What bothers me is the return code 65280.

Unfortunately i am not sure what causes this, but it might be a faulty script ? Are you able to call it from the command line properly using /usr/bin/php /home/bitcoin/script.php ?

You might try it with a simple shell script to see whether your php script is the reason or some configuration. Something like this should be enough:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
echo $(date +"%D - %H:%M:%S") >> /tmp/is_it_working

Place it anywhere and change walletnotify to:
Code:
walletnotify=/bin/bash /path/to/test.sh %s

See whether it can be called properly. If so, it should create a file in /tmp and the current time/date should be inside of the file.

If this dummy script is working, your script seems to be faulty. In this case post it somewhere so we can take a look at it. If you don't want to paste it publicly, feel free to PM it to me. I'll try to take a look at it.
If this dummy script isn't working either, some configuration is faulty, but currently not sure what exactly. Permissions maybe ?

and really, it's another way of saying "Windows and Mac are insecure by default"

Well, they are.
Most malware simply is coded for windows. And the majority of mac user are not techy at all. Most of them can't even update their browser themselves.

Those people are way easier to be tricked into downloading/installing malware.

And an AV would at least protect against already known threats or obvious malware actions.

and some company makes your Win/Mac computer secure, for free? because some tiny percentage pay for the "full" application?

It doesn't make it secure. But it at least adds some security to it.
The companies earn from the premium subscription and from the information your computer is sending them back whenever something strange happens (i.e. new file making new weird actions, etc.).

Spot9 wants to become the first full service crypto bank

Start-up ohne etwas dahinter.

Grin
2205  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How safe is Electrum wallet? on: August 28, 2019, 07:18:43 PM
Generally, each desktop wallet can only be as secure as your computer is.
If your computer is infected with malware, your coins are at risk.

Regarding safety, if you have a backup of your mnemonic code (12 words), you are fine.
You don't need to save any private keys. All private keys can be derived from the mnemonic code. Just make sure to store it in a secure place. Be careful, anyone with access to the mnemonic code can recreate your wallet.

Additionally, make sure to download updates only from https://electrum.org. And always verify the signature before installing it. This takes less than 2 minutes and makes sure you are using the original electrum wallet. There are several guides available on the internet, as well as on electrum.org.
2206  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum error: not enough Credit on: August 28, 2019, 07:11:31 PM
You are right with the fact, that it's not possible that you can't send them.

Chances are high that you created a 2FA wallet. With this, you are using a 3rd party to co-sign your transactions (they can't steal your funds).
TrustedCoin charges 0.0005 BTC per transaction and you need to buy credits for 20 iirc. That would be 0.01 BTC additional fee for your 1st transaction (with credits for the next 19 co-signed tx's).

Since your wallet cointains 20€, which is roughly 0.002BTC, that's probably the issue.
A lot of people had the same problem once setting up a 2FA wallet.

Can you confirm whether you have set up a 2FA wallet ?
2207  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano S vs Nano X capacity on: August 28, 2019, 07:02:24 PM
It's better to purchase the USB from ledger only as it's durable and plus safe to use.
Any USB cable is fine. There is literally no point paying 15 bucks for a cable. A $2 will do the exact same job.

Not literally any cable.
It needs to have the data pins too, not only the power pins  Tongue

Ledger live isn't fully developed for Nano S users and they can only view the balance (not transact).
Not accurate. Ledger Live Android version is fully functioning with Nano S devices, including sending transactions. It is only iPhones that are restricted to view only.
https://www.ledger.com/ledger-nano-s-ledger-live-mobile-compatibility-now-available-for-android-users/

And there are other additional wallets (on android) which support the ledger nano, e.g. Mycelium (fully functional, not viewing only).

I wouldn't worry about it if you meant vulnerability such as Side-channel on Nano S/X display.
Such attack only happens on movie (where you're very rich/important person).

I'm looking forward to the next season of Mr. Robot, wouldn't be surprised to see it there.  Cheesy
2208  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Unterschiede „Empfangsadresse“ Bitcoin - public key... on: August 28, 2019, 06:56:17 PM

BitcoinCore verwendet KEINE Masterseed!

2209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero wallet - no payment ID required? on: August 28, 2019, 10:13:16 AM
Reading online monero is supported by ledger but i can't find the app on my device or the phone/computer manager??

