, repatriate any gold it holds outside its borders
Good luck with that.

if they fail to repatriate - the paper gold scam will be finally exposed.
Nah, they'll just accept gold IOUs because the Dollar.

>Because people buy, hold, and speculate in Bitcoin (this thread) to save kittens. Roll Eyes

Also babies, puppies, and rainbows. Now you are starting to get it. If you want to know how, you'll have to ask, but I'm sure you are not interested in the motives of others.

Are you being intentionally daffy, or did your mind finally snap due to devastating (and, frankly, predictable and therefore embarrassingly avoidable) financial losses?
Classic defensive response. He's obviously suffering from neurotic trauma stemming from his epic weak hands.

After Quantitative Easing ends, Quantitative Assistance begins. Free money for the poor and high flat tax with loopholes for the rich. BAU.
2107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to Distribue Multisig Keys on: October 29, 2014, 06:35:14 PM
You use intermediate addresses and they generate their own keys.
2108  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as a Retirement Account on: October 29, 2014, 06:24:58 PM
Every month, your employer transfers Bitcoins into a time-locked address that can't be transferred out before you reach retirement age.  You have the key to the address.  You can verify the transfer on the blockchain.
Intriguing, but probably won't fly.
All Bitcoin-Hype aside, for easiness' sake, let's assume we're doing this with our own, special coin, let's call it RetirementCoin(RC).

In the beginning, people will need a lot of RC to pay into the pension fund. RC is new, its price is low, i.e., for a given amount of e.g. US Dollars, you'll have to buy a lot of RC and lock them in your address. Exchange rate of RC will go "to the moon"™, leading to lower amounts of RC required to put into your retirement address.

The years go by.

Finally, when pay-outs start, huge amounts of RC from the first pay-ins will pour into the market, pushing the exchange rate down.
Your second pay-out will be substantially less RC at a substantially lower exchange rate. You'll be practically broke once you retire.
Your entire premise of using a RC is flawed by the same hype as Bitcoin.

As far as the rumors say Jorge was the one that originally invented bitcoin, but someone drugged him, stole his code and destroyed every backup of it.
Thatīs what they on the street at least. He seems to be on a vengeance now. Canīt blame him for that.

Sounds like a logical sequence of events. I agree.
Wasn't he going to call it NapCoin?

Bitcoin Maximalism

I, for one, welcome our new ScamChain overlords.

Yes, to be sure many sidechains will be scams.  And highly regarded and trustworthy 'overlords' lending credibility to the basic idea of sidechains will be very welcome to those intending to use the mechanism for scammery.

It needs to be made very clear to users that just because something leverages the sidechains principles (or claims to) this is no reason to drop due-diligence and common sense.  Use only sidechains which can be thoroughly analyzed and have a theoretical basis in the principle that the sidechains manager can at the very worst lose value...NOT take value.

If a SC is open source and the bridge is secure, then what's the problem?
2111  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 29, 2014, 05:29:36 PM
By the way, while I belive that bitcoin will not survive in the long term, I would not risk any prediction for the price in middle term.  It may even go back to the 1000$ range or more, who knows.  All I will risk saying is that, unless and until a large new market opens, the price will probably keep falling towards the pre-bubble level of ~120$ (or even ~20$, if the Feb/2013 bubble too was made in China).
The markets are already there. It's a few bureaucrat luddites pissing in the soup that keep the doors closed. When the media starts loving bitcoin it will come back.

Krugman just validated all the pessimisms you've ever had over the last 5yrs:

Is there a transcript or synopsis? I really can't listen to economists.

2114  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2013 bitcoin bubble was manipulated by a few... how do you feel ... on: October 29, 2014, 01:18:50 PM
how do you feel being manipulated and losing 50%+ of your invested money as of now?
More importantly, how does it make you feel, hmmm?

Actually I exited the market a few months ago, I'm waiting for BTC to crash to below $50 so I will buy back in and be an early adopter 2.0 Smiley

sorry bitcoin would be fully dead before it crash to under $100, no more rebound but you are just joking and won't buy during that trend anyway
There isn't enough volume to take any of these price moves seriously. It could go back to 1000 for very little.
2115  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 29, 2014, 01:15:09 PM
It's going to be tough even if we do see a rise, as there are probably a lot of bagholders that would love to get out if it hits the price they bought in at so their spouses don't divorce them for losing half their life savings or whatever.

2117  Economy / Economics / Re: Correlation bitcoin with stocks/commodities? on: October 29, 2014, 12:58:03 PM
Long term bitcoin inversely correlates to stock indexes. Short term bitcoin often lags gold.
