All. Although i have a feeling that it is better to mine when workers are low the pool.
1922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ***Easiest Guide For DO Cloud Mining Datacoin***1DTC giveaway!MiningforDummies! on: December 25, 2013, 08:06:56 AM
Sorry, just wanted to jump in with a noob question.  I notice that DO has the option to pay monthly, but is that amount you pay changed for the amount of data used by mining?  Basically I'm asking if they have say a $10/month plan, would mining cause you to go over their threshold and incur more charges?  Thanks for any advice and guidance on this.

According to DO:

How do I choose between monthly and hourly billing?
There is no difference between monthly and hourly billing. All droplets are billed hourly, up until a monthly cap. We have estimated that each month has about 672 hours (28 days). If you use your server for less than 672 hours during the month, you will be billed for each hour that you used it. If you use your server for more than 672 hours that month, you will be billed at the monthly cost, which is no greater than 672 hours.

Personally i calculate by the hour...Mind the price is per droplet. If you have 5 droplets 2cpu 2gb its 0.03$ per hour each so 0.15 per hour all of them
1923  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ***Easiest Guide For DO Cloud Mining Datacoin***1DTC giveaway!MiningforDummies! on: December 25, 2013, 08:00:42 AM

""  ./primeminer -pooluser=DQsoZjorSHBXDUhVkYn7VuSfzG2RfYLpuy.x1  -poolpassword=0 -poolip=162.243.41.59 -poolport=8336 -poolshare=6 -genproclimit=2  ""

And for the pool, I'm using the chinese one, and thanks for the cmd line foradjust threads per CPU Cheesy now I can change that parameter and not make a dropplet and then run the script you provided and wait a lot Tongue

Edit: the terminal throws this error: -bash: ./primeminer: no such directory or file

I answer here because others might want to know about this too. So when mining has started you can terminate it with Ctrl+C because you may want to change a parameter. For example you may want to change threads or your address or even pool. The automatic script i use in the OP can be used again of course but makefile will take 5 minutes or so and its not efficient to do this everytime. So you can run this:

./primeminer -pooluser=DQsoZjorSHBXDUhVkYn7VuSfzG2RfYLpuy.x1  -poolpassword=0 -poolip=162.243.41.59 -poolport=8336 -poolshare=6 -genproclimit=2

Now the error you have is because you try to run the program "primeminer" but you are not in the folder that you have downloaded it. (Download happened automatically with the script of the OP)

so see at terminal where you are. I think you will be on root or just ./ (its the same). So you have to type cd primecoin/src in order to go to the directory that primeminer is and then run the line above.

Now if you are not in the root folder (root folder is the main one. Something like C: on windows) but in another folder if you type "cd .." you go back one folder. You do this until you get to root and then "cd primecoin/src" and then run the script.

Hope this helps

Nice guide for the reason that everything is explained.

I will surely explain more in the near future Smiley

I followed metraque's  advice and i has to say it is clearly better!

Now from 5 2CPU droplets i get around 2.5chains per day while with 1 8CPU i was getting something like 2.2-2.3 chains per day.

And instead of paying 0.238$ per hour i pay 0.15$ per hour.

So thanks a lot!

1926  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [GROUP BUY OPEN] AntMiner U1 1.6 GH/S USB Sticks 4,000 TOTAL Ships TODAY on: December 25, 2013, 05:09:58 AM
I just want to correct him, because he thought, the price is depend on lower exchange rates or something like that. And about the demand, that is exactly the reason, why they are overpriced. In your bar example: If you have a bar in a area with high demand and low infrastructure around (near a mine for example), you can charge 1000% for a beer because you use the dependancy of the worker/miner, usually is this impossible, in a normal area you will not got more then 300%.