Anyone tell me how to do it?

The monero application can be installed using the 'manager' in ledger live (Click on 'manager' on the left -> search for 'monero').
Then you just need a monero wallet which supports ledger nano (e.g. the full node wallet).

I can see and install the application without any problems.
2210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Checking Address Balance with Bitcoin Core on: August 28, 2019, 09:30:06 AM
Your config looks right to me.

You have basically two options to call your php script.

1)
Like you are trying it to do:
Code:
walletnotify=/home/bitcoin/walletnotify.php %s

This requires your php file to be executable (chmod +x) and a shebang pointing to the php executable in the first line of your script (e.g.  #!/usr/bin/php)

2)
Code:
walletnotify=/usr/bin/php /home/bitcoin/walletnotify.php %s

This does not require the file to be executable or to contain a shebang in the first line.

Note that you have to replace /usr/bin/php with your actual path to the php executable, which can be found using this command:
Code:
which php

is phishing a virus?

it's not, is it?

Well, not really, no.

But malware can be part of a phishing campaign, which itself is geared towards gaining sensitive information of the victim (e.g. private keys).
Multiple user already have downloaded malware from a fake electrum site and tried to install it. Luckily their AV prevented that.

I'd still always recommend people who are using windows or mac to always use an AV. It usually brings more value than it creates inconveniences.
2212  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen Split key generation ? on: August 27, 2019, 04:11:58 PM
I asked for an advice and all you do is trying to discredit me.

Huh ?
Because i said that it is very unlikely ?

Let me think.. a powerful GPU needs roughly 445.403.702.764.800.000 years on average.
And you want to tell me that you found such an address with a CPU in 1 year ?

There are so many trolls here claiming to have bruteforced satoshis private keys and whatsoever..
No offense.. but you seem to be one of these trolls.

So what do you guys think what's is the value of this address? that is if we disregard the pk issue

As mentioned. Nothing.

You can not call it a 'private key issue'.
That is the curcial point. That's wall that matters.

If a 3rd person knows the private key, it is worth nothing. In numbers: 0
2213  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen Split key generation ? on: August 27, 2019, 03:26:32 PM
I have really really powerful processor, but still after some research I see that i was very lucky to find prefix that long. $20 seems super cheap now, tell me what to do guys, I am not really an expert

Since you are in possession of the private key, the address isn't worth anything anymore to other people.

There is simply no way for them to be sure you won't use that private key to steal funds / sign messages in their name.

Btw.. a really really powerful processor would not be enough to generate a 17 char prefix within a year Wink
It wouldn't even be possible within your lifetime.

A 12 char prefix with a high end graphic card would take roughly 117.000 years on average. I really doubt you found a 17 char long with a 'really powerful processor'  Smiley

2215  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: 3.3.8 downloaded, coins missing? on: August 27, 2019, 11:00:47 AM
Ok step by step
Downloaded App 3.3.8
Entered password
Do have a 12 word phrase, was not asked to enter it
Only have one wallet (default, no extension)
Entries under Addresses
All start with '1'

So, you already had electrum installed on this computer, right ? Do you remember whether the addresses also started with 1.. ?
The password you entered was the password to open your default_wallet ?

The good thing is, as long as you have your 12 words, your coins are safe.

You might still try to check one of your first addresses in a block explorer (e.g. https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/), whether it has a balance or transaction history.
2216  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory stuck on "Preparing Databases" on: August 27, 2019, 10:39:50 AM
I'm confused, I have btc core installed in its own folder D:\BitcoinCore, in that folder there is the blocks folder. I tried to load armory with D:\BitcoinCore\blocks and just D:\BitcoinCore as the datadir but after both attempts armory is still preparing databases.

With datadir you are referring to satoshi-datadir as mentioned by BitCryptex, right ?

Because there are 2 different parameters:

  • datadir: For armory config files etc. (not what you want to edit)
  • satoshi-datadir: This one should point to the block folders of core (that's the one you want to edit)

Edit:
Was too late with my reply. You set the correct parameter.

That's the output of the log:
Code:
2019-08-27 05:35:36 (ERROR) -- BDM.pyc:268 - setSatoshiDir: directory does not exist: <D:\BitcoinCore>

Are you sure the directory is correct ?
D:\BitcoinCore\blocks should be the correct one if you installed core into D:\BitcoinCore.

