1301  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wallets that support BIP47 and PayNyms on: August 18, 2020, 11:18:50 AM
Samourai is - unfortunately - the only reputable wallet i am aware of, which has this protocol implemented.
Currently, it is your best option.

Unless the demand for privacy increases, i believe it will be the only viable option in the near future.

A few people have asked for reusable payment codes on wasabi's github, but not enough to properly show the demand.
1302  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Best Way to Encrypt Recovery Words for Wallet for Heirs? on: August 18, 2020, 11:13:42 AM
You don't necessarily need to encrypt your mnemonic code this way.

A different approach would be to use a secret sharing scheme and divide the secret into 3 parts where at least 2 (or 3) are required.
Each group gets one part of the mnemonic, and the last one will be stored in your will.

This way, no information is being leaked with n-1 shares (where n is the required amount to unhide the secret).
With n = 3 (so 3 out of 3 sharing scheme), all shares are needed: Group A, Group B and the share from your will.

Not saying that you should use this approach. Just giving you some ideas and other possibilities.

I've found 3 websites which can decrypt the same phrase reliably, but I'm trying to find a downloadable Executable or VBA Macro which can also decrypt it and am having trouble finding something which can decrypt properly.  Any suggestions?

Don't use websites for that.
The easiest would probably be to write 10 lines of python code to do that.

Electrum is a BTC wallet. Not a USDT wallet.
So everything is just as it is supposed to be.

Since you didn't give us more information, all we can do is to assume what your issue is. Use the correct wallet and you are fine.
1304  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet on: August 18, 2020, 10:57:58 AM
I store them offline but still on computer too, will may take a further step to prevent future attacks and store it further than where it currenty is take it off the computer and store it cold I believe the terminology is.

Generally, it is advised to not store the mnemonic code on an internet-connected device.
Storing it offline is usually the best method.

Since your mnemonic code already has been stored on an online device, removing it from there doesn't make it automatically more secure.
Especially since your wallet is being used on an internet-connected PC anyway.

Don't get me wrong. Not storing it anymore on your PC definitely is a good first step. But it doesn't decrease the risks by a lot.

Its shocking about not needing the passphrase to load the wallet and with the seed people could access funds. Just makes me want to be a step closer to strong internet security

You can encrypt the mnemonic code. Quite a lot of wallets offer the option to use a passphrase together with the BIP39 (or electrum) mnemonic code.
1305  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Can't access my money because of the derivation path on: August 18, 2020, 10:51:54 AM
Is there a way to verify if the seed he's using is in charge of that address? If that is so, then it must be a derivation path issue, right?
Maybe signing a message?

Unfortunately, no.

The only way would be to bruteforce it yourself.
This would mean you'd need a short script to try each derivation path until you are successful. You should find someone to code it for your for ~10$.
If you decide to do so, make sure to check the code tho.
1306  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet uncomfirmed transaction be used to pump fee on: August 18, 2020, 10:47:00 AM
It sounds like you're trying to bump transaction A by making a new transaction B, but that only works if B uses at least one of the outputs from A as input.

I think he didn't try to do a CPFP, but a RBF transaction.

As far as i understood:
  • He did send a transaction with a fee too low
  • He did not have enough coins to bump the fee accordingly
  • He sent more coins to his wallet (to perform RBF)
  • He tried to RBF with more funds from an incoming unconfirmed transaction
1307  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: FOR NEWBIES, wallets to choose from and analysis by Veriphi on: August 18, 2020, 10:40:25 AM
Encrypted hot-wallets, stored in encrypted USBs, and plugged in in a computer exclusive for Bitcoin transactions, only if needed could be safe enough for most newbies' needs in my opinion.

If there is already a dedicated PC only for BTC transactions, it might as well be used as a cold wallet.

This is way too overkill for a hot wallet. You might as well just use a single USB with a bootable linux distro and the wallet file saved on some persistent storage on it (maybe even encrypted inside a veracrypt container or encrypted via LUKS).
That's just as secure as your approach, but doesn't need a dedicated PC (which could be used as cold storage anyway).
1308  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: I send BTC to offline wallet on: August 14, 2020, 09:50:42 AM
i dont have the bitcoin core on the same disk maybe thats the error? and it think its fully synced cause ive rebuild and rescan armory once but i am so lost so i actually have no idea of anything so please explain more detail

No, everything is fine.
The mistake was on my side due to me misinterpreting your logfile. I was looking at earlier entries, where the correct path wasn't set yet, as pointed out by HCP.
1309  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: I send BTC to offline wallet on: August 13, 2020, 06:43:51 PM
Code:
2020-08-06 19:21 (ERROR) -- BDM.pyc:275 - setSatoshiDir: directory does not exist: C:\Users\viggo\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin\
[...]
2020-08-09 21:49:16 (ERROR) -- BDM.pyc:197 - DB error: C:\Users\viggo\AppData\Roaming/Bitcoin/blocks is not a valid path
[...]

Do you have core installed and fully synced?

If so, can you verify the above mentioned path is actually where your blockchain is stored? Is the data directory the same as the path above (satoshiDir) ?
If not, you'll need to install core and have it fully synced to be able to see your coins in armory.

Code:
27 Old Gloucester Street, London, United Kingdom, WC1N 3AX

(Source)

Daher nun meine Frage:

1311  Other / Off-topic / Re: Cyber actors are now targeting Tor exit nodes to perform SSL stripping on: August 13, 2020, 06:02:50 PM
Can we see anything suspicious in our browser in case something like this happens, like certificate change etc ?
Definitely, if they strip the SSL, then you will see a different certificate.