So you sample is crap, because for 2 reason: Nobody buy a miner for his fun or to enjoy the time, like to drink a beer in a bar. Every Miner will buyed for 1 reason, to bring a little profit. Second reason, if they would charge a profit of 300% and sale the miner for 20-30USD, the price would be reasonable, for BOTH so you can call it win/win, for factory AND buyer! 1000% is simple greedy, and only 1 party got win, the factory. The buyer lost, it's a win/lost

The price for production is impossible 8-12USD as i wrote: 1 Chip Batch sale for 99BTC, 10.000pcs. This mean, each chip cost the factory much lesser then this sale price of 0.0099 each or USD about $6. If they calculate the chips at the same rate like the USB and they charge 1000%, each chip cost lesser then $1, so i guess when i say $5 for the chip is much higher then the real cost!

And 1 USB PCB you got finish developed for 1000 or more units fur  much lesser then $2 in china ALL INCLUSIVE! With my price range of 6-7USD i am much overrated, so this price is for sure INCLUDE all side costs!

Don't calculate with US prices or where you came from, i stay in Asia and i know the production cost of electronic here. Believe me, 1000% are at least the profit for the USB Miner. And we talk about Group sale, not end customer sale!

This deal is impossible to be for anyone profitable because there is no space for anyone to calculate with profit, after the factory charge 1000%. On the end every end customer will pay much much overprice, and will never see ROI, even because this reseller price is impossible to get ROI!

Sure you could say: up to them, why they bought so expensive. But in my eye is that not the idea behind a group buy or BTC philosophy. There are enough greedy player in normal capitalism. The BTC or the miner community should keep together and work against this greedy behaviour.

I agree with you but you except one thing. There is no capitalism without super greed. It is the essence of capitalism. You like it or not. There is no middle position. There is no way BTC community will keep together. Greedy behaviour will exist as soon as capitalism exists.

First of all find everything about Datacoin here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=358592.0

Now first of all you have to download your Datacoin wallet if you dont have one. You can also use a web-based wallet like bter.com or coins-e.com but web-based wallets are not as secure as the wallets on your computer.
For windows you can download from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/datacoin/files/
For Linux checck here: http://datacoin.info/index.php?id=datacoind-build-instructions-linux

After you donwload it it should take some time to synchronize and download by itself all the blocks. It takes some time to connect. You may also need to add in the help/debug window/console a few addnodes from here if it doesnt connect fast: http://datacoin.info/addnodes . You just copy paste a few of those.

After you set up a wallet make a new address. I call my address "Mining" for example. It looks like this: DQsoZjorSHBXDUhVkYn7VuSfzG2RfYLpuy

The mining guide:

Currently there are two pools. First one is out for a day now and second one for a week. 1st one has only 30 workers while second one  30k. I prefer the first one because 1 pool must not have all the power. So i am trying to help the first one although i get less frequent payouts! But fee is also less.
1) http://dtc.xpool.xram.co/          1% Fee
2) http://dtc.gpool.net/                2% Fee

For windows: Choose a pool. Now all you have to do in order to mine is to download this and unzip it: http://www.mediafire.com/download/473rshiav08074t/primeminer_v08_rc1.zip
In the folder there would be 4 files. Right click and edit primeminer_x64_edit-me.bat file.
If you chose the first pool delete everything in the .bat file and paste this one:

primeminer_x64.exe -pooluser=DQsoZjorSHBXDUhVkYn7VuSfzG2RfYLpuy -poolpassword=PASSWORD -poolip=dtc.xpool.xram.co -poolport=1335 -poolshare=6 -genproclimit=4

If you chose the second pool use this one

primeminer_x64.exe -pooluser=DQsoZjorSHBXDUhVkYn7VuSfzG2RfYLpuy -poolpassword=PASSWORD -poolip=162.243.41.59 -poolport=8336 -poolshare=6 -genproclimit=4

*DQsoZjorSHBXDUhVkYn7VuSfzG2RfYLpuy is my address. You have to change this to your wallet address Wink
*4 is the number of threads that you want your computer to run. In my i3 laptop i have a total of 4 threads. If i use 4 of them i cant use my computer for anything else as it is too laggy but this way i mine the most of it. If i use 2 threads then i dont have a problem and i mine as i use my computer. Your computer may have more threads. Put the number of your threads according to your CPU
*You dont need a PASSWORD for those pools. Let it as is and it should work.
Now all you need to do is to save this .bat file you made and close it. Then just run it buy double clicking it and you have started mining!

