1721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin network knowledge poll on: May 28, 2020, 10:33:36 AM
The node your SPV wallet is connecting to is the one actually part of the network, then technically no, you're not actually using Bitcoin. You're sending "your" Bitcoins through a third-party.

This statement doesn't make a lot of sense.
SPV has been proposed in the original bitcoin whitepaper. It is simply a mechanism to verify payments without requiring all blocks to be saved.
Thanks to concept of the blocks (especially merkle trees), the header (and missing hashes) are enough to verify that payments (transactions) are included in a block.

I could also claim:
The computer you are using is connecting to the network, so no.. you (as a person) are not actually using bitcoin. You are sending "your" bitcoin through an electronic device.

Obviously this statement would be completely retarded. But there is a small analogy to your statement.
1722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: BTC Reward. How to compile Electrum standalone executable from Python source cod on: May 28, 2020, 10:22:26 AM
The process depends on the OS you want the executable to be build for.

You can find step-by-step guides on github:
1723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet recovery - help needed on: May 28, 2020, 09:16:50 AM
But if the Coinbase application didn't delete OP's wallet on iPhone storage and merely ask recovery phrase to prevent brute-force, it's possible Coinbase update their application to allow OP try biometric authentication again.

This would be quite a loose security concept.
But i guess the possibility exists.

However, i doubt that coinbase would update the application for OP.

IMO this thread shows two important points:
1) Always have a backup stored securely and
2) Do not rely on biometric security on a smartphone
1724  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin offline wallet suggestion on: May 28, 2020, 09:09:08 AM
I'm not speaking of you but many bodies may be in confused  by  these two concepts -  "offline mode"  for wallet and "offline" wallet. So it's better to keep in mind such definition as

So, what exactly is the difference in your eyes ?
If a devices goes online, it is not an offline wallet. And also can't be called "offline mode".

What is the difference according to you ?

Cold wallet = "wallet completely and always offline" on fully air-gapped computer that prevents it from communications through any  channels including the side ones.

And that is exactly what an offline wallet is too.
Your definition of a cold wallet now exactly is the definition of an offline wallet.
1725  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Security vs Quantum Computing on: May 26, 2020, 07:57:47 PM
Ye.. i didn't read it and didn't even click on the link.
But i don't need to do that to tell you that this is absolute garbage.

Bitcoin "encryption" (i guess you meant signatures) won't be crackable the next few years..
Even if (and that already is a big if) there will be well working quantum computers available in a few years... there are no algorithms available.

You need the hardware AND the efficient algorithms.
And once its coming close to be possible, a hardfork is going to solve everything.
The traditional banking sector and the government will be at a higher risk with their slow IT departments than bitcoin.
1726  Other / Meta / Re: sardasa account hacked yesterday on: May 26, 2020, 07:22:23 PM
Infact, after it was hacked 2nd time, I even changed my e-mail address. Not sure how did hacker get to know about my new e-mail id to hack it for the 3rd time.

You don't have any clue about what you are doing online. That's how he got access to your new email address.
Obviously, you didn't learn anything about getting compromised 2 times already.

Moreover, do you think hacker would have hacked this new account as well and would be following up to get old account back?

If you would have done everything (somewhat) correctly, this wouldn't happen.
But you lost your account 3 times already .. so who knows..
1727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet recovery - help needed on: May 26, 2020, 07:19:08 PM
1) Contact Coinbase.

They can't help OP, because they don't have any access to the private keys.
It is not their exchange application.

2) Visit Nearest Apple Support Center - they can help you.

3) Try 3rd Party Recovery Softwares, many are available in the market Free and Paid - stellarinfo is one of them but they offer paid service

Highly unlikely this will result in recovery.
OP might have a chance using this if 1) his mobile is rooted or 2) the application was installed on an SD card.
If neither is the case, recovering lost data (and especially data purposely deleted by an application) is not that easy feasible.
1728  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin offline wallet suggestion on: May 26, 2020, 11:59:18 AM
[...] Nevertheless, it has helped to  revive the original meaning of two terms  i.e. "cold wallet" and "offline wallets" and show they are not equal in  the  sense  of security they provide.

I actually never heard the terms being used in a different context.
Whenever i heard cold wallet it absolutely meant offline wallet and vice versa.

A Wallet operated offline is an offline wallet and a cold wallet.
There is nothing in between.

Either it is completely offline or it is not.
A wallet which partially is offline, is neither an offline wallet nor a cold wallet.

Whether and how the device has been used prior to serve as an offline/cold wallet doesn't matter for the terminology.
Cold wallet = wallet completely and always offline = offline wallet.
1729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: offline node and my priv keys not working on: May 25, 2020, 08:53:09 PM
How do I remove/lose/let go wallets and addresses I don't need/want anymore?

You can remove wallets by simply deleting the wallet file.
But that's not recommended since you might receive more BTC at some point in the future. If you don't need them just move them into a different folder and forget about them.

