Wrong.  Sorry guys.

Bitcoin will not be able to stay above $45K for 10 consecutive days ever again.

Better sell.  Science and maths.  You know the drill.

...

I have been reading Taleb's paper about every other day or so since proudhon linked to it.

It's not easy to digest.  Nonetheless, I believe it is worth reading (and pondering) for anyone who has over 1% of their net in BTC.

Taleb would have built a stronger case had he better demonstrated the correlation between QE and market drops (both) vs. price changes in BTC.

Also, I find it a bit strange that he wrote the Foreword (in glowing terms) to Saifedean Ammous' seminal work The Bitcoin Standard (2018), a book I have re-read...

*   *   *

Still it is important to remember that Taleb is very respected in quantitative finance, probability and related fields.  He popularized the term "Black Swan".  He wrote four respected books on these subjects.

I would, and do, respect and keep up (to the extent I can) with Taleb and his thinking.  He may be very wrong on BTC, but he is worth listening to...

In what can only considered to be good news, Circle K (US convenience stores mostly in the S and SW USA) will soon be hosting thousands of Bitcoin Depot BTMs:

225  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2021 List Bitcoin Mixers Bitcoin Tumblers Websites on: July 23, 2021, 04:26:09 PM
I'd say it's time to remove this one from the list:
⭐Name: WhaleMixer

This is why:
I had no idea about the issues, I thought is it safe to use them since I found the website on this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2827109.0

"WhaleMixer" is collecting negative feedback, including mine, and is a proven liar.

Too bad for us that they are not a good mixer, as it is a good idea that someone could mix their coins with a reliable mixer and get "clean" coins (traceable back to exchanges, etc.) back.  Because many US exchanges and merchants do not like "dirty" coins (tainted by drug markets, thefts, ransomware, etc.) , there would likely be a real demand for such clean ones.

Someone will probably come along in due course and offer a straightforward and honest service.  And probably make lots of money...
226  Economy / Exchanges / Convenience store operator Circle K to host BTC ATMs on: July 23, 2021, 04:16:00 PM

Saw this on Fox Business this morning, and here are a couple of links:

Thousands more BTMs will be going into Circle K stores (convenience stores mostly found in the western and southern USA).  Bitcoin Depot machines.

Bitcoin is gaining traction...

Thanks and H/Ts to alert members tyz and jaysabi for catching that the NAME of the investment firm is apparently unrelated to the Rothschild family.

I'll lock the thread.
228  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will not be able to stay above $30k for 10 consecutive days ever again on: July 21, 2021, 05:59:16 AM
if so, at least and give us the rationale, for example with some fundamental analysis or some techniques how to read Bitcoin price movements for the next 10 days. As a small trader I am very enthusiastic to listen to your discussion, not just mere speculation and leaving many questions.

Thankfully, Taleb put all the maths, science, and research into an easy to read 6 page, irrefutable paper. Bitcoin is worth $0. The knowledge of that fact is simply taking a long time to sink in because there's so much fake news about bitcoin and scammers. Of course, it's now apparent that more and more of the market is catching on, which is how I know for certain that bitcoin will not be able to stay above $30k for 10 consecutive days ever again. Every year from here out will see lower and lower bitcoin prices until it reaches it's mathematically proven value of $0.

That was an interesting paper by N N Taleb*.  Parts of it are a tad technical, but to get the gist of it is not that difficult.  I was a little disappointed that he did not lay out an easy inflation hedge though.

On the other hand, I enjoyed his remarks on the Italian telephone tokens (gettoni), I remember using them several years ago at Lake Como to do my clothes at the laundromat (ya know back in the days before buying and then reselling my BTC).

I highly recommend Taleb's paper recommended to all BTC-ers.

* N N Taleb wrote the book The Black Swan, and is considered brilliant in the world of quantitative finance.

Bien terco su tio!

Bwa ha..

Ya gave him every chance then.  You could (silently) push the "AMF Button" (as we used to call it in the TX oilfields in the early 1980s).  Silently, 'cause he's family and all.
230  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: July 21, 2021, 02:43:08 AM
Were ChipMixer in a position to offer "clean chips" (coins with no taints or links to markets, other mixers, etc.) that might be extremely popular.

I have no idea how possible/easy/attractive that would be.  That would interest a lot of people however.
Calling some chips "clean" makes other chips "dirty". This damages Bitcoin reputation making it bad people money. We do not want that.

If we went dishonest and offered "clean chips" without explaining what makes them "clean" we could attract a lot of people especially if we advertised at dark net websites.
But with our price strategy more customers and more volume does not make more money. It makes us want to attract honest privacy minded people that know a lot or want to learn and they know what our tool is worth for them.