For Linux: (I have tried it on Ubuntu 13.10 and 13.04 and Debian 7) On the terminal put the following:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install yasm -y git make g++ build-essential libminiupnpc-dev    (and press enter)
sudo apt-get install -y libboost-all-dev libdb++-dev libgmp-dev libssl-dev dos2unix (and press enter)
git clone https://github.com/thbaumbach/primecoin (and press enter)
cd primecoin/src (and press enter)
make -f makefile.unix and enter (this will take a few minutes)

And then you only have to write this and enter and you are already mining!:
For first pool:

./primeminer -pooluser=DQsoZjorSHBXDUhVkYn7VuSfzG2RfYLpuy -poolpassword=PASSWORD -poolip=dtc.xpool.xram.co -poolport=1335 -poolshare=6 -genproclimit=4

For second pool:

./primeminer -pooluser=DQsoZjorSHBXDUhVkYn7VuSfzG2RfYLpuy -poolpassword=PASSWORD -poolip=162.243.41.59 -poolport=8336 -poolshare=6 -genproclimit=4

*See above in the Windows section what you have to change for the red colors

I hope this guide will help you with mining Datacoins. I will try to make this guide even better as it may have mistakes as of now. Feel free to ask anything! I will try to help you as much as i can.

And one more thing. Dont sell you Datacoins fast! Right now price is undervalued. 1 Datacoin will sure be above 1 dollar at least. Gather some Datacoins first, see how market works and then exchange Smiley

Very nice news Smiley I hope this will end good for both!

As for the starting page its very good. A few proposals:

The second image, the promo one, is too. In my laptop i have to scroll like two pages Tongue I would make it half the size. Of course so that we can read it clearly though!

And under that image i will add at the center something like this(Please fix mistakes):

Algorithm: CPU only! No GPU smelter etc.
Max Coins: 2,000,000,000 DTC
Block Time: 60 Seconds
Block Reward: 10-50 (See below)
Difficulty Retarget Time: Huh or whatever
Premine: None

I think thats all for now. Do it if you feel its okay. Its just a proposition Smiley

All done Smiley

I think it is really nice. Lets see if people also like it Smiley

I also notice that it's a CPU-only coin. Does that tie in with the goals of the coin somehow, or is there no specific reason to it?

Are there any notable advantages/disadvantages worth considering as far as how CPU might influence the adoption and usage of datacoin?

If it was sha2 those that had paid for Asic miners for bitcoins would have killed it since after 1 month they would have mine much of it living nothing for late adopters.

The same goes for scrypt. Those with good expensive graphics cards would have mined most of it.

Only cpu coins like Datacoin, Primecoin and Protoshare (not quark, molecule because those can be now mined with GPUs too) are being mined more slowly and this is good for most adopters if time has passed. For example my i3 laptop now mines 0.3DTC per day. And i am using my laptop 10 hours a day at least.

The problems though for cpu coins are the botnets. Someone with a botnet can easily make its slaves mine for him cpu coins. And this is actually happening with all CPU coins. But pools can easily find botnets and ban them.

Okay thank you, that answered my question well.

So basically, there's no major concern that this CPU method would have any possible negative effects when it comes to miners being able to work to keep the datacoin blockchain nice and secure if the coin becomes popular?

No, i dont think there is a problem. Now i would like to know if PoS can also be implemented and if this stupid idea or not.

I have a feeling that this is not going to work. A proposal:

250 Units at 0.08 for those that will buy 50 or 100 or 150 or 200 or 250
250 Units at 0.1 for those that will buy less than 50.

If people want to buy okay. If people dont then we dont buy. Its not your fault that we have problems buying. Its bitmain's price. Those will never ROI and everyone knows that so people dont want to invest....

Also yes, clean the OP. Maybe this will bring more people here...
