2065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good coin for the not so serious miner? on: December 18, 2013, 06:34:13 AM
Hey Guys,

I've been curious to learn how mining works and testing it out for myself so I've been wondering if there are any good coins out there which won't be too hard to set up mining and could actually mine coins on a fairly old laptop?

If something can bring money to someone with a laptop why shouldnt someone buy a desktop and mine it for more profit? Dont be naive.

Try to find a coin that you believe that will succeed because of the idea...Mining with a laptop wont make you anywhere except if you mine the first/second day a coin is out seriously...

That's not really what I asking. I honestly don't believe any altcoins (in their current state) will overtake bitcoin so I don't want to spend money on a new computer and electricity to seriously mine them. Sure, some of them will go up in price but it seems like a guessing game on which will. I'm really just trying to get my head around cryptocurrencies in general and I'm the type that learns more by doing than by reading.

then i would suggest peercoin primecoin datacoin and maybe namecoin but i dont know much about the latter...

2070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] krypte.net - store files in the blockchain (new features) on: December 17, 2013, 10:10:51 PM
Hey i tested it and it is excellent Smiley Very simple and fast!

Btw is it possible to calculate fees before the upload?
Thank you for usingthe site.

It's not implemented but it's really trivial to calculate them. The fees are 0.05 DTC for every kilobyte of data plus a single fee of 0.06 DTC kept by the site.

So if you want to upload a 34Kb file the fee would be (34*0.05)+0.06 = 1.76 DTC

You can see the fee charged to your account on the latest transactions that appear on every DTC page (once the first transaction is made).

Ok thanks! I am thinking of something to download next Cheesy

This only works if you submitted it before your opponents claimed to have invented it.
Just give it up, datacoin is dead as disco, incase you missed it

Actually that's not true. "Claiming" does not provide any rights to intellectual property. Someone would have to prove that they invented it first.  That is why people who write movies and tv shows send printed copies to themselves in the mail and leave them unopened.  That's tangible proof.  I am not sure if Datacoin would offer the same proof, but by having 100s, if not thousands, of people stating that the items was entered into the blockchain at a particular time is pretty convincing.

What I was saying is that if they claim to have evidence they invented it on December 12th and the blockchain says you submitted it December 15th it isn't very helpful, only helpful if you put it up on the blockchain like on December 10th, furthermore the process to verify your ownership of the data is a bit odd legally.
Again look at perfect dark and share, it works like this.

Are you involved with the perfect dark project? It almost feels like your promoting.
No, I just know a useful program when I see one and I use perfect dark on occasion to get hard to find disc iso's and bdmv's
I really just want some people to try it and come back here and then talk about what datacoin should be doing because as it stands nobody but me seems to know much of anything regarding anonymous data services

Eitherway I sold all the coins that I mined, I am officially out of datacoin for good unless something major happens to this drowning fish.

come on man. Drowning fish. 1 week ago you were trying to persuade others to build a pool about datacoin and after 7 days its a drowning fish?

You are very constructive and yes datacoin needs more things. But its experimental and only 1 month old! What do you expect? What was the last time something 1 month old was excellent?

Unfortunately i know shit about programming. But since you seem to know more try to persuade people to fix things more constructively. Dead disco and drowning fish after 1 month seem like personal butthurt or something...

I have a block explorer up for MemoryCoin. It can be found here:

http://www.chainbrowser.com/memorycoin/

Have a few more cosmetic things to add, but thought it would be useful for now.

Does the search address function works ?
i can't get it working or there is something wrong?
thank you.

try without space as last character
2079  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: (DTC) Experimental Digital Ocean VPN Guide For Mining Datacoin At First New Pool on: December 17, 2013, 12:30:04 AM
It looks like no blocks have been processed in over an hour. Is something wrong?  Only a few addresses are at 0.3.

Indeed. Something is going on with the pool right now...But i think they will pay afterwards everything since mining continues...