Regarding addresses, you can't delete them (addresses, private keys) since it is a HD wallet (all derived from the same seed).
Is there a practical reason you want to delete them?
1730  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin offline wallet suggestion on: May 25, 2020, 04:00:11 PM
The experienced attacker may obtain privileges  to modify a variety of firmware (ranging from BIOS to various controllers that go on round under the hood) that are out of sight of the fresh OS. That sumps it all up, the fresh OS will not help to make "old' computer  to look like it  "absolutely never has been online".

If we are talking at that level, you also have to consider that it IS possible to infiltrate an completely air-gapped system.
Regardless of whether it ever has been online or not.

And additionally, the hardware supply chain can be a huge problem.
There are multiple points in the supply chain where your hardware can be manipulated (your hardware wallet or motherboard, CPU, etc..):
Chip design, preperation of the masks, IC test and packaging, PC assembly, vendor, distributor and anywhere in between.

With these considerations, you should keep in mind that every system always can be compromised.
You will never reach absolute security. All you can do is to minimize the risk.

If you plan on storing a few millions worth of BTC and are telling everyone you own that much.. yes. Maybe use a brand new PC to be a little more on the safe side.
If that is not the case, you practically don't gain much.

I downloaded the app from Playstore using my phone.

Then maybe tell us the name of the app ?

This all depends on which kind of wallet you are using.
And if you don't see any name when opening the app, just give us the name of the application (preferably with a link to the play store).
1733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin confirmation API on: May 25, 2020, 11:50:12 AM
The bare minimum is prune=550 (IIRC), keeping little over 550 Mb block data.

Thanks for the heads up. I missed a "5".

Next to this, there are other datafiles, config files, log files and binaries,... So a pruned node will still need a lot more than 50 Mb (even the minimum size on disk of the blocks of a pruned node alone are > 50 Mb)
Don't forget chainstate which store all UTXO, which is about 3.8GB in my case.

You guys are obsessed with storage space  Grin

A 500 GB HDD costs ~25$.
Whether a pruned nodes needs 2 or 20 GB is pretty much irrelevant (IMO).

If someone is doing 2 requests per second, thats more than 7k requuests per hour. I would guess that he should be able to run a full node and give up on 2-20 GB on storage space in this case.

Einem Spiel was mir gefällt.

Wo kommen diese Gewinne denn her?

Sowas gibts hier schon seit Jahren.

1736  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Wallet seed from 2014 on: May 25, 2020, 09:09:09 AM
it is from blockchain.info

In this case, try here: https://login.blockchain.com/wallet/recover-wallet.

Oh and, please stop giving out more words from your mnemonic code.
You already posted 7 out of 20 words.

This isn't enough to bruteforce it, but be careful. And don't reply to PM's asking for information.
1737  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Wallet seed from 2014 on: May 25, 2020, 08:54:01 AM
If it is a BIP39 mnemonic code, the number of words has to be divisible by 4 3.
However, the word "interruptions" is not part of it.

Do you remember using your own wordlist (i.e. replacing the wordlist by another one yourself) ?
Do you remember which kind of wallet you were using ? Did you use a browser? Your mobile?
Anything you remember?
1738  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Changelly - FAKE KYC/AML on: May 25, 2020, 08:18:14 AM
my 3 btc confiscated. Because scam website. Support is very bad! 3 I can't get BTC back. they do not return. I think they stole my money
They don't help me. Never use this service.
Transaction id : qrefy611o5uxjej2

So.. why did you use changelly in the first place ?
How and why did you believe it is safe to use such an "instant exchange" ?

I am sorry, but no one here can help you.
Their support is the only one being able to help you. But since they are lying all the time (e.g. about their location), if they don't want to help you, you can't expect anything from them.

For the future, google first before using any service (especially something shady like an instant exchange).
1739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin confirmation API on: May 25, 2020, 08:09:13 AM
If you need at least 2 requests per second, you might want to consider setting up your own node.
It's not that hard and doesn't need too much disk space, since you can simply enable pruning and only save the last few blocks (e.g. 50 MB of blocks).

I don't know what of software/service you are building, but it might be better to not rely on a 3rd party (keyword: availability).
1740  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor&Ledger customer data leak? on: May 25, 2020, 08:04:11 AM
I never used my hardware wallet(trezor) directly on buying online. I always used electrum wallet as my mode of payment when purchasing even on doing a p2p transaction. A golden rule here is to always keep your hardware wallet disconnected online and make a separate wallet for all transaction.

Wait, what ?

Regardless of the irrelevance to the OP, this statement doesn't make any sense.
You are using your desktop wallet to pay stuff, ok. But how are you funding your desktop wallet with your hardware wallet ?
I'd assume that you are using your PC ?
It doesn't matter whether you send a transaction to someone else, or to your other wallet.

The only real advantage in security would be, if you'd only use an offline PC to sign transactions with your hardware wallet and then move it to an online PC to actually broadcast it.
I mean.. that's possible and adds another level of protection, but.. if you aren't transaction huge sums of money this seems like an overkill to me.
