2141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why premine is still widely accepted? on: January 31, 2014, 11:27:24 PM
A premine is not so much an issue with the coin, but an issue of trust with the developer. If everyone thinks the developer will use them to promote the coin, then it's good thing, if not, it's a bad thing. Whether the devs do or not is a different thing entirely. But it's mainly about trust.

The level of premine people are willing to accept now certainly has gone done. Anything over a few percent is really met with scorn now. I guess it's because of coins like Dimecoin.
2142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GRA] Graincoin - New PoW/PoS coin | Fast, secure | Version 1.4 Released! on: January 31, 2014, 11:23:36 PM
I really trusted this coin, thats why i exchanged them for about 0.26 BTC (may seem low to you but its half of my money).

But right now im in a mess because i bought it when it was 52. Looks like my crypto-coin adventure is over lol.

I don't want to push you to do anything as this is your money, but there is a number of rules to follow when you do trading. I don't know all these rules as I am not a trader, but some of them I remember. One of the rules is how and when to buy. Let's look into your case.
You bought, say, 1000 at 52. Then the price went down. Provided the coin is really young and has not been traded on most exchanges yet, the chances its price will go up are high. The rule states not to sell now at 26, but buy some more. For the simplicity of calculations let's buy 1000 more at 26. Now we have 2000 that was bought at average price (52+26)/2, i.e. 39. Now, if the price grew to 40 and you sell then you already make a profit. So, the idea is to by some more when the price drops lower than your average purchase price and is stabilized in some reasonable time frame. Thus your average purchase price gets lower. You need to keep the track of all your trades to always know your average purchase price.

Again, this is just one principle and I might be missing something important, so take it with criticism.

Quite a nice way of looking at it. I follow certain buying rules as well, and I also have a "get out" figure in mind for a lot of coins, depending on how high I think that coin's potential is. As far as Grain is concerned, it's a long way off its potential value, so I will continue to hold onto my stake.

Grain is just going through a quiet patch due to all the excitement around new coins. It happens to any established coin. Once those new coins have been dumped on exchanges and the price goes down, they'll come back to coins they trust and know. So I'm not overly concerned. If anything it's simply an opportunity for me to obtain more Grain until we're back up again.

I did not delete the bock data i just used the cmd   premine-qt.exe -reindex

Will this be ok or do i have to delete the blk etc and redownload it?

I don't know if I have the same issue, but if I do, how do I use -reindex? Create a windows shortcut to QT and add the command -reindex?

If using windows

go to the folder the qt file is in but click NOTHING. press shift and right click

Scroll down to open command window here..

In command window type premine-qt.exe -reindex

press enter

That's a really handy tip. I didn't know you could point the command window like that! Very nice.

Just remember if you click anything in the folder you cannot get the cmd window. Full of handy little tips me lol that will be 499,919 premine fee please

You missed a few decimal places. Cheesy

2144  Economy / Computer hardware / Reputable Site That Sells USB Antminers? on: January 31, 2014, 10:55:26 PM
Does anyone know any reputable sites that sell USB Antminers? preferably for BTC? I'm looking to buy a couple for mining SHA-256 altcoins, however would rather spent the BTC I've made from mining.

Also willing to buy from traders, provided they have a good rep.

I did  it this way.

Ok, great. I'll reboot my machine tomorrow and see if I have the same issue. Would do it now, but you know how it is when you're busy mining.  Grin

I have about 1.6 ghash on Premine now. I know it's not a lot, but maybe I can invest in a decent ASIC miner with some BTC and get one running full time to support the network. Once I figure out where to buy one.

2148  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: MachineCoin launch - 0% premine on: January 31, 2014, 10:09:45 PM
I followed all the instructions, but after I create the conf file and then access machinecoind via command prompt, I just get the blinking _ underscore. When I try to shut it down I get a "machinecoind.exe has stopped working" error message. It works fine without the conf file, and I've created many conf files before so I know the information is correct.

Any ideas?