Can you verify whether there is a folder named blocks inside of this directory ?
May it be possible that you installed core into this directory but it still uses the standard one (C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin\blocks) as its data/blockchain directory ?
2217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Checking Address Balance with Bitcoin Core on: August 27, 2019, 10:35:56 AM
With walletnotify I'd just get a new transaction and I can use the tx info to determine which address it goes towards and update in mysql the number of transactions for that order, however I want to handle cases where users need to send multiple transactions to the address for example if the first transaction wasnt enough to pay the whole tab. II was thinking use blocknotify then search my database for all orders with less than required confirmations and have orders associated with the address for the order. With multiple transactions, using one confirmations field in the database doesnt work so whats a strategy I could use to keep track of all the different transactions for each address/order? I'd have to keep track of all the transactions confirmations in a separate table and associate them with the order ID in the table keeping track of orders wouldnt I?

You could associate one order to one address and then keep track of all transactions to this order. You could have tables like this:
order <-> address (1:1)
address <-> transactions (1:n)
transaction <-> confirmation (1:n)

I think this should work (not absolutely sure about any edge cases).

I'm kind of having trouble coming up with how to handle block notify since it sends block hash instead of tx hash.

You should use blocknotify only to count confirmations.

Better use walletnotify for all incoming transactions -> assigning in your database etc. and for the first confirmation.
Then increase the count of the confirmations the next time blocknotify is called. I don't think you need blocknotify for anything else.

Or am i missing something ?
2218  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: 3.3.8 downloaded, coins missing? on: August 27, 2019, 10:00:36 AM
I assume you already had an electrum wallet and downloaded a new version now, right ?
Do you see 'addresses' in your new wallet (e.g. go to the addresses tab). What do these start with (1.. 3.. or bc1.. ) ?

Maybe you have multiple wallet files ? Go to file -> open and look whether there are multiple files (without extension). The default wallet is called default_wallet.
If you know which address should contain some balance, visit https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/ and enter your address in the search bar. Do you see any balance / transactions there ?

Or didn't you have electrum installed on your computer at all ? How did you create the wallet then ? What exact steps, did you restore it by entering 12 words ? Or did you create a new wallet ?
Do you have your backup phrase (12 words) ?
2219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Checking Address Balance with Bitcoin Core on: August 27, 2019, 09:52:39 AM
So I just thought about it, what would I do in the case that my node went down and wasnt running for all the new transactions or blocks? Would it just skip over those notifications or handle them when the node restarts?

Those scripts would be run whenever your node receive a block / transaction.

If your node is down, it doesn't receive anything.
When you start it up again, and it starts catching up those missing blocks, all received blocks will call blocknotify and all transactions to your wallet received will call walletnotify.

It does not skip anything. It resumes operation after the node is up again.

Also, when I use listtransactions does it list all transactions in the block or just transactions in that block for my addresses associated with my xpub?

listtransactions gives you the last X transaction sent to your wallet.

@cryptojor

anti-virus is a pointless waste of space, just delete the av program

in the days when updating your system over the internet was unheard of, computer viruses sometimes did spread. in practice, they were still rare.

now, there are no malware threats that cannot be mitigated by simply choosing a secure operating system, and keeping it up to date. I've been doing exactly that for 10 years, any virus worth a damn would have stolen some of my BTC, and that hasn't happened.

I disagree.

Several user already have been warned from electrum phishing sites (or even from the malware they downloaded from that site) by their AV.
They would have lost their coins without an AV.

While AV's only recognize already known or blatantly stupid malware, every average windows- or mac user should have one installed.

And neither mac or linux are safe from malware. There is malware for these operating systems, less than 2-3%, but still it exists.
A secure operating system doesn't protect you against 1) malware being executed by non-techy people or 2) other kinds of targeted attacks (which are very costly and complex).

Changing the OS doesn't protect an absolute non-techy person at all, IMO.
Good OS in combination with common sense and some technical knowledge does.

I think it it safe to assume that you are not a clicky-pointy type of person who is running a colorful windows installation. You don't need an AV. That's fine, me neither.
But i would never suggest other people reading this (especially those running windows being not techy at all) to live without an AV. It offers at least some level of security.
