I'm not using a json config so I'm not sure what that may be. On the latest version it recognizes the config option gpu-vddc but doesn't seem to apply it to my 5970s.

I *think* it also depends on the amd drivers you use. I could be completely wrong here, but I think it only works on older ones (like 11.6 that ships with linuxcoin). If you are using a recent version of ubuntu, you would have newer drivers by default. On ubuntu 11.10 I was unable to clock over 775 MHz, no such issues on linuxcoin.

Manufacturing variance could easily explain that, but 5870 and 5770 also use completely different dies ("designs") and probably more optimized for yields than clocks.

I just use cgminer (on linux).

This fixes the error mentioned in the previous posts. Long polling has also been improved, but we'll have to wait and see whether it will have a visible effect on the number of rejected proofs of work.

Id say, mission accomplished:

But she just said "Oh I know that IP!"
Which of course, it the slightly more fundamental problem, the idea people would recognize IPs and be able to match them to individuals.  Then again, this wasnt a show about TCP-IP, so who cares.

IM curious how you measure the power consumption of the cards alone.. ? Are you taking motherboard in to account?
1607  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I talked with Amazon Live Support today... on: January 16, 2012, 03:07:03 PM
Wouldn't apply in this case.  I'm certain that if Amazon.com sold bitcoins to a Visa customer, Amazon.com would either be able to prove that they sold it to the correct person, or simply didn't engage in the transaction.  Said another way, Amazon.com has the ability to verify that their customers are who they say that they are at the time that they order anything.

That doesnt change the fact that Paypal or Visa would either have to change their policies on currency trading or officially take the stance that bitcoin is not a currency, but a commodity. The implications of that would be significant, as everyone could start accepting credit cards for bitcoins by proving their transaction and identity (using orders that include visa card number signed with their private or something like that).

2 of my 3 5870s do 900 MHz @ 1.05V
Both my 5850s will do 850 MHz @ 1V

Amazon.com could sell bitcoins directly

With paypal or credit card? That would be a laugh!

True, but it would happen.  At least for a while.  Credit cards are not going to just fade away anytime soon.

I think you missed my point. Chargebacks.
1610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I talked with Amazon Live Support today... on: January 16, 2012, 02:56:43 PM
I wont stop you from nagging amazon, but I think your time would be better spent nagging to smaller online businesses for whom it would also make more sense. Its not like Amazon is going to increase it sales by accepting bitcoins

I just saw the show.
I dont remember who it was, who promised to drink one shot of rum (was it?) for every time the word bitcoin was used. Do we have the address of the hospital he is in to send him flowers Cheesy.

As a bitcoin "commercial", I guess it was much better than I had hoped for. At the same time, I dont think it will do much. I dont think Id get the urge to google bitcoin after seeing it. If you had never heard of it, youd probably still think it was purely fictional. The only way for this to have an impact, is when its combined with some actual bitcoin news, so people understand it really exists. Then people may remember the term from the show and look in to it, but if you only heard of it by watching this show, slim chance I think.
1613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I talked with Amazon Live Support today... on: January 16, 2012, 12:52:48 PM
It would be great news! Until then, it seems you can already buy on amazon with this: http://spendbitcoins.com/

Has anyone tried that?

Yep, just did yesterday. Works perfectly, I got my code in 10 minutes (though dont count on that, Jeremy was posting here while I made the order). No markup for the bitcoins over mtgox prices, no fees,  I was impressed.

As for amazon accepting bitcoins; no offense, but I doubt that Indian support guy had a clue. Next time someone wants to try, ask if they plan to support solidcoin or something, and dont be surprised to get the same response Wink.

All that extra heat is coming from somewhere. Since I believe in the laws of physics I would have to say it is using more electricity.

Not necessarily. Temperature sensors are in particular places on the GPU. The heat is relatively local.  Moreover, the default sensor is IOdisp, which is not the same as the sensor in shaders and the difference can be substantial (+-10C easily). THe only way to know for sure if one miner uses more electricity than another is by measuring power consumption. Temperature is a very poor proxy for that.

Also, out of curiosity, where is your profit coming from? Is it from amazon affiliate programs or something? I was (pleasantly) surprised to find your BTC exchange rate exactly matched that of Mt Gox, and there were no other fees or anything. I didnt pay a satoshi extra to use bitcoins.

And now for the impact this is having on google searches... drumroll...

So far, none.

Even though on paper your PSU is certainly powerful enough, it still sounds like a power delivery issue to me. Can you try another one?
1618  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: AAQ (Actually asked questions) for Spend Bitcoins on: January 15, 2012, 10:12:37 PM
Well, that went fast and painless!

I think the website could use a bit of work, as it looks more complicated than it really is, but I will be using this again!
1619  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER miner overclock monitor fanspeed RPC in C linux/windows/osx 2.1.2 on: January 15, 2012, 09:45:10 PM
It doesnt really matter. From the UUAFAQ(*)

Q: Why is my efficiency above/below 100%?
A: Efficiency simply means how many shares you return for the amount of work
you request. It does not correlate with efficient use of your hardware, and is
a measure of a combination of hardware speed, block luck, pool design and other
factors.

*Usually Unread Answers to frequently asked questions.

I can tell you how to gain 3-4% mining efficiency though; switch pools!
1620  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: AAQ (Actually asked questions) for Spend Bitcoins on: January 15, 2012, 09:40:15 PM
Thanks. I was unsure if you could use giftcodes to pay shipping fees or how you can use gift codes in general I suppose.

On a side note, its a bitch to find out shipping fees before selecting and confirming your paying method. IE, you cant see them until after you have entered the gift code (or selected visa/paypal..). Makes it difficult to know how big a gift certificate you have to buy on your site.
