I do agree on modern used cars: With back up camera, lane changing crap and all the other oddball bells that are required... well that shit breaks and the manufacturer won't carry parts forever. Eventually they will be used up, far earlier than older cars were.

Tesla's..... jury is out. There are a *LOT* fewer parts to break, the electronics are very well designed, and to be honest the body/suspension is fine. Lot of stupid little stuff to break (see above) but the motor and such should last for a long time.

The trick is the battery: When a cell blows in a string that string is dead. Lose enough strings and range suffers. I don't know how long tesla packs last, and I think they have spare strings in there which are switched in as older ones blow to maintain range. Which is why they can turn on "escape range" in disaster areas. However the design is closed, so finding out what's going on in the pack and in the electronics requires a lot of reverse engineering (which is way difficult if they encrypt the code on the chips, which they probably do).

When we get to the web things get a bit muddier: At that point a lot of money started to be tossed into the whole thing, from a number of sources. By the early 90's Connect had failed spectacularly and was basically gone. So people hopped on the wagon and went to the web. Gopher and WAIS and Veronica got replaced by Web and whatever was the first search engines (WAIS worked on http) and yeah, as things started to seriously centralize (GeoCities, the lumbering dumpster fire that was QuantumLink I mean AOL) the older money started to pile in and as someone else pointed out the centralized nature began to grow.

That was the time the net forked a 14 carat shitcoin so to speak. But the real nightmare was when the penny papers returned with ad supported content. Web 2.0 or whatever. That's when it all went to complete and utter shit. Just like it did in the 1800's.

I'll stop it with the generation crap because it is more of a mindset than a generation per se. The mindset is what really switched when the first wave of big money came in and layered on the tools that would be used to enslave as opposed to free.

What kind of power supplies are you using? Power cables are usually rated in amps, but do not take power factor into their calculations. If a power supply has a PF of .8 then you'll actually be pulling 20% more Volt Amps than the watts you think you are pulling. Good power supplies can have a PF of .9 to .95, big difference.

Moral: You have to size your cables and plugs for volt amps more than watts. I've seen this happen a number of times.
