1221  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: 15.000€ investieren in Altcoins on: August 26, 2020, 12:01:26 PM
Wenn es ein Investment sein soll, dann schließe ich mich den Vorpostern an: Bitcoin. Bitcoin only.

1222  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sending coins to an exchange vs mixers? on: August 26, 2020, 11:50:25 AM
It would be better if you withdraw BTC trough the chain of exchanges  say your-wallet-#1 --> exchange 1: sellBTC -- buy alt1 --> exchainge2: sell alt1 --buy alt2 -->  exch3: sell alt2 - buy BTC --> your-wallet-#3

Or instead of using random altcoins, you actually use only a single one which breaks the link: Monero.
Convert to monero, transfer, sell monero and you are fine.

However, as outlined previously, using an exchange to gain privacy is a bad idea due to several factors.

There are basically 3 good options to remain privacy when using cryptocurrencies:
  • Using a mixer
  • Participating in coinjoin's
  • Using a privacy-focused cryptocurrency a.k.a. monero

But in the end it all depends on the thread model. What is the reason for remaining somewhat anonymous and/or gaining privacy.
If you just want to hide your spendings from the person your received the coins from (e.g. just a random person), using an exchange is fine. If you want to hide it from your government, an exchange is definitely not an option
1223  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2FA-Recovering your KYC Google Auth Keys. on: August 26, 2020, 11:29:51 AM
I don't have keys for all records

Shouldn't the "export account" function, when exporting only a single 2fa, show the secret of the chosen 2fa ?
Not having a backup is just as bad as not having a backup of passwords etc. If a 2FA is mandatory, you won't gain any access without it resulting in trouble.

It is recommended to always have a backup of 2FA seeds, just as you would with a mnemonic code.
1224  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How do I restore the last 7 characters of the private key? on: August 26, 2020, 11:25:44 AM
Yes, I have Windows and I really need to output data to a text file.

Use a proper OS a.k.a. linux for faster and more secure handling of sensitive data Tongue

For windows, it works just like with linux.
You can redirect the output of a program running in the command line using >
If you need to add content to a file, use >>

Until I find a way though how to take screenshots with my new phone, these pics will be there.

Starting with what kind of mobile you own, would help.
Or searching for "screenshot + [your mobile]" on the internet will yield results, taking less than a minute.
1226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help recover bc wallet ready to give from min 200$ to 20% depends on help on: August 26, 2020, 11:21:03 AM
Do not send your file to anyone.
Anyone contacting you via PM is a scammer.

If you want someone to recover the wallet for you, use Dave's recovery service. That's the only trusted recovery service out there. He takes 20% if he finishes to recover your coins.
1227  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2FA-Recovering your KYC Google Auth Keys. on: August 26, 2020, 10:43:19 AM
By the way, you can make the images visible in the OP, instead of leaving just the link.

And when you are at it, delete all the images and do it again. This time using screenshots.
Photos taken of a screen with a camera are.. let's say outdated.

Please use screenshots. It hurts my eyes to look at camera photos of screens.
1228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin transaction unconfirmed since 8 hours on: August 25, 2020, 03:16:08 PM
The mempool is quite filled right now.
To have a transaction confirmed within the next hours, a fee roughly 10x higher is necessary.

Since RBF is disabled, you can not simply replace the transaction with a new one.
However, if you are in control of either 3KmJRzcoUYNy96jPZjtjsMd1akKtfVAMjW or 18nMCYpPe9W7FWFaCEgt983b5van2Q4rg4, you can spend that new unconfirmed output with a fee high enough to pay for both transactions.

This will confirm both of your transactions at the same time.
But since the overall value of the transaction is ~5$, it really is not worth it.

RBF would have been a cheaper option. I would recommend you to stop using blockchain.com.
Use a proper wallet. Not a web wallet. You could have chosen an appropriate fee easily and would have been able to bump the fee.

1229  Other / Meta / Re: PM Search on: August 25, 2020, 02:39:53 PM
Unfortunately wildcards are not allowed in the search field.

However, since the field includes everything inside of the message, you might want to search for very common letters.
The most common letter in the english language is e.

Searching for "e" together with the users name, should give you most of the messages. If both of you wrote normal sentences, the chance that there is a message without an "e" is pretty low.

Not perfect, but at least a way to find most (if not even all) of the messages.
1230  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: BTC lost on: August 25, 2020, 01:40:45 PM
If you have used the correct address, your BTC are safe and are not lost.

Can you check the transaction on a block explorer? Chances are high that it isn't confirmed yet.
Visit https://blockchair.com/ and enter either the sending-/receiving address or the transaction id. If you see the transaction and everything is correct (amount, address) then you don't have to worry. It probably just takes some time depending on the fee used.

Feel free to share the txid or address, so we can check it on a block explorer.
1231  Economy / Reputation / Re: Lucius is signature spammer by dkbit98 ? on: August 25, 2020, 01:30:34 PM
dkbit98 behaved quite irrational in that linked topic.
My guess would be that he is somehow affiliated with the cheap 1960's style hardware wallet. Therefore he sounded a little bit harsh whenever someone was criticizing it.

