221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin won’t hardfork like Ethereum on: April 05, 2017, 12:15:00 PM
There are fundamental differences between the bitcoin and ethereum. These differences are certainly related to the protocol of each cryptocurrency like as the reason of their existence. It's sure that all of these will influence the way of a hardfork so it is wrong to compare each other. But the most important between bitcoin and not only the eth but all the altcoins is the network effect of the leader. So if the big base of users which supports the bitcoin and maintains this effect ceases to exist due to hardfork and the price crashes then people who caused it will understand that maybe there was not any reason for the scaling debate because the remaining bitcoin users will be very few to full the blocks with their transactions.
222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will that be? on: April 05, 2017, 07:08:45 AM
When will be the time to have 80%+ of your all wealth in bitcoin? Will there ever come such a time?
I think bitcoin or any other, but there will definitely come a time when most of a person's wealth be in the form of digital. Do you think bitcoin has the potential to be that digital asset?

I can't understand the percentage (80%) and what that means. To my point of view not all eggs in the same basket. Therefore, there are other assets someone to put his wealth and savings too. Even though I have a strong belief to digital currencies and especially in bitcoin it's not easy to see what will happen in future and bitcoin is volatile to trust my wealth.
223  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is science a religion? on: April 04, 2017, 08:43:52 PM
According to John Hedley Brooke all these are due to a huge misunderstanding that starts from the wrong definition of what is religion and what is science. This misunderstanding is fueled the distrust and lack of respect between the two sides. That is, religion is not the route search of the objective truth - that which science seeks - but the communication path with the supernatural, that may we think and many times these are complementary forces each answering in different human needs.
224  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What good books/Youtube channels can be recommended to learn Cryptography... on: April 04, 2017, 07:49:49 PM
that is closely related to Bitcoin?BTC

Thank you!

I don't know your level in cryptography but recently I was enrolled in a MOOC of Princeton University which is entitled as Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies using the Coursera platform. I believe that you can have access in videos and assignments even though has already finished so as to learn some things. In these videos professors are speaking in a initial level of cryptography.
225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? Is he worth over $10 Billion USD today? on: April 04, 2017, 05:51:50 PM
Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?
Where are his Bitcoins?
What is  his Bitcoin address?
Is he worth over $10 Billion USD today?
Nobody have any information regarding him so he is still anonymous.

Bitcoins in his known addresses are still untouched.

There is no exact list of all addresses that he own.

May be more than that but it looks like he is not willing to be billionaire.

Correct. Let's just leave him and if he is after the money then absolutely he should have surface by now and claimed it. However, he wants to remain anonymous and worked hard for it so I doubt he shows up. He has his reasons, maybe because he was afraid of his life. And as time goes by, its proven that he should hide himself. Because bitcoin has change how the economics of on-line payment is and maybe the government will hunt him down for introducing a pseudo-anonymous currency, which is the bitcoin.

As many people I believe there is not this person and is a fiction one or is a group behind him. As many in this forum had already posted there is no reason find him especially when his coins are sitting in the blockchain. When these coins starting to 'move' there are people to spread it everywhere in the net. Since then there is no reason searching for him.
226  Economy / Economics / Re: Which country are you from? Here list THIRTY popular bitcoin countries for trade on: April 04, 2017, 12:55:48 PM
Its surprising to see Nigeria taking the number 14 spot on the list. If the list is credible to be trusted then I am really surprised that despite several reports that the cpoury is known for scammers they could still have a spot over there... Its really surprising...

that's racist. there has never been any evidence of Nigerian people being scammers. the thing you heard was some scammer from somewhere else who used the words "Nigerian prince" and it caught on as widespread scam and finally as a joke that stuck.

and bitcoin has been growing in Africa for some time now. it started with some advertising over there and then their bad economy helped and eventually the trade volume picked up and it is still growing.

