Thanks! Actually I was hoping for a little more detail Smiley
The address is something like sha256(curve25519(sha256(key))). It is presumably as easy or hard to bruteforce this regardless of whether an account has been verified. If you know the key, you have access to the account.
You must be talking about an intermediate step - a way of sending funds from an account without using its private key?
I don't think this got replied to. As I understand it, that's not what an account is in Nxt. In Nxt an account is only the first 64 bits of the hash. That's why it's relatively weak. It's also why it can be expressed in 21 digits, where Bitcoin needs 34 alphnumeric characters. So account collisions are much more likely in Nxt. When you first send from a Nxt account, your public key is registered to the account, and that brings the security back up to 256 bits.

Thanks - that's helpful. I think I understand it now.
It rules out conventional cold storage, unfortunately.
You can create an account on an offline computer, send some coins to it, then create a transaction signed on the offline computer, move that transaction to an online computer, and broadcast it. That gets your account associated with a public key without the private key ever being exposed an online computer. I say "you can" but I don't know if the wallet software to do this exists yet; if it doesn't it could (and should!) be written. It'd work pretty much the same as Armory, except with the need to create that initial (offline) transaction.

Account control will allow you to lock your account, preventing any outgoing transactions that will add good security. Post in the nxtforum account control subforum and come-from-beyond will pick it up.

Cool, thanks for both replies.
How would account locking work - separate password? The main attack I see happening on NXT is malware/keystroke loggers. I really like the all-offline solution of bitcoin cold storage because it's so elegantly simple and powerful. Wondering what the NXT analogue is.

It is in Come-from-beyonds hands. The last discussion I saw was in the megathread.

For now, we have http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Account_Control or posting questions in the subforum above.

*snip*

thanks for message,so many useful links.nxt is the future!

Bithaus have posted on the thread above with good news.

We (Bithaus) are definitely interested in being listed on the Asset Exchange. For now as a short-term solutions several investors of Bithaus are selling their assets in Bithaus through their very own Exchange Traded Fund.

What we are waiting for is the green lights of our regulators in Switzerland. If that is sorted, you can rest assured that we will put our entire business on the AE!

More to be announced soon.

We'll just have to wait for the announcement Grin
2086  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: May 11, 2014, 02:32:53 PM
ForgeCoin looks interesting to me in the above list of upcoming asset offers, but .85 BTC seems a bit expensive for an Antminer S1. They seem to be going for about .5 BTC these days. Still, if there are no extra charges for power use that could turn out to be a good deal. That's not clear from the ad, though. Is there no extra charge for power? (other than the "management fee" of 3% of the revenues, which seems reasonable)

I've never mined before, so I don't know how much the real monthly power costs amount to. It's a cool idea though, I'd consider buying in if the price and payout are actually competitive with what it would cost me to set up my own rig.

That being said, as a NXT investor I'm completely against the very idea of mining  Grin

You would have to follow the link and ask directly I'm afraid. I am meaning to put the 'promoter' name to each listing to (jl777 for example).

If I put my house up for auction for $1 and it sold $100,000, is this mark up 'insanity'? Or do people use things other than the initial price to determine value?

You have shown repeatedly that you don't understand value, only price. And you use it in your guide arbitrarily (this is your methodology everyone is talking about that you have admitted excludes important factors in determining long term value) to decide whether something is a 'good investment'. Your methodology is bad which creates bad conclusions.

no. the better analogy is that you bought your house for 100 dollars in october, and sold it for 100,000+ in December.

What's wrong with that picture?

Nothing, as it was sold to me for much less than people value it for. The same is true for Nxt. People see what Nxt can do and what is planned and the price rises as they think it will have more value in the future than it does today.

well we agree to disagree here.

If i buy a house for 100 (waaay undervalued) and then begin selling it at 100,000, those people buying on the other end are suckers.

"When what is planned" actually happens with nxt, then it can validate the price. its def not there yet.

You might try to agree to disagree but anyone with any understanding of what creates value and how to judge it will see the glaring errors in your piece.

If you want to label anyone a sucker, it would be Bcnext for giving away ideas and software worth millions of dollars for a few thousand bucks.

New client NRS v1.0.1 released >>>> https://nxtforum.org/nrs-releases/nrs-v1-0-1/msg0/#new

Hash: SHA1

Release 1.0.1

https://*snip* use link above

sha256: 6*snip* use link above

Change log:

Added getAssetsByIssuer API to get all assets issued by an account.

Added getAskOrders and getBidOrders API calls, returning the full JSON objects.

Added BlockchainProcessor.getLastBlockchainFeederHeight(), to help determine
blockchain download status. Note that this is present only when the current
feeder peer also supports it, i.e. starting from this release.
Added BlockchainProcessor.isScanning() to check for re-scan in progress.

Added getBlockchainStatus API containing the above status, it is more efficient
to use this instead of the getState API.

Enhanced DebugTrace to log lease begin and end events, and lessor guaranteed
balances for each block, in nxt-trace.csv file.

Added server-side support for Reed-Solomon encoding of account numbers, thanks
to ChuckOne who converted the javascript version to java. All API calls that
accept account numbers can now recognize either account id's or Reed-Solomon
addresses. JSON data responses that contain account numbers now also have them
in Reed-Solomon format too.

Added Crypto.getPrivateKey() and Crypto.curve() methods. Added the Bouncy Castle
library, to be used for AES encryption instead of the limited strength default
implementation.

Added Account.getForgedBalanceNQT() to keep track of total forging fees earned
by each account, available as forgedBalanceNQT in getBalance and getAccount.