Just check the spreadsheet containing all participants. People are removed quite frequently when they don't meet the quality standards anymore.
As long as you are not removed, you can be assured that your posts are not considered spam.

I disagree with you in some topics (i.e. when debating about windows 7), but wouldn't consider it being spam.

So to answer your question: No. IMO dkbit98 simply is not fully in control of his emotions. Don't take it personal.
1232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Paid with mBTC and not BTC - have I lost all my money? on: August 25, 2020, 01:05:18 PM
Given that the Electrum server I connect to is mine... connected to my own full node... I am fairly comfortable with my "zero privacy" Tongue Wink

That's a different story.
But i am pretty sure the majority of people who are new to bitcoin, do not run their own full node and have their electrum server set up on top of it.
And exactly these kind of people completely give up on their privacy when using electrum.

Especially when recommending electrum, mentioning the loss of privacy and a hint on how to preserve it by running a full node + electrum server might be useful  Tongue
1233  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Thoughts about Passport hardware wallet on: August 25, 2020, 01:01:09 PM
It has camera and removable batteries, and it will be airgapped.
Maybe add few more zeroes for correct pricing sir   Grin

If it is not a high resolution camera, the cam itself only costs ~1$. That's more than enough for a camera module to scan QR codes.
The batteries are not included i'd guess. And the connectors for the battery are like a few cents.

The hardware cost of the device is definitely way below 10$.

I like how the Passport can't be connected to anything, because people have made spying devices shaped in a USB port and that makes me feel slightly paranoid because however unrealistic it may be (emphasis on unrealistic) I still worry that USB hardware wallets like Ledger might be modified by someone to steal coins.

This 20 year old mobile (a.k.a. "new" hardware wallet) also has interfaces to exploit vulnerabilities: The SD slot and the camera (yes, parsing data from a QR code can create vulnerabilities).
It's not like it is unhackable.
1234  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Thoughts about Passport hardware wallet on: August 24, 2020, 01:49:35 PM
This thing is ugly as hell.
But i guess it could be a good device for people who don't want to spend more than a few bucks.

Considering all the parts are pretty cheap, the whole device shouldn't cost more than ~20$.

And the good thing is, it won't ever be stolen since it looks like a 20y old mobile  Grin Grin
1235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Electrum wallet address change?! on: August 24, 2020, 11:15:23 AM
Uh guys so he's asking what do I mean. Can someone like, send me a link to a youtube video for the tutorial..

It really is not that hard.
Chances are high you are being scammed.

If he doesn't know how to sign a message, he could have just googled it.
If he doesn't know how to google, he doesn't know how to "hack".

He is an impersonator. And most likely a script kiddy with no clue whatsoever.
1236  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: All used addresses on: August 24, 2020, 11:13:58 AM
I want to remove duplicate lines without changing the order, so only keeping the first occurrence.

If i am not mistaken, the following should work:
Code:
cat -n input.txt | sort -uk2 | sort -nk1 | cut -f2- > output.txt

None of these commands needs to hold the file in memory all at once.
But as mentioned previously, sort does need quite some disk space to create temporary files. So that might be a bottleneck, depending on your system specs.
1237  Other / Meta / Re: Why Bitcointalk Account Ban? on: August 24, 2020, 10:24:26 AM
Could you link your old account?
By the way, such a post belongs in the the Meta section. Press "move topic" in the bottom left and move it into Meta.
1238  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How do I restore the last 7 characters of the private key? on: August 24, 2020, 10:20:08 AM
I can't compile a program for windows. Can you help me with this?

You don't necessarily have to.
If you trust the developer of the tool, you can get the binaries form the release page.

Note that the binaries are for linux, and that has a reason:
Since many features of this tool deal with sensitive information such as private keys, mnemonics,... that need to be kept secure, we strongly recommend that a Live linux is used with its network disabled.

Using a live linux distribution would be an option for you.
It doesn't take too much time. There are guides available online. This could be done within 10 minutes, if you are up for it.
1239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Electrum wallet address change?! on: August 24, 2020, 10:15:09 AM
After I ask him to sign the msg, what would be the next steps? How do I check?

Either verify the signature within electrum, as showed by LoyceV or use a website (e.g. https://brainwalletx.github.io/#verify) to do so.
If the signature is valid, you can be sure that the person with access to the private key did sign that message. This either has to be person A or someone who gained access to person A's private key.
1240  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: All used addresses on: August 24, 2020, 10:10:57 AM
The sort command can keep chronological order without using ram
How? I haven't found that option.

The command sort only takes roughly 50% of your available RAM.
If you are running out of memory using sort on a large file, most likely there isn't enough space on your hard drive.

What sort does, when the file is larger than your available RAM, is that it creates temporary files on the hard drive which are then merge-sorted at the end.
So the overall capacity needed is the sizes of the file times 3 (if you keep the original one) or 2 (if you overwrite the original file).

I might have just misunderstood the problem, might want to elaborate the actual issue?
