2223  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questoin about getwork, shares and solving block. on: August 01, 2011, 03:44:43 PM
So share is a hash compared not to target but to other number (increased with nonce 2^32 number of hashes) with higher probability to match?
yes.
2224  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questoin about getwork, shares and solving block. on: August 01, 2011, 01:49:22 PM

Some answers are here, but I don't understand how shares processed after when they are submitted?
shares processed by checking if they are valid, and then saved.
Quote
And why do we need collect shares which doesn't match target?
no/yes.
no: they does not help the creation of blocks.
yes: if you dont store them, you can't check if they are used again, and there by frauding you to more shares.

2225  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questoin about getwork, shares and solving block. on: August 01, 2011, 01:30:59 PM
What is shares in mining? Why getwork response doesn't solve the block directly and only one getwork response from many solves the block? Are they additive or something?
getworks are only proof that you have tryed to solve a block.
take is as a lottery:
10000 tickets, and every ticker have a number.
if the number on the ticker is 1, then jackpot! you won.
if the number on the ticker is less then 100, then its only proof that you have tryed.

2227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need some help, Techies, please. Simple stuff, really. Bitcoin Wallet Ubuntu on: July 31, 2011, 10:10:36 AM
#1 don't bother, it does not matter much anyway.
#2 its in ~/.bitcoin/ thats a hidden directory (the "."). press Ctrl+H and you will see hidden files in nautilus(the default filesystem navigator). the "~" means that its in your home directory("~" = /home/<username>/)

Thanks kokjo, I'm hitting the pillow now, but in the morning i'll look into it, and see what I can do with this new info. Thanks a bunch!

Is the wallet file the only one I need to backup and save?

yes. but you need to shutdown the bitcoin client before you copy it. or else you migth end up with a corrupt backup wallet.

Thanks guys...back from my nap.  I'm going to rip this apart and fix it this evening.

The site is down until I fix the form validations and other wonky errors that I have missed.

I should have tested it more myself before asking for your guys help instead of making myself look like a noob making noob mistakes.  But at least your comments are giving me incentive to get to work on it asap.

If I owe any of my testers any btc love, please drop your address on me.  I'll be around a little later.

you don't owe me anything, im doing it because i like to test things and find flaws.
but a little reward is always appreciated. Smiley

thanks for the 0.15btc Smiley

2231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MyBitcoin.com - hosting provider: leaseweb.com on: July 30, 2011, 07:35:10 PM
Going to post this to LeaseWeb. Anyone want me to add/change anything?

Code:
Hi,

This is in regard to an issue with the server that you host which runs www.mybitcoin.com, which is a Bitcoin wallet provider. The owner, Tom Williams, provides a service that allows people to store their funds on his server via transaction processing. Since his server is down and he is not responding to contact requests, this is affecting all of the (hundreds, thousands?) of users of his transaction service. This constitutes theft if he does not allow users to move their bitcoin wallet funds from his possession. If you are not aware of Bitcoins, they are a digital currency that has several international markets.

Please contact Tom Williams and/or have the server put back online (at least temporarily, so that the users can retrieve their funds from his digital service. If the users cannot get their funds then Tom Williams has stolen their money.

Feel free to contact me or see the post covering this issue on the Bitcoin forums: https://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=33020.0

Thank you,

Concerned User

You can't be serious, at least all dedicated hosting companies have polices that they will NOT TOUCH YOUR SHIT on the server. If they mess with his server contents, they are violating their own policy, and that can serve up a lawsuit against the hosting company itself.

hmm. and?