Edit: Nevermind. Got it working. Like that it takes a bit of effort to get this working. A refreshing change.

Well, as many of you very kindly sent me coins (around 20 actually), in the spirit of giving, I bought a few more and will give 5 away per person for the first 20 posters (100 total).

I know it is not a huge giveaway but it's all I can afford, and 5 is certainly better than nothing Smiley.

Link to giveaway - http://www.cryptorun.com/index.php?topic=4.0

If you want to donate to this giveaway so I can extend it then feel free to send your PMC to - 1NAgj9i6KenDmKjN7yegLa63eMiNPf8qYT
All donated coins will be added to the total or put towards another giveaway thread if sent after the current giveaway has finished.

I'm happy to help promote PMC, and of course send some PMC for your trouble, too. Let me know how the giveaway goes. If it goes well and you want to do another, get me a heads up.  Smiley

Current prices are..interesting. Seems it's going up.

If the next wallet isn't going to be for a while I could go back to figuring out how to write that auto tx fee rewarder I've been talking about, so there are tx fees to mine in every block.

I have to say, the dev has done a really impressive job. Despite the nasty wallet bug, he worked hard and released a fix within a couple of days. His hard work just makes this coin even more worthwhile to hold, and I'm excited to see what future Premine has. It is genuinely unique from all the other altcoins right now, and I'm glad to be a part of it.

When it does take off and have value, the coins I have for giveaways/development/promotion/etc will hold a lot more weight. I have 2k coins for the script I hope to get working, and another 3k for those other things. When the coin goes up in price, they'll hold a lot more weight to them. JSON-RPC PHP Library I don't quite understand yet, but like anything it takes trial, patience and error when working with a new code library.

Yeah, the coin does give it rather mixed messages, especially thanks to the video they've used on their website.

Sheesh..

Either be a serious coin, or a joke coin. Do not try to be both. I like the idea, and I like the coin logo. It just needs to be a bit more serious with its message.

I made the update last night, all looked well, I rebooted my pc today and when I opened the wallet I got this message?

http://imgur.com/dD5VopL

What did you delete before you installed the new wallet qt?

I deleted the blocks folder and the chainstate folder, I did not have a database folder at that time. Now I do.

My balance looks correct and the last transaction looks correct.

Could be something left other in the wallet.dat from the previous chain, although I'd only be guessing. If you wanted to try a clean wallet install by sending the coins to me and send back, and try reinstalling everything (including wallet), I'd be happy to give it a try. Again, it's just a guess, but possibly it's picking up something from the previous chain. Or if you have another machine you could try this on.

I've only just installed the new wallet myself. Haven't rebooted to see if I have the same problem.

I guess I could try it on the mining rig I am building. Otherwise if you reboot without issue I can send them your way.

So would I delete everything in the folders and appdata?

Yeah, I'm saying install the new wallet on another machine, send all your coins to it, delete everything on current machine, and do a clean re-install and then send them back. Backup your wallet.dat of course.

2158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Where can I discover coins priced at 1-2 satoshi? on: January 31, 2014, 05:19:26 PM
you sound like a newbie. if you buy those it doesnt mean they will necessarily rise in value. you can search for them in the exchange sites

i am

where?

if i put 1 btc in 5 of these new coins priced at 1 satoshi, one of them will likely go to 10 satoshi.. i'd still be up if even if i lose the rest. That's how i feel anyway

Better off getting a new coin at 1 satoshi before it hits an exchange.
Join coinedup.com, buy 2 or 3 LTC and get a few million of each cheap coin that trades for LTC. Drop me a PM and I will offer some advice. Don't spend all you have.

how many fck i get in 1 day with 500kh/s?

Maybe 200-500k? I'm not sure. Might still be better to solo mine even at this difficulty.

thx! how much is the diff right now?

Around 0.1 Last I heard, but I haven't checked recently.

Lot of new coins out getting a lot of buzz.

Just means I'll end up investing in more grain. A coin this good is not going anywhere.
