using bitpay all coins sent there after bitpay, but a paper wallet alone will not help him.
2060  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Easy way to accept bitcoins in my restaurant? on: June 19, 2013, 05:11:52 PM
Bitpay (http://bitpay.com) pretty sure they have a POS.
