1221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FujiCoin | Japan | Since 2014 | The Best Crypto Currency on: April 13, 2020, 11:54:55 PM
This sounds similar to the Garlic Coin discussion from a few years ago. They asked me for opinions on the Titans and that the Titans were crowding out the GPUs.

I did some research and found that at a N value of around 14 the Titan would be similar in hashing speed to a 8gb top of the line video card. 16 would be similar to a 4gb GPU. So I recommended they raise the N factor from 11 to 14. Instead they went with a completely different algo to knock the Titans out and the coin totally failed.

Similar thought here: If you think the problem with FJC is that the Titans keep people with video cards out of the game (they do at 11) then bring the N factor up a bit and see what happens. Technically it should make no difference to the current miners, their hash rate will go down but the difficulty will then adjust and they will make the same amount of coin. At a certain level then GPUs can come in and make coin (all of this ignores value as FJC is worth < 1 sat right now) at a level parity with whatever titans are still on.

Or you close the door to the current miners, no one mines with GPU and the coin dies.

You don't have to quit. Just don't start again.
It can be a serious bitch: I haven't smoked for 20+ years, and I still find myself missing a good pipe.

Hm. Might be time to drop some gold.

So, been thinking pretty hard...

When exactly did we go from dystopian fiction being cautionary to being a fait accompli?

When people realized that they could take actions and get others to pay the consequences.

Quote
Clearly, Orwell intended his work as a cautionary tale. Emerging from the trauma of World War II, visions of totalitarian futures in fiction and film seemed to offer the viewer the chance to redeem the past by deciding how not to make the future. But somewhere, we lost our way.

Now, the trope of "the future" includes militarized cops and ubiquitous surveillance by default. Endless war and increased alienation from nature.

To quote Rick Sanchez: "God Damnit, when did this shit become the default?"

Quote
We can yet take 1984 as a warning, not as an eventuality.

The rest of this noise is bullshit.
To be brutally honest, this seems more of an episode of Atlas Shrugged than 1984. I read both books in the 1980's when I was a kid and recently re-read them. A.S. is truly a epic pile of crap with a very good concept:

What would happen if you could get other people to take the blame/responsibility for one's actions?
What would happen if people then stopped taking the blame/responsibility for the actions of others?

Objective Reality is not something that can be avoided, but it is possible to sacrifice another person so you can flout it.

I think that is where we are now: People want to make up their own fantasy worlds and show their strength not by producing or being a good person but by proving that reality no longer applies to them. They do this by sacrificing other people and have managed to get it to the point where other people do it willingly because of either guilt or fear that "if we don't work with these people, and give them what they want, things will get worse (tm)".

Yes the romantic subplots are crap and I have yet to see the greatest toilet plumber show up in Galt's Gulch. But the underlying concept is still quite interesting and a lot more rational than the sheer torture for the hell of it goal of 1984.

Oh that is neat, nice little pump.

And happy Easter all. I woke up, looked down, and said "He is Risen!".

US cases double in a week ... snake bites?
https://www.usnews.com/news/healthiest-communities/articles/2020-04-10/us-coronavirus-cases-doubled-in-1-week-cdc-says

some people are unbelievably stupid, snake bites really?
Interesting. We just passed 20k dead in the US on this one. Let's see on April 1 we had just gotten to 4000 after being at 2000 3 days earlier.

So 16,000 dead in 10 days. If we have 36,000 dead by April 20 then we're doing really well. Hm.

Not quite the millions dead in the original charts, but will be interesting to see.

You can just roll down to a local BTC machine and grab a quick 2k whenever needed.

malls closed man
Weird. Ones around here are in convenience stores and gas stations.

It's not that I don't agree, but what the fuck good does it do us in local wallets.  The sad fact is that you can't buy food with it yet.
It's safe.

Are we, at least, in agreement that the ultimate battle is between 2 & 3, and the others are merely a bunch of pussies?

I suppose. I'm trying to find a second choice there after 3 and the rest all look like a bag of bones. Would have to spend far too much time feeding them.

#3 is also the tallest. You want that too on an island.

face is most important for me if the other is nearly comparable. i would go with 1 and/or 2.  Cool
Interesting how we all just like different things....

You're not contradicting what I said.
Clarifying it. :-)

More to the point one can't lay the blame on the professionals for this one. We had a plan we had response teams, this same thing happened three times before. There was a defined process on how to respond that depended on cooperation, open information, and mutual respect.

The people of the US and several other countries voted in xenophobic morons who dismantled these systems, ignored the warning signs, started pointless pissing matches, and hid the results as long as possible. These "leaders" fire people who refuse to acknowledge their view of the world as right, and expect to be treated as forces of nature like hurricanes or floods.

This is the result.

So the people to flame are the ignorant fucks who felt they could get something for nothing and voted appropriately for leaders who granted their request. Seem to be a lot of them out there.

Most depressing part is we saw this all before, with a "leader" who ignored security briefings saying "Bin Laden will strike in the US soon", and sat on his ass reading "My Pet Goat" while the towers burned. However in that case an argument could be made that the "leader" was not elected, but appointed by the Supreme Court. No such cover exists for the current situation.

The failure to comprehensively test the population of the world for this virus is not just a failure of politicians. We pay them to fail us and they did so admirably. It highlights the abject powerlessness of all scientists and medics, who have been subservient to the state for far too long now. Until they collectively grow a pair of balls, we won't be trusting them either.

Sorry V8, I call bullshit on this one. The first doctor in China who raised the alert was forced to read a retraction of his statement and later died of the fucking thing. Likewise in the US Aircraft carrier captains (who are probably pretty expensive to train) are fired for speaking up by mealy mouthed "acting directors" who are then fired like toilet paper. And now has it as well.

The people responsible for this are the leaders and citizens of these States who followed the belief that they could have their cake and eat it too. Accept it.

Edit: Oddly enough I respect Johnson a bit more because of this. He truly lived his values and is now dying as a result. Trump by comparison is hiding in the White House behind endless tests for everyone around him. Trump doesn't live his values, he expects others to die for him so he can keep spouting nonsense.

South Korea: no second wave, no lockdown.

Now you can put a value/price on having a leader with a brain. Cool!

Also Boris Johnson claimed he shook hands with "everyone" including patients of coronavirus back in early March:
https://news.sky.com/video/coronavirus-i-shook-hands-with-everybody-11948548

If the virus takes out Boris this will be a shockwave across the world I think.
Hm. Possible that people will finally realize that reality exists?

Naah....

Bay, where did your post go. It was so funny I was trying to merit it. :-)

(can take a joke :-)

Blah, I'm trying not to be a jerk through all this.

That last post was out of line of me, so I removed it.  Tongue <3

Understood. I try really hard not to be an asshat myself but sometimes it slips out anyway. A good "you're being an asshat" every now and then helps to keep me in check.

Merited post regardless because it was funny.

Sorry to hear that. Guess the crisis actor thing is fake, who knew?

In other news, looks like the Trump Administration (I'd say the US Govt but it's really just Trump and his crap) is lying once again and under counting COVID deaths.

(See WaPo. They have screwed up links right now)

Will be interesting to see if they can keep these people off the "dead" roles long enough to vote R in November. After all I'm sure that is what they would have wanted.