Increased default database query lock timeout to 10 s, nxt.dbDefaultLockTimeout
in nxt-default.properties.

Re-check unconfirmed pool for double-spending transaction after each block push.

Support for IPv6 connections, patch provided by ScripterRon.

Updated jetty to version 9.1.5. Make sure first to delete the old jetty jar
files from lib if just unpacking this release on top of an older installation.

Client Updates:

Built-in Reed Solomon support. Not enabled by default yet. Go to settings to
change.

Added user warning when amount NXT or fee NXT are higher than maximum specified
in settings.

Added forged balance to dashboard.

Asset exchange is now searchable.

Blockchain download progress uses new API.

Show (unconfirmed) transaction immediately on dashboard after form submit.

Meanwhile, it is quite surprising to me that NXT doesn't trade on MintPal being that it is the 6th cryptocurrency in market cap and that has a more than decent trading volume, so it'd be nice to start a campaign to get MintPal to include it. How about it?

NXT made sure it 'won' a mintpal vote ages ago, mintpal dev's it seems were not able to add NXT and still cannot despite the fact that other exchanges have been able to do so...

You are welcome to start another campaign but in my view NXT has already won its right to be listed on mintpal and their devs need to do the work...

The latest round with Mintpal is here >>>> https://nxtforum.org/trading-exchanges/mintpal-and-nxt/

Nope because it doesn't change the problem that the Dev just instantly created ALL the coins like a GOD and gave them to himself and his entire business team and then convinced all you gullible yaps to pay him for his digital bits.  Hopefully I will help 1 person not fall for this scam and every other POS scam coin that follows this one.   The dilution is infinite with all these coins.

I was going to invest in Nxt until I saw your insightful posts, all I have to say is thank you.  I will now go buy $30k of mining equiment and mine dark coin.  Thank you for changing my life.

Relax. Want steady growth. I hate this.

I agree. I think now would be a good time for the super-whales to drop a few million on the exchanges, keep the price from shooting up too fast. This would kill 2 birds with one stone, making another quantum leap in improving distribution.
I'm afraid this will become a fatal flaw.  The people holding the coins aren't going to distribute them FYI.
I hate to be negative because there are so many cool things happening with NXT, but I can't get over people still holding 5-10% of total coins.

There should be a second official round of distribution where like 1000 people can receive coins and distribute them to everyone they know.

Where would the coins come from?
THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH ALL THESE POS COINS.  The developers of the coins can and do gift themselves massive percentages of the "money" and then act like they are being generous by handing out coins to others.  To buy the coins where did the coins come from in the first plac?  The guy just made them up and put them in his wallet them loaded them up to an exchange and then asked everyone to PAY HIM for his worthless virtual bits called NXT that he gifted himself.  It's the greatest scam in history.

This is the fundamental flaw with POS.

You can still mine NXT at http://nxtpool.net/ so we can say NXT is a second generation POW coin if it makes you happier..  Smiley

What percentage of Nxt went to 'the devs'?

How is dilution possible when the number of Nxt is hardcoded?

Stop moaning about the distribution and FOCUS on NOW and the TECHNOLOGY, which is about to revolutionize the digital world!!

Stupid FUD'sters, you'll never get rid of them Smiley

Just like haters haha

Buy FUD'sters aren't haters, deep inside they love the coin Cheesy
WRONG.  The entire concept that i can create a money, then obviously give myself as much as I want.  Then go peddle this worthless "money" to others claiming that it is a currency or an investment is the epitomy of a snake oil salesman.

Atleast with Proof of Work, you have to mine or create the money and everyone has their opportunity to mine it.  With POS it is a complete scam....EVERYTIME.  P.S.  Money does not pay interest so that is your clue that it is a scam coin.
Unfortunately many of the kids on here that like cryptocurrencies are easily taken advantaged of and tricked into buying worthless bytes and bits that a DEV can print at his leisure over and over again just by launching new POS scam coin after scam coin.

It's not a coincidence that POS also stands for Piece of Sh!T.

You didn't answer my question, I had to do it myself. Do you want to have a go at it?

Nxt does not pay interest. You are thinking of Blackcoin/Whitecoin/Yellowcoin/Asiacoin/CinniCoin et al that are forks of Novacoin and ultimately Peercoin. I assume you hail from one of these?

Nxt is brand new, it is non inflationary and never can be, and our devs have been with Nxt and only Nxt from the start. Have you read anything about Nxt? And we have a lot of experience in dealing with Fudsters  Cheesy

How do you judge value? Why would Nxt price increase so much and why hasn't the debilitating dump occured after such a large percentage increase?

All POS are created at the beginning, how could it be any other way? And how is this reflected in your article? So you are to conclude that all POS are poor investments for all time and not to consider how they are distributed over time?

I don't think you answered these.

I answered the dump question, as did someone else.

In regards to 100% PoS coins, that is the ultimate dilemma; how to do dispense your coins fairly if there is no slow mining of them? No one has solved that dilemma yet and NXT is a great example of what not to do. If a 100% from-the-beginning PoS coin comes along and does it right, they will get a much better rating in this wiki.

I am particularly harsh of PoW/PoS coins that rush to get out of PoW. So many of them flash mine 15,20,30,50% of the total coins.

You know the price of everything and the value of nothing. I asked about value and how you judge it. It seems you only use initial distribution and nothing else and speak as though your article carries academic rigour when it appears they are just assertions based on a narrow definition of what a good investment is.

How do you take account of inflation, utility and many other factors that influence value in your article?

Bump.

I am a Nxt investor. That is no defence in a logical debate about methodology. Why do you ignore me?