I had no intention to answer in your post, but you are very wrong and it's unfair for rest of people worldwide to accuse them that they are racists because they speak about Nigerian fraud or scam. May be all of these scammers are not Nigerians but live in this country or I don't know why. But, if you make a simple search in any search engine maybe a popular one say Google with the phrase 'nigerian frauds' you will be surprised from the results. The very first result is from scamwatch site where in the 3rd paragraph writes' These scams are often known as 'Nigerian 419' scams because the first wave of them came from Nigeria', period. Moreover I would eager to learn why Wikipedia is writing about nigeria 419 mail scam and maybe BBC is racist news site too? No offense, please.
227  Economy / Economics / Re: Gibraltar War on: April 04, 2017, 12:11:08 PM
35 years ago Thatcher sent army in the Falklands islands to the other side of the Atlantic ocean. Now the Britain will engage war with Spain which until yesterday was at the same table of the European Union? It makes a great impression to me but Britain should understand that things not only in Europe have changed. Now they have the problem of Scotland's independence. Do they like to stay alone all over the world? But who really knows?
228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best source of bitcoin nowadays? on: April 04, 2017, 08:59:47 AM
I don't know why the @OP has not include as major revenue category services or sales with payment as bitcoin. Maybe because many people has the belief that nobody will pay them with bitcoin. Therefore, I don't consider as source of bitcoin HYIP and ponzi schemes like as the gambling too, but only trading and others. But does it so easy for many of us to have profits from trading?
229  Other / Meta / Re: Need some help for increasing my rank. on: April 02, 2017, 04:54:50 PM
Do not worry about your rank. It should be spontaneous ... once you deserve it you get it.

IMO everyone focusing to his rank has some ulterior motives ... like earning trust just to be able to scam a higher amounts or to sell the account once become higher member ( 2nd thing I hate most )
Not saying it is always true, just my personal opinion.

BTT: Maybe it will surprise you but rank is purely about number of posts (not the quality). I'm hero and my post quality is disputable but I don't care about rank ( I'm just glad if I can help others, catch scammers or simply having fun )

Thanks for your honest comment on this topic and yes I also believe that though we can't deny that many of us here for some ulterior motives we can help the forum by participating and sharing our ideas and opinions on many matters relative to cryptocurrency.

Now, I have seen members here like you who have an equal activity points and number of posts while there are those who are only getting 25% activity points compared to their number of posts...what can really account for that discrepancy?

Activity and frequency of posting are two different things but there is a formula which connects them and do the proper calculation. The following is from this thread

activity = min(time * 14, posts)

More over if you would like to see the activity periods there is a google spreadsheet
BTCtalk Activity times

230  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum and Gpg4win on: April 01, 2017, 09:48:26 PM
Hitech, OH MY GOSH..I got it.
I took a look at my certificates and realized that you had two certificates by Thomas. I search for them, imported the other one by Thomas that was from a Danish email, certified it, trusted it. Then verified my electrum exe.asc file.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/vef5zxyo0aayye9/Screenshot%202017-03-30%2018.54.15.png?dl=0

I thank you very much for your patience.

Peter

It's great to hear you got it working. Kleopatera isn't easy to configure, but it's the only windows GUI software I know of that can properly verify files. There's easier to use alternatives for simpler tasks, and sooner or later one will probably add support for proper file verification. Until then there's no real alternative to Kleopatera/Gpg4win for windows if you want a GUI.

I used both of your methods; that is firstly downloading .asc file and secondly from pgp servers. Works great for me too. Thank you for your effort @HI-TEC99 because I was trying a lot time ago to find how to verify the electrum but always I had an error like as 'invalid data' or at least I knew that was signed by ThomasV but it was not fully trusted. It is a very detailed and valid guide like as your comments that all files have been in same folder.
231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top 10 Bitcoin Wallets in 2017 on: April 01, 2017, 04:17:49 PM
The Bitcoin wallets contain the private and public address, which is used to gain access to your Bitcoins. There are different types of Bitcoin wallets in the market so choosing among them is quite difficult. These wallets help you to go to destination to the store, receive and send Bitcoins. Here, in my article, I had shortlisted Top 10 Bitcoin wallets according to Company Reputation, Open Source/Security, Privacy, MultiSig account, Backup features and the Web Platform Availability. To know more please click http://atozforex.com/news/top-10-bitcoin-wallets-2017/

Suggestions and comments appreciated. Please update me with the best bitcoin wallet you are using.  Smiley

To my point of view some of these are belonging to worldwide known wallets but I don't agree with your classification. All in the same basket (web, desktop, HD wallets). More over it is very subjective because there are no explanations why mycelium is the 1st and so on. That is, armory and electrum in 3rd and 5th position for what reasons from these which you already have mentioned? And Airbitz? How many users using it? Where is something like ledger? So I could propose another classification using different rating scale according the features which taken under your consideration. That is a rating scale for open source/security and a different one for web availability.

233  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin to be international currency on: April 01, 2017, 07:06:59 AM
It seems not yet deserve, this is because the issue is not the existence of the State approved the use of bitcoin. If there are any countries or banks that accept bitcoin, probably bitcoin make decent candidate.
I don't know of banks that officially receive and send bitcoin payments. Perhaps this is due to licensing. Banks do not want to risk their licenses and try to stay away from bitcoin.