Fair enough.

I was not implying that you should/could offer "clean" chips in any dishonest way.  I also understand that various people have various reasons for wanting enhanced privacy.

@ JJG (various comments above sobre su tio)

First allow me to hedge my remark as I have not been able to keep up on all the recent pages here at W.O., you may have already explored this idea..

Why not just GIVE him outright some BTC gratis?  You could give him $15 worth just as a gift for him to keep an eye on.  Once he has the asset, he will likely want to monitor it for value.  If he will not even bother to set up a BTC account on mobile (perhaps the easiest fastest way for a n00b), then just give him a paper wallet.

You could always ask him to send the $15 back to you in the future (he might if it moons)

Or

Send back the BTC (if he declines to send back the BTC if/when it reaches $150,000, then you can safely say that you won).

Just an idea for your consideration.

EDIT: When I first entered Bitcoinlandia, someone I didn't even know gave me my first BTC.  I myself have given small amounts away to strangers and friends.

I don't know if the Rothschild family could really be called "speculators", but they have quadrupled their BTC HODLINGS since April.  Link and some scanty details:

They are whales, really BIG whales...  Seems bullish with a longer term outlook.

Hmm:

https://cointelegraph.com/news/rothschild-investment-corp-has-increased-its-bitcoin-exposure-by-300-since-april

It seems that as of now their HODLINGS are rather small.  But growing.

The Rothschilds are likely the world's richest family.  They own castles galore in Europe.  Banks.  Vineyards.  Gold.  They think very long-term.  Apparently they don't care if BTC price has moved down.

If we just look at wealth, the Rothschilds are the largest whales that exist.  They are also very well informed.  Very.

Sub $30,000 today.

Few days later but here it is.

Expect a big dump now, don’t say you weren’t warned.

Where's proudhon?  He could be taking a Victory Lap now.  Tinker some more with his model now.  Gloat..

237  Economy / Economics / BTC is helping out Cubans and Venezuelans on: July 16, 2021, 05:03:04 PM
...

For OPSEC reasons I don't (personally) want to go in to this topic too heavily myself, but this is already happening.

I have known about Venezuelans for years using BTC (and Dash) as a partial substitute for their worthless currency and hard-to-get US dollar fiat.  Apparently these efforts have been quite helpful to those in Venezuela in a position to use cryptos to make their lives better.

Now Cuban-Americans are sending BTC to embattled Cuba.  I do not know the amounts though.

These really ARE excellent use-cases in which BTC is helping to add value to the lives of those under oppression.  This is clearly a good thing.
238  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 06, 2021, 02:42:51 AM
Not really worried, but looking forward to the end of that 6-month period... Damn!  Shocked

Considering that vaccination in the US started in December and was ramping up quite fast in January (6+ months ago) it's obvious that this particular conspiratardery needs to be revised.

I'm only a couple of months in. I'll let you know if I'm dead by November.

Pretty similar to my situation.  Had the 2nd vax in mid-April (Pfizer), no complications.  I'm 65.

My sister got COVID, not severe other than that she lost her senses of smell and taste for about three weeks.  She recently got vaccinated as well.  When I asked her why, she said that her employer (she works in the medical industry) insisted.  No bad reaction re the shots either.
239  Economy / Speculation / BTC Prices and Transaction Volumes After Difficulty Change on: July 03, 2021, 01:00:24 AM
...

As I write there are 22 blocks until the Difficulty changes, it looks like it will be around a 28% drop, the biggest change in BTC history IIRC.  That should be roughly 1:00 AM (US Eastern Time).  I will be curious to see how the prices and BTC transaction volume change.  If either prices or volumes would NOT change after such a large drop, then perhaps difficulty changes would mean very little on their own.

BTC price has been in the $33,xxx for the past two days.

Anyone want to weigh in?

I recently had my first physical exam as it had been a while, and I'm getting older...  Among the many things we discussed was his preoccupation with our HUGE problem with various elites (esp. .gov) LYING about so much.  He was very disheartened, and it's not just goobermint, it's so much else.  Well, yeah, Doc.  A Culture of Lies.  Ugh.

Our conversation crystallized something for me.  I believe even less what I am told, especially by the MSM, .gov officials, Banksters, etc.

But, my Dr. sure ain't perfect, even with the points we discussed.  He refused to give Rx's for Ivermectin and HCQ.  We're vaccinated, but we know MOAR pandemics are coming.  Yet he would not allow me to get them (and yes I know that they may not work, but that ought to be my decision).  Grrr...
