2161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hacking KNC Titan / Jupiter / Neptune miners back to life. Why not? on: June 02, 2018, 08:28:58 PM
It's quiet. Been very busy myself as well, and I really don't want to fix Bitmain's junk so things have quieted down at LF Labs. If a miner comes along that has potential to hold value like the Titan did I can always help out.

2162  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S7 Fire on: May 24, 2018, 10:43:58 PM
Ouch. I've been gone awhile but never thought to mention that when S7 and S9 boards are powered up the chip voltage regulator goes to a default which the chips themselves consume and turn into heat. Heat which sits on the sinks and does not dissipate without forced air.

This is more dangerous on the S9's: I was testing one of my test boards outside of the box and plugged into a supply (measuring signals at rest) with no controller. I walked away from it and forgot to power down. When I came back 30 minutes later the heat sinks fell off the bottom of the board (the board was at solder melting temps) and the thing scorched my work bench. Had I gone away longer there might have been a fire.

Moral: Respect these things.

Sorry, been away for awhile. The temp sensors are labelled T1 and T2. They are bottom center of the board, right outbound of the bottom two screws by the ISL chips that control the 6 phase FETs on each side.

You could ignore them by setting the temp on BFGMiner.conf to 200 or so, but make sure the temps on the chips really are reasonable before you do this.

i did look through the richardmille watch site, the one with dragon figures seemed okish

but $800k+ for a watch. lulz. no matter how rich i became, i would never pay that for a watch.

now, i could see myself with one of those olde skool red LED watches from the 70's.. press the button to light up the time. THOSE were cool.
I was watch shopping last year in Vegas, note that when you're in Cartier in Caesars, and they say they don't have what you want, but the Wynn probably does you're talking 150btc+. Bit much for my tastes, but beautiful stuff.

I'd recommend a 1960's Hamilton Electric, Titan or Ventura. The fact that you can keep it running will point you out as a man of means. :-)

Eh. Bitcoin is still fucked up, hodling. Everyone's got to complain about something, waah waah.

Then again it's much nicer to be stuck at 7k for a few years than $600.
2166  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Anyone know the Avalon 741 molex connector and how to repair it? on: March 27, 2018, 11:31:23 PM
Not to rub it in but... *why* on earth would a person wire these plugs using only 1 wire pair? Did they seriously think that it would work and all those other connections are just unneeded spares?
To be more serious, I'm guessing he had all three plugged in. The reason one toasted is that heat thing: Remember as the pins get hotter the resistance goes up. Which means it drops more voltage which means more heat. It's a positive feedback loop, and why you see one pin incinerate, then the second, then the third. With multiple plugs one burns first then the second then the third.

he had a bad day I guess
Heh. I remember someone who actually chained a second BFL single miner onto the second plug, and wondered why it toasted the first plug. Same engineering failure as the Kansas City walkway collapse.

(ie: oops)
2168  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Anyone know the Avalon 741 molex connector and how to repair it? on: March 27, 2018, 11:23:47 PM
lightfoot, is this a common problem with the HP common slot PSU's?  I had the same problem recently using Deepinthemines breakout boards with 750w PSU's
The root of the problem is either wires that are too small to the plug, or a power supply that sags under load. The sagging thing is interesting, if the voltage drops to 10v, the current has to go up to maintain the load. Since P=IE (mmmm, pie!) lower E=higher I. Which causes more heat, which increases the resistance of the pin which leads to more voltage dropped and the usual burning.

I use the Emerson supplies myself with 16 gauge wire plugs. No problem there. In terms of getting the plugs off I find that using some good old rosin/lead solder on the pins first (to allow with the ROHS) REALLY drops the melting point a nice bit and makes it easier. You can also get some chipquick. :-)

Dave's got it. I'd check first to make sure the fan on the front of the radiator is hooked up and working, then check to see if the radiator is getting warm (indication of pumps running). Then check to make sure the fan on the back works, then let's go from there.

The instructions are in this thread somewhere along with the part #. Give it a go, key is to use top quality flux, preheat, and a part picker to pull the old component without smearing the solder. Or you could pay me to do it, because why not :-)

Crunchy. I'd recommend sending it in for repair. The trick with these is you need to have preheat to warm the board enough to get the component off without damaging the vias. Doable, but requires some tools.

Sadly it lost its coveted position of the world’s most expensive coffee. There's other rarer stuff shit out by different, more exotic animals that's now selling for more.
I remember a pair of Hyacinth Macaws at a place I worked years ago. You could walk up to the cage, give them a nut, and they would either hand it back to you or drop it on the ground. If they handed it back it was perfect. If they dropped it, it was bad. There is no difference in the nuts from the outside.

Impressive.

PS: I see that Macallan site doesn't take bitcoin. What wankers.

somebody roll the mayor over

he'll drown in his own vomit like that
Far better than drowning in someone else's vomit.

So, who is going to sell at the bottom? Anyone?
2174  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 12, 2018, 08:20:39 PM

The bitconnect scam was glaringly obvious and the possible tether scam still hangs over us. Strangely very little noise about tether now ??
I didnt know about the Tron scam and its still trading away.
  Roll Eyes

good video though
The chick at 8 minutes in has a serious stud in her mouth. Weird.

Other than that no surprises.

Yes, they did. And also batching transactions. Along the past couple of months. Where have you been hiding lately? Smiley
Fixing miners and figuring out Antminers in my spare time. Man those things suck, no creativity at all in the design just a big rail of meh that is prone to overheating and blowing chips on the end. Yuck.

And not selling bitcoins, which is why I haven't been looking at the fees much lately. Seem rather reasonable again.
2176  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 11, 2018, 10:57:46 PM
Yup. I still use it as it has been many years depending on it. It seems to be less resource intensive and more clear than other sites. It's funny how a site that was basically abandoned for years is still the best (to my taste).
Oh I use and like it too and would donate coin to see some of the potholes fixed.

Worldcoin index isn't bad, but it's graphs can't hold a candle to btw.

Meantime looks like we're back at 9600 with only a few thousand transactions in the queue. What fixed the transaction backlog btw, did the major exchanges go segwit?

Bitcoinwisdom is no longer being supported if I recall correctly and is kind of abandoned. Which is a shame, it's a pretty good site.

You know, I have offered to review miners for companies, I would not touch this with a 10 foot pole.

is the BBB supposed to be powered directly or trough the controller board too get this too work ?
Controller board. The board was designed for a bbb, the Pi had to have a bridgeboard to translate.

Back over 10k with 6k or so transactions. Looks like Bitcoin has shrugged off another bunch of weak hands.

Hodl.