Why someone needs to transact with bank? There are other ways like as the bitcoin cards. All of them are debit cards and when their users fill it with bitcoins they can store the balance and use it for shopping or with ATMs like the usual VISA cards. It's a very handy way for any transaction in places where bitcoin is not accepted as medium of payment.
234  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Happen If Gambling was not introduced? on: March 31, 2017, 11:39:04 PM
I do not know what was first time in the humanity history people they tried to gamble but I am pretty sure that the human beings after their basic needs they start to find ways to earn any kind of money. Easy profit (and loss too) and the feeling of excitement made some many people to gamble on a daily basis without thinking anything else; that is, like being addicted to drugs. Unfortunately, for some people instead of an enjoyable experience can become the everyday madness that will eventually lead them to disaster.
235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When I talk to NON-BitcoinTalkers they don't know.. on: March 31, 2017, 09:11:36 PM
My brother's wife is also into bitcoin but not into trading. She is into hypes in facebook and doublers and so when I asked her about what her side on BU whether she is a pro or not and I got no respond to it. I was amaze how they were crazily investing to bitcoin when I told her the price is going down and o show her the graph from coinmarketcap and the price. But what she just said is that, it will be back to 1200.

They have so much trust to bitcoin that they never know what ETH and Monero.  I figured I;m not the right person to talk to her about it. I guess I just have to let her realize on her own.

This is in general truth all over the world. Recently I have wrote in some posts where people claimed that the dominance of bitcoin as the leader of cryptocurrencies will vanish and another altcoin will take this position etc., that bitcoin has value because people want it and do not want anything other than this. Moreover I believe if bitcoin crashes many alts, if not all of them, will be disappeared because people will go to the next big thing.
236  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do Atheists hate Religion ? on: March 31, 2017, 06:19:02 PM
That is a fallacy. Atheists do not hate any religion because you can not hate something you do not believe that it really exists. An atheist, simply is not convinced of the God's existence. But not nurture any hatred for those who believe, or to what they are respected to. Simply he is not convinced, and is open to all which he can understand with his senses without blinkers and obsessions. On the other side, an atheist is dogmatic in his views that there is no God. This rules him with certainty, and with religious zeal. This man his religion is a religion contrary to the faith. The philosophy of religion ends up, as far as the absolute dogmatism pushes him to similar influences in his life.
237  Economy / Economics / Re: Prediction for 2017 - share your views on: March 31, 2017, 06:00:55 PM
It's very difficult someone to predict the price during the 2017. Things with debate scalability are going more and more bad and there is not a point the two camps to agree. On the other side, people they are keeping the price more or less $1000 which means they are waiting so as to do their next move. If there was not the debate the price would be, imo, more than $1500.
238  Economy / Economics / Re: Is USD being used for illegal activities? on: March 31, 2017, 05:02:23 PM
While this is pretty funny, they are reasonable to suggest Bitcoin is very likely to be used for illegal activities.  Online, you can't really use USD without being tracked but if you use your Bitcoin properly you can pretty much stop anyone from finding your transactions.

Do you really believe something like that. That is, bitcoin can be used for illegal activities without government authorities to find your transactions? I dont believe that is really true due to bitcoin protocol. This is the reason nowadays monero is the crypto which usually people use when they do care to be untraceable.
239  Economy / Economics / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto should be richer than Bill Gates. on: March 31, 2017, 04:55:20 PM
We all know Bill Gates the owner of microsoft is the most richest man in the world. Total wealth of $80 Billion US dollars. While satoshi nakamoto the owner and founder of bitcoin only have $1 billion US dollars, Why he cant just generate indefinite amount of bitcoins for him and exchange it to real cash, right? Any thoughts?

Why people all of these centuries they had given value to precious metals (silver, gold, platinum) and they continue to do the same till now? If gold and the rest precious metals were something that there is in abundance and everywhere then all of these can not have any value, it would be like the inflationary fiat money. That should be rare but not too rare! The same is with bitcoin. It is a digital scarce coin. If anybody could create any amount he wants then the price of bitcoin could be absolutely zero.
240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trackable on: March 31, 2017, 12:22:04 PM

--snip--

As long as you mess with FIAT you'll be trackable. If you use banks, it's obvious, they'll be able to track you. Use cash? They'll track the one who you made the deal and eventually find your tracks.

If you want to stay anonymous; get bitcoins, send bitcoins. Don't let FIAT involved.

It is clear that many people believe that bitcoin usage is anonymous and nobody can reveal their real identity. I do not know why they have this opinion but would be better for them to understand that bitcoin is only pseudonymous. Hence, there are some mixing services (tumblers) trying to protect the identity of their users.