If you are a victim of SSL stripping, your connection will be non-secured, i.e. it will be http instead of https.
So it is quite easy to protect against that. If you see your connection is not encrypted while it should be or see a self-signed certificate, do not continue to communicate.
1312  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: I send BTC to offline wallet on: August 13, 2020, 05:58:12 PM
how do i send my logs?

Export your logs by clicking File -> Export Log File or by opening it directly located in:
Code:
C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Armory\

Then upload them to https://pastebin.com/ or a similar service and post the URL.
1313  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can I use unconfirmed funds? on: August 13, 2020, 05:51:32 PM
If you are talking of sending some or whole part of the money you intend receiving from B then It it impossible. The transaction need to be confirmed and show in your wallet before sending back.

No.
You obviously didn't read the thread and are just here to spam for your sig campaign.

As mentioned by multiple people already, you can indeed create transactions with outputs which aren't confirmed yet.
That's how CPFP basically works: Creating a transaction with unconfirmed inputs using a fee high enough to pay for both transactions.

Sometime unconfirmed transaction might be stall when the gas fee is not enough so it is very important for a transaction to be confirmed before you send money

Gas fee?
You do realize that everyone is talking about bitcoin here, and not about any shitcoin altcoin ?
1314  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: So wählt ihr die passende Gebühr für Bitcoin-Transaktionen on: August 13, 2020, 05:49:04 PM
Bezüglich der ganzen fee estimation Websites:

1)

Zurzeit, zeigt mir bitcoinfees.net folgendes an:

Graphik: Mempool Size in MB).
1315  Local / Suche / Re: Bitcoin Händler/Verkäufer gesucht für p2p platform on: August 12, 2020, 02:29:23 PM

1316  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Got problems on my Android firefox browser, metamask extension can't be accessed on: August 12, 2020, 02:26:23 PM
IIRC there are some file managers and ADB hacks you can use to get access to some more things without root but not all.

You can extract any App data via ADB on a non-rooted device if and only if the App has the debugging flag set to true in the AndroidManifest.xml file.
Usually, the flag is disabled. At least with reputable and well tested applications.

Might still be worth a try, but i doubt firefox didn't disable the debugging mode since it poses a security risk.
1317  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: walletgenerator.net, I find no way to verify the download with PGP on: August 12, 2020, 02:23:54 PM
Ok I’ll go check official websites and what wallets they offer that generate paper wallets. Thank you I did not know wallets could give you keys offline (I’m used to Cardano.... they are really not nice in REQUIRING internet on their Daedalus wallet to generate the keys!). I’ll check bitcoin and litecoin.  Do you know of any that generate paper wallets? (Or generate keys, same thing)

If you are looking to generate BTC and LTC paper wallets, why not simply use electrum and electrum-ltc ?

You can download and verify the files, then move them onto an offline PC (or boot a linux distro without any network connection) and create a wallet using electrum / electrum-ltc there.
Then write down or print (make sure the printer is not network connected) the mnemonic code and as much addresses as you want/need and (if needed) the private keys.

Additionally if you want some QR codes, there is open source software for linux available to create QR codes out of any data. So you can also easily print the QR of your address/private key.
1318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can I use unconfirmed funds? on: August 12, 2020, 12:53:21 PM
Usually most wallets won't even reflect the Bitcoin you have not until it has around 3 confirmations in the blockchain making it sure that the transaction itself will be irreversible for small type of transactions.

Which wallet does that? It has to be a pretty bad one.
Usually wallets show the transaction once they receive it (before the first confirmation). I am not aware of a wallet which doesn't show a transaction until it has 3+ confirmations..

The only thing i could imagine would be an exchange or custodial wallet. But both of them don't count as a good or proper wallet.
1319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3 Ways to Hack Bitcoin on: August 12, 2020, 12:49:04 PM
Let me summarize your post in 1 image:

Your "hacks" aren't hacks at all.
And they don't "hack" bitcoin.

As much as you are keen on getting merits, please stop posting such nonsense. It really hurts reading that.
I simply don't know where to start..

Regarding 1):
"Binance hack" because people were dumb enough to install malware on their computer? No. That's not "a binance hack".

2)
You are reading stuff you don't understand and writing stuff which doesn't make sense.
You make it sound as easy as booting up your PC.

3)
21 Million? Not even close.
You wouldn't even get the hardware for that amount (given that there can be that much hardware produced for you..).
1320  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: walletgenerator.net, I find no way to verify the download with PGP on: August 12, 2020, 12:10:15 PM
Seriously.... Oh gosh I love you guys. Thanks for warning me. I was about to create my wallets today.

The only one then is bitadress.org?
And there is another one for dash, but this website is on the official dash website: paper.dash.org.
But I don't have any signature on website or a SHA256 to verify. If I go to the GitHub, there's an option to download the zip file. Does that mean that from GitHub we don't have to verify signatures?

No.
Don't use any website to generate your paper wallet.

Your only "advantage" literally is that it looks pretty when printed.
Security-wise it is horrible because you 1) need to verify the source code and because 2) you are using javascript.
Javascript shouldn't be used to create cryptographic keys wherever possible.

If you want to properly generate a paper wallet, use a reputable wallet.
Just open your wallet on an offline device, write down the mnemonic and as much addresses / private keys as you want.
Way more secure than using those websites (regardless of online or offline).
