1521  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T3-50T amperage on one of my board block at chip UT1 on: January 21, 2020, 11:13:27 PM
Ok. If it is a QFN chip I have had problems in the past with them seating properly on the pads. Solution was a fine layer of flux first, then chip. Zephlux seems to work pretty well.

Some of us have experience with surface mounted repair.

Yep, I have done a *lot* of those power plug repairs in the day. It's a combination of cheaper plugs on the part of the manufacturers and using power supplies that sag voltage under load (leading to higher amps at the plug which leads to more heat, etc). Then things just turn to a messy goop.

The trick to replacing them is pre-heating as they are directly tied into the power planes on the board which just wick away any heat applied from a normal soldering iron/heat gun. Bring the board up to temp, then a good iron can be used to loosen the pins without worrying about damaging any of the traces on the board or pulling out the via.

Make sure you flux the pins on the new plugs with something like zephlux before putting them in, always clean out the holes completely and don't force the new pins in, and of course spend the extra buck and get nickel PCIe plugs instead of the normal tin/brass ones. Nickel ones work a lot better....

How are you trying to change the chip? What tools/heat settings/flux/solder masks?

Eh, it's the price of living in a moderately civilized society. If I was located in a dumpster like Syria or insert name of lawless hellhole I would think differently, but how many of us bitcoiners really live in Detroit?
1525  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 17, 2020, 05:46:47 PM
Well, I had to cash out an entire bitcoin yesterday for expenses and such. This is why it's going over 9k.

Because the universe rotates around me, and the universe enjoys fucking with me :-)

So moon time! Every time I sell one that is one bitcoin I will never see again. Blah!

First sell yourself on the streets or something, if the juices or completely gone there.... then start selling corns

Close to that level. Also I promised myself that I would only fund my bitcoin work with bitcoins. Gives me incentive to get my ass working more, but not a whole lot going on in miner repair these days.

And just in time for all time highs, look at what Jaeger Lecoultre just came out with!

This is something I could get my wrist around. Hm......

Come on bitcoin, go!!!!!

(Normally I am a classic Patek slob, but this is an interesting form factor for a new watch)

I think I just heard Searing volunteering to do this. Cool!!!

Hm. The $200 for passing Go could be a block drop. That way there is no need for a bank to "pay" you, it's simply blocks being dropped as the game goes on.

Hm.
1530  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 16, 2020, 08:59:36 PM

Lol, monopoly is more accurate than I thought... They need to make a bitcoin/crypto edition too where bank is non existent in the game, I'm surprised they haven't come up with that yet

Hm. That would be interesting: Set a timer to run and create new money only on a specific basis. If there is no more bank money then tough noogies.

Wonder how that would impact gameplay....

Someone should sequence his DNA and put it on the blockchain.

Ah yes, the Philippines. You're right, they use weird stuff there. But at this level of power usage we're talking more "dryer" and less "cute home miner".

I've seen enough pictures of burned mining facilities and watched shorted miners explode to not want to see corners cut.
1534  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer T17e is not powering on: January 13, 2020, 08:43:25 PM
I think that's a 125 volt plug. I've found that a "20 amp rating" on a plug really means don't pull more than 75% or so non-stop. My electric car charging pulls 2.2kw at 240v for 10 hours and can make a 15a 240 volt socket a bit warm. For a 3400 watt load I'd go with this at the least with 12 gauge or better copper wire:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-20-Amp-Commercial-Grade-Double-Pole-Single-Outlet-White-R52-05821-0WS/100356999

And a twist-lock version if this thing really pulls that much power and you want to make sure the plug will never wiggle out a bit.

Sounds like these T17's are like the S9's were: You "could" run an S9 on a 120 volt 15 amp circuit but it was right at the edge and would overheat the plug. 20a was doable but the best bet was to run them off 240 volts. For the T17's it's sounding like one "might" run it on 240v 15a but really the right way is with a 20 amp circuit.

And if you have 208v instead of 240 volts the current draw goes up a good bit. 3400/208 is 16.4 amps which is a bit more than I would put on a 20 amp circuit and plug.

Maybe it's time to just build 3 phase power supplies.

A small video of you turning it on could be interesting. As everyone else said: What happened with the power?

1537  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to clean Asic Miner from Oil of Immersion Cooling? on: January 11, 2020, 03:45:09 PM
I've never used it, but it will probably work. Try it on one board and see if it cleans up and/or damages anything.

On the bad side I just found out Neil Peart is dead. There goes my hero.

Wait, she's not greek? Damn I was about to cash in some bitcoin for a trip. Guess I'll have to HODL...

I thought Greece was bankrupt and had no money?

See... you thought wrong, obviously.  Grin More than enough blondeeeeees around, enjoying our beautiful country while being good company.   Cheesy
