Good luck, And dont forget, Goat is paying 10%  of your costs. In his words ""I will pay 10% of any ones costs to buy any of this guys products just for the fucking lulz. ". Chances of him honoring that seem vastly slimmer than BFL coming up with a product however.
2282  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $500 — Butterflylabs, is it a scam? on: November 15, 2011, 03:29:25 PM

PS.  Sorry to be crabby, but you guys deserve it.

Amen!

Is there any news on initial delivery or demonstration dates?
Also the rig box, is it using the same board as the singles, and if so, how come 32 of those get ~54x the throughput?
2283  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [IDEA] bitcoin-enabled parking 'meters' on: November 15, 2011, 01:16:17 PM
The point of using SMS is that almost anyone can use it. You dont even need a smartphone, any dumb old feature phone will do.

Of course operators take their share, but if you want to cut them out, there are much simpler solutions than bitcoin. The service here already allows "webparking" where you do the same thing, just from a PC (or smartphone), and you pay with whatever means you want, debit or credit card, or you get a monthly invoice. That way you cut out the SMS/carrier costs without anything fancy like bitcoin.

The problem here really isnt the paying or billing. The problem is making sure the parking "watchers" have a connected device that allows them to check online if you have paid or not. Once you have that, bitcoins adds very little. And frankly, using bitcoins to pay for a little paper to put behind your windscreen is.. well, silly when you think about it.

Meh, you dont usually vote laws, you vote for representatives. Pools would be like that. And its easier to change pools than representatives Smiley
2285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens if someone dumps a million dollars into the market? on: November 15, 2011, 08:03:47 AM
The first bubble hasnt ended yet. You dont seriously think $2+ is a value based on demand for trade? At least 90% of that is still speculative.
2286  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [IDEA] bitcoin-enabled parking 'meters' on: November 15, 2011, 07:49:40 AM
I haven't seen an SMS or app-based system over here (Canada).  Does it require any sort of hardware investment by the parking authority?

Not for the meters, they just need a sticker. But the people writing the tickets carry around a pda, so they can check if you paid. With the system here you dont need a ticket, I can "refill" my meter from the office, just by sending an sms (actually, I send one to start, and one to stop), or by using their mobile app.

Judging by pictures, the VRM R-5 could fit your card.
http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/vga/vrm/product_vga_cooler_r5.html

Now  I cant find any official confirmation, because obviously the GPU cooler that goes with it (spitfire) is not compatible with a dual card.  I had originally bought the R5 to cool the VRMs of a 5850, and I cut the baseplate in half, so it still covered the RAM and the small memory VRM, while making place for the R5 to cool the VRMs. Worked fine (but is kind of irreversible.) I have it on my 5870 now, and clocked at 1 GHz, the VRMs have yet to exceed 62C (stock cooler, stock speed  was 115+C).

Next time you remove the baseplate, can you make some pictures of the VRMs with a ruler next to it for size? It looks exactly like the 5870 row of VRMs.

Then again, like the spitfire, the R5 is not a good idea if you have multiple cards. Its kind of big. You might be able to bend the heatpipes though, so they stand straight up.
2288  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What flags should I use for 5830s? on: November 14, 2011, 07:01:04 PM
theres plenty more out there that dont have a clue, and i aint one of them Smiley

Coming from the guy who wrote "I live in uk (expensive) and at the rate now i mine less than 24 hours in the week to cover the electric. Its expensive here too. Very. the other 6+ days is profit." when in reality you pay 2.5x market price for bitcoins in electricity cost alone.

If you have a clue, I wonder what the ones without a clue do. Probably buying 5970s Wink.

3) his email address is riughly pronounced as 'fraud'.

No it isnt.  Unless you pronounce mannequin as "Main-queen" or something.
You pronounce his name as "froo-o". First syllable as in "fruit" second one as 'oh".
Its a French name.

Ah gotcha. BTW, cgminer can set that value too. Its the "powertune" thing.
2291  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 4 pin molex to 6 pin pci-e connector. Word of warning on: November 14, 2011, 04:37:38 PM
Just went to check what I had on my rat rig. DeathAndTaxes, you are going to love this one.

Yep. BROWN cables Smiley. Same layout as the other splitters though. I just checked if they felt hot, and they werent. Cables seem cool enough

As an aside, this is the entire rat rig now;

DnT, you will love the blue/red fan extension cables!
Cheesy.

Ans yes, Im using 2 PSUs now. Didnt trust the antec 500W to power 5870@1Ghz + 5850 @900 Mhz + old P4 prescott cpu (yes, I know). It managed fine at stock speeds, but thought Id not push my luck, so I recycled an old 450W unit with a faulty fan, hotglued a spare fan on it. Its a rat rig after all Dont ask about power efficienciy, its not efficient, but hey, it works, and it does a good job keeping the storage room from freezing Smiley
2292  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 4 pin molex to 6 pin pci-e connector. Word of warning on: November 14, 2011, 04:06:29 PM
see picture above.

edit: oops you are right. I thought that 2/3 molex pin was 5v, but its ground. Why would you have 4 ground wires and 2 current carrying?
2293  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 4 pin molex to 6 pin pci-e connector. Word of warning on: November 14, 2011, 04:05:57 PM
here is the entire cable:

Ive only seen one's like that TBH. Well, in so far I paid attention. Ill check my mining rig later.
2294  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 4 pin molex to 6 pin pci-e connector. Word of warning on: November 14, 2011, 04:00:22 PM
Im guessing they are pulling from 12 and 5v? 2 wires with 12v (yellow) and two from 5v (red) ? WHich wouldnt be a bad idea for old PSUs that likely have ample 5V power (and not enough on 12v)
2295  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 4 pin molex to 6 pin pci-e connector. Word of warning on: November 14, 2011, 03:42:16 PM
Hmmm.. now you make me nervous. I just went through my box of cables, and I have plenty of those. Like this one, its a dual molex to PCIe, but also has only 2 red and 2 yellow wires:

If I remember correctly, that cable actually came with my 5870?
2296  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Opinions on running delta fans at max load 24/7 on: November 14, 2011, 03:28:47 PM
Well its what I got when I googled 120mm delta fans that matched ~190cfm. I found this one:
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/delffb1212eh.html

They may have more power efficient fans, but no fan is going to sip power and achieve that kind of airflow.
2297  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What flags should I use for 5830s? on: November 14, 2011, 03:24:29 PM
So whats different between left and right machine? Left machine looks like what Id expect for 5850s at those clocks. Right screen looks like higher clocks to me. 1 Ghz would seem right. If not the clock, what else is different?
2298  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Opinions on running delta fans at max load 24/7 on: November 14, 2011, 02:26:33 PM
Just as a side remark, those fans will use up to 24W each. Thats ~100W per rig for case fans only. Not nothing. You sure you need that much? If you have to pay for electricty Id (re)consider open frame rigs.
2299  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What flags should I use for 5830s? on: November 14, 2011, 01:44:47 PM
DnT, he is not using time averaged effective hashrates. He is just looking at instantaneous hashrates with all the variability that comes with it. You dont get "400MH+" sustained average out of a 5850 @965Mhz. But dont bother telling him, because he knows all that already Wink.
2300  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [IDEA] bitcoin-enabled parking 'meters' on: November 14, 2011, 01:35:20 PM
Here you can already pay with your (smart)phone. Either by sending an SMS, or with an android/iphone app (billed to your phone bill). Not sure bitcoin would have enough advantage to convince "parking meter operators", particularly when there is probably like 5 people in my country that could send bitcoins from their smartphone.

Dont get me wrong, I like the idea, but its a bit early.
